Art club
Nightwatch ref sheet posting once again. Here’s the reference for art club (evil little children). While they definitely aren’t main characters they are important to the story as they reflect the adults around them. You have palette, son of the highly respected gaurdian Dream. Pj and Gradient children of the “temporarily” retired threat to the multiverse, Error. And Punk, adopted child of two loser doctors. These 12 yr old nerds have art skills in common and they come together to form the art club (sponsored by gaurdian of creators, Ink)
Don’t worry these are like some of the only characters who won’t be massively traumatized.
I’m excited for you guys to read them interacting because they have been fun to write so far. They are a good tool for lore building, I use them to explain how ship children exist (it’s not sex dw, no mpreg here folks sorry) and the lack of free will between creators and creations (Poor ink)
Anyways enjoy the designs, toodles

ADDRESSING THE DEADBEAT DAD ACCUSATIONS 💔💔💔💔
(Interesting assumption I’ve been seeing about ink)
I haven’t posted his night watch character sheet yet but in the brief descriptions I’ve had about him it does point to him not being a present parent. While that’s partially true as he doesn’t consider himself a father, he is active in each child’s life and supports them. I keep him pretty close to cannon in personality, and I don’t think ink would be a neglectful father.
I haven’t revealed too much but keep in mind in nightwatch all ship children are not made out of love or compassion, instead are punishments from creators onto characters. They are a tool to create conformity as it adds a risk to the characters behaviours, and less time can be spent exploring themselves so they can’t stray away from their pre determined path. Not to mention the creation of them is incredibly painful.
Gradient, pj, and pallette where not inks faults- ink just was involved in some way and was punished with dream and error. Error took PJ and Gradient and wanted them for himself, Dream felt horrible and swore to take responsibility for Pal. Ink is in all the kids lives as an art teacher, mentor, and financial supporter - just not as a recognized parent.
It seems like ink being a evil neglectful dad is a trope in the fandom and that’s ok, but in nightwatch he does try his best. He cares for creations and anything from the creators, he would not hurt them or hate them. He does see them as a punishment more then children, but he sees most people as tools of the creators. his dissociation from reality makes him not mentally healthy enough to be a dad. (I mean so is dream but he does it anyway gahahh)
It’s odd how black and white the fandom tends to see characters - this is not me targeting it at anyone I’m not mad just, most characters are nuanced people and categorizing complex guys like ink into “bad dad” or “good dad” makes him kinda boring.
In conclusion ink brings the bread home and the paint. He is present just complex

Hmm this information is Very Good for my purposes of making a nightwatch version of Incubux, and since the chances of him having a canon existence in Nightwatch seem very slim I can go as buckwild with this as I want hell yeah
So color scheme wise we’d we working with the black and white and determination red from Cross, but also the dark moss green from Atrophy’s goop and because it’s so corrosive it would likely get contaminated and mixed with determination, making a gradient from clotted, bloody red to muddy brown to moss green.
How does little, fucked up Incubux get away from Atrophy? Well, after Atrophy kills him and moves on, the little soul in the pile of goo and blood re-fuses back together from determination and slinked away. From then it stayed out of sight and just survived and grew for a few years and, once it was big enough, started lurking around aus. Gathering information, imitating the locals, surviving. When its legs failed it, it figured out how to make braces from medical textbooks in abandoned labs. When people ran from its face, it made a mask to wear or stuck to horrortale aus where locals wouldn’t question its appearance. It could use its appearance to terrify a traveling doctor, and if it got lucky the doctor would drop their bag which it could loot for supplies. Hopefully painkillers, stars know it can never have enough of those in stock. When it needed supplies it couldn’t make, it would do odd jobs in a farmtale au in exchange for some food, trade that food in a horrortale for gold, which can be used at shops. It stays away from city aus, too dangerous, too many people. The skeleton with the owl mask (the locals call him “Dream”, it notes) will fire arrows when spooked, arrows that can be used to purge the goo when it gets too much, starts eating too much bone. Purging hurts, but it’s necessary. Ibuprofen isn’t enough for that hurt, it needs stronger painkillers for purging. It can’t stop the determination from eating the goo, but the goo grows back and the determination doesn’t eat bone.
After it traded to be taught how to read and write and speak well (better than just echoing phrases) in a horrortale snowdin’s librarby it decided on the name Incubux, started developing a semblance of a sense of self.
It’s (he? he.) he’s a preteen-sized skeleton-shaped monster with a normal amount of arms and legs—that are functional enough despite the pain—in a black and white cloak with white fur trim that nearly touches the ground around his feet and obscures his shape. He caved and painted a white citizen mask with a hole cut for only his red right eye and grooves carved on the inside to lay flat around the teeth poking out of his face. There’s a fluffy-trimmed hood pulled up over the back of his head and he has gloves that cover up the rest of him. His cloak is stained dark red and brown and green from the goo, but along with the plant-like protrusions growing out from around him he looks more like a woodland spirit then Atrophy…a goo-thing.
(I’ll try to draw him when I have more time. Lmao this was really fun and if you can’t tell I really love Incubux he’s my fav shdbjdjsbdjfb)(also at this point I’m just thinking up shipkids without thinking too deep about the ships fjebjfbd)
Was there an in-between point of passive! Nightmare’s normal face and Atrophy’s…yknow…. Like, how Atrophy eyeball??
(I’ve been thinking too hard about how Nightwatch versions of crossmare errormare or killer mare shipkids would look like because the design style for is au is just too interesting not to, but there’s the issue of how the hell to project how alien Atrophy looks onto a ship kid. Like, with how cross’ scar is longer and across his face maybe nightwatch incubux would have a row of the “teeth” (from the inside of Atrophy’s pupil) protruding out from across his face. Or a nightwatch tenpatch would have the inside of their left eye have the same design as Atrophy’s face hole.)
Tumblr media
Here’s the transition between passive and corruption for atrophy.
Also some of his common faces at the bottom but that’s extra unrelated art
Now Atrophy has no bones or ecto or anything he originally should have. He is just goo, very acidic toxic goo. So if he were to have a baby then that child would probably be incredibly chronically disabled because the goo would eat the organic parts of the child. Atrophy naturally is supposed to present more mold and fleshy like, he just over 700 years now has the resources and practice to shape his body perfect to how he wants it. But a baby wouldn’t so they would look like a uh,, body horror baby. Random sets of teeth in random facial holes and large cysts of painful acid. Small plant like mold growths on their face like whiskers.
An ugly baby most likely. If that baby grew up it would be interesting to see how it looks and develops it’s form.
More realistically Atrophy would kill it as he doesn’t like ugly things, or put it in a little jar in a display case.
Now for shipping
Yk i actually did not write nightwatch with ships in mind believe it or not (with some exceptions). So it was, surprising to say the least when a lot of people talk about ships and nightwatch in my asks. Out of the three ships you mentioned only one is possible? Errormare, but even then Atrophy doesn’t like poor people and they virtually don’t interact. Killer is a slave to Atrophy and Atrophy would rather eat another tree then touch him. and Cross is very much dead (or so how I originally wrote him, but it seems like alot of people want to see cross in nightwatch so uh I’ll consider his life,, I’ll probably bring him back so I guess he’s alive?)
But also in nightwatch, babies are sometimes made through divine intervention. So I guess if creators wanted to fuck with them they would bless the world of nightwatch with a mold baby. Which again atrophy would kill or jar.
Sorry if my reply is a downer, I do enjoy your ideas for design! I think atrophy’s children of they were somehow alive and survived the jar and atrophy- would be a good opportunity for crazy designs like scar teeth (great idea). If they did carry on atrophy’s scar then I think it would be a good metaphor for generational trauma as that scar is just symbolic of his trauma. Idk there’s many interesting ways you can take that and I’m happy you’re thinking about nightwatch.
I do encourage waiting for the comic before shipping because,,,, well there’s a lot of graphic abuse and torture between a lot of characters who are commonly shipped together in the utmv fandom (not just killermare but more). No need to feel bad about this though, I’m not upset and there is no way for you to know that!
Please keep thinking of nightwatcg it makes me happy and I can’t shut up.
