The "Happy Birthday dear Evie Artino" Fic is done!!
And I've had this art finished since SEPTEMBER
And my artstyles changed a bit
I'd redraw Nova if I didn't mind taking even LONGER on this
I can FINALLY share it!
Read the fic at this link!!
Though, because of all the AI scraping risk, I'm gonna be trying to minimize that with this fic by making it only available to registered users. Get an invite here for an account if you don't already have an account
Word count: 17,104
Summary:
It’s been 12 years since Nova’s family was murdered. After the previous year of being a renegade and the aftermath of her uncle’s actions, Nova gets a moment to breathe. To grieve.
Though, it’s a little more than difficult to do that once she’s told her baby sister’s corpse was never buried. Never found.
And now she has to search for the infamous thief, gone rogue, Magpie. As if she didn't have enough problems to deal with.
Let's just get this over with…
Timelapse and Timeline are available under the cut
FLASH WARNING btw
The timelapse exported in a way that makes the beginning going from white to darker go very quickly. The timelapse shouldn't have any other flashes than that beginning part
If you don't want to risk seeing the flash/only want to see the timeline, you can view it here and here
That's the risk you take. Either you resign yourself to keeping things just the way they are, or you put yourself out there knowing that it could end in rejection.
— Nova Artino, Archenemies, book 2 of the Renegades trilogy, by Marissa Meyer

music is an important part of life. it runs through us constantly, and no one can relate to that feeling more than the owner of NOVA RECORDS. the subplot nova records on TAKE MY BREATH follows the music industry of los angeles and the dark side of the business. The redemption arc of this CEO is a captivating tale that delves into the dark underbelly of the music industry, exploring themes of resilience, second chances, and the power of authenticity. Through the eyes of its flawed yet extraordinary characters, the story invites muns to question the rigid standards of success and celebrate the unconventional brilliance that lies within us all.

The team was sitting in the remains of the partially wrecked lobby, looking at all the work that was left to do. There were still large broken pieces of glass from the grand windows and Max’s quarantine scattered across the floor. The large red R over the building hung at a precarious angle from one of the Renegade’s earthquakes. But enough was cleared that the prodigies could get through and to the most important parts of the building. But there was still weeks of clearing to do.
“Well, it’s better than nothing, right?” Oscar shrugged, looking at the work they’d done.
“Right. But it’s not a whole lot, either. We’ll be at this forever if we keep going like this,” Nova grumbled, kicking at a hunk of metal. Adrian nodded, watching Nova throw aside a piece of a pillar.
“We should get some rest. We’re all tired and exhausted and won’t be of any use tomorrow unless we rest. Got it?” Adrian looked to the rest of his team. Ruby yawned and smiled.
“Good. Because I was about to fall asleep right here and now. Who’s up to getting dinner first, though?” Ruby asked, putting her own hand up.
Adrian shook his head. “I dunno. Was thinking about just going home and sleeping…”
Oscar started jumping up and down, waving his hand in front of Ruby’s face. “Me! I want pizza! Me me me!” Ruby blatantly ignored him.
“We can’t have that, Adrian, you wouldn’t eat! Oscar, I know you want to come with me, stop.” Ruby turned to Nova, having already decided that Adrian was going to come whether or not he wanted to.
“Uh, sure. Why not? Not like I’d be going home to catch up on my sleep or anything.”
“Good, then it’s a date. Let’s go already!” To the rest of the group, Ruby seemed oddly excited for such a small, and in the end, insignificant outing.
But they played along, got themselves food and talked. It was uneventful, and it seemed that the Anarchists were laying low for now, as few crimes were being committed in the aftermath of the attack on HQ. Adrian talked about how his dads were with Max 24/7 and he hadn’t even seen them since yesterday morning. Oscar asked Nova about improvements to his cane, maybe some tech, but she turned him down for now. She in turn talked of being kind of concerned for her uncle’s health and his age, and his stubbornness to find help. Ruby mentioned her brother’s shared interest in all the commotion at HQ, but she was mostly quiet.
Oscar watched Ruby and seemed to be admiring her most of the time, but Ruby wouldn’t make eye contact with him for very long. Eventually, they decided to be headed home as it was well past 11 at night and only getting later.
“Need someone to, uh, walk you home?” Oscar gestured at the street as he and Ruby stepped from the restaurant. Adrian and Nova were already walking in the opposite direction, laughing about something.
“I’m a Renegade, aren’t I? I can safely take myself home,” she scoffed.
Oscar nodded. “Yeah, of course you can. You’re the most capable of anyone. But it’s a long walk, and any Renegade loves some good company.” Ruby smiled, glancing at him before quickly looking away.
“That’s also true,” she acknowledged, and reached out and took his hand. Oscar jumped, and then laughed in the awkwardness and tried to calm his nerves. She just took my- she’s- RUBY IS HOLDING MY HAND. His heart thundered and he began to think of all the ways he could possibly screw this up.
“So, uh…” Oscar silently cursed himself for not having anything to say, and they walked in silence for some time. An uncomfortable amount of time. He couldn’t think of anything to say that wouldn’t embarrass himself. “I uh, I was wondering…”
“Yeah? ‘Bout what?” Ruby’s face seemed a little red under the warm streetlights.
“Well, I don’t have any clue how to phrase this less blatantly, so…” Oscar sighed. “Ruby, I really like you. Like, really. I just get so embarrassed, and I mess up around you, all the time. I just, I don’t know, hell, if the world is really going to end soon, I just wanted you to know that I- that I love you.”
Ruby was silent for a second, watching him intensely. Oscar began to stutter an apology, when a scream echoed in the street.
“Oh no,” Ruby said, and dashed off, taking out her grappling hook and running toward an apartment building. “Smokescreen, c’mon!” Oscar took off after her, huffing and trying to imagine how to make up for this situation. I messed up so bad.
It was soon obvious that a room in the building was on fire, and not a single alarm was going off. Ruby began to shout to alert the residents, but her voice was drowned out by the shrieks and yells and people flooding from the building. Oscar shoved past her and right into the building, running up flight after flight of stairs. Finally, he reached the flaming room and slammed into the door. The door groaned, but didn’t break. He could hear wails inside.
“Here, both at once,” came Ruby’s voice from over his shoulder. He nodded, and counted down on his fingers. They both crashed into the room, coughing with the smoke. Oscar grimly remembered how he got his powers.
“We’re here! Over here! Renegades!” Oscar pulled a little girl and boy, seemingly twins, from the wreckage. Ruby pulled a man up from the floor, covering his mouth with a little piece of torn cloth from her shirt. Oscar followed suit for the twins, and started to lead them down the stairs.
Ruby called for backup while supporting the man as they descended the stairs. They got them out of the building, and headed back to see if they could get a couple of missing pets out before the building went down. They drenched their cloths with water and carefully headed in.
“Hello? Anyone else in here?” The building creaked, but Ruby seemed unaware of the danger. She’s so beautiful, so strong. Look at her, just saving lives. What a woman, Oscar thought. Entering a room, they carefully lowered a cat and dog using her grappling hook, but found no one else.
“Guess that’s it,” Oscar said loudly, leaning out the window as the cat was safely taken into its owner’s arms. Renegades had started to show up, and he thought he saw Adrian’s glasses glinting in the crowd.
“Guess so. Let’s get out.” Ruby reeled her hook back in. But with a huge crash, the section of wall in front of the door came crashing down, and a large piece of drywall struck Otto before he could get out of the way. “Oscar!”
“I’m-” he coughed, feeling the pressure on his chest. It hurt, so much. “I’m okay. Help…”
Ruby hurried over and put all her strength into lifting the drywall from his chest, as he shoved himself out from below it. “Thank you so much.”
“Of course. C’mon, seems like we’ll take the window out,” she said, her words muffled by the cloth. She coughed violently a few times. The heat was beginning to get unbearable.
Ruby used her hook as a climbing rope, carefully lowering the two of them down the building. Oscar clung to her, his whole body aching. Mmm. Her hair smells good.
When they touched ground, Oscar tried to stagger to his feet, and almost fell. A hand caught him, securely around his back. He coughed, and tried to help stand up. But he was met with Ruby’s nose surprisingly close to his. She smiled. She smelled like smoke and lavender, and Oscar grinned.
“You know, despite your dumb luck and food-related humor, you’re a hell of a guy. I love you, too, Oscar,” Ruby said, and pressed a kiss to his lips, firm and reassuring. Oscar wrapped his arms around her, the feeling in his chest swelling. She loves me too? What? Now?
Oscar looked at her bright eyes for a moment before kissing her again. The heat of the building felt like a comforting warmth in the chill night, and they held each other, under the starless, dark sky in the middle of the night.
“Well, finally,” came Adrian’s voice, and Nova snorted, looking at him with a look much like the one Oscar was giving Ruby. The four of them laughed, tried to clean themselves up, and stood watching the residents as the prodigy healers showed up.
“Guess I waited long enough,” Oscar said, and Ruby rolled her eyes. She rubbed a smudge of ash off his nose with her thumb.
“Well, better late than never,” she said, a wonderfully perfect smile on her face.
Oh, I most certainly do love her, Oscar sighed.
@universalloneliness This was your request, and I hope you like it! So sorry for the wait, but all the same, tell me what you think! Also, to anyone, feel free to send in requests!
Aight, I lowkey forgot I was going to write an AU for Renagades two months ago but @nallacam reminded me this morning while we were studying for our finals. I can’t even find my old post about it so I’m just making a new one. Basically it was the Renagades characters in Miraculous (Nightmare is ladybug, Sentinel is Chat Noir, ect.) but the reason I never wrote it is because I could never decide where to start the story. Basically please comment ideas because I have none but I don’t want to study for my chemistry final. Ya feel?
