“The Magician’s Daughters,” mixed media, 1985, Charles Cajori. Cajori was a noted second generation Abstract Expressionist painter, co-founder of the New York Studio School and an intimate part of the Downtown Scene in the 50s and 60s. He employed the vocabulary of Abstract Expressionism in his work to deconstruct the figure and rearrange it through spatial experimentation, as seen here. In this he can best be compared to De Kooning. Here's the current state of my living room/studio after spending the last 12 days making ~30 paintings through @ny_studioschool painting marathon with Graham Nickson. There is paint absolutely _everywhere_, and my brain feels like congealed linseed oil but it feels so good, and I'm quite sad to have to go back to doing anything other than painting 10+ hours a day, for now. Reflectioning on this piece when one of my most recent interviewees says "I would rather my image be anybody...so that its not me but anybody who cares about the environment, cares about pollution, cares about litter.. wouldn't that be cool?"
