dolly,,,, tell me everything about your plans for the glee school musicals!

Kbee, have I ever told you that you’re my favourite person ever? (And just gonna tag @luucypevensie, @ginger-grimm, @dancingsunflowers-ocs, @manyfandomocs, @ginevrastilinski-ocs, and @aceyanaheim as well!)

So, one of the things that’s always bugged me about Glee was the fact that most high schools have at least a winter and spring musical (my high school only had one a year, actually, but we started casting and rehearsals later in the year), so, inspired by Charlie a bit, I’ve decided to fix that in my Glee fics and have McKinley High do its own two musicals a school year!

(A note to make: I haven’t quite figured out the casting for these shows beyond my OCs yet, and though Rocky Horror and West Side Story both still happen like in canon, Rocky Horror still gets cancelled and they don’t have another winter musical that year.)

Most of the planning is under the cut for length!

Let Me Be Your Star (Ivy’s fic):

Season one winter musical: Cabaret (the club decides to keep it going even after Sue cancels her fake production, and Ivy and Rachel compete for the role of Sally Bowles; Will ultimately winds up making them share it and alternate shows).

Season one spring musical: Beauty and the Beast (Ivy gets cast as a genderbent version of Gaston while Rachel gets the role of Belle).

Season two winter musical: Rocky Horror (Ivy is originally cast as Magenta before it gets cancelled).

Season two spring musical: Heathers (Ivy is originally cast as Veronica, but she winds up having a panic attack while rehearsing “Dead Girl Walking” with Finn, which causes her to quit and leads to her finally publicly coming out as ace).

Season three winter musical: West Side Story (Ivy doesn’t originally get cast as Maria at all, but steps in to share the role with Rachel when Mercedes quits).

Season three spring musical: Moulin Rouge! (Ivy gets cast as Satine and finally gets to have a leading role across from Sam, who gets cast as Christian).

Cardigan (Audrey, Parker, Bruno, and Leo’s fic; musicals aren’t focused on until season two because Parker is the only one at McKinley in season one and they only work backstage):

Season two winter musical: Rocky Horror (Audrey, Leo, and Bruno are all cast as background Transylvanians and Parker is working backstage before it gets cancelled).

Season two spring musical: Hairspray (Audrey gets cast as Tracy and worries a lot about it only having been because she’s fat and she didn’t really earn it, Parker works behind the scenes, Leo gets cast as a background Corny Collins dancer, and Bruno gets cast as Seaweed).

Season three winter musical: West Side Story (Audrey and Bruno get cast in background roles, Parker works backstage, and Leo gets cast as Mouthpiece).

Season three spring musical: High School Musical: The Musical (Leo gets cast as Ryan to Santana’s Sharpay, Audrey gets cast as Gabriella, Bruno gets cast as Zeke, and Parker works backstage).

Always Sing (Mara and Bailey’s fic):

Season one winter musical: The Sound of Music (Bailey isn’t in Lima yet, Mara gets cast as one of the younger von Trapp girls).

Season one spring musical: Waitress (Bailey isn’t in Lima yet, Mara gets cast as Dawn).

Season two winter musical: Rocky Horror (they’re both cast as background Transylvanians before it gets cancelled).

Season two spring musical: Legally Blonde (Bailey gets cast as Elle, Mara gets cast as one of the Delta Nus).

Season three winter musical: West Side Story (they both get cast as background girls).

Season three spring musical: 9 to 5 (Bailey gets cast as Doralee, Mara gets cast as Violet).

Chasing Rainbows (Esme’s fic):

Season one winter musical: The Little Mermaid (Esme and Rachel compete for the role of Ariel, and Will winds up making them share it and alternate shows).

Season one spring musical: Mamma Mia! (Esme gets cast as Sophie).

Season two winter musical: Rocky Horror (Esme is cast as a background Transylvanian before it gets cancelled).

Season two spring musical: Hadestown (Esme gets cast as a genderbent Orpheus, after fighting with Will to even let her audition for it).

Season three winter musical: West Side Story (Esme initially quits alongside Mercedes when they’re told they have to share the role of Maria with Rachel, but eventually Will ends up giving the role solely to Esme).

Season three spring musical: Wicked (Esme gets cast as Glinda, across from Mercedes’s Elphaba).

Season one winter musical: Newsies (Linus gets cast as Davey).

Season one spring musical: Sweeney Todd (Linus gets cast as Anthony).

Season two winter musical: Rocky Horror (Linus is cast as a background Transylvanian and also briefly as Rocky before the show gets cancelled).

Season two spring musical: Oklahoma! (Linus gets cast as Ado Annie’s father).

Season three winter musical: West Side Story (Linus gets cast as Mouthpiece).

Here's something to consider: if Ivy and Thea were both actual characters on Glee, what would their relationship be like? Would they have been friends before joining New Directions, and if not, would they become friends after? Would they ever do a duet (I kind hope so, because I think Taylor and Auli'i's voices would blend amazingly), and if so, what song? Would they support each other's relationships and offer each other advice, or do you think one of them would think the other could do better?

You don't have to answer any of these, of course, just some things to consider.

Okay, so I definitely think the two of them would deeply respect one another in the beginning. Thea would admire Ivy’s outspoken feminism while Ivy would love Thea’s ability to be straightforward w/o being mean. That would be the foundation for their friendship, which grows when they both realize they write their own songs and can’t STAND Will Schuester.

Now, when Glee Club begins, Ivy respects that Thea refuses to join because she doesn’t really like to sing in front of people she doesn’t know and Mr. Schue. However, she is surprised that Thea decides to join only as a band member because Finn Hudson begged her to join. That causes a little friction between them due to Thea not telling her she and Finn were friends, but Ivy would move on because their friendship is more important.

I could see Ivy being the only one able to convince Thea to sing a song with her in the beginning, and it would honestly be so cool if they sung a song by the Chicks like Goodbye Earl. They…would…KILL it!

In regards to relationships, Thea just wants Ivy to be happy, so she would support her in any relationship unless if they are being dicks. As for Ivy, I think after she gets over that crush she has on Finn, she would absolutely be Team Dorinn (their ship name). Ivy can see how Thea makes Finn better and vice versa. Plus, she also just wants her friend to be happy as well.

Now, my number one song from this year was “Loser, Baby” from the show Hazbin Hotel, and it actually does being in mind for me my baby Ivy Kekoa! I’ve had the image in my head for the longest time of her sharing this duet with Quinn shortly after Quinn is kicked off the Cheerios for being pregnant in season one, and that being the start of their unlikely friendship, and so that scene plays in my head every time I listen to the song.

Their berserk button: Any kind of misogyny at all. My girl is a staunch feminist, so any kind of sexist behaviour will be met with swearing in Hawaiian at best and a sock to the eye at worst.

Why their name was chosen: Her parents were at a loss for what to call her for the longest time when her mother was pregnant, until one day while on a walk in the park, her mother saw some ivy crawling up the sides of a nearby building and realized it would be a lovely name for a girl.

Their favorite 2020s song: “Taste” by Sabrina Carpenter.

Their biggest fear: Never achieving her Broadway dreams and all her hard work going to waste as a result.

One turn-on of theirs: Competence! My girl is certainly known for having an appreciation for someone who knows their own skills.

Their go-to sleepover activities: Dancing around to music until the wee hours and eating a massive amount of junk food.

What candles they'd get at Bath & Bodyworks: Anything with a sharper scent, like cinnamon or some other spice.

A moment where they reached their breaking point: After the hockey player she’d dated to try and get over Sam broke up with her after she came out to him as asexual, saying that he could never be with someone who wouldn’t put out for him. After everything she’d been through with Sam, being rejected yet again by the person she’d been counting on to help her leave him behind, and for something she couldn’t change, was a devastating blow that led to her having a panic attack on the floor of the school bathroom while Mercedes and Tina comforted her.

Whether they're organized or slobby: Oh, she’s very organized, she can’t stand disorderliness.

Their favorite feature about themselves: Her skill as a performer.

❝ Ivy was well aware that she wasn't the only victim of bullying at McKinley High, but she was also well aware that, unlike most of her fellow victims, she'd never exactly done much to try to blend in. An outspoken feminist who frequently swore in Hawaiian, dressed in a style that was entirely unusual for such a small town as Lima, Ohio, and spent most of her time writing songs and dreaming of being on the Broadway stage, she was prime fodder for cutting words from McKinley's famous Cheerios and facefulls of slushies from the knuckle-dragging jocks, but she always did her best to try and ignore all that. Someday, she knew, she'd get out of this small-minded little town, land a starring role on the Great White Way, and then none of those future gas station attendants would ever have the right to sneer at her again.

And then one day, she'd spied a sign-up sheet that would forever alter her life. After being persuaded by her best friend Mercedes to join Mr. Schuester's new glee club, Ivy had been determined to finally prove to McKinley High's assholes that she was destined for greater things than any of them - and, hopefully, show up her longtime rival Rachel Berry along the way. Instead, she'd gained a few friends, her relationship with Rachel had mellowed if it hadn't exactly turned friendly, and she found she no longer cared half as much about proving herself.

But that was sophomore year. Now a junior, Ivy, along with the rest of the New Directions, is right back to being at the bottom of McKinley's food chain, ridiculed and slushied as often as she's looked at. But there is something different about this year. This year, McKinley has a new student, Sam Evans, who, in addition to being infuriatingly good-looking and sweet, can sing like the stupid blond cherub he is. And, perhaps most surprisingly, he seems interested in Ivy.

Ivy has always sworn, to herself and anybody who would listen, that she'll never date a jock or cheerleader as long as she lives. But Sam really is sweet... and maybe the two of them just might be able to make a perfect harmony. ❞
