My personal language worldbuilding headcannons for FFXV

In FFXV we see everyone speaking the same language with a total of three accents. Here are my contributions:

Just like the USA and England. Lucius and Nifelheim share a language, but have different accents. Insomnia used to have a different and unique accent due to the isolation, but during the 10 year night the accents of Insomnia and the rest of the country converged.

Tenebrae has a Romance-Like language (think Latin mixed with Nordic), which is shared with Accordo but they have different accents. (Side note: people from both countries have Nifelheim accents bc of the occupation and cultural displacement)

Galahad also has a romance-like language, imagine Spanish. Their English accent is diverse due to both Lucian and Nifelheim influence, The Empire influence is not as strong as in Tenebrae as their main interest in them is Materia Prima. Before Magitek, Galahad used to be a good place to look for cheap workforce.

The Glaives Ideologies and the Occupation of Tenebrae

A detail I really liked in Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive was that all the loyal Glaives referred to Lunafreya as “Princess” instead of “Lady” which deflects their discontent with Tenebrae’s occupation by The Empire. A symbol of empathy, as they suffered the same fate.

A surprising difference to the Lucians, who refer her as “Lady Lunafreya”. An imposed title, still we don’t even get a glance of the Tenebraen government, we know it used to be a monarchy (Until Queen Sylva Nox Fleuret’s death) but what happened after that? Is stated that Tenebrae gained some sort of autonomy after Princess Lunafreya ascended as Oracle, but who is in charge? A Parlament? Is it a Viceroy?

Noctis having body dysmorphia

An interesting dynamic that would probably never have been discussed is how Noctis felt, looking as a 30-year-old man but missing out on 10 years of his life.

As a 24-year-old, I’m very different from my 20-year-old self, and each year was important to my development.

But Noctis? He woke up all of a sudden in a body that was very different from his own. He can no longer rely on his young appearance to justify any mistakes; he needs to step up, whether he is ready or not. All of this while his friends did have the chance to grow up, to fail, and learn.

Him? He just woke up in a body that isn’t his own. So, every day he puts on his royal suit like a disguise and pretends to be a well-formed and developed 30-year-old.

Headcannons about Tenebrae during the 10 year night

Tenebrae was famous not only for its floating islands, but its fantastic creatures, dragons, unicorns and so on. At the beginning, it had problems finding its footing due to the recent death of Oracle Lunafreya, but Prince Ravus Nox Fleuret stepped up, organizing resources and using it national treasures to keep everything safe.

With time, the floating islands proved to be their best asset, as the deamons had it difficult to climb them and even if they did, it was easy to defeat them.

The capital regain its importance, the castle was reconstructed and a big part of it was used to host lots of different activities for the people, like dances, courses and so on.

But, the only part that wasn’t touched by anyone was the southern wing, room of the deceased Oracle, where to this day, one can observe the princess hound: Umbra, weeping by the door.

LUCIUS SHOULD HAVE BIG CITIES OUTSIDE OF INSOMNIA

The country feels empty, it is beautiful and I can appreciate null spaces, but we are lead to believe that’s a whole country. Lestallum and Altissia are well done tho (still mad at female lestalum designs tho)

I like to think that Luna can hold somewhat of conversations with Umbra, and (for outsiders) it goes kinda like this:

Luna: Umbra! WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR MOUTH!?

Umbra: *full mouth noises

Luna: your last “nothing” had you in the vet for a week! COME HERE

Umbra: *bark

Luna: no

Umbra: *pleading bark

Luna: Umbra, you won’t eat meat that isn’t well cooked, you wouldn’t survive in the the dog park by your own

Umbra: *angry bark

Luna: DONT BARK ME, Prompto told me you just plop in his couch for the 10 year night!
