So for #introductionfriday Jessica Honegger, founder of @noondaycollection gave us a challenge in the Imperfect Courage Book Tribe to post a picture of ourselves and talk about a body part that we like on Instagram. So here I am. Full body. Not the best position, and I could totally tear this pic apart with negative feedback about the way I look. ⠀ Instead I’m going to tell you the things I love about myself. ⠀ One, my legs. I’ve always been a long-legged girl, and there was a time when grown men would stop me at gas stations and tell me I had great legs. Apparently this is something the (much) older generation thought was ok to comment on to a random stranger. But still, I’m a girl and it made my day each time. ⠀ And two, I’ll say my hair. I’ve always had thick hair, and whether I’ve dyed it a million colors or cut it real short, it’s always been my fallback. And even though it doesn’t always cooperate with me (hello weird genetics and ethnicity I’m not 100% sure about) I’ll take this good head of brown (is that my real color?!?!) any day. ⠀ What about you?!? On one of our New Mexico adventures, I didn’t see many bugs. But I did see this tree growing out of some rocks. These rocks have been in this place forever. But so has this tree. And while the rocks have tried to edge this tree out over the years, it’s still standing. It’s roots have grown down, even for lack of water in a desert, and they’ve grabbed onto whatever they can just to keep standing. Just to keep thriving. Just to keep growing. Don’t neglect to be this tree. You may be on the fringe, on the edge of something, others may be trying to edge you out. Be like this tree. Dig deep down, put your roots down like you mean business. We pulled up some nasty weeds from the garden last week. Some of those roots were quite impressive and took two big hands and two smaller hands to help pull them up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sometimes we've let things take such a deep root into our lives that it is hard to pull out on our own. I'm going to apologize for the amount of @bobgoff I'll be sharing this week, but we all survived the @msrachelhollis overshare and the @jamiethevwm hilarious reposts, so I think we'll prevail. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you don't know who Bob Goff is, can I please slap you and/or send you a podcast!?!?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He says all the things that we were thinking but weren't sure about and admits to way too many, possibly illegal things. He says all these things in the nicest way possible, all while holding a very large, very unattractive mirror up to our face as the american church. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We are falling short people. We are loving in boundaries, and it is KILLING us a society.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Reach out. Jump out of those comfort zones. Sit down next to a homeless person and have a conversation. See the realness and the rawness in people and just plain love them for it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do all the things Jesus told us to do, and do them all in love. At all times. In all circumstances. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Love should have no rules. Jesus didn't come to give us a list of demands.
