Concept for the next Supermassive game (aka the third installment in the “Until Dawn”/”The Quarry” trilogy):
1) The title:
“The Bayou” (so, the game’s main setting is a swamp)
2) The main villain:
A swamp monster/Fish Man (ex.: “The Creature from the Black Lagoon”, “Swamp-Thing”, “Man-Thing”)
3) The secondary villains:
* A brainwashed cult that worships the Fish Man (ex.: “Children of the Corn”, “Midsommar”, “The Wicker Man”)
* The leader is played by horror movie icon Tobin Bell (John Kramer/Jigsaw from the “Saw” movies)
4) The Narrator, this game’s version of the Analyst and Eliza Vorez:
* Played by Phill Lewis aka Mr. Moseby from “Suite Life” (since Ashley Tisdale and Brenda Song appeared in previous games)
* Later revealed to be the scientist who created the Fish Man, not realizing what he unleashed to the world. So, now he’s helping the player destroy the Fish Man in order to atone for his actions.
5) The main playable cast (in my head, the main characters are Fish Man enthusiasts who want to capture the Fish Man on film):
* Danielle Harris (Jamie Lloyd from the “Halloween” franchise, Tosh from “Urban Legend”) plays the unofficial female lead
* Daveed Diggs (Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson from “Hamilton”) plays the unofficial male lead
* Amber Rose Revah (Dinah Madani from “The Punisher”) plays the soft-spoken one who has a crush on Iain’s character
* Iain De Caestecker (Leo Fitz from “Agents of SHIELD”) plays the comic relief one who has a crush on Amber’s character
* Mark Stanley (Grenn from “Game of Thrones”) plays the jackass who annoys the group
* Aaron Yoo (Russell Kwan from “The Tomorrow People”) plays the conspiracy theorist who brought the gang to the Fish Man’s territory
* Jessica Parker Kennedy (Nora West-Allen from “The Flash”) plays the new girl who hasn’t quite gotten used to the team yet

The Mosley Review: The Flash
Tumblr media
Oh how the DCEU has had its ups and many downs. Each character for the most part has taken a turn in the spotlight and now we finally get a solo film for our favorite scarlet speedster and it was as fun and exciting as I hoped it would be. The excellent opening sequence sets the sometimes quirkie and hilarious tone of the film that is very reminiscent of Back to the Future. I was especially surprised by the emotional depth the film carried for not only the titular character, but the supporting characters as well. If you know The Flash's history through comics, animation or the excellent CW series, don't worry. This film follows a familiar plot point, but takes a fresh approach to it. The consistent pacing of this multiversal adventure was great and I loved when it actually slowed down to deliver the thematic elements of choice and living with your past. Not all the characters worked but the ones that do, steal the film and get you excited to see how they react as the story progressed.
Tumblr media
Ezra Miller came off more as Wally West humor and personality wise in earlier films but in this film, he finally plants his feet firmly in the role of Barry. Ezra takes Barry on the familiar emotional rollercoaster of his origin story and it was fun to see a fresh take. I loved his balanced amount of humor and heart in many great moments with his father Henry, portrayed by the wonderful Ron Livingston. The chemistry between them really hammered home the motivation and emotional turmoil of Barry's decisions. Ezra does double duty as Barry deals with a younger alternate version of himself and it was a great mirror for him to look into. Their interactions made older Barry more mature and centered. Ben Affleck reprises his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman and I enjoyed the mentor nature of their friendship the most in this film. It carries over from both Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon's versions of the Justice League film so well and it was great to see Ben again. The great Michael Keaton returns as the 1989 Bruce Wayne / Batman and he hasn't skipped a beat. He has evolved the character in a fascinating way and I liked what he became. It answers the question that many have had. What would retired Bruce Wayne / Batman be like? When you finally see him move and fight in his new batsuit, he shines and is as badass as you remember. I couldn't get enough of him and I loved that he acknowledges his mortality in many great scenes. Sasha Calle was fierce, strong and a massive standout as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl. I loved the much darker and violent take on the character as we get to see a more stoic version of the character through her intense eyes. There is so much more to mine out of that character and it is a shame that we will never get to see her interact with Henry Cavill's Superman. Now the one person that stole my heart as the emotional core of the film, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen. I loved every second we got of her and especially the grocery store scene. It is the emotional peak of the film and both her and Ezra delivered in spades.
Tumblr media
The score by Benjamin Wallfisch was good and kept the sense of speed and tension alive during the many action sequences and the emotional core alive in the more tender scenes. It was great to once again hear Danny Elfman’s iconic Batman theme and I loved Benjamin’s use of it. I did have a bit of a problem with the pacing in some scenes. The pacing of the film was great as it moves at a brisk pace as expected, but I would've loved for it to slow down for a few more seconds toward the last 20 minutes of the film. You could almost feel the amount of fat that was trimmed off the film in some scenes. Visually the film was stunning and of course most will comment on the CGI in the film. Some of it was really cartoony in the still shots, but it worked the best while in Barry's speed vision. The cameos all are amazing and one in particular made my heart flutter with joy as I know the late filmmaker Jon Schnepp would've approved and loved as well. This was a quick paced and action packed story that featured an emotional core that shines bright over the impressive visuals. There is a fun end credit scene that conitnues that connectivity that Barry has with the rest DCEU. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

S1E1 commentary cuz why tf not
okay who fucking knows if I'll keep up with this but I want to try it.
Season 1 is one of my absolute favorites, I think the storytelling is exceptional and it really set the foundation for the rest of the show. I've rewatched this so many times because I love it to death. I mean, right from the beginning. That intro sticks in people's heads. It's iconic. We see the flash running impossibly fast, and then cut to barry running pathetically slow. It's perfect.
The characterization of Barry Allen is subtle and immediate. We immediately get to see him interact with his coworkers, his superiors, in a way that shows his personality perfectly. He's clumsy, but brilliant enough to be kept around. He's a hard worker when he's not totally distracted. He's also a little bit goofy.
There's also the interaction between Iris and him in the lab where he tells her she looks amazing and for like half a second he has this disappointed look on his face that tells the audience everything they need to know and it's really a testament to Grant Gustins talent that we could get that information about their relationship in like two seconds.
Then of course we get Wellses speech, which I feel needs to commentary. We also get to watch our protagonist, our hero, fail to stop a crime. He gets his ass kicked and it's fun! Because we know what happens next, or most of us do.
It really amazes me how much of the storytelling in this show is dead silent. Barry walking around his lab, alone, listening to the news, looking at his murder mystery board, only for lightning to strike. It's the night that changes his life but it seems so innocuous.
And then we meet Caitlyn/Cisco who I immediately fall in love with because he's playing Lady Gaga for that guy in a coma that's just around?? for months??
And then when Barry's discovering his powers and he just starts running super fast through the city and crashes into some van? Not to mention: there is canonically a random laundry guy who knows who the Flash is. He saw Barry run and he saw his face. Really the most goated character because he doesn't say shit.
Also, there's the
Barry: You seem kinda depressed
Caitlin: because I am
it's something that definitely should make me laugh but I always have a little chuckle at it because it's like Barry, you dumbass.
I really love the music that's playing when Mardon shows Barry his powers.
Joe West ranting about how Henry killed Nora because he's so certain that nobody has any weird magical powers is so painful to watch sometimes, especially when Eddie comes up and confirms Mardon's alive immediately afterward. Yikes.
"You're not a hero, you're just a young man who was struck by lightning" - Wells Season 1
Okay, fuck these police officers who let a child sneak in and see his mother's corpse you're doing a bad job. Also, Joe is like, guess I'm a father of two now (oof)
And then the cut to him talking to the Arrow, because obviously he needs a mentor.
And the "Cool." "Cool." it's so lovely.
also "I am god" "Shut the hell up" IMPECCABLE
convinently knocking eddie out so Joe can learn about Barry's abilities. That was a plot concussion.
"he can do it, I know he can do it" because Cisco has always been Barry's biggest fan. Right from the beginning, he believed in the Flash. Do you think he knew what the flash would someday become?
and everyone smiling in the control room once mardon's dead. beautiful.
joe, with tears in his eyes, apologizing for not believing Barry for all those years, truly breaks my heart. Joe West, dadliest of dads. The conversation between Barry and Henry, too, is completely heartbreaking. Henry saying that Barry needs to stop worrying about him and live. It's beautiful.
"I've made some new friends" YEAH YOU HAVE BARRY.
and of course we end on the obligatory 'harrison wells is not who he seems' scene. this whole season is basically this happening. we also get our first glimpse of THE newspaper. this episode is an incredible start to an incredible season.
I think i'll do one of these on every episode i feel deserves one. I don't know how many that will be., Anyway I'm going to go try baking bread. See yall :)
