If you think about space travel and life that might be way more advanced than us. It would not be unlikely they have similarities to us.

If an alien civilization sent a spaceship to Earth, they would likely have a lifecycle like us, meaning a birth, a lifespan, and an end of life. The methods and lengths I'm sure would be different than us, but again similar.

Figure they are made up from the same physical laws, or have even overcome the speed of light, but it would still take huge amounts of time to travel from point A, their planet, assuming it would be a planet, to point B, that would be us. It would probably take several of their generations to make it here, their point B.

Under those circumstances they, the alien space travelers, would be just as alien to their once home planet as they would be to our planet. That may also mean the purpose their planet set as their mission may evolve over the generations.

Lightyears are a funny thing. I’m sure a lot of you know why this form of measurement is called as such. And I had a small grasp of it, but didn’t really get it until it was written out for me and I was like ‘woah.’

Light is the fastest thing in the universe, nothing is faster than the speed of light. Scientists argue about a lot of things, but one indisputable fact is that nothing outruns light.

And so, we come to lightyears. A lightyear relates to how long it takes the image to reach our eyes. If something is one lightyear away, it takes one year for that image to reach us.

But the real mind boggling thing is that we are seeing that thing one year into its past, because in the year it took for that image to reach us, it’s changed.

When we are looking at a star that is 100 lightyears away, the image we are seeing is of what that star looked like 100 years ago. Because it took 100 years for that exact snap shot of the star to reach us.

And just remember, nothing is faster than the speed of light, so imagine how far that star is away from us that it took 100 years for that light to reach us.

Keep in mind, a beam of light travels 300,000 kilometres (about 186,411 miles) per second.
