I know this is a bit late, but let's say the Piston Cup had their own throwback week/race like they do at Darlington and for this year they decided to celebrate a different decade of Piston Cup racing each day? Who do you think would favor what decade?
It depends based on which era we’re talking about.
The Cars 1 crew preferred traditional throwback - we’re talking like 1980′s and 70′s and prior. They took it very, very seriously and always paid respects to the greats of the past.
The Cars 3 group (pre-next gens) was considerably more lax. There was one year where the throwback was more or less the modern era, and they all swapped paintjobs with each other from races of significance. Ever seen the Vitolene logo in Rusteze orange and red? Or Dinoco in OctaneGain purple? The marketers, uh, soon realized the errors of their ways when their products were redesigned for the month or so surrounding the race to advertise the mixups. The color re-coordination was not consumer friendly. Don’t drink drugs or apply drinks medicinally, y’all.
The next gens’ throwbacks envelop all eras of racing, mostly. There’s schemes from the 50′s all the way up to the previous generation. It’s actually sort of interesting, because it shows who values what era of the sport. Cruz painted up like Doc? Cool, cool. Bubba dressed up as Greg Candyman? Alright. Jackson decked out to the max in a McQueen scheme? You guessed it.

Moe Marcusi
Moe Marcusi, the hauler for Team OctaneGain, an uncle to 8, a self-declared mystery connoisseur, and an all-around underappreciated background character from Cars 3, came to be after the following conversation with @whipplefilter and @stickersandsally :
Tumblr media
Assorted headcanons (in order of creation):
He makes the best blueberry pancakes.
He loves jazz. No-one is allowed to change the radio to anything other than jazz.
He reads mystery novels but only likes the cheesy dollar store stuff.
When Moe finally got a smartphone, Bobby introduced him to Kindle and he lost his mind because “Bobby, look at this, there’s so many books”
Moe and Mack enjoy making up and exchanging pulp mystery. They’ve even collaborated on occasion. (speaking of collaboration, this part was suggested by @missfox116 and @whipplefilter , who in turn were collaborating with @the-kings-tail-fin on “Mack’s pulp mystery career”)
Moe has a huge family. He’s the second of 6 children and has 3 nephews and 4 nieces whom he loves dearly. He routinely invites them to races and they’re all best friends with Bobby.
Bobby is also an “honorary nephew.” This isn’t a title he takes lightly.
He’s in a committed relationship with another hauler he met in a truck stop. They’ve been together for 11 years, but he’s too shy to pop the question. Bobby loves suggesting ideas, ranging from “leisurely drive on the beach” to “laser it in the moon Moe!”. Moe has seriously considered every suggestion at least once, even moon lasers, and keeps a notebook of them. Even if he doesn’t use them with his girlfriend, he still might use them in his next mystery novel…
Once Moe heard some guys were picking on Bobby, so he cornered them and started quoting mystery novels at them until they backed off. To this day, the guys have no idea why Bobby was nearly choking with laughter.
When they first met, Bobby was super shy and nervous. Moe kinda helped him get out of his shell by introducing him to McQueen (who was totally chill and friendly) and Cal (who had also just started and was equally terrified).
Moe also sometimes assists with the pranks that McQueen, Cal, and Bobby pull on each other nonstop. He’s the mastermind behind the “cupcake” gag.
Moe can karate chop a watermelon in half. No one knows how or why.
He’s very good at close-up magic. Every now and then he’ll do a trick for Bobby and his friends.
He loves his purple and orange color scheme. Not just because it’s associated with his “honorary nephew,” but because he genuinely enjoys the way they look on him.

What do our friends Lightning, Bobby, Cal, and Brick do these days?
Lightning bounces between his racing obligations in whatever series he’s found now, and enjoying genuine downtime in Radiator Springs. Of course, he’s quite often busy at the Piston Cup tracks, driving around like the legend he is in various roles.
When Bobby finally emerged from whatever backwater lagoon he’d gone missing into to mourn his career, he didn’t know quite what to do. Something different, for sure. Something he’d enjoy. Something that would bring others joy. He is now the proud owner of a cupcake shop that does not serve any OctaneGain related products whatsoever.
Cal’s being continuously held hostage at Dinoco performing crew chief duties and other racing related things. He doesn’t mind, though. He gets more vacation time now than he used to, and he’s still around the cars and the sport he loves. He and Cruz are the dream team no one saw coming.
Brick now has the time to groom and trim all the plants in his tiny plant greenhouse himself. While his groundskeeper would have liked to have kept his job, Brick had the overwhelming urge to care for everything himself. Every plant has a name, often names of individuals he knows. When the plants start to look sad, he calls the respective friend up to check on them.

Do you think Bobby and Danny get along?
Awww, man, the feels! Stab me right in the heart. Here’s what I think about this.
It’s likely that Bobby and Danny never meet. As such, they can’t form opinions on the other based off of personal experience, and thus it is impossible to gauge whether or not they get along.
They never meet because Bobby is just done. We might not get any closure with him being fired in Cars 3, but we do know a few things. We know that Bobby was tight with his friends. We know that he was abruptly fired and replaced in the middle of a season. We know that he didn’t bother to tell McQueen (or Cal, probably) what happened, and he pretty much straight up ghosted them for the entirety of the movie. We can infer from this that Bobby took the situation quite poorly. For all we know he could have went and pulled a Doc Hudson and tried to leave everything behind. OctaneGain made him who he is, but they also ripped him to pieces and took everything he had. There’s no forgiving that.
Danny likely knows about his predecessor, and knows how good of a racer Bobby had been. These youngins tend to look up to the previous generation of racers, so I would bet Danny idolized Bobby in some way at some point. Sure, Danny acts like a tough guy when McQueen encounters him, but who knows - that could have just been nerves playing up, or the face he wants to present to the crowd. Something tells me Danny would like to meet Bobby.
But I don’t think Bobby’s coming back. He’s upset, abandoned. He doesn’t have any reason to dislike Danny, he doesn’t even know the kid. But he has every reason to be upset with OctaneGain, and Danny is OctaneGain’s new face. It would be painful for Bobby to return and face what once was his. And maybe he’s got a bit of misplaced resentment toward Danny - but it’s not his fault. That’s just how things are.

I’m gonna combine these two, if you lovely people don’t mind!
“I don’t need help. I’m fine.”
“Cruz, you are leaning on a lamp post for support. You’re not okay.”
“He’s very good at moral support, Storm, you should pay attention.”
Jackson sighed. He didn’t know why he was still hanging around. He hadn’t won. He hadn’t enjoyed Cruz’s victory party. Well, that’s what he told himself.
Yet he’d stayed.
“Come on, Cruz, let me just drive with you back to your trailer and make sure - “
“I’m fine. It’s just right over there.”
It was not, in fact, right over there. They were in the middle of Los Angeles, or at least that’s what it felt like. Jackson’s street smarts were sharper than anyone realized, and he could feel the area wasn’t necessarily safe. The track was at least five miles away. She wouldn’t make it on her own.
“I’m not giving you a choice. Come on,” Jackson pressured. “It’s for your own good.”
“Don’t tell me what to do, Storm.”
“You’ll thank me in the morning.”
“I won’t.”
“Whatever. Let’s go.”
“Ey, señorita Cruz! Ready to lose today?” Danny asked as they paced the track together, enjoying his time in the pole position.
“Oh, I wouldn’t be so confident, Swervez,” Cruz chided back at him from P2. “You know it’s not often the pole sitter wins the race.”
“Ah, but I’m not usually on the pole, so it’s different today! You know I do well in clean air.”
Cruz came back with something snappy, but Jackson tuned it out. Starting P3 was a minor annoyance in comparison to looking at the OctaneGain racer’s fake taillights. They were too long, too horizontal, and didn’t mesh well with the curvature of his body.
My taillights are better. Mine are based on a luxury -
Why am I comparing myself to this guy. I’m better. It’s no contest.
But why is she still talking with him.
Jackson focused on those taillights in front of him and fantasized about them careening off the pavement. Killing two birds with one stone didn’t sound so bad. Danny was one of his top competitors on the track, and the only car that stood a chance at winning Cruz over. One little wreck might remove him from the scene for a while, just long enough...
The green flag dropped.
Danny shot away with Cruz close behind him.
Jackson gritted his teeth as the speed didn’t come to him right away.
“Lookin’ a little tense there, try and smooth it out,” Reverham called out over the radio.
Jackson took a breath and focused on those taillights.
Be smooth. Smooth and fast. Like... a shark! Dun dun dun dun dun dundundun.
“See? Told you it was possible,” Danny chided.
“Oh whatever, it’s an intermediate track, anyone can win with enough good luck and consistent speed,” Cruz shrugged him off.
“Victory party’s gonna be loco, Cruz. You should come hang out!”
“But will there be tamales? Probably not.”
“Uh, I mean, this is Texas, we could find some - “
“But not your mama’s tamales.”
“Well...”
Cruz winked at him and drove back to her team. He was going to have to try a little harder than that. She knew what he was up to.
Danny sat there in stunned silence. How much would it cost to bring his mama with him across the country? He started doing the calculations in his head.
“Hey! Swervez!”
Jackson cruised by with a sickeningly smooth voice and a glint in his eyes.
“Congrats on the win, bud. Too bad the girl doesn’t come with it.”
Before Danny could react, Storm was gone. What was that he said?
Cruz helped the team pack up to the best of her ability - mostly sitting around, offering enthusiasm wherever it was needed. Off in the distance, Swervez’s party was taking off in Victory Lane. Cruz briefly considered going despite her plans for the next morning. She began to roll forward, but then caught herself when she saw Jackson still hovering around.
Sally saw Cruz’s hesitation and drove over.
“Those boys at it again?” she asked.
“Ugh, yeah,” Cruz answered. “And I don’t want to be mean to them, but I’m just not - “
“Do it. Tell them how you feel. You’re a strong independent racecar that don’t need no man. At least until you’re ready.”
Cruz nodded. “Yes, ma’am!”

I saw some of these videos where celebrities read 'mean tweets' about them. What if Lightning, Cal, Bobby, and the next-gens (Cruz and Jackson included) did that?
Lightning: “’Lightning McQueen giving up a @PistonCup on purpose? More like Lightning McChicken.’ That… doesn’t even make sense. What’s wrong with McChickens? I love those.”
Cal: “’@CalWeathers, a prime example of nepotism gone wrong.’ Wait, what? What does that even mean?”  “It means you’re not as good as your relatives.”  “Well, yeah, what else is new.”
Bobby: “’Why would @OctaneGain give a sponsorship to a racer with clearly no gainz?’ (laughs) I guess I shouldn’t have skipped carb day - oh wait, my Piston Cup here says otherwise.”
Cruz: “’If some chick can come in off the streets with a ghetto paint job and win the @Florida500 then the Piston Cup series isn’t real racing anymore...’ Aww, hey, you know what? No one’s making you watch, pal.”
Jackson: “’Jackson Storm sounds more like a stage name for an award-winning porn star than a racecar.’ Hmm, you know, I’ve never thought about that. You think it would work?”

What's the dumbest/weirdest colour the rs citizens/legends/racers have ever been painted?
If I leave someone out here, it’s because they’ve maintained their paint their entire lives, much to Ramone’s discontent.
Sheriff - he was manufactured with a crappy, off-white paint job that just made him look ill all the time. He hated it and was more than happy to don police colors.
Fillmore - just because it was called sunshine yellow doesn’t mean it looked like it. It looked more like a faded road sign.
Lizzie - she painted herself white for her wedding, but in the dirty desert, it just made her look filthy every time she went anywhere.
Ramone - the first time he ever mixed his own paint it turned a weird brown color. He threw some sparkle in it to try and save it, but ‘twas for naught.
River - he was manufactured an ugly beige color, and no one took him seriously until he switched to something much, much darker. The beige made him a target for old car jokes.
Bobby - When OctaneGain switched from mostly orange to mostly purple, they didn’t do so elegantly. One season they did half orange, half purple, and he felt like a pill capsule the whole time.
Strip - Tex thought it would be a good idea to advertise ALL of Dinoco’s products on him one year, and much to Strip’s protest, came up with a terrible design that included all three major products and all three colors. Side by side, red, green, and blue don’t mesh well.

What are your headcanons on the 'food' in Carsverse, like oil as one example? Are there flavors or fuel and such out there? Equivalents of things like coffee? I'm dying to know!
Basically any sort of fluid a car needs to run is a sort of ‘food’ for them. Whatever internal mechanics they have that allow them to drink can differentiate between the different substances and ensure they don’t go to the wrong place (i.e. you don’t want brake fluid in an engine block, etc).
Flavors depend on brand and weight. Like how we have Valvoline, Mobil, Pennzoil, etc., they have different oil brands at different weights. Their taste is mostly attuned to the type of oil they need to optimally function.
There are definitely supplements and stuff (like OctaneGain is a vitamin something or other?) that’s probably just a fuel additive. They can add this and stuff like it into gasoline to make mixed drinks.
Speaking of, they can also drink gasoline, instead of getting it pumped - it’s just that most cars’ fuel tanks are so big it’s more economical to get it pumped directly into them.
Fuels with high octane ratings are a lot like alcohol for cars that weren’t built to run specifically at that level.
They can also consume small amounts of what looks like “human food” that gets processed into something usable (see Cars 2). It’s not quite the same as the food we have, it’s more of a petroleum product that just looks the same.

Short fic on Cal meeting Lightning for the first time? Knowing this was the car that helped his Uncle finish his last race. I think he'd be super happy to meet him! :)
Indeed, Anon! Time to unleash the cinnamon roll into the world so he can meet the tomato boy.
“Come on, Cal.” Tex encouraged the kid. “You need to get in there and socialize. No one’s gonna know who y’are if you don’t go meet ‘em”
“No, Tex.” Cal argued stubbornly. “Everyone already knows exactly who I am. And that’s what’s makin’ me nervous.”
Tex had rented out a huge private venue that night, three days before the first race of the season. He threw a massive party for all the racers, sponsors, and any other big names that wanted to come. It was tradition, an act that was done to reinforce the principle of friendly competition on the track.
Cal had been training relentlessly. He’d gotten the deal with Dinoco after his uncle’s retirement. He’d learned so much and tried so hard, but none of that helped with his social anxiety. The booming sound of the music inside the building was wrecking his nerves.
“Well, then in that case, you better go make some friends, and show ‘em you’re more than just a legacy.” Tex said. “Racin’ ain’t nothing if you have to do it with people you don’t like.”
Cal took a deep breath. Tex looked at Cal’s worried look and laughed a little. “You know, King was a lot like you when he started racin’ for me. Didn’t want to have to talk to more people than he had to.”
“But he’s so good at it now!” Cal exclaimed. “He doesn’t have a problem talking to anyone.”
“Because he forced himself out of his comfort zone, kid.” Tex told him.
Cal looked toward the entrance, and tried to swallow his fears. He looked down at his fresh paint job, the Dinoco logo painted on his hood. I am a Weathers. I was made for this. This is my dream.
The pep talk helped a little. He wasn’t going to throw away his chance just because of his nerves getting in the way. He had to make his uncle proud, if nothing else. He took another deep breath and drove through the doors.
This place was fancy. It was dimly lit with colored spotlights moving along the walls to the beat of the music. There was an open bar at the far end of the room, and a DJ and dance floor to his left. Every Piston Cup racer he’d ever seen was there, having a blast. They were gathered into smaller groups, just talking and laughing with each other. Cal felt very small.
He slowly made his way to the bar, thinking that maybe a small drink would ease his nerves. Some of his uncle’s advice came to mind. “High grade makes you stupid, kid.” Maybe a little stupid was what he needed to get through the next couple hours.
Cal was very aware of what was going on around him. He saw entire groups of racers stop and whisper as he drove by.
“Is that the King’s boy?” someone asked.
“I hear he’s good.” someone else whispered. “Dinoco didn’t hesitate to offer him the sponsorship.”
“I hear he’s faster than McQueen.” another said.
Cal picked up a little speed and passed the majority of the crowd, not bothering to stop and correct them. He hoped he could live up to their preconceived standards, but he doubted himself. There was no way he was faster than last year’s rookie. Equally fast? Maybe, but he wasn’t going to count on it.
He pulled up to the bar. “Surprise me.” Cal told the bartender, not having a clue what to order. While he waited for his drink, another car pulled up next to him, alone.
Cal looked over and didn’t recognize this racer. He was wearing OctaneGain’s colors and logo, and looked about as lonely as Cal felt. Cal took a sip of the drink the second the bartender passed it to him and steeled himself.
“Hey, man.” Cal said with almost believable confidence. “You new this year, too?”
The other car looked at him as if he was surprised to be spoken to. “Y-yeah. Name’s Bobby. Bobby Swift. You’re Cal, right?”
“Yeah.” Cal answered with a smile. “Some party, eh?”
Bobby let out a short laugh. “I guess. There’s a lot of famous cars here.”
“I’m feelin’ kind of out of place to be honest with you.” Cal tried opening up to this guy. He seemed alright. Maybe he’d be a friend.
“Hey, man, at least people know your name.” Bobby told him.
“So what’s your story?” Cal asked, wanting to divert attention away from himself. “How’d you make it into the big leagues?”
Bobby sized Cal up. He seemed like an alright guy. He felt he could trust him. Before they knew it, they were laughing and telling stupid stories, completely comfortable with each other.
“Mind if I join you two?” a familiar voice said. The two rookies turned to see the gleaming red racer coming towards them. “Bobby, right? And Cal?”
Bobby was beaming, thrilled that Lightning knew his name. Cal smiled, thinking back to how last season had ended. This guy was a genuinely good racer, on and off the track.
“Hey, McQueen, come on over.” Cal said, backing up to make room. “Nice to finally meet you.”
“Yeah, same to you.” Lightning responded. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Cal closed his eyes and groaned. Bobby laughed a little and said, “He’s been getting that a lot.”
“Hey, don’t worry.” Lightning waved it off. “Don’t stress yourself out. Everyone will know you for more than your name before long. Have you guys met everyone yet?”
Bobby and Cal looked at each other. Lightning figured they hadn’t. “Come on, let me introduce to you a few of my friends.”
The night started to really pick up. Cal began to enjoy himself. Lightning introduced him and Bobby to everyone he was even remotely close to. And the other racers were just as friendly. Cal felt at home, like he finally belonged. As the place began to clear out in the early hours of the morning, he was among the last to leave.
Before he left, though, he found Lightning again, and pulled him away from the remaining crowd a little ways.
“Hey, listen, I know we don’t know each other super well or anything, but I wanted to thank you for something.” Cal told Lightning with as much sincerity as he could muster. “What you did last season, for my uncle, you’ll never know how much that meant to me. To my family. And I just wanted to personally thank you for that.”
Lightning smiled at Cal, thinking back to that day. “I’m glad I could do that for you, Cal. The King was the greatest racer of his generation. I wasn’t about to let his career end like that.”
Cal smiled back. He was tired, but happy.
“How about you meet me out on the track tomorrow?” Lightning offered. “I’d like to run a few practice laps with you. See if we can’t get Bobby to come too.”
Cal was surprised. McQueen - the Lightning McQueen - wanted to practice with him? Wanted to spend time with him?
“Yeah, I think I can do that.” Cal replied, visibly excited.
“Alright.” McQueen turned to drive away. “Nine o’clock! Don’t keep me waiting!”
Cal drove back to the hotel with a big goofy smile slapped on his face. This is what his uncle had told him about. The camaraderie between racers really was the spirit behind the sport.
