First Period (could be TMI)

So I want to share this story, but I don't want to embarrass the innocent party, so I will tell you.

On a Thursday recently my sister and I took our daughters (ages 2, 8 and 12) to a children's museum.

We all had a great time and went to our planned luncheon place at our planned time.

We all get settles in our booth.

Just as I am about to sit down, my 12 year old daughter says to me "Mom, I need you to get something from the car and I need to talk to you privately." Almost instantly I am filled with anticipation in what she's going to tell me.

We go to the car and she tells me she just got her period... her first period!

You guys/gals.... I cannot even begin to explain.... I had been dreaming and anticipating this day since she was born and I've been preparing myself and thinking about how I would react... would I gag like I did when I learned my sister started her period? Would I cry because omg she's too young!? Would I stiffen up and become severely uncomfortable like my own mom reacted when I was a young woman?

Well, I did none of those... and much to my surprise and my daughter's near embarressment... I was about to burst with pride and happiness and joy.... for now my very own daughter had an understanding of my monthly struggle and anguish and finally all of her recent outbursts and emotions were explained!

I couldn't stop smiling.... I had the literal urge to tell the complete strangers in the restaurant, although I didn't because I'm not that tactless.

First Book of 2017 Done!

The first book I finished this year was a novella called "Chip Crockett's Christmas Carol". I really didn't care for it. Here is my review from Goodreads (Spoiler Alert!): Sarah rated 2 stars- For most of the book I was completely confused if the book was really about a single father and his Autistic son, or about an ex-punk band member living through his past? I am a mother of an Autistic son, and was single from the time he was an infant, till he was five years old. No father around. I do understand how Brendan felt, from time to time, I still feel it, even though my son is now twenty-one. I would also venture to say, that Peter seemed to be more to the mid-functioning Autistic on the spectrum. PDD is usually higher functioning. I think the author lingered too much on Brendan and Tony's relationship, if she wanted to advertise the book as Brendan and Peter's relationship, then she have written more than or equal to Brendan and Tony's relationship. The small tidbits about the adventures with Peter and ASD were not prominent till the end of the story. I felt it was more a secondary story to Tony and his obsession with "The Chip Crockett Show". I was really expecting more about Autism and how Brendan dealt with being an Auti-parent when I read the synopsis. Not to mention I found the book hard to get through. In my opinion it dragged till the very end when "The Show" came on, and Brendan found the spirit of Christmas again.

Not what I thought it was

I hold back the thoughts as I push away the memories, I refuse to think of the past as I don't want to relive the pain. I'm not suppressing what we shared but suppressing what I thought we shared. To be a moment of time and not a moment in time strikes at the very core of the soul. Pretending to care is far worse than actually not caring at all, it shows pity, pity no person wants, it rips the heart from the body and leaves it on the floor. Insecurities, are a bitch. They make you feel things that you don't want, trigged by simple things, sometimes a handicap, and just awful. Sometimes they creep into our thoughts and spread like the plague, slowly then all at once. They make us insane and we do insane things. Worst of all you when the insecurities win we feel even worse and fall down the rabbit hole. Then we get washed full feelings of unworthiness, unwanted, unwelcomed, uninterested, and just lonely. How do we fight insecurities??
