RPG a Day, Day Six
Favorite game you never get to play: As a Forever GM, I almost never get to play any RPG on the tabletop.
Now, there's those TimeWatch and Night's Black Agents mini-campaigns that I keep threatening my players with, but those are more "fun concepts to play around with" at this point.

A few artsy photos from our Night’s Black Agents game, The Persephone Extraction. Just got out of the underworld. Did not extract Persephone. Ran into a vampire who wanted us to think he was Achilles, Lord of the Underworld. Or was he actually Achilles? Sorting out what’s real and what’s memory or implanted memory had gotten tricky. This is a cool pack of linked modules, although not easy to run! #gaminginthetimeofcovid19 #nightsblackagents #persephoneextraction #gumshoerpg https://www.instagram.com/p/CAOY9b4ht0n/?igshid=1d8fr9h59fcle

With Halloween coming I thought I’d post some work from a past project called the Dracula Dossier. This was a campaign for “The Nights Black Agents”. This first batch of images is the female characters I worked on for this roleplaying game. Check the game out by going to the link in my bio! . . . . #pelgranepress #dracula #draculadossier #nightsblackagents #rpg #roleplayinggame #halloween #artist #illustrator https://www.instagram.com/p/B3Xqqj8jI_S/?igshid=ehnnesw00rmt

The Edom Files are Out!
The Edom Files are Out!
The Edom Files, the adventure supplement for Night’s Black Agents Dracula Dossier, is finally out! It’s been sent out to Kickstarter backers and should be hitting Pelgrane’s online store very soon.
Why is this exciting to me? In addition to being a really cool product, it also has my adventure, “Day of the Wehrwolf” in it.
Which makes it the very first game/supplement that I’ve written and had…

other thing i'm doing today: reading the zalozhniy quartet, a campaign for the tabletop rpg night's black agents (a game about freelance spies and espionage characters dismantling vampiric conspiracies). it's pretty great so far! makes me lol though how often doing background research into a paranormal modern game with military-related elements leads you down weird paths. for example: did you know if you GIS for US military coffins the most informative images lead you to an arabic language radical anti-USA blog and i am probably on a list somewhere now??
also bonus quote: "As an idle suggestion, more than seventy Igla surface-to-air missiles went missing after the fall of the Soviet Union. They’re man-portable and have enough punch and range to take down a 747." good to know

#gaminginthetimeofcovid19: remote #NightsBlackAgents, the #PersephoneExtraction. The agents investigate a secret Soviet-era bioweapons lab in the vicinity of the Russian city of Norilsk (look it up on Wikipedia or a maps app - that city is crazy). The vampire conspiracy comes in hot and heavily armed, but AJ and Eric work desperately to destroy the weaponized Marburg virus will Ayça coordinates the garrison’s defenses and Ticky goes full commando stalking bad guys. It was bad. Not everyone made it out. But the bioweapon was destroyed and the conspiracy left empty-handed. We think. The surviving agents escaped to Volgograd, en route to Greece. The conspiracy may be on the back foot, we hope, but they’re nowhere close to defeated yet. We’re just using Google hangouts, which is fine - it’s not great but it is free. #gumshoe is thankfully not a 5-foot-step kind of game thankfully, so we don’t really need a lot of mapping or detailed location tracking. Just the occasional share when someone needs to know what a Mi-24 Hind looks like. It’s interesting, with Gumshoe One-to-One, The Yellow King, and the upcoming Mutant City Blues 2nd, there have been some significant improvements (in my opinion) to the core Gumshoe rules - Night’s Black Agents actually feels a little dated, although I still like it a lot. Also the Fall of Delta Green rules for military hardware and lethality could easily be imported to Nights Black Agents when you play in Dust mode. We’ve always just used the default technothriller style, but I do think next time I do a longer game the grittier Dust mode would be fun to try. Anyway, if you’re a boardgamer whose exposure to RPGs is limited to D&D3 through 5 and similar, you should really try one of the Gumshoe games sometime - Timewatch, The Yellow King, Night’s Black Agents, and Ashen Stars are all really good. Swords of the Serpentine is their upcoming fantasy game that looks really promising. I also really like their two One-to-One games, Cthulhu Confidential and Night’s Black Agents: Solo Ops. https://www.instagram.com/p/B-yqF3ahbUy/?igshid=17hljhok6g9vs

Keep Your Blood on the Inside. Night’s Black Agents night, session 3 of The Persephone Extraction. We pursue the conspiracy to Barcelona, attempting to infiltrate the rich and powerful but are chased around by armed mercenaries in SUVs. Of course. We also run into actual vampires, which isn’t great. We now have a lot of problems. #nightsblackagents #rpgnight #gumshoerpg https://www.instagram.com/p/B7sbQExBJuY/?igshid=1sr1s4xwaf59g

A few Fury of Dracula 3rd shots. This doesn’t come out a lot, but it’s always fun. I still think they did a really nice redesign with the latest edition, and it’s my favorite (especially now that WizKids has given it a decent rule book). Dracula has been getting a bit hammered in our games, but this time I kinda figured it out and won with a decent margin. We also finished in under 2.5hr, which was great - Fury has always been a bit in the long side. This is a game that usually comes out in October, and the last couple years I’ve always found myself saying we should try to find a way to get it out slightly more often. Another thing I always say: someone really should do a Dracula Dossier/Night’s Black Agents rebuild of this. #bgg #boardgames #boardgamesofinstagram #furyofdracula #draculadossier #nightsblackagents https://www.instagram.com/p/B4O750zgwk-/?igshid=cjfuqeetjz0d

Gumshoe Demo Videos
I ran three GUMSHOE demos this morning at the ConTessa Spring Break weekend!  Each video is 50-60 minutes long. We played over Google Hangouts, with Roll20 for the tabletop. I screwed up in the Ashen Stars game and didn’t have the Roll20 screensharing (dangit!), so you don’t get those pretty pictures. Alas.
First, we went to Krakow, Poland, for an exciting car chase to stop terrorists in Nights…

Gaming Catch-Up
Not wanting to fall too far behind on my gaming writeups, I’ll do a quick summary post:
Wednesday game: We played Time Quest, my Goblin Quest time-travel hack, and it was a lot of fun and resulted in a lot of really good ideas for improving the game. If you want to playtest it, leave a comment here or on Google+.
We’ve decided to put Monster of the Week on hold– my players’ play styles don’t…
