hey! i saw a comment you made about your cannabilism thesis and i was just wondering if you found any anecdotes or stories that have haunted you since and if you’d be willing to share them?

Look the entirety of my college years haunts me because school is ass. But that being said the essay was actually about themes of cannibalism in literature such as a veteran appearing as a used up old husk after returning from war because his government had cannibalized his spirit, and so on.

But also I find wanting to know if stories of cannibalism haunt me is kind of a weird thing to ask? Like I'm not knocking it of course because I like asking weird shit too but I feel like there's some kind of underlying psychology behind this ask that would be so interesting to delve into.

My husband and I are currently without jobs (he’s been looking since last May!) and while we're going to be okay for a few months, I'd like to do my part to carry our bills and eliminate more debt. where do you get official merch?

I’m gonna assume you mean merch for fma in which case the answer is a fair number of different places! At this point in the game the majority of fma merch is discontinued, with some occasional bursts of activity from sanrio or cafe lines. That means most everything is on reselling sites like ebay. 

However finding anime stuff on ebay sucks real hard cause it’s real expensive and there usually isn’t a lot, so I usually go to the japanese websites and look for stuff there. My main go to is fromjapan, which is great cause it pulls from a whole bunch of different japanese reselling sites and lets you bundle your orders into one international shipment.

In addition to that some other reselling sites I’m aware of are noppin, mercari, and goodsrepublic!

Roo (Mitsuru)

Name: Mitsuru (光流), Roo for short

Sculpt: Fairyland MiniFee Niella head in normal skin on Alchemic Labo Chibi Unoa Roron boy body in fresh skin

Arrived: Head August 2018, body November 2018, put together on 29th May 2019

Provenance: Head ordered from Fairyland via a local split in July 2018.  Body purchased from Ariko on DoA (originally from a 2015 Noppin pre-order).  

When I feel obliged to begin describing a character as “He’s not a bad kid, really...”, you know he’s gonna be a handful. ^^;  Mitsuru is the only child of two jet-setting designer parents.  His mother is constantly showering him with clothing she designs especially for him (delivered to Small Wonder by courier), but both she and his dad hardly ever spend time with him face-to-face, leaving him to be raised by a succession of nannies.  Perhaps because of all this, he’s rather attention-seeking, and skilled at using his cuteness to manipulate others and get them on his side.  ^^;  (So yes, he’s a bit of a handful...)  

Mitsuru latches on to Shiina very soon after enrolling at Small Wonder.  Shiina is a bit bemused at first by his new little “shadow”, but as he’s a volunteer kindergarten helper and used to taking care of younger kids, he adapts to having him around pretty quickly.  However, Mitsuru’s clingy-ness annoys Shiina’s roommate Micchi, who promptly gives him the silly nickname “Roo” - short for Mi-tsu-ru, but also a jab at how he sticks to Shiina like a baby kangaroo to its mom.  ^^; Unfortunately for Micchi, everyone thinks it’s the cutest nickname ever and Roo happily goes on to appropriate it as his pet name.

Roo’s favourite colour is holographic (Shan: that’s not a colour >_>).  He craves attention and likes being spoiled.  He’s done a bit of modelling for special kids’ editions of his mother’s fashion line (but she made sure the visuals were only used overseas, so he doesn’t get recognised in these parts).

My thoughts: Within my collection, Roo is significant for being my first non-Volks doll purchase, my first and only major body modification project, and my first cross-company hybrid in 15 years of owning dolls!  ^-^   He’s pretty special to get me to make the jump outside my comfort zone, no?  To read more about the entire modding process to get this MNF/ Chibi Unoa hybrid together, see this post.

Oh no, that’s not good. I’ve never heard of the site but it seems like other people are having the same problem.

Do you know of any email addresses/social media accounts you could contact them on? It seems strange that the site would be down and they wouldn’t keep members updated somewhere.

I just…I was really tired of angst you know? Which is ironic when I have liek a bunch of character death fics….yeah ok, so I had a phase, sue me, but then the Langst just kept getting….unhealthy, like, every post I saw was more and more and more unhealthy, OR at least the ones I saw, (in my perspective, in my eyes) and I just said like, you know what? enough. 

So, I did what every mature adult do: stopped reading langst, lmao. Like, I never actually looked into the tag? but posts would still appear in my dash? and i would read them and they would break me so what I did was like: ok, I see that TITLE and NOPPIN G THE FUCK OUT OF HERE 

But then I was like, ….ok but now I gotta heal my poor tiny heart….lafluff. 

And ta-dah! LaFLUFF was born! 

I would say that I didn’t expect it to be a thing but I tottally did. Like, not to be a BIG thing but I was determinated to spread it, like: “ok, fight fire with fire, langst with lafluff. they can totally co-exist in harmony.” 

bc come on, let’s face it, there was literally….???? no lafluff??? around???? how the hell did we actually live before? just angst?? just pain?? jfc. 

Like, don’t get me wrong guys, I’m not saying langst is bad, I just don’t dig it anymore. There are many authors out dare that actually make amazing langst that is healthy and like, they show comfort and support.

Honestly, I mostly use ebay. Usually if you add a specific keyword like “rare” or “japan” when u search fma, some cool stuff will come up. I recently found oze193 a user from japan who has a ton of fma merch for pretty good prices and it came sUPER quick!! (i got a super cute al keychain :)) some other awesome sellers i’ve bought from over the years are Silvrdrago (this person specializes in animation cels, I got the cel of ed getting al from the gate from this user :D), ninjalyzamurai358 (lots of p rare stuff!), and hoihoisan11 (they have consistently good stuff, not too much atm tho)

If you wanna go hARDCORE, try noppin. This is an english version of yahoo auctions, basically it’s a bunch of listings in japan that only those in japan can get, you place a bet (or buy the item immediately) and then noppin orders it for you, receives it from the seller then sends it to you. It’s SUPER AWESOME for finding rare fma stuff or japan-only stuff, I used to use it alllllll the time, and still love to browse it because there’s SO MUCH. The only downsides are shipping is like $20+ and it takes a month or two to get. But gOD I LOVE IT

Also PLSPLSPLS check out etsy!! There are some AMAZING artists on there with fma merch and I LOVE artist made merch!! If you can’t go to cons, etsy is prob the next best place to go for fan made stuff. Some of my favs to get you started are Giraffalopebuttons5, kmmcmdraws5 and cirquecarte5 :) some artists also use storenvy so check that out if you’re interested!

Also hot topic, for all we make fun of it, has some bomb ass fma merch lol i get like 90% of my fma clothing from them 

Kinokuniya is also amazing! If you ever have the chance to go to one in person, do it!! Their in store stuff is best (i’ve gotten fma blind boxes and the art books from there in person) but you can also shop online! They have fma books in japanese too which is cool to see! Another store that’s better irl but you can shop online is ImageAnime. In store they have super rare, out of print merch and gOSH it’s amazing.

Hi anon! YJA is Yahoo Japan Auctions and Buyee is a company that lets you use YJA (and a few other japanese marketplaces) from overseas :) I haven’t used them recently but prior to last year I used them regularly after switching from Noppin and they’re very reliable. They charge a service fee of course and you pay the domestic postage within Japan (usually it is very little) to their warehouse and then have the items shipped to you internationally. I haven’t looked at Japan Discoveries prices or what’s available on auctions recently (YJA isn’t as good as it was a few years back because so many people have migrated to Mercari) but if you keep an eye out and are a bit patient you can usually get stuff at a MUCH better price than on places like Japan Discoveries. :)

You can buy it from Yahoo! Actions (JP) here for 3,000円 (27$), but you’ll need a proxy service like FromJapan, Noppin or Japamart to be able to purchase from that site (and a lot of Japanese bidding sites in general).
