Upon entering the bustling lounge, Coraleye is surrounded by a gathering of prestigious guests, each handpicked by the potential president-elect herself. Many are close relatives of Jill Smith, and thus also of Tycho, which Coraleye finds comforting.

She soon spots Tycho's cousin, Nova Curious, with her boyfriend, Lewis, dancing and laughing with a lively group of friends. Nova gleefully introduced Coraleye to each of them.

Nova: Coraleye, this is my best friend, Katydid. K, this is Coraleye. You're gonna love her. She'd be my new bestie if it weren't for you.

[Mutual laughter]

Katydid: Hey girlie! Oh my mod, you look INCREDIBLE! Here I am, blinged out in fifteen pounds of jewels like I robbed a damn jewelry store, and I still don't outshine you! Nova: Don't mind her, she's always so self-deprecating, despite me constantly reminding her she's literally perfect in every way.

Coraleye: Well, you both look beautiful too. I love your dress!

Katydid: Oh, this damn thing? [Scoffs] Girl, let me tell you. I ordered it online, aiming for Golden Bejeweled Goddess, like in the pictures, but when I got it in the mail, it's giving Ugly Pee-Yellow!

Coraleye: Well I happen to prefer it this way. Yellow is a very special color to me. [Smiles] Katydid: Yeah? [Glances down] Well maybe it's not so bad after all. You got me changing my mind over here! But it's still not attracting cute strangers like yours is... I think you might have an admirer, girl! [Winks and subtly gestures behind Coraleye]

Tycho: Excuse me, miss? Coraleye: Huh? Oh! Hello...

Tycho: Pardon the interruption, but I just had to tell you. When you walked in, you seemed to have taken my breath away, and I don't take kindly to thieves. I'm going to need that back.

Lewis, excited to see Tycho, greets him with a hearty tap on the shoulder. Tycho politely but swiftly acknowledges Lewis with a smile, his attention still on Coraleye as he twirls her around.

Coraleye: [Giggles] You are so corny. Tycho: Something like that...

Nova notices the confusion on Katydid's face as she tries to interpret the interaction in front of her. Nova: Don't worry, he's not actually a stranger. That's my cousin, Tycho. He's attempting to do a bit.

Tycho: Mind if I steal you away for a moment? I've missed you so much. Coraleye: I don't know, I... I don't really take kindly to thieves. Tycho: I don't expect you to be kind tonight.

Coraleye: Well then... take me away.

Think i've seen some posts wondering as to why Barney's (and most other ex-black mesa employees') reactions are somewhat nonchalant when Gordon finally pops up, but I think it's important to note that this is a world where the Combine repeatedly shuffles people from country to country several times a year, possibly as an attempt to prevent an organized resistance from ever forming. And all things considered, it's a wonder a resistance movement did form. It'd require either all members eventually getting transferred to City 17 and going off the radar, or the more likely option - some of them had to make the trek toward the city by themselves (which, iirc, is exactly what happened with Kleiner, with Eli losing his leg to a bullsquid while assisting him). I'd imagine because of that, new Black Mesa survivors popping up in order to join the movement has become common enough that it's not that big a surprise anymore. Also I think the last thing the person who's gone through the most hellish experience out of all of the Black Mesa survivors would want is for everyone to immediately start freaking the fuck out at the moment of their arrival. Idk. I think all of them silently agreeing to give Gordon a warm and calm welcome makes a lot of sense. This just gave me the mental image of Barney taking off his mask and immediately breaking down crying instead of talking about the beer and nevermind that would've been GOLD it wouild've been so fucking funny

#and then immediately an entire metrocop raid forces their way into the interrogation room because of Barney's shrieks of grief #half life #half life 2 #barney calhoun #rambling #the combine #this isn't to say i'm against the concept of more emotional moments regarding Gordon's disappearance #I just found it funny when people use Barney's nonchalant demeanor as an argument like what was he meant to do.#was he meant to like scream about it while the cops are listening. and then he calls Kleiner and he also starts screaming #and it ends up getting both Barney and Gordon shipped off to Nova Prospekt on the spot??????? Do y'all think object heads have a peculiar vision? Well I certainly do!

If DJSS is actually a supernova then assumption probably brings with it the idea they were a star, and being a star where it sends light in every direction and vision is directly correlated to light, what if that means omnidirectional vision?

#dj subatomic supernova #djss #no straight roads #nsr #fanart #a lot of notes i have in the image itself but i'll talk about them in the tags #i like to headcanon nova in youth was an o-class main sequence star aka big blue star that is bound to supernova #that shit is BRIGHT like 800000ish times our sun bright so even at a portable head size it's like a literal eyesore #kid to adult nova probably had to wear a helmet for others safety (an inconvenience to be sure)#but that would inherently condition them to have a more eye-based narrowed vision with a more frontal view of the world #which was helped a long way by being blinded by their own luminosity at the back and sides of that helmet #even if their vision was kinda dimmed and muted thanks to the visor being as shaded as it was #which is why when nova's a- well- supernova the interior of their hoodie not only is white but emits light #practically speaking it would be an inconvenience as the dj of a lowlit club but what if it was a habit that was a layover from being a sta #and to that: vision as a star and vision as a supernova are like two completely different logics #if a star is one celestial object that can view everything in every direction- a hot cloud of space dust is just trillions of staring eyes #compound eye having ass #from 20 or so years being blinded by their own light it does mean that not EVERYTHING has sight #let alone the 'used to be internal' contents of nova's head that kinda swirl in no particular direction #but whenever those blind spots happen to swirl their way up to the glass nova may get spotty vision #probably more a visual snow rather than any cataracts just because of the shear number of space dust particles #which means poor nova the dark gets littered with static and stargazing has a little more stars than they were used to #though it might also be because they aren't perpetually wearing sunglasses anymore but then again shades are different than visual snow #i have no idea where i learnt this (i think it was a humans are space orcs thing) that spacewalks can be utterly TERRIFYING #so i don't know if this was a nasa (or other space organisation documented) observation or general fear of space moment #but if folk are terrified with their binocular vision to float around in an ever endless void of stars and systems- how would nova feel?#i mean sure they utterly revel in space (they're an astrophysicist and ex-professor for it for god's sake) but they're now IN space #and it was just after bunkbed junction crashed their concert and took apparently their helmet and headphones as a trophy #bestie having omnidirectional vision in space is one thing it's another to literally have the place your vision comes from spread out!#i mean being the object that is their head it's not going to run completely away from them

Sometimes I forget how bad Sam's head injuries got. Kid is losing whole conversations and massive chunks of his memory, yet functions perfectly. Christ, he flew all the way from Arizona to Alaska and couldn't remember the fact that his family had moved into an apartment recently.

#the fight w hulk and the issues following that were the worst his brain damage got #in issue one he had a pretty bad one but the helmet healed him. which it proceeded to never do again #but it has healing capabilities anyway #not to mention the white spots left in his vision by the nova helmets #speaking as someone with memory issues (not brain damage related... Probably) this can be very scary #i worry for him #i also want this to be dived into more #whether in canon or fic idk #sam alexander #nova

I want a Harrow Nova book so bad mostly because I want a Gideon Nonagesimus book where Gideon suddenly has a new father, one that is so similar yet different. A father that killed to further his goals but hides all that behind a calm and teacher like vibe. She grew up in a place where fathers are cold, unfeeling, willing to beat their (real)daughters bloody. Would she be able to see John better because of that? Or would she think John is infinitely better than the Ninth?

All the while there is something missing and a voice in the back of her head pissed off beyond belief because she was finally going to do something with her life but Gideon refused to eat her.
