my demon: do-gyeong and se-ra
do-gyeong and se-ra are such interesting characters. episode 16 really shows us what kind of relationship they could've had, what kind of people they could've been, had suk-min not been poisoning them both so badly.
the little gesture of se-ra giving do-gyeong the scar cream, and then later finding the family photo do-gyeong had folded everyone else out of, so it was just him and se-ra. they only had each other who knew what was going on, and they *could've* been great support together.
but in the end, se-ra turned a blind eye to the abuse suk-min was putting do-gyeong through (while also receiving similar treatment herself), and do-gyeong ended up as a murderer, before committing suicide. he desperately needed psychiatric help, and to be away from suk-min.
se-ra 100% could've been a better mother to do-gyeong but she has lost sooo much by the end. im v v glad she managed to escape suk-min

was just a little underwhelmed by the ending
gu-won as a demon?? would make more sense if he was reborn as a human especially since the last few episodes showed him being conflicted with his demon duties and his humane side
i needed noh suk-min to die. LIKE HOW DID HE NOT DIE AFTER EVERYTHING BUT DO-HEE DIED AFTER A BULLET TO THE BACK????? he crashed to the water, thousands of feet in the air, burned half of his face off, got crushed by the cement ceiling and gu-won did something to him again AND STILL NO DEATH?????? its not cathartic enough to me that he hallucinated his mom in the jail cell
also this may just be me but ga-young's plotline was so half assed to me. i get why the writers came full circle with her saving an abused child and showed the difference between her and gu-won but idk i cant pinpoint it
i dont hate the finale, but the last few episodes were weaker than the beginning and this one was the weakest. but i still love the show and im glad do-hee and gu-won got their happy ending HOWEVER
gu-won being a demon means that he stays the same age and she'll die eventually so it makes the issue of him staying a demon glaringly worse. i just think this could've been handled better

Drama rec masterlist | Drama rant thread (beware of spoilers)
Tumblr media
I had so much fun watching this drama. It's one of those dramas where Tumblr just forms this little community around a drama as it airs, and I was lucky enough to be able to be a part of it almost from the very beginning.
This drama had so many twists and turns and cliffhangers, and I had such a good time freaking out over everything with people on here.
The drama was actually genuinely funny, and though I may not have laughed out loud, I definitely found myself doing the huff laugh a lot. They knew what they were doing, and the jokes just landed every single time.
It does get dark at times too though, and I do have to make a trigger warning for blood, murder, mental illness, self-harm, suicides and just a very uncomfortable and creepy villain.
Jeong Gu-won is not the brooding, gloomy type of male lead you might think when reading what the drama is about. Instead, he's a drama queen with a flair for fashion. He's childish and whiny, but also openly caring and loving - very golden retriever coded, actually. It sounds weird, but it really works so well for this drama.
And oh my god, I love Do Do-hee so much. She's a boss ass bitch when she needs to be, but is actually just as much a whiny drama queen as Gu-won. She knows what she wants and will do whatever it takes to get it, but also knows when it's time to stop and take a step back.
And the two of them are such a good match! Petty and childish, all with their own huge baggage of trauma that they help each other unpack. And they usually communicate their feelings well with each other. The drama doesn't rely on miscommunication as a way to create drama - if something happens, they resolve it almost immediately, and I love that.
The overall murder-mystery and who-did-what managed to throw things at me that I sometimes didn't see coming, which was nice.
If I do have to say something more negative, the drama does at times feel a little superficial in a way I can't quite explain. I did see some people complain about the same - that it felt plastic sometimes. And they do make some decisions - especially towards the last half of the drama - that I might not really be 100% into. The first half of the drama is definitely the best part.
But overall, I still had such a good time watching, and it's definitely one I'll rewatch again someday.

My Demon : 1x13 & 1x14
Those two episodes were very sad to watch, even if everyone discovered that Noh Suk-Min was the true evil from the story.
I'm even more heartbroken at the end, when Jeong Gu-Won left Do Do-Hee to make her happy.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Do Do-Hee's father made a wish with Jeong Gu-Won in order for him to have a child with his wife, which will turn out to be Do Do-Hee. So question: Is Jeong Gu-Won responsable for Do Do-Hee's birth?
The last two episodes next week.
Some quotes:
"- I just lost both my mother and son." (Noh Suk-Min) - From the way you act, I can't tell you're grieving." (Do Do-Hee - Episode 13)
"- I always thought you were good at nothing, but there's one thing you're good at." (Noh Suk-Min - Episode 13)
"- People apologize to feel better about themselves." (Noh Suk-Nyeo - Episode 14)
"- Let's say that you believed someone pulled you out of hell. But it turns out that person was actually the one who threw you into hell." (Jeong Gu-Won - Episode 14)
"- There's nothing to be done. Every goal requires some collateral damage." (Episode 14)
"- The people I love have become my hell. I loved them with all my heart, but now I resent them to death." (Do Do-Hee - Episode 14)
"- That's not just because you're a demon. Humans are always each other's personal hell." (Noh Suk-Nyeo - Episode 14)

Let me preface by saying, I am not trying to justify any of Do Kyung's actions. This is simply an analysis on his character. Yes, he's done bad things and should face the consequences. With that being said, I hate how his mental health is being handled in the drama. Not the way it's written per se but how a few characters handle it.
His Dad
Literally, all of what Do Kyung is facing right now stemmed from how he was brought up. Having to be perfect at everything and putting on a facade for the cameras. His dad showed NO interest in him beyond his "offerings." An example being: "Is he good enough to be my heir?,"is he good enough to commit such a crime?" He has also had to prove himself in his own family, and that can cause a person's psyche to become altered and disrupted. His dad, to me, is also a victim, and I'll expound later in Chairwoman Jo's paragraph.  Him calling Do Kyung a monster is quite ironic as well. Who could've created such a monster, I wonder? Let me guys know if you ever come up with an answer.
His Mom
She's a victim as well. She's very submissive and lacks agency. Her helplessness and naivety are actually quite scary as this makes her a tool that the father can use at any time. Her scene in the prison where she visited Do Kyung actually had me tearing up. That was what led me to even start writing this. Just her one statement, "You disobeyed your dad." That just showed how she herself can't do anything without approval from the dad. I don't even think she realizes the damage she's done to the poor child. Her also just moving on with her life after seeing her son breaking down in front of her just goes again to show how disconnected she really is. And even at the funeral, she looked like she had so much to say, but she just wasn't able to. Her entire marriage, all she's known, is serving her husband and being a "good wife." Of course, nothing else will come before that. Not even her son.
Do Kyung
Do Kyung making such a choice is understandable, to say the least. As someone who has struggled with mental health. Such a method has always been seen as the way out. Notice I didn't say easy. Because such a choice is NEVER easy. Poor guy wasn't even being treated while he was locked up in prison. Everyone putting the blame on him for EVERYTHING was so unnecessary and unfair as well. He was a jerk, evil, and downright nasty, but no one with mental health issues should be placed in such an environment.  Especially without proper medication and care.
This is dedicated to the worst character of the show in MY OPINION.
His Doctor
Ohhhhh I was fuming when he called him a psycho. I was so annoyed. Do Kyung was a patient. He was actively seeking help in an environment that ostracized mental health issues. Yes, he may not have been the nicest or taken his medication all the time, but he was still trying. He was doing the best he could in an environment that wouldn't allow for much growth. And for someone whom he was supposed to trust and tell his entire life to say something like that was just downright nasty. No matter if he was a psycho or not. If the doctor had felt that he was a threat, then he should've reported him to the necessary authorities. Disrespecting a patient is never the right thing to do. I was so elated when Do Kyung beat his a** up. Leapt from my chair in joy.
Final Character
Chairwoman Jo
This is kinda hmmm. Like I think everything that we're seeing and all the characters in the Noh family all have their respective issues due to her. In a flashback, we could see that she treated Suk Min similarly to how he treated Do Kyung. Talk about generational trauma. Of course, Suk Min would've replicated what he was taught. In this specific scene, she was talking about sending Suk Min to prison for a crime he had committed because he had gotten away with "too much." This literally shows that she had been sweeping all of his wrongs under the rug as she wanted someone picture perfect to take over her beloved company. Suk Min was never enough for her, similarly to how Do Kyung wasn't enough for him. She didn't care much for them.
I think that she saw an opportunity to right ALL her wrongs through Do Hee. Do Hee to her was a new slate. All the things she did with Suk Min and Su Ahn could've been "erased" by raising Do Hee in a less restrictive way. As she was able to do all this, she decided to give Do Hee the company. I think that was very wrong. Of course, Suk Min didn't create the company, and it isn't "his" looking from it at a more Western perspective. As Chairwoman Jo built it from the ground up, however, she had Suk Min training ALL his life with only one thought in mind. Him owning the company and carrying on her legacy. And for her to throw such a curve ball, of course, he'd be upset and pissed off. This is not me justifying all the rubbish he's done, though. I'm just saying I would be very upset if I were in his position. As such, I think Chairwoman Jo is kinda the biggest villain in a sense. Because all these "monsters" were created through her training and teachings. Plus, episode 12 ending kinda proved me right in a sense.
So that is that. My little two cents on a few characters and why I think Do Kyung isn't the biggest of villains. Poor kid needed love, and that wasn't given to him. Still, he was disgusting jerk, but he needed love. If he was given that care and affection, maybe he would've been different. If Suk Min, his dad was given more love and care and approval, maybe he would've been different as well.

so having read @mindmeltonabun-blog 's analysis of the plagiarism in My Demon, I felt strangely compelled to give my own review, since I have been pondering on it for quite some time now ever since I've finished it.
In short, my opinion would be, that the drama is a rather shallow, superficial, but visually stunning rendition of a popular trope that has been done a gazillion times before. It leaves a lot to the viewer's interpretation and their imagination due to the lack of proper explanation of major events in the plot. Think, an adaptation of a popular teen novel from the 2010s- short on everything but chemistry between the main actors (Fallen from 2016, The Mortal Instruments from 2013, heck even Twilight as the post stated as well and many more). The author laid out a nice blue print of a story that could have worked, had it been better researched and had she paid more attention to details. My particular problem with this drama was Gu Won's obvious identity crisis, which stems mainly from the fact that the author herself didn't really know what he was supposed to be. Like is he a demon, plucked from the many or is he the devil himself? He calls himself a demon, then then devil, he often claims that God's his boss, God herself says that she sent him there among humans, because she needed a "worker", which to me heavily implies that he's an angel..? Am I the only one who couldn't quite understand that part? And after the small discussion I had with certain commenters on Mydramalist, I guess I agree with the fact that he's supposed to be some kind of a fallen angel, mirroring the real devil, but that still doesn't explain as to why God called him "her worker". I guess, everything's part of the author's scarcely explained lore.
The Christian elements of the story, especially the Joseon Era part, were interesting (like I would totally watch a standalone drama following only that arc of the story, it's ten times more original than the main one), but totally lacked in execution and research which made a complete jumbled mess of the whole story, I did catch a few references to the Bible here and there, dunno if they were intentional or not.
Do Do Hee, to me, seemed like an even more washed out replica of Nam Ji Ah from The Tale of the Nine Tailed, mainly in how she was structured: she was strong, independent and formidable until she met her male lead and in a way she served as a feisty enigma for him to solve throughout the first few episodes, until he did and she fell flat, constantly in a need of his protection and reassurance. The "Succession" part of the show was an absolute chaos, it was obvious from the beginning who the culprit was and his tactics were honestly laughable, he wasn't terrifying at all, yet alone secretive and elusive, his whole character seemed to have escaped from a makjang if you ask me. There was no real fight, no palpable hatred and conflict between Do Do Hee and him, he spent strategically more time stroking Gu Won's magical book and chatting up the maniac he hired in sketchy chatrooms, instead of doing evil things. I would so preferred if the guy who was obsessed with Do Do Hee (for whichever reason we'll never find out btw or maybe I missed it, dunno) was the real villain instead of Noh Suk Min, he at least, evoked pure disgust and uneasiness in me, while Noh Suk Min made me laugh, literally. Oh and what a marvelous waste of Lee Sang Yi, his role was literally useless he was just there to be pretty (I love you boo <333333). Let's not forget the detectives please- they were even more useless, they just existed to be clueless about their jobs and look raggedy and lost most of the time.
The whole tone of the drama should have been different and more graphic. For a drama that deals with such heavy topics, it should've been darker, grittier, scarier, Gu Won should have been more dangerous, bolder, more seductive, sexier and more lethal, I mean he's a literal demon and given his tragic backstory he should have been truly ruthless, preying on people's misfortunes and feasting on the terrible outcome, in fact I think I would prefer for him to have been a libertine living an absolutely lavish and debauched life in the human underworld, where he would find most of his potential clients instead of the doleful theatre owner who mopes around clock towers looking for "his next victim", it just doesn't match the person he became after seeing Do Do Hee's past version dead and killing all of those people because of it (I mean Song Kang is more than a capable actor to do such a character, I wanna cry thinking what we've been deprived of seriously). For someone who boldly exclaims his hatred of people, he seems quite timid in hurting them, he should have been shown literally torturing people who didn't adhere to the contract and who wanted to escape it, instead he is just stuck in a dress up game with a plot that progresses nowhere and most of the time selectively "borrows" elements from other famous dramas. In fact the same thing could be said for Do Do Hee as well; as much as I liked most of her outfits, she was presented as this notorious business woman in episode one, but all she ever does in the rest of the episodes is just drive around town, looking like a Barbie doll.
I'm sure there were more things that irked me, but I just can't remember at the moment so I'll just stop here. The sole thing that saved this show was the chemistry between the leads.

Was it Love
Was it love starts quite well and by the middle of the story I was enjoying it quite a bit and quite motivated with what could still happen. The premise of a single mother with 4 possible fathers, the mystery of what happened in the past and all the comedy elements were well introduced and I was expecting an excellent drama since it's from 2020 and has good actors. Unfortunately halfway through it took off in the worst possible way to a disastrous ending. So much potential, not developed as it could be.
Pros
Son Ho-jun as Oh Dae-oh - I've been really enjoying watching Son Ho-jun lately and he's the reason why I got invested in this story AGAIN after dropped it when it came out. I loved Oh Dae-oh. He's a man who comes across as outspoken, sweet and passionate during the development of his story and I think he deserved so much more than writer-nim had in store for him. I would have loved to see him be the father and partner he hoped to be.
Kim Min-jun as Koo Pa Do - This actor was perfect for the role of a gangster mobster with a big heart. Plenty of presence and charisma. Unfortunately, he's not given much screentime or opportunity to develop. His relationship arc with Dong Chan (Yoon Seung-woo) looked promising but also fell short.
Ha Ni (Chae-Young Um) and Dong Chan together - I loved watching these two young actors perform and it was one of my favourite parts of the drama. Seeing the two of them work together to find Ha-ni's father is adorable.
Kim Young-a as Kang Suk-hee - the main character's best friend had little screentime but made her presence felt. Suk-hee's personality was enigmatic yet direct and quite insightful. I wish her dynamic with Pa Do was explored more.
Cons
Song Ji-hyo as Noh Ae-jung - played by one of the actresses I don't really like, she was fine, but I hated Ae-jung's personality. The writer-nim tried to paint a picture of super mum, caring, generous and talented, but without spoilers, halfway through the story she just struck me as someone selfish, spiteful and unrealistic.

Lee Mi-joo...Kkondae power explosion
Tumblr media
Lee Mi-joo started to organize the rankings against Kang Daniel.
Jeon So-min and Lee Mi-joo showed their excitement in the appearance of Kang Daniel. Yoo Jae-seok burst out laughing, "Jeon So-min's frown has been coming out for a long time," and observed, "Daniel is a little difficult." Then, Lee Mi-joo took her romance part, saying, "She doesn't have to be awkward at all."
On this day, the members and guests conducted a sixth sense reasoning with the theme of Korea's first restaurant as a special feature of Munikjeom in the catering industry. The candidates were Korea's first Portuguese restaurant, Korea's first 50cm sushi restaurant, and a specialty meat restaurant selling pork veins.
In particular, the members were astonished at the special meat restaurant that sells pig blood vessels. Noh Sa-yeon showed interest in food and began to suspect, "I'm friendly with pigs, but this is the first time I've heard of them eating blood vessels."
On this day, she arrived at the fake candidate restaurant and set her table, and Lee Mi-joo asked, "How old is Daniel?" and tried to rearrange her order. When Daniel Kang procrastinated and took out his chopsticks, Jeon So-min wondered, "Did you take it out of her pocket?"
Kang Daniel was active in the 'Guess the Childhood' corner. While everyone was at a loss for the question, "Write 'bee' as you pronounce it", Daniel Kang answered 'Ying-ying-ing'. Yoo Jae Suk admitted, "As expected, Daniel is the purest."

He Is Psychometric Episode 15-16 Review (Series Finale)
This review contains spoilers from episode 15 and 16. You have been warned.
Tumblr media
I can’t believe at one point of this whole story my biggest concern was proving Sung-mo had feelings for Ji-soo, which for the record he totally did, but how could I possible imagine the writer would take the darkest road of all.
Starting with the Yeon-song apartment building murders and fire, I was holding out hope for Sung-mo to be innocent but that would mean there was hope for him and, let’s be honest, he never had a fighting chance. From the moment he was introduced to us, his character was already cryptic af, clearly playing a long game, and we were wishing for answers... how naive we were.
I have to wonder, what would have happened if Mom and Sung-mo wouldn't have isolated themselves so much from other people after they escaped the first time? Would it had changed anything? Did they even know how to trust others after so many years living inside a cage and then having to run away constantly? Would Sung-mo had called Ahn’s father that night? Would have he realized, by interacting further with others, that not everyone was a disappointment like the police who didn’t investigate his mother’s case or a crazy person like Kang Geun-tae?
Up to that point in his story, the night of the fire, Sung-mo had no real interaction with anyone else other than Mom and Kang Geun-tae. Sure, he had his moments with Jae-in, Ahn and their respective fathers but they were small and insignificant in comparison to everything else he went through. No, in my eyes, Sung-mo remains a victim of abuse and fear who was pushed too far.
I even wondered if Mom was to blame. Whatever her nurturing was lacking because she made an emphasis on intellectual understanding, instead of actual interaction with others and learning through practice. But then I remembered, she sent Sung-mo to school not only to learn but to try have a normal life, make friends, and he lied to her. He chose to stay at the door of the apartment building as a lookout.
Then I wondered if perhaps she relied on him too much, since she was the adult and he was the child but then it’s wrong to put blame on her in the first place because she too was a victim. With more than two decades of confinement, sexual, psychological and emotional abuse, she was doing her best. She was as terrified and desperate as Sung-mo, and what else could she have possible done when -at the time of the incident- even she wasn’t willing to trust or interact with others just in case Kang Geun-tae showed up?
At the same time, tho, I feel she was so oblivious to other’s pain that she failed to really understood the pain her own son was going through, even before the apartment fire. Did she really never suspected what he was doing in order to protect her? And even all those years later, was she truly so blind as to believe Sung-mo was using his work as a prosecutor to send Kang Geun-tae to jail?
No. Sung-mo was doomed from the beginning and so were all the relationships he built through the years, once he understood that other people are the ones who help us experience and understand emotions, but by then it was too late. He had already gone a path with no return. He felt guilt towards Ahn and Jae-in most of all because their respective parents had been kind to him and lend a helping hand, understanding he needed one. And because he didn’t know how or wasn’t able to accept that help, he ended up killing one of them and sending the other to jail for a crime he didn't commit. Same goes for Ji-soo. Sung-mo pushed her away not only to protect her from Kang Geun-tae but because he understood they couldn’t have a future. Sung-mo always knew where his story ended and that meant paying for his crimes.
The most tragic part of the whole story is what finding out the truth meant for Ahn. After the death of his parents, it was Sung-mo and Ji-soo who took the place of role models for him. Perhaps it sounds crazy because they were only 10 or 11 years older, but they were his new family. The people who believed in him, who took care of him, nagged him to do better in school, and gave him a home. By the end of the show, they are both scars and bittersweet memories of a person whose death he feels responsible for and another who he cares about but can’t forgive. I know we have talked about how Ahn is one of the most emotionally stable characters and I appreciate the show making us understand he’s struggling quietly with his feelings towards Sung-mo and Ji-soo, but I don’t think he will ever be able to forgive Sung-mo. Understand him, yes, as we have already seen. Forgive? I’m not sure.
As for Jae-in, even though she cared for Ji-soo and Sung-mo, her journey was always about proving her father’s innocence. It was heartbreaking to hear her say that at one point she doubted him, especially when we have seen throughout so many episodes how filial she is to him. This confession I find it a little out of character but reasonable when you think about the bigger picture. I’m glad she has found a group of colleagues she can trust to do proper police work.
Which takes me to YSS Construction Company and the government corruption case. Personally, I find it was wrapped up quite nicely and a little rushed. There are still many connections to the criminal organization and other officials but that remains to be solved, which is something I am guessing Jae-in, Detective Nam and Detective Lee will make a lifelong goal to achieve.
The half-baked conclusion to this storyline was so disheartening in some aspects that even Dr. Hong decided to take a sabbatical until she felt it was right to comeback to work for the police and prosecutor’s office. Let’s be honest, without Ji-soo, she didn’t know who to trust.
Not everyone had a bittersweet ending, tho, since Detective Nam and Aunt Sook-ja have been dating for a while and they are terrible at keeping it a secret. But another two cuties have nothing to hide: Dae-bong’s years of hard work (and sort of stalking, let’s face it) trying to win over So-hyun finally paid off. They all end up a happy and big family that Ahn and Jae-in can rely on.
Overall, He is Psychometric turned out to be the dark horse of 2019. It came out of nowhere becoming one of the best shows of the year thanks to a compelling story and solid performances. The main four are all relative new as leads but they carried the show with ease.
After Kim Kwon won Best New Actor award last year, as long time fan, I was looking forward to see what his next project would be and I’m not surprised he picked this particular story. He’s always been more drawn to complex and layered characters, and I think we can all agree Sung-mo was exactly that. Many people have commented on twitter they have fallen for him, not only for his good looks, but also for his performance and it makes me incredible happy he’s being recognized.
Kim Da-som has come a long way since the first roles she took on. Her performance as Ji-soo was so good, she became the source light when the story started to go a darker path. And once it was gone, so was all hope for a happy ending. It’s a difficult task to become the heart of a series but she did it gracefully.
I’m mostly impressed with Park Jinyoung and Shin Ye Eun, whom I confess I hadn’t heard about before this show. I believe it’s both their first time in leading roles but I’m sure we will see them in other projects soon enough.
