It’s the end of the year, and Inverted Fate just wrapped up NULL, the first part of its final arc. However, that’s not the end of the new content! We’ve just put out a new trailer, as shown in UNDEREVENT 2022. But that’s not all! As an early Christmas present, we’re going to give you a small teaser of what’s to come in RIFT, as well as give some other updates. This post will contain spoilers, so if you are not yet caught up, you can find the comic here! (Note: Null_6 and Null_7 will be added to the website soon- Nisha has been busy).

You got your first glimpse at the Rift at the end of our new trailer, but as a little treat, here are a few rooms. :) Some of these are edited slightly to hide spoilers, so what you see may not be fully indicative of what the rooms look like in the videos.

And here is another room. Lots of spoiler censors in this one! Whatever could be on the screens?

This was one of the first rooms I made while testing the tileset. That’s a big door, isn’t it?

These are just a small glimpse of the main area of the Rift, but there are many secrets that lie deeper in the rift that you’ll just have to wait to see. A lot of custom art assets are being made to give this story’s finale a truly spectacular feel!

We do not yet have an estimate for when the hiatus will end, but X is nearing the end of the third Rift chapter. Up to the fourth chapter is scripted and map assets are complete. We’re waiting on some overworld character sprites before we can get started on that.

Everything after that is still in preproduction, but we’re hoping to continue chipping away in hopes of returning by our anniversary in March. We’ll keep you updated once we’re more sure of a release date!

On the fangame front, Philip is hard at work doing polishes and bugfixes on multiple IF battles! The Spamton fight will be releasing a patch update that fixes some minor bugs and adds a fun little secret if you press two specific keys in a specific order. The Alphys fight is undergoing rebalancing and pacing improvements as well as fixing some old bugs. The blue mode physics are also being revamped! Remasters for Asgore and Battle of the Ages are in varying states of production, and we hope to resume work on the Dohj fight at some point in the near future. Philip has a lot of ideas of other segments he’d like to turn playable, so who knows what else the future holds?

Beyond that, we have some music replacements on the way, along with a TON of secret pages we hope to add when the website updates again. More on that once Nisha and I have time to hash stuff out!

bully: good morning playtime!

playtime: morning bully! here for your pre lunch krabby patty?

bully: im getting 2 today. one for me, and one for my friend.

playtime: oo, have i met this friend?

*they both laugh*

playtime: enjoy, bully's tummy!

(a giant tartar sauce jar falls from the sky)

playtime: hey null_6? i thought we got our tartar sauce delivery on thursday.

Null_6: tartar-

(the tartar sauce lands on the ground spraying playtime and null_6)

-sauce?

Mel: BULLSEYE! *laughs evilly*

playtime: MEL!

null_6: so its a food fight he wants, eh?

Mel: welcome to Air Mel. please keep your seats back and tray tables up as we're now approaching our final destination.

playtime: okay, bully, load the potatoes!

bully (looking through binoculars): i think we have a few minutes before he gets here. (playtime flips the binoculars the right way) GAH HES RIGHT ON TOP OF US!!!

(scene cuts to the potatoes getting chopped into fries before flying down towards a guy)

guy: hey! its raining fries!

Mel: It's gonna take a lot more than potatoes to bring this baby down! (potatoes take damage to the plane) or maybe not...

(scene cuts to show customers inside the Krusty Krab looking at the explosion from the plane before cheering)

Playtime: wait a minute bully, look! HES GOT A TANK!!!!!

Mel: well, 6, you're certainly in a pickle now! (chuckles)

(the tank perfectly aims toward playtime and bully before they gasp and, in slow-motion, jump out of the way just in time)

guy: Hey, it's raining pickles! [chuckles] Now, it's raining... (the tank lands on him) ...tanks...

Mel: you're welcome!

Bully: finland...

(playtime and bully dialing up telephone) playtime: your orders, sir!

Null: ill have a krabby patty with extra ketchup, extra mustard, and hold the mayo.

playtime: wrong channel! (dials up again) YOUR orders, sir!

null_6: extra ketchup, extra mustard. HOLD THE MAYO!

playtime: yes, ma'am! [holds a big ketchup bottle followed by small ketchup and mustard bottles] Extra ketchup, extra mustard.

bully: (out of breath) hold the mayo!

null_6: Unleash the condiments.

playtime: With relish. [screams while squirting the condiments repeatedly toward the tank before they run out, making farting noises] Excuse me! [She and bully laugh before playtime gets another set of condiments and does the same as before]

null: [through a window] Hello? Hello?! guess y'all dont want my money..

Null_6: money!? (gives him the order) thank you come again.

bully: [gasps for breath]I can't hold the mayo any longer! [throws the jar right towards the tank]

mel: Mayo?! Well, it's gonna take a lot more than mayo to stop- [the tank crashes into the mayo before it explodes and splashes everything, including Playtime and Bully, then it rumbles]

playtime: now what?!

[the tank reassembles itself into a giant robot before Mel laughs evilly]

Bully: Uhh... I just remembered! I don't work for Null_6. [gives his helmet to Playtime, then runs off, leaving Playtime alone, then Playtime drops Bully's helmet and runs towards the Krusty Krab, as Null_6 notices]

Robot! Robot! Robot! Giant robot! Robot! Robot! [runs into Null_6's'office] Null_6! Mel's here, and he's got a giant robot!

Null_6: Quick, bar the door!

Playtime: got it!

[suddenly, the robot crashes through stomping on Playtime before Playtime gasps and looks at Mel laughing evilly]

Mel: I'll take one secret formula... [null_6 gasps] ...to go. [as the robot's hand comes directly toward the safe, Null_6 screams before the robot stops and Mel notices it out of fuel] Oh, Shit! I'm out of gas?! [Playtime and Null_6 both laugh] Well, I'm not through yet. I've got something that will make you hand over that formula: something you can't resist. [takes out his wallet before Null_6 gasps]

Null_6: Money!

Mel: Yes. [notices the wallet empty] That's...that's...that's impossible! [gets caught inside the wallet before coming out of it] Well, it was full of money just last week. Then I bought that airplane, and built that tank-

Null_6: Sounds to me like someone's just a wee bit…broke!

Mel: [sighs] Well, 6, I guess you've won. I've spent every penny I've ever made trying to put you out of business... [takes out a penny from his pocket] ...except this one: my last penny. [starts to cry] Besides, what could I do with one measly cent, anyway?

Null_6: You could give it to me. [with her eyes closed] Just a suggestion.

Mel: [closes his eyes and leans while holding the penny and talking] Here. [throws the last penny to Null_6] Take it! [Null_6 happily catches the penny and puts it in her safe] You've taken everything else. Why not?! [cries]

[scene cuts to Null_6 and Playtime walking towards the exit of wrecked Krusty Krab while Null_6 is holding Mel in her hands and talking]

null_6: Well, mel, like a reheated Krabby Patty, you've been foiled again! [drops mel and he falls on the floor and sighs]

Playtime: I guess this means that the secret formula is safe forever. Right, Null_6?

Null_6: [taps Playtime on her head] It sure does.  [Mel stands up and null_6 pushs him toward the exit] Why don't you scurry along? [everyone in the Krusty Krab, expect playtime laughs out loud as mel is leaving the Krusty Krab while crying] Thanks for coming! Have a nice day!
