The books blood written pages open Invoco Crentus Domini De Daemonium We follow with our white eyes The ceremonial proceeding

Ashabah announces self-titled album
Ashabah is an Occult Black Metal supergroup consisting of musicians from all over the world. Led by US-based Pariah, the main songwriter and lyricist; the group also features Lelahell on vocals (Algeria), Blight on guitar (Chile) and Maikon sitting behind the drum kit all the way from Brazil.
Ashabah has recently announced its self-titled album. This record consists of seven tracks, which weaves a wide variety of black metal aesthetics together, creating a haunting and reflective experience. Taking notes from seminal Finnish black metal bands such as Noenum and Horna, Ashabah has developed a multifaceted approach. The music stands out for the band’s ability to combine melancholy and gloom with melody and a hint of rhythm. In particular, the album was actually inspired by the track "When I Died Inside" by Noenum, which gave Ashabah some ideas to come up with the concept of this new work.
Overall, this record stays true to the staples of classic black metal, but it wouldn't be fair to call it just another black metal record. Sure, if you do enjoy classic bands like Mayhem or Burzum, you'll definitely find something for you here. However, the sound of Ashabah's music brings some innovative elements to the concept, and every song stands out with something to offer.
Let's take a closer look at the songs on the album:
The album unfolds with "Ritual of the Dark Arts." This is a fitting opening track, as it sets the stage for the album's dark atmosphere. Like on many tracks throughout this release, the guitar work is a defining element in the mix, with crushing riffs performed at a rapid pace; this song is the perfect stylistic intro to what listeners can expect from this album.
With eerie drones and intense soundscapes, this song perfectly introduces the mood that permeates the entire record. It introduces the listener to the occult themes explored throughout the album, creating a sense of foreboding and anticipation.
"Dance of the Devil" is a great example of what it means to approach music with an uncompromising attitude. The sound of this track is like controlled chaos, where everything seems to be happening at a very urgent pace. The guitar and drums are chasing each other, almost like two snakes fighting to the death, while the vocals loom over the track with fierce ferocity. The song offers a glimpse into Ashabah's diverse approach to black metal, combining old-school influences with a contemporary twist. The track captures the essence of classic black metal with grinding guitars and relentless drums. This song demonstrates the artist's ability to pay homage to the genre's roots while evolving it into something fresh and unique.
"Incantation I: Darkness" is an evocative yet roaring composition that delves deeper into textural vibes and a richer soundscape. It creates an immersive, dark atmosphere with its haunting melodies and atmospheric elements, allowing listeners to sink further into the abyss of the album's thematic elements. Even on this track, the guitar takes center stage, and the tune's driving riff is one of the most distinctive on the entire album, and it is one of the hallmarks of the arrangement of this song.
The power and intensity of "Incantation II: Storms" is truly distinctive in its sonic impact and emotional depth. This track captures black metal's raw, aggressive essence, delivering a wall of sound that immerses the listener in a tempestuous sonic landscape. The weight of this song is palpable, making it a standout moment on the album. "Incantation III: Blood" is a quintessential black metal track characterized by a sonic barrage that immediately envelopes the listener. The guitars are notable for the fast-picking pattern of the riffs, and how the melody cuts through the mix, while also following the frantic drumming. The relentless, pummeling riffs and thundering drums create an overwhelming, aggressive atmosphere that perfectly embodies the genre's essence. It's a track that will resonate with black metal enthusiasts and offers a relentless, unapologetic experience.
"Incantation IV: War" arrives when the world seems to be spiraling into an abyss of uncertainty, and this song's mood and ominous presence strike a chord with the listener. The track kicks off with some samples of ancient warfare sounds: you can hear swords clashing against shields, horses neighing in fear, and war horns. The war zone vibe creates the right mood for what’s about to unfold, meaning one of the most hard-hitting tracks on this entire release. The relentless assault of the instruments and the anguished, otherworldly vocals mirror the chaos and strife present in the world, making it a powerful reflection of our times.
The album's final track, "Incantation V: Inferno," brings the journey to a climactic close. The guitar riff in the introduction has an almost hard-rock feel to it, but the vocals and the relentless drums actually add to a typically black metal texture. The repetition of the word “Inferno” adds tension and urgency to the song, and the reverb-drenched vocal echoes add to the overall lore of the track. This song is a perfect conclusion to an album that has offered a diverse and immersive array of sounds. The track unleashes a sonic inferno, immersing the listener in a dark and chaotic energy vortex. It's a fitting end to a musical journey that has explored the depths of black metal while leaving a lasting impression.
Ultimately, one of the most remarkable qualities of this entire record is that it offers a retro-inspired sound, without necessarily sounding nostalgic or vintage. The guitars have a marked 80s color, with a strong midrange and a soaring tone. The drums tip the hat off to old-school hardcore and thrash, adding an extra layer of rhythm and depth that is sometimes absent from more traditional black metal releases, where the beat is more like a wash of notes rather than a well-defined pattern like it happens on this record.
To conclude, Ashabah's self-titled album is a testament to the group's ability to navigate black metal's intricate and multifaceted world and create something very personal. With this self-titled studio effort, Ashabah crafted an album that defies the scene's convention, blurring the lines between different philosophies and coming up with something unapologetically individualistic and distictive. All black metal fans will undoubtedly appreciate theintense listening experience that this record brings to the audience. However, the music will also appeal to fans of thrash, melodic death metal, hardcore and other style, on the grounds of the immense versatility and variety that makes this record different from other black metal offerings.
Find out more and listen via Soundcloud or pre-order the album on vinyl and CD via the band’s website.
