I snapped this pic of the intro to the Korean drama Duel. I remember liking this drama - mainly because it was one of the first sci fi kdramas I had ever seen and I have a soft spot for mad scientist plot lines.

Upon second viewing of Duel, I confess to liking it much less. The father ran around screaming or crying his daughter’s name constantly… nearly every episode… if it were a drinking game we would all die of alcohol poisoning before episode three. I wanted a bit more from the genetics experiments and the evil billionaire and his crazed daughter. It had a lot of potential. But the “twins” and the reporters still kill it in every scene.

I enjoyed it, even though I’m not near as crazy about it now as I was when it first came out. A solid B- for me… and only because there have been better sci fi since this one playing around with mad science. L.U.C.A. or The Witch: Part 1 or even Awaken.

That said, the intro sequence to Duel is still really cool. And sexy and surreal.

Se me ocurrio una loca reunion de universos la Charlie canon mirando toda la historia de BUTTERFLY EFFECT al lado de la Charlie de esa historia pero no alterando su propio conocimiento solo para comedia, tambien se junta el Adam del canon con el otro Adam y Luicfer canon con ese Lucifer Angel y la Lilith canon con la angel Lilith.

Charlie canon: ahhh entonces eres resultado de una pequeña viola.. digo sexo sin consentimiento? eh

Charlie BUTTERFLY EFFECT: si.. lo tuyo fue con amor? no? un poco ironico ya que naciste en el infierno, asi que fuiste criada por tus padres yo solo con Adam rey del infierno

Charlie canon: Entonces quieres redimir pero a los humanos? no es mal plan sabias que si es posible redimir pecadores? el final de mi serie sr pentious si llego al cielo...

Which is my favorite Kdrama network?

When I'm bored I like to list and categorize things. Today I've decided to discover, statistically, which Korean drama network is my favorite based on shows I've watched.

Including both shows I've completed and shows I've dropped bc in this case, the shows I don't like are relevant.

Using my ratings from MyDramaList :) which means however I felt the first time I finished watching a show, basically. Not including networks where I've only watched one show (e.g., Disney+, Wavve, Channel A).

I can't believe this network produced My Country the New Age when everything else I've watched by them has been a flop for me. Beyond Evil came the closest to breaking the curse but even then. Itaewon Class is one of my least favorite shows I've ever tried to watch; I've forgotten most of the details now but a bad taste lingers.

Idk what to say about this one. RHGH is pretty damn good but I think I would probs like it less watching it now than I did in 2019, newish to kdramas and ready to love anything. But it's a fave regardless, and Extraordinary You and The Veil are both fairly watchable. A serviceable network.

The takeaways:

I should probably watch more KBS. On my to-watch list, that translates to Youth of May, the Bridal Mask, Hwarang, the Bloody Heart, and Orange Marmalade. So mostly historical dramas, which is a pity bc apparently I also like their thrillers.

Really, though, my to-watch list at this point has a ton of SBS and MBC on it for some reason, at least with shows that have already come out. According to my stats so far, my odds are pretty mixed on liking them or not.

Somehow, one feels, I will actually end up watching more TVN instead... but that has yet to materialize. (except the one kdrama I'm currently watching is a TVN drama. so.)

Did I really learn anything? No. and on that note, good night.

Not a request- but I have got a question! Which Characters are your favourite Whumpees? Like, your top 3.

Oh man, I mostly use tumblr on mobile and it doesn't give me a notification when I have asks waiting. I have no idea how long it's been since I got this ask, I'm so sorry!

Top 3 Whumpees? Oh that's hard, but the ones that come to mind first in no particular order:

1. Jang Tae San (Lee Joon Go) from the drama Two Weeks. I somewhat frequently pull that drama up just to rewatch the whumpy scenes.

2. Yang Se Jong's characters Lee Sung Hoon and Lee Sung Joon in Duel...I don't know that I've ever watched the drama all the way through but I sure as hell have watched the whumpy scenes multiple times. If that drama ever gets put on Viki or Netflix where I can watch it more easily, you can bet I'll watch it.

I can't decide on the other favorite whumpee but ironically the two characters I'm stuck on are played by the same actors lol

3a. Seo Hwi played by Yang Se Jong in My Country is just amazing. I also like Woo Do Hwan in that drama and his whump is equally good but something about Yang Se Jong's portrayal just hits right.

3b. Do Hyun Soo/Baek Hee Sung played by Lee Joon Gi in Flower of Evil...I can't even begin to explain how much I enjoyed that drama and the variety of whump Lee Joon Gi's character was put through.

All four dramas were just

Lee Sunghoon crying hours

Did a Duel watch/rewatch with a friend over the last couple of weeks and we finished today and. God. It is still one of the most eviscerating experiences even an entire year after watching for the first time.

Lee Sunghoon is--no contest--the most tragic, beautiful mess of a man I have ever imprinted on and Lee Sungjoon is so best boy want to pinch his cheeks doing his best I could scream and Yang Sejong is an absolute master at his craft for delivering multiple stellar performances that you easily forget are from the same actor.
