One of my favourite movies, and he’s wonderful in it. 

3. Livet är en Schlager

If I were to call anything a guilty pleasure (which I never do, I’m not ashamed of the media I consume) this would be it. The movie is... trash... not gonna lie. But I think he’s great in it. Only thing is that it’s making me sad that I never got the opportunity to see him play Bernadette in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. The curse of living three hours away from Stockholm.

Apropå asken om ”Jag orkar inte mer”, till sitt sommarprat 2018 bad Markoolio Jens Hult gör en nytolkning av just den låten, som skulle beskriva Markoolios barndom. Den är väldigt fin, men väldigt sorgsen, men också hoppfull. Jag kan starkt rekommendera den i alla fall! Finns på youtube och spotify.

@ensignbeedrill asked me how different Så som i himmelen the movie is from the musical, and whether I’d recommend watching it. Since this is turning into a ramble that won’t fit into a single reply or five, I’ll post it as a regular post instead!

In my opinion, the musical is very faithful to the original movie (which makes sense, since the musical is written by the film’s director and one of its scriptwriters). It adds things like comic relief and some thematic stuff, but all characters and almost all major scenes are there in the movie already. Their order is mostly unchanged, and some (most?) of the musical’s dialogue is lifted directly from the movie, too.

But the weird thing is, I don't like it at all!

I think I’m mainly bothered by the... vibe of the movie, I guess. The story has some dark elements, but at its core, it’s about positive and warm things – things like the power of art, community, and love. But the film’s visuals and overall mood do nothing to convey any of that! Instead, the colour palette is mostly cold and muted, and there are scenes that veer into excessive realism. If you watch the trailer, you’ll see some of what I’m talking about (trigger warnings for blood, animal death, and guns.)

I saw the movie after seeing the musical, and I think my distaste for it is mainly because I’m unable to forget how much better the story works onstage. But I think there are about a million Swedes out there who absolutely love the movie and would disagree with me, or at least think the movie and the musical are just as good. And of course, I don’t think it’s 100% bad, either. My favourite thing about it is Helen Sjöholm, she’s simply amazing as Gabriella!

So in a nutshell: give it a try. All of Sweden loves it and who knows, maybe you’ll end up enjoying it, too! It’s just not for me.

29. Islands - Josef Salvat

I listened through the entirety of Islands once and went, eh, it's okay, then I listen through the entirety of it a second time, and went feral. And the titular track is such a huge part of that, like Mr. Salvat just Went Off with this song. Like. "I want someone who will come and reassure me I'm exactly where I need to be", he didn't need to do that, he didn't!!!! But he did!!!!!!! And I'm so eternally grateful. Literally the most Millennial Existential Crisis anthem of all time.

Åh tack så mycket, sötaste, finaste Kako!!! Och haha, ja visdomstanden har inte gett sig, men det har ändå varit överkomligt när det har funnits så mycket annat fint att fokusera på! Jag har spenderat dagen med min familj och är nu hemma hos mina föräldrar för att bli riktigt ompysslad hela helgen!

13: what color do you think represents you best (not necessarily your favorite color)? - either a light, sky blue, or a deep, earthy green. i'd like to think i'm something comforting

17: what’s your favorite candy? - i like most things with a good caramel, chocolate or nougat in it. a riesen, or dumle or geisha by fazer is always in my bag.

37: what are your favorite pair of shoes? - i don't really have a large selection, i just have one pair of whatever most suiting for the season/occasion. so my favourite is whatever is best to wear right now, as i consider all parmeters before buying; comfort, style and price
