super complicated. I try to say every time someone asks that is a really complex thing built to keep a) sandro alive and b) sandro SANE. It was really out of necessity that Sandro had to forgive the Krang for what he did to his family.

If Sandro just waited it out in the prison dimension alone, he faced the real possibility of dying alone or really losing touch with himself. He's a sociable little turtle; he didn't want to be changed by this mistake.

(and it definitely WAS a mistake — he had no intention of locking himself in the prison dimension. that was an accident.)

When he gets back home, he does miss the krang. but he's also aware of just how badly things could have gone. It's a HUGE slice of cognitive dissonance no one but Donnie really understands.
