dolly,,,, tell me everything about your plans for the glee school musicals!

Kbee, have I ever told you that you’re my favourite person ever? (And just gonna tag @luucypevensie, @ginger-grimm, @dancingsunflowers-ocs, @manyfandomocs, @ginevrastilinski-ocs, and @aceyanaheim as well!)

So, one of the things that’s always bugged me about Glee was the fact that most high schools have at least a winter and spring musical (my high school only had one a year, actually, but we started casting and rehearsals later in the year), so, inspired by Charlie a bit, I’ve decided to fix that in my Glee fics and have McKinley High do its own two musicals a school year!

(A note to make: I haven’t quite figured out the casting for these shows beyond my OCs yet, and though Rocky Horror and West Side Story both still happen like in canon, Rocky Horror still gets cancelled and they don’t have another winter musical that year.)

Most of the planning is under the cut for length!

Let Me Be Your Star (Ivy’s fic):

Season one winter musical: Cabaret (the club decides to keep it going even after Sue cancels her fake production, and Ivy and Rachel compete for the role of Sally Bowles; Will ultimately winds up making them share it and alternate shows).

Season one spring musical: Beauty and the Beast (Ivy gets cast as a genderbent version of Gaston while Rachel gets the role of Belle).

Season two winter musical: Rocky Horror (Ivy is originally cast as Magenta before it gets cancelled).

Season two spring musical: Heathers (Ivy is originally cast as Veronica, but she winds up having a panic attack while rehearsing “Dead Girl Walking” with Finn, which causes her to quit and leads to her finally publicly coming out as ace).

Season three winter musical: West Side Story (Ivy doesn’t originally get cast as Maria at all, but steps in to share the role with Rachel when Mercedes quits).

Season three spring musical: Moulin Rouge! (Ivy gets cast as Satine and finally gets to have a leading role across from Sam, who gets cast as Christian).

Cardigan (Audrey, Parker, Bruno, and Leo’s fic; musicals aren’t focused on until season two because Parker is the only one at McKinley in season one and they only work backstage):

Season two winter musical: Rocky Horror (Audrey, Leo, and Bruno are all cast as background Transylvanians and Parker is working backstage before it gets cancelled).

Season two spring musical: Hairspray (Audrey gets cast as Tracy and worries a lot about it only having been because she’s fat and she didn’t really earn it, Parker works behind the scenes, Leo gets cast as a background Corny Collins dancer, and Bruno gets cast as Seaweed).

Season three winter musical: West Side Story (Audrey and Bruno get cast in background roles, Parker works backstage, and Leo gets cast as Mouthpiece).

Season three spring musical: High School Musical: The Musical (Leo gets cast as Ryan to Santana’s Sharpay, Audrey gets cast as Gabriella, Bruno gets cast as Zeke, and Parker works backstage).

Always Sing (Mara and Bailey’s fic):

Season one winter musical: The Sound of Music (Bailey isn’t in Lima yet, Mara gets cast as one of the younger von Trapp girls).

Season one spring musical: Waitress (Bailey isn’t in Lima yet, Mara gets cast as Dawn).

Season two winter musical: Rocky Horror (they’re both cast as background Transylvanians before it gets cancelled).

Season two spring musical: Legally Blonde (Bailey gets cast as Elle, Mara gets cast as one of the Delta Nus).

Season three winter musical: West Side Story (they both get cast as background girls).

𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗚𝗟𝗘𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗧 𝗕𝗨𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗘𝗦

I know, I know, here I go again making more new OCs when there’s still a million I haven’t properly introduced, but these got into my head and I couldn’t resist! I do intend to make proper intro posts for them, but for now feel free to send any questions you’d like!!

Esme Gomez, she/her, poly Sam/Artie ship, Rachel Zegler FC. Another Broadway hopeful who’s been in dancing and singing lessons and competitions with Rachel since they were both babies, and been the bane of Rachel’s existence because she’s equally talented and has always refused to stoop to petty insults and sabotage the way Rachel is. Has also been friends with Brittany for years and sort-of friends with the Unholy Trinity because of this, and so has had a layer of protection from being slushied or picked on outside of some shoves in the hallways. Has been part of the glee club since Sandy was the leader and kind of dreads the new leadership because she worries about the drama Rachel will bring, but thankfully finds that it also brings new friends and connections. The daughter of two horror movie fanatics (one of whom is actually a former Broadway icon), and has a fierce love for all things beautiful but creepy (her whole aesthetic is kind of a mix of The Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas). Very passionate about her dreams and very ambitious, but also compassionate and friendly and a lot more laid-back than Rachel, even if she’s never afraid to hold a grudge or make it clear when she doesn’t like someone. Definitely becomes a Broadway star in the future, making it not just on her mother’s name but her own amazing talent.

Linus Schuester, he/him, Finn ship, Kit Connor FC. Will’s son with April Rhodes, the result of a one-night stand that they had when April was doing her second term as a senior and Will was a sophomore (Will lied to Emma when he said that he never really knew April), and April left their son with Will and skipped town pretty much immediately after she was let out of the hospital after giving birth. Will named him after the character of Lina Lamont from Singin’ in the Rain, and he grew up in an incredibly tense home with Terri, who agreed to raise him because he was Will’s but resents him because he’s not hers and Will’s (which he doesn’t know for a bit, he thinks Terri’s his mother until Will brings April back to town), and Will, who does love him but doesn’t quite know how to interact with him because he’s living proof that he and Terri haven’t had the perfect high school sweethearts love story. Really loves singing and dancing and acting, of course, and does want to succeed in show business where Will couldn’t - sees an opportunity when Will takes over the glee club, but of course his dream immediately crumbles when Will starts going after Finn and pushing him into being the New Directions’ male lead. Has actually had an unfortunate crush on Finn for years, even when he never stopped his jock friends from slushying Linus and pushing him around, but it turns to resentment when they start competing over the male lead in glee club and they wind up having a very long and complex love story. Sweet and shy and awkward, has a lot of insecurities from growing up the way he did, but also struggles with bitterness and repressed anger towards his parents, especially when he finds out that Terri and Will have been lying to him his whole life. Unexpectedly becomes besties with Puck through being in glee club, and Puck actually nearly beats Finn up some of the times he hurts Linus throughout their journey to being a couple.

Their favourite childhood show: He was definitely a big Arthur kid.

What they would get at the gas station/7-11: A bag of Doritos, usually the Sweet Chili Heat flavour, and a bottle of water.

What they wanted to be as a child: He’s wanted to be on Broadway since he was pretty young, but there was a little while where he wanted to be a doctor.

Their favourite flower: He really loves lilies!

What animals they always wanted/still want to see first at the zoo: Any kind of birds that the zoo might have; he really loves birds.

Their guilty pleasure reality show: Love Island - he knows how stupid it is, but it doesn’t stop him from being absolutely obsessed and, eventually, getting Finn hooked on it too.

The first DVD/CD they ever owned: A DVD of Hello, Dolly! that Will gave him for his birthday, and a compilation CD of old folk songs.

One thing/moment they're really proud of: Finally getting to tell April exactly how he feels about her, and how much she’s been hurting him his whole life by not even wanting to be in it. The whole speech he gave had been building inside of him for so fucking long at that point, so finally getting to actually give it and get everything off his chest was deeply cathartic.

Their go-to YouTube video genre: He really loves that specific genre of “oddly satisfying” video compilations.

Something odd they like: The sound of a needle scratching on a record in between songs.

Who they would pick to play them in a movie about their life: Linus would absolutely not want a movie made about his life, but if he didn’t have a choice in the matter and was at least allowed to pick who he wanted playing him, he’d probably go with Austin Abrams.

What their favourite colour was in kindergarten (because everyone had one in kindergarten): His favourite colour at that age was yellow.

What the first lie they ever told was: That he was okay with Terri not coming to his kindergarten graduation when in favour of picking up an extra shift at Sheets n’ Things.

What D&D class they would be if they played: I definitely think he’d be a paladin, he has the right vibes for it.

If they came with a warning sign, what it would be: Warning: has parental issues the likes of which have never been seen before.

If they were to go viral online, what it would be for: Probably for something related to his Broadway career in the future, or to performing with New Directions while he’s in high school.

A song lyric you associate with them: I understand, I’m a liability from “Liability” by Lorde.

What their stress response would be: fight, flight, or freeze?: He likes to think it would be fight, but if he’s really honest with himself, and if past experience is anything to go by, it’s definitely freeze.

A little thing that makes them happy: Taking a nap with the sun shining on him like a cat.

Their first impression of their partner(s) (if they have any): He’s known Finn since they were only kids, of course, but really, the first thing he ever thought about Finn when they first saw each other in preschool was how weird he and his friend were for trying to eat Play-Dough.

Esme auditions with “That’s Rich” from Newsies! It’s a fun, bouncy song that she can sing easily, and she also adds a small dance routine in with it to impress Will further.

Linus auditions with “Maria” from West Side Story! It’s his own attempt to gain Will’s approval, since he knows how much his dad loves West Side Story, but of course Will claps him on the back and tells him what a good job he did and then goes right into blackmailing Finn to join because he wants a more confident male lead.

If they were given the chance to change their first name, what they would change it to: Linus would definitely want to change his first name, given that he’s literally named after his dad’s favourite movie. He would probably want to change it to something like Ben or Cecil.

Their favourite scent in shampoo or body wash: He really loves fruit scents, like green apple and strawberry.

How they like their coffee/tea, if they drink either: Linus doesn’t like tea, but he does like his coffee with only a splash of milk and about a half a teaspoon of sugar.

What nonsensical profession (wizard, unicorn, etc.) they wanted to have as a kid: He really just wanted to be Gene Kelly, specifically in Singin’ in the Rain, not realizing that that wasn’t possible.

Their biggest insecurity: Being reminded that neither of his parents actually wanted him - as much as Will does love him and tries to be a better dad later on - and that he’s almost always been a second thought to them.

The most common way they get injured: He bites his nails a lot, and often will get hangnails or accidentally bite the skin around his nails in the process.

Does their personality change when they’re alone versus when they’re with people? How so?: He’s pretty equally quiet and a bit sarcastic when he’s around people versus when he’s alone, but when he’s alone he’s a lot more willing to be vulnerable and let himself break down.

Their romantic orientation, sexual orientation, and gender identity: Homoromantic, homosexual, and a cisgender male who uses he/him pronouns.

Are they naturally more obedient or defiant towards authority?: He’s naturally more obedient, but as time goes on, he gets more comfortable with calling out authority figures when they aren’t being fair.

Their most painful memory: When he first found out that April was his mom, not Terri. Realizing that not only had he been lied to his whole life, and not only that his birth mom hadn’t even wanted him, but that he’d gone through a lifetime of mistreatment from Terri only to have her not even be his flesh and blood, was enough to completely wreck him for a while and send him spiralling.

Who their Greek godly parent would be: Apollo, the god of the arts, prophecy, the sun, and healing.

A moment they consider the best of their life: When he landed his first big role on Broadway, as Anthony in Sweeney Todd. It was the culmination of all the hard work he’d put in over the years and everything he’d been through to get to this point, and Finn being right there to kiss him in congratulations when he got the news, after everything they’d been through to get together, just made it all the sweeter.

A song you associate with their main romantic relationship (if they have one): “Someone To You” by BANNERS (for him and Finn).

If they were to summon a genie, what their three wishes would be: To be able to sing for as long as he wants without suffering any damage; to let Kurt talk to his mom one last time; and to free the genie.

If they’re more solider, poet, or king: Definitely poet!

Their favourite thing to eat for breakfast: Usually some toast (preferably whole wheat) with peanut butter and banana slices, with coffee to drink.

What their middle name is, and how it was chosen: His middle name is Victor, named after Will’s father (who doesn’t have a first name in canon, so I’ve just named him after his actor).

A moment they consider to be the worst of their life: When he first found out that Terri wasn’t really his mom. Although it did explain a lot of her neglect and emotional distance over the years, it was still an absolutely horrific experience to realize he’d been lied to his whole life by the people that were supposed to care about him the most.

A topic they could talk about for hours: The history of movie musicals and the making of some of the most iconic ones.

Are they quick to anger or not?: He isn’t quick to anger, no, but it’s rather a scary sight when his temper does break out.

Three of their favourite hobbies: Performing, watching classic musicals, and hanging out with Kurt.

Do they know how to use any weapons? If so, what kinds?: Linus absolutely has no knowledge of weapons, including his own fists. My boy cannot fight worth beans.

Their top three favourite holidays: Christmas, Halloween, and Easter (only for the food).

The most common negative thought they have about themself: That nobody in his life really wants him around, because how could they when his own mother abandoned him without a second thought, the woman he thought of as his mother doesn’t really even like him, and his father only occasionally puts effort into being his father?

If they were to transform into any kind of mythical/supernatural creature, what they would become: I think he’d definitely be a siren, given his musical talents!

Do they have a sweet tooth? What is their favourite kind of sweet treat?: Linus definitely has a sweet tooth! He loves any combination of chocolate and peanut butter, and he’s mildly addicted to Reese’s cups.

Whether they’re an introvert, extrovert, or ambivert: Decidedly an introvert, although he gets more extroverted as time goes on.

Two of their most prominent positive traits: He’s incredibly loyal to the people he cares about, and very selfless.

Two of their most prominent negative traits: He can often be too selfless, putting others ahead of himself too often, and his self-esteem is dreadfully low.

A piece of trivia about them that you haven’t shared yet: There’s an incident shortly after the drunken assembly disaster that leads to him punching Will in the face, running off to the Hudson-Hummel house in the middle of the night, and drunkenly sobbing in Finn’s arms. (I won’t fully explain it right now, but at some point.)

Whether they prefer coffee, tea, or hot chocolate: Definitely coffee - he doesn’t like tea at all - but he’s also always open to some hot chocolate after coming in from the cold on a snowy day!

What their zodiac sign is and whether they fit the traits associated with it: Linus is a Cancer, and I think it fits him pretty well - he’s loyal and caring, but can also be clingy, insecure, and resentful.

What emotion is the hardest for them to deal with: Insecurity, particularly revolving around his whole “family” situation; he’s been feeling it regularly for a very long time, but he’s never really gotten good at dealing with it.

How physically affectionate they are: When he has someone he actually can be affectionate with, Linus definitely becomes pretty clingy. He can often be found walking with his arm through Kurt’s, or, once he and Finn get together, holding the other boy’s hand every chance he gets.

A movie they could watch every day for the rest of their life: Singin’ in the Rain. As much as he hates being named after Will’s obsession with it, watching that movie with his dad are some of the few purely happy memories Linus has of him, and so he’s always down for a viewing of it.

Are they neurodivergent in any way (autism, ADHD, mental illness, etc.)? If so, what do they have?: Linus has general anxiety as well as depression, both of which he goes undiagnosed with for a long time until Burt and Carole finally say “fuck it” to Will’s parental incompetence and get him diagnosed and on the proper medication.

If they want any kids, and how many they’d want if they do: Linus doesn’t initially want any kids, purely out of fear that he’ll mess his children up like Will and Terri messed him up, but after being with Finn for a while and working through those issues, he comes to realize that he would like one or two kids of his own.

How they lost their first tooth: He’d woken up that day with the tooth loose enough to fall out, but he was too scared to do it himself and Terri refused to pull it out for him when he asked (Will had already left for work), so he wound up having to shyly ask one of the workers at his daycare if she would pull it out for him.

What their walk-on song would be: “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day.

If they prefer company or time alone when they’re upset: Linus will say he wants to be alone whenever he’s upset, but really he does want company, someone to hold him and keep him from spiralling too far.
