It was Commander Bumi’s idea. Of course it was and he was not going to take no for an answer from Iroh. Something about how Iroh was thinking too much with one head and not enough with the other. The rationale didn’t entice Iroh in the slightest, but apparently Bumi had recruited “reinforcements” in the form of Lieutenant Kishi and Officer Nippa to pull him out of the slump he was in and consider a night on the town as a reset. 

If anything, Iroh would chaperone. 

Fighting a grimace, he relented, sliding into his black leather boots stationed by the door. Iroh much preferred to move of his own free will over the heavy influence of his crewmates. 

Shiai Harbor was objectively nice. Senses and interest piqued until the crew slipped and fell into the Red Light District. And they weren’t going to let Iroh wait neither outside nor back on the ship.

All the women there flinging themselves at Iroh made every muscle fiber bristle. To consider them, they were all remarkably attractive, Iroh would be a fool to deny that. But none were the one he really wanted to see. All he had in remembrance was an empty apartment in the city that went unused and a goodbye letter in his desk drawer back onboard.

As much as it hurt, he couldn’t fault Asami for leaving. Long deployments pulled at the frays of their relationship until he’d caught her quietly sobbing too many times during the little time they did have together. What kind of happiness could he provide her like that?

So instead Iroh hoped. Wished for someone to come into her life and be there for her in the ways he couldn’t. 

And for him?

The nimble fingers of an entertainer glossed over the fine seams of Iroh’s jacket, drawing his attention to her painted lips shaped to a sweet smile. Iroh would have to find something or someone to cover the ache. If he closed his eyes, maybe he could dream it was her.
