General Notes

It’s a world within a cursed book based on Alice in Wonderland, each of the Alice’s exist alongside one another, and while others can die when in the world, and the denizens of the world can die, the Alice’s cannot, at least not permanently. For reasons unknown they regenerate from any attempts to kill them. Each of the Alice's are said to be based on a Fairy tale character from the real world. And it is said that any who find and open the book will be transported to this Land of Alice called ELESIA. All Current Alice's are listed below.

Red Spade

Name: Alman Nation: England Fairy tale Counterpart: Red Riding Hood Powers: “Feral” - He’s able to turn into a wolf, and has the associated strengths of a wolf in and out of his wolf form. Notes: - He has an issue with blood-lust and craves conflict, which makes him dangerous. - He’s currently an outlaw wanted by the King for multiple crimes, mostly attacking people in the woods. - He actually hunts normally for money to sell the furs, he’s obviously very good at it. Relations: Diamond: Feels like the man taunts him being on just the edge of the woods. Club: Complicated. (He’s got a crush.) Hearts: Doesn’t like them, they romp around in his woods too much while able to easily escape him.

Blue Diamond

Name: Marine Nation: Canada Fairy tale Counterpart: Sleeping Beauty Powers: “Siren” - He's able to put people into a sleep like trance when they hear him sing. When in this trance they will do anything he requests.  Notes: - He loves to sing, with and without using his power. - He loves fruit teas and coffee. And he’s always snacking. - His garden outside the castle was a gift from the King. - His crown of flowers is almost never seen removed. Relations: Spade: He finds him and his path through the woods rather bothersome, but there isn’t much he can do about it than keep him away. Club: He looks up to the King for reasons he doesn’t fully understand. Hearts: He’s very very gay for the both of them, and the three spend a lot of time together.

Green Club

Name: King Varis Nation: France Fairytale Counterpart: Ice Queen Powers: “Freeze” - He’s able to freeze things in his vicinity solid. Notes: - His powers are tied to his emotions, which can cause uh- emotional problems for him. He tends to bottle his feelings in order to keep his powers under control, the problem is they eventually explode and he'll freeze everything around him solid. - He's a well liked ruler, but he's also kind of terrifying. - Eternally paranoid about being back-stabbed for reasons he has no context for. Relations: Spade: He finds the man an odd figure, and wish he would just let himself get captured. Diamond: His baby, his pride and joy, he doesn’t know why, but he knew the moment he met Diamond that he was almost like a son. Hearts: They make him nervous because of how popular they are. 

Yellow Hearts

Name: Labera Nation: Romano Fairy tale Counterpart: Gretel Powers: Beckon - The power to summon anything, to himself or to any location if he has been there. He can also summon people to places, including himself, which functions as a teleporting ability.  Notes: - He’s known for being very quippy and witty, he always has something to say and he will make sure he says it. - He likes to pull things out of no where for visual gags and general convenience. - They are rarely seen apart, even if you think they are alone, they probably aren't. Relations: Spade: He loves to tease and bother Spade and any and all opportunity. Diamond: He loves and adores Diamonds very much, it’s very gay. Club: He’s a little nervous around the King, so he’s not seen near him alone. Heart: The warmth in his heart, the joy in his soul. He can’t think of a world where they were separated.

Name: Zir Nation: Germany Fairy tale Counterpart: Hansel Powers: “Command” - The power of heightened physical and mental abilities. He's incredibly smart and also has a psychic-like allure that draws people's attention to him. He's able to convince people to do things for him by just looking at them and giving them a command.  Notes: - He has a slight rivalry with the King because of his ability to sway even his most loyal followers, though he has no interest in such things. - He comes across as quiet and disinterested sometimes, but he usually isn’t even close. - They are rarely seen apart, even if you think they are alone, they probably aren't.  Relations: Spade: He finds him very bothersome and not scary in the slightest. He doesn’t mind his wolf form as much though... Diamond: One of the two loves of his life, he adores them both. Club: He finds the King very nice, but gets confused at how their interactions often turn sour, not realizing that the King finds him intimidating. Heart: The love of his life, they’re bount at the hip and he’d never ask for it any other way.

It's hard to split this song into lines since it's all very fast and jumbled up, but I did my best. Transcribing it went better than it could have, I definitely managed to make out some things I might have not, but it gets increasingly slurred and hard to make out as it goes on.

I left the first word of the last line of the second verse as "Sjálfur" but it might be "Sorrí" or something else.

English translation

Translation notes

Oh boy, a lot of ambiguity here, fun.

In the first line, "Taktu til" generally means to tidy up but can also be more metaphorical. The "Mikið skaltu" is a figure of speech along the lines of "Oh, you're so going to..." but also more literally just means "You'll tidy up a lot", though that's somewhat poetic word order. I think what they're going for is like, "Tidy up if you hate yourself; well you're sure going to need to do some tidying, then." The "yourself" sounds feminine, incidentally ("sjálfa þig" is feminine, "sjálfan þig" is masculine).

"Aftur og aftur saman" is ordered so that at first you hear "again and again" and then the "saman" changes how you parse it so that it's "aftur saman" i.e. together again; slight wordplay nuance to that.

"Að fara að fara að fara að hætta saman aftur" is making use of "að fara að", "to be about to", which is very easily played with to have several of them in a row; when you say it quickly it the "að" kind of disappears so it just sounds more or less like "fara fara fara". Tried to retain that sense a bit with "Just about about to".

The addressing of the letter also sounds in Icelandic like the narrator literally addressed it "A letter for you".

It's explicit in the devil line that he is also taking something himself as well as sharing it, which is not always implicit with "share" in English.

The "change your skin in an instant" is literally "change your skin", the same sort of phrasing used in folk tales about seals taking off their skin and becoming humans, then putting the seal skin on again and returning to the sea as seals. It plays on the literal meaning with "this one doesn't suit you", but is also metaphorically used for changing moods/roles/personalities. There may be a better translation but it's not coming to me at the moment.

That "constrictors" is as in snakes that constrict their prey. I don't feel like I hear that word a lot, other than in the specific species name "boa constrictor", but the Icelandic kyrkislanga (literally "strangling serpent") is common.

Some lines here seem to connect to other songs on the HORROR album, probably intentionally:

Sleikja og stara (lick and stare) is a recurring line in Snákar.

The Devil himself line is reminiscent of Lifandi, which also refers to a dealer as the devil.

"Can't crawl any faster but you're not getting away" invokes Skríða.

There may be others but this is what I caught off the top of my head.

Sandraudiga 3.7% Fuggle Green Hop Red Rye Bitter - Tasting Notes

It's taken quite a few years but I've finally nailed cask out of a bottle! The pour on this is just perfect with wonderful deep malty caramels balanced against sharper Rye spice and the fresh green floral Fuggle notes.

Sandraudiga is a germanic goddess, her name apparently meaning "She who dyes the sand red", you can't get much more red than this Red Rye.

I'll definitely be using this recipe again for next year's green hop, but will probably have a go at modifying it for a straight up bitter with less Rye as well.
