MOTHERLAND: FORT SALEM (2020–2022): Extremely frustrating bootlicking modern fantasy series, set in an alternate America in which witches with genuine supernatural powers are required by law to submit to military conscription upon their 18th birthdays. The show follows three new witch cadets, Tally Craven (Jessica Sutton), Abigail Bellweather (Ashley Nicole Williams), and Raelle Collar (Taylor Hickson), as they go through basic training to join a magical War on Terror against a ruthless terrorist organization called the Spree — of which Raelle's new girlfriend Scylla (Amalia Holm Bjelke) is secretly an agent.
Although the premise is truly cringeworthy, the first season offers some intriguing worldbuilding (including a novel treatment of the witches' magic, which is called "work" and based on sound) and paints a surprisingly dark picture of the witch army — so dark that it starts to seem like the original intent might have been closer to Paul Verhoeven's STARSHIP TROOPERS than a supernatural TOP GUN. Despite all its unsavory flag-waving, the Season One storyline touches on the dehumanizing effects of military training, the Army's use of torture, the grim consequences of refusing conscription, and even the negative environmental impact of military witches' "work"; the season's climax then has the witches' rather sinister commanding general (Lyne Renée) — a 300-year-old witch who survives by literally stealing the youth from volunteers and who is apparently plotting a military coup — ordering the green recruits to commit an atrocity that has significant civilian casualties.
The second season, however, immediately beats a cowardly retreat from any criticism or questioning of the Army or its leadership, shrugging off the disturbing events of the previous season (without actually undoing or contradicting anything that was previously shown, including the atrocity the protagonists committed!) and shifting focus to a stupid, unpleasantly grisly new conflict with an ancient secret society of witch-hunting bigots that threatens all witches. This conflict also occupies the the third season, which drifts yet further afield with some oddball revelations about the ultimate source of witch magic and culminates in a finale that somehow manages to elide all of the actual conflicts established in the show.
The first season has enough points of interest to suggest an opportunity missed, but the increasingly repugnant jingoism and the later seasons' obnoxiously woolly mysticism (even by the standards of a show about military witches) become harder and harder to tolerate even on a dopey nerd show level, and of the ostensible core cast, only Scylla gets anything approaching substantive characterization. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Yes, but you'll hate yourself in the morning. VERDICT: If you can stomach the basic premise (Mazel tov!), the first season (and only the first season) might be worth a look, but the rest goes from bad to worse.
Annemarie Wiley is in hot water after she interrogated Sutton Stracke about her small esophagus.
Crystal Kung Minkoff said that she and Garcelle Beauvais had to leave, because it was so awkward how she kept on about the esophagus for hours!
Annemarie wasn’t very happy that Crystal had called her a bitch, and when she twisted Crystal’s words to turn the group against her, Crystal clapped back:
“Says the woman who said she was a doctor when she’s actually a nurse.”
Annemarie then chose to make it seem like Crystal was belittling her profession and said that she was extremely proud of being a nurse.
But it was her condescending justification of calling herself an Anesthesiologist during the Aftershow that made things worse for Annemarie.
The American Society for Anesthesiologists (ASA) spoke out about her misrepresentation of the profession, and wrote on Instagram:
“The Real Housewives know a fake. Anesthesiologists are medical doctors with more than 12 years of higher education and up to 16,000 hours of clinical training. Title misappropriation has no place in health care.”
After the backlash from the ASA, Annemarie tries to turn the issue into a doctor vs. nurse conflict and called it a defamation campaign.
She thought for instance that it was unprofessional of Nicole Martin to criticize her and accused her of clout chasing to be relevant.
That was the same tactic she used when Crystal accused her claiming to be a doctor. She wanted a “thank you” since she had made her relevant.
Nicole responded to Annemarie’s accusation and said:
“I think to ‘chase clout’ implies that you’re going after a bigger fish, and Annemarie is in no way a bigger fish.”
Annemarie then goes to express her own dislike of the esophagus storyline.
“That storyline was unauthentically dragged on for far too long, and I’ve been dragged through the mud in the process.”
Kyle Richards was the one who started the scrutiny of Sutton’s esophagus, but Annemarie went out of her way to talk about it with Crystal and Garcelle.
I think she only has herself and her arrogance to blame.

So this is the cutest thing but for Valentine's day, Spiderverse's official IG posted a story by one of their supervisor artists, Nicolle Cornute-Sutton, who shared her story of having interracial parents and how special it was for her to get to honor them through her work. She goes on to say that just like Miles' story, her parents ignored all those telling them "how their story should go" or even that their story "shouldn't happen" (they would probably have gotten together in a time when interracial relationships was even more frowned upon) and they decided to "do their own thing", and went on to have a loving marriage for more than 50 years.
What an adorable share by her, and I must say a funny (probably unintentional) jab to those who actually infer or even outright say that Gwen and Miles shouldn't be together for racial reasons, there you have one of the supervisor artists on the film being the child of an interracial marriage and talking about how she "honors her parents" by working on these movies where an interracial relationship is one of the main focuses. All the love to her <3
It’s fair to say that Annemarie Wiley isn’t exactly the breakout star of the season. She wasn’t in this week’s episode, thank goodness.
But it turns out that the damage she has caused in just three episodes has been enough for the other medical housewives to give their opinions.
The way Annemarie interrogated Sutton Stracke at her event was so uncomfortable to watch.
She abused her medical knowledge to embarrass Sutton.
That was a giant red flag to me. And the other medical housewives have reacted to the scene as well.
Annemarie was questioning Sutton about her issues with her esophagus after Kyle Richards insinuated that she has an eating disorder.
And the only reason Annemarie chose to quiz Sutton about her esophagus was because she wanted to embarrass her.
There’s no other agenda for her interrogation.
And Dr. Tiffany Moon from RHOD took to social media to support Sutton:
“The whole scene was kind of cringey to me. I don’t know what made her go at Sutton so hard, especially when it was her party. I found that to be incredibly rude but, yeah, let’s not weaponize our medical knowledge to come at people, especially when you’re wrong.”
“Especially when you’re wrong.” But Annemarie was weaponizing her medical knowledge to embarrass other publicly.
But she also seems like the person who likes to talk a lot and claim that she’s right even if the world tells her that she’s wrong.
Dr. Nicole Martin from RHOM also gave her opinion on Annemarie’s poor behaviour too.
“It does not matter where you fall on the spectrum — all the way from being a tech to being a doctor. You joined the profession to be an advocate for patients, and as such, it is not our place to belittle, question or demean a patient’s symptoms or diagnosis.”
Annemarie tried to spread doubt about Sutton’s condition and was making comments about her mixing alcohol with her medicine too.
Was Annemarie set up by Kyle to go after Sutton’s health issues? A little bit.
But Annemarie, as a nurse, should know better. It was unethical.
also very funny that we have a completely believable best actress in a musical lineup already next year, lmao?? between audra mcdonald, nicole scherzinger, and sutton foster in revivals, plus megan hilty and jennifer simard in death becomes her, what a group
