✨️ Eren mostly worked ironbark or salvaged and repurposed metal with the clan’s portable forge (it was on a cart that could attach to the forgemaster’s aravel and be towed behind it, and had been enchanted by the Keeper to be easier to move) but every now and then when the clan traders would venture into human cities he would send a few pieces with them specifically to trade for some new materials. Sometimes just new iron or steel, silverite if they could get it, but preferably something he’d never worked with before. He’d then figure out on his own what properties it had, what it’s strengths and weaknesses were, and how best to use it. He did talk shop with some human smiths from time to time to learn from them, if they would entertain the idea, but the best of his work came from techniques he developed himself using the collective knowledge he’d amassed from his and other clans and any human who would talk to him, and first-hand research. His drive to put that sort of effort into his craft set him apart as a singularly talented smith and did a lot towards his goal of being known for his own merits rather than being, you know. The Inquisitor’s brother.

✨️ Silver grows orchids, because he appreciates that an environment where one is well cared for and their needs are met will see them grow healthy and become something beautiful. It’s considered a great honor to be gifted one of his plants, even greater than to be given his tesserae (a special coin that represents a personal invitation to his services as a courtesan); it means he thinks incredibly highly of someone to trust them with its care. Plus its easy to weed out (pun definitely intended) new tesserati who think they’re hot shit for getting one of his coins (people trade them like actual currency so sometimes people come in without being the one he actually gave it to) by having someone else be like “cool, but I heard he gave So-and-So one of his flowers.” He’s only given his orchids to about three or four people in his twelve years as a courtesan.

✨️ People tell stories of being visited by like…the Andrastian equivalent of a guardian angel, more or less, appearing out of thin air and helping out while talking complete nonsense and then just disappearing as strangely as it arrived, but most of the time it’s actually just Sala’s goofy ass, happening to have glanced out into the waking world while taking a stroll across Thedas through the Fade, noticing someone needing help (usually healing, but he’s also been known to calm/sufficiently bewilder a crying child or just…like…give someone directions), and just popping off his spirit suit and stepping out of seemingly nowhere, doing whatever to help while chattering away to the spirits who see for him, wishing them well, and popping the spirit suit right back on, back into the Fade, continuing on his way and unintentionally becoming Thedas’s most welcome cryptid.

Dragon Age: *Disgusted Noise*

Just LOOK at this exquisite and beautiful and perfect commission I got from @sunshinemage of my precious Emma Sparrow!!! It is, in fact, so perfect, I couldn’t help but write something to go along with it. :)

In wartime, just about anyone would find a moment’s peace in a field of wildflowers, and Emma was no exception.  Where most found solace in the brightly colored blooms swaying in a gentle breeze, carrying the flowers’ scent along with it, hers came in the form of what she could hold perfectly still.  

For instance, a butterfly.

Sala first showed her to catch the butterflies with magic, when her new mind proved overwhelming and she needed elsewhere to focus, and at the time the idea was regarded as purely academic. Of course one could hold such a delicate creature still mid-flight, if one were capable of the kind of focus and precise manipulation of force surrounding the insect from all directions, continuously changing to counteract its attempts to free itself, let alone safely release it so as to not simply tear the poor thing apart instead. No one actually could. Rather, as Sala's ideas often began, no one could yet.

Footsteps, light for the size of the man taking them but deliberate, falling purposefully and flattening the tall grass behind her. She would have heard Lux’s voice well before his feet, and turned from the butterflies to greet him. Eren would wait, if she wanted to catch another one first.

Carefully, she let her magic and focus relax, and shifted a little to one side. Eren could have sat down anyway, as there was a vast field around them, but he understood better than anyone the value of being offered those few inches next to her.

He stayed silent, watching the dynamic color of wings floating nearer and nearer until she brought them to rest in the air, waiting to speak until they started to move again. Eren spoke a great deal more in places like this, and always with a sense of…relief, almost. As though he’d held onto his words for ages before he was finally able to say them.

“Must be easy to kill it.”

“It is,” she replied, once focus allowed. The hand she'd rested on her knee turned supine, and the corners of her mouth twitched outward a little with the gentle pressure of his around it.

"It's impressive that you don't, then."

The breeze picked up for a moment; both of them adjusted their breath to take it in, and their posture to sit a little closer. As the butterflies drifted away until they were able to overcome the wind, so too did her mind drift to memory. To a face not entirely there anymore, far less than it should be, but a lingering presence, and a name.

“Sala insisted I thank them all, for helping me learn when butterflies surely had better things to do.”

A soft rush of air from his nose. “Did he hit you with a stick if you didn’t?”

Emma looked up at him, brow creased. The smile she received in return hinted at just enough mischief behind it that she knew it was safe to smile back.

“The hahren’aan would hit the back of my head with her stick if I tried to work new leathers or eat without offering thanks first. She said she did it because if she didn’t, spirits would come while I was trying to work and turn me into leather and stew, and I wouldn’t like that one bit, now, would I?”

Emma raised an eyebrow. Clearly, his elder had lied to him, as well as struck him. Yet, he smiled when he said it, like the story amused him. Comforted him, even.

“This is…a pleasant memory for you?”

He nodded. “Now.”

She looked at him for a moment, then to their hands as he interlaced his fingers with hers. Memories were different that way, she supposed. Even as she could recall her emotional state at the time, that would not necessarily reflect her emotional state at the time she recalled it. Unnecessarily complex, but not without purpose.

“Did you believe her?”

Eren shook his head, leaning in closer as if to divulge some great secret.

“I waited until she wouldn’t see.”

*Of course* he did. She mimicked his smile, pleased greatly by the ease with which he did it. Resting her head against his arm, she returned to her task, catching the butterflies one by one as they danced above their heads. The rhythm soothed them into silence for a while, instead simply existing there together with the peace they had found in that place, and with each other.

“Not a bad lesson, to pause and think of what someone else had to give up for you to have what you want,” Eren finally remarked, then brushed curls away from her forehead to place a gentle kiss there. The truth of that realization struck her in a way she had not anticipated it would. Sala taught her to do this to establish control, to keep herself and others safe, or so she’d believed. Now that she thought about it, though, she had trouble thinking of why else he would have told her to do that. The one thing she’d thought, for all these years, Sala was not able to adequately teach her, he’d been teaching her surreptitiously all along.

How very like him.

Eren smiled, and moved away from her so he could stand. He would have work to do, as did she. She would follow him soon.

“Maybe your Sala’s method is better, though.”

“You learned.”

“So did you. Without being hit with a stick.”

She smiled gently after him as he left, and quickly returned to her work, bringing the wings of the nearest butterfly slowly to a halt. She held it there for a moment, examining the black and yellow lines, echoes of the past times she’d done this very thing lingering around her, and she found she was more at ease with them now. As she was with all things she understood better than she had before.

With another gentle smile, she whispered her thanks, and released the butterfly back into the wind.

“No.  I want you to walk with me.”

“Very well.  It is no trouble.”

“No.  Not if it’s just ‘no trouble’.  It should be because you want to.  You deserve to do what you want, not what’s ‘no trouble’ or what someone else wants you to want, and I deserve to be where my company is wanted, not...tolerated.  Take my hand as much for you as for me, or don’t do it at all.”

“I would enjoy walking with you, Eren.  That is why it is no trouble.”

Many thanks to the divine @sunshinemage​ for making sure I got absolutely nothing done this weekend because I was too busy staring at this ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS art of my og otp, Eren Lavellan and Emma Sparrow.  The Expressions!!!  The background!!!!  The tenderness and hope and comfort of this whole scene!!!!!! :’))))))  It so perfectly encapsulates the things they inspire in each other, Eren feeling comfortable enough to want to relax his boundaries with her and Emma learning she can establish boundaries and have them respected.  They’re so very deliberately together and it gives me big feels every time I think about it :’)

So in order to complete my “new canon” run of the Dragon Age games, I have, of course, restarted DAI with Tasalin after importing the correct worldstate. To keep myself from getting bored, I’ve been thinking about it as less from Tas’s perspective and more from Eren’s watching him, which though it can lead to screenshots like this:

Tasalin: Jack and Coke.

Eren: Water, usually, but he likes a good old fashioned plain old everyday Beer(TM) every now and then.

Emma: Vodka, neat, with an egg in it.

Lux: Bourbon on the rocks, which he thinks will make him look cool but he inevitably hates, and ends up either ready to go home or sipping on Sprite and grenadine instead.

Rexus: Any brown liquor, straight from the bottle. Any. Brown. Liquor.

Silver: He’s got a long rotation he can go through for whatever he deems appropriate, but it usually ends up being mojitos, some kind of martini, or mint juleps.

Sala: has smuggled in a bottle of homemade liquor from a recipe he’s never tried before that he hasn’t bothered tasting yet.

Túlio: Depends on who’s around; whatever he thinks he needs to drink to interest whoever he wants to interest. If he’s alone? Vodka and cranberry juice.
