I need to take a moment here to really, REALLY appreciate Toby fox's characters and writing. Having such a big, popular indie creator who's also so LGBTQ-positive (not gonna pretend it's any of my business wether he's One Of Us or just an absolutely banger ally) means a lot to so many of us - especially since he's in a position where he doesn't have to worry about corporate censoring and having to fight to have his story told the way he wants or to include intended representation.

'Would they ever be brave enough/able to make this wlw/mlm ship canon?' isn't even a question with his work - more just 'is this intended as romantic or simply a really beautiful, well rounded and full-of-heart friendship?' (best example that comes to mind here is sans and toriel, a m/f pair lol)

And the amount of nonbinary characters!!!! We've seen so many examples of characters who use they/them, one of which who uses no pronouns at all in-game (seam), and even someone who seemingly uses they/it! (That being chara). And ofc mettaton and mew mew's stories being pretty clear examples of binary trans characters...

The fact that this feeling of normalcy even extends to poly relationships is absolutely staggering to me, and so, so rare in any kind of media. @determinators' recent post went into a lot less detail with this kinda thing but to just to reiterate: there were several example of poly relationships being normalised in the sweepstakes and one in cyber city, and then on top of that we have the knowledge that homestuck (which Toby contributed to) had a canon poly relationship be endgame, and then there's Asgore's whole.... Situation. (There's hints towards him and Rudy, but he also seems FULLY intent on trying to win toriel back and Rudy apparently still loves his wife and doesn't seem headed towards divorce currently, y'know?) The fact that it's now POLY relationships that people are questioning if they could really happen in his games (with the possibility being real!) is... Really cool!

Anyway tldr I guess: I love that we don't need to question lgbtq representation in undertale and deltarune - we know it's something we're getting constantly and all the time regardless of if characters are in relationships or not, and it always feels so genuine, fleshed out and full of heart. The fact that there's kids out there getting to grow up with Toby's work is so, so important to me.

OH I AMM. BITING i will talk abt this topic FOREVER

jpv’s gender is truly girlfag to me. and imo her breaking away from the order of st dumas and her + azrael deciding to use their abilities to protect and save can be a trans narrative—EVERY prior azrael in their lineage was male, and every prior azrael was a weapon used by the order to deliver vengeance. and of course there’s the obvious gendered implications of those two paths (being merciful and protective as “feminine” and then aggressive and vengeful as “masculine”) that i think are SO interesting to explore. at the same time though i don’t think her gender identity lacks masculine facets, or is completely separate (or even separate at all) from masculinity. and this of course adds nuance to the prior conversation: azrael is now the angel of mercy, but that doesn’t mean they’ve completely divorced themselves from the concept of vengeance. that long ass ramble is to say: i see jpv as bigender, preferring a more gender nonconforming presentation and also identifying with transfeminine identity. i do also tend to say that i think she uses she/he pronouns, but most of the time im talking about her i end up using she/her

and for sexual identity: girlfag also, obviously, applies here. i’ve never been able to recognize her on-panel attraction to women as genuine or even present. it really feels like how i (boydyke) would look at men as a “i want to be them” and everyone around me interpreted as “i want to be with them” to the point that i assumed that’s what it was as well. admittedly, this is probably influenced by the fact that the first thing i ever read of her WAY before i became obsessed with her was tynion’s TEC comics, and she and luke are very 🏳️‍🌈 in that, but i also should mention that her and luke’s relationship is the only one of hers i’ve ever been able to interpret as romantic.

and thus i have recently been toying around with her being somewhere on the ace/aro spectrum, although im not 100% sure where. the majority of her expressed attraction has, as previously mentioned, felt very surface level to me, while SO MANY of her most important relationships have been platonic. i’ve also been thinking about the idea of her and luke as platonic/queerplatonic, and i think exploring some of her other relationships as queerplatonic could be SO interesting. like qpr jpv and babs???? i need to eat them

and then there’s ALSO azrael ofc. i see him as genderless but not in an identifying as agender way more of like a. never occurred to him to have a gender and he’s so genderless that identifying with a gender identity term doesn’t fit for him. like “what’s your gender” “i am the angel of vengeance” “okay but what’s in your pants” “i have a flaming sword” “is that a euphemism” “*pulls out actual flaming sword* no”. i mostly use he/him for azrael because i genuinely just think it doesn’t occur to him to use other pronouns, and if someone were to bring it up he’d just see no reason to try and change. not in a denial way i just think he’s genuinely like. transcended the need for pronoun changes. although i do occasionally fuck with the idea of him using hy/hym pronouns. his gender makes sense to me but i cannot explain it. and then similarly i can’t explain his sexual/romantic orientations he is just. i think he’s similar to jpv in that the majority of his meaningful connections and relationships are platonic but i think (for example, if jpv was with luke romantically) he could end up building a connection with a partner that wasn’t strictly platonic. whether that would become romantic i can’t currently say because i haven’t fleshed out my jpv and azzy ace/aro spec headcanons. although at the end of the day i just don’t really think labels are super important to az? like he’s just kinda *waves hand* there. although i DO think identity is important to him. that might seem contradictory to what i’ve said previously in this ramble but i think that while he doesn’t identify with labels i do think he identifies as like. being other than what the order of st dumas would force him into being and being other than what the world would force him into being. azrael as a character, especially recently, is about forging your own path and that you are more than what people might force you to be and i think he would find comfort (or at least vindication) in the fact that there are these core parts of himself that are so incongruous with what would be expected of him, yknow? like as previously discussed with the concept of azrael being forcibly masculine, and him (not just jpv) being able to move past that and both define what being azrael means to him and define what gender means to him. overall i have a lot of thoughts on azzy but i haven’t been able to solidify them and Decide on them the way i have jpv which is something i must change immediately

in (outer world) presentation i’d say that azzy is also gender non-conforming but in a far more fashionable way than jean paul. azrael would be coordinating like runway ready looks while jpv has the worst fashion sense imaginable which is so funny to me. also i think azrael would be absolutely CRACKED at makeup don’t ask me why i just think he’s very good at it

This took me awhile bc I have so many things..

Personally I think Wayne and Decres are two separate people (but loovvee seeing hcs where they're the same person) and I think Wayne uses he/they pronouns and is trans masc.

I could and probably will make a separate post about the Waynes as a species at some point but I'll dive into it some here. To me I think that they're kinda scorpion like, and that the tips on old Wayne's tail are the stingers! They don't start out with the stingers and grow them over time... Wayne doesn't have any yet. Wayne also has the chest legs left over from his larva stage as well as a tail, but I also think he has hoves of some kind (bc of Herdingflowers, they're also the one I got gorma ideas from!! I finally checked lol) I can't let that man have people feet that'd be wrong!! He also has boobs because I said so idc if that makes sense or not (he doesn't have nipples though) he's also fuzzy like a bug, but he's got thicker hairs in some areas :)

Biggest one is his ass is from the moon. The Waynes were a moon species and they got displaced to hylicworld after it blew up! Which is why Wayne's living with them in the second game. Why's Wayne away from the rest from them in the first game? Banished from the moon of course! Why's he banished from the moon? (I think that if you also follow Gloopdimension you can see how many of my ideas started from them lol)

I also think he's majorly depressed (for obvious reasons) and he's inclined to kill himself and just go to the afterlife rather than deal with certain inconveniences if he isn't with other people. Patton

He’s genderqueer!! Goes by he/him and she/her pronouns!! Not many people use she/her but he doesn’t mind much.

Also has depression and autism.

His parents have always been very supportive of him despite being divorced. Patton is their little baby and they would kill for him.

He’s been friends with Logan since they were toddlers. They’ve been thru so much together that they’re practically siblings.

He and Logan met Roman and Remus once they entered school (since they’re a grade above) and quickly befriended them.

Well, until middle school came along and Remus seemed too graphic.

Patton was the one to get in the big fight with Remus. He was scared of Remus because he was acting more violent and scary and that caused Roman to admit he didn’t like Remus’ new ideas either.

It just became a domino effect of childish fear. Patton does regret being so harsh on Remus, but he does think he’s made the right decision.

Logan

They’re agender. I know I used he/him pronouns but I’m just getting more things figured out.

Doesn’t remember a lot about their dad, but their mom told them that he wasn’t the best person.

They don’t remember a lot about their childhood really, mostly just what Patton and their mom tells them.

They’ve never been the best friends with Roman, but they can’t say they hate him. Just find him aggravating.

Emile has been their therapist for as long as they could remember, probably how they met Patton in the first place.

Works at a department store. They fucking hate it there.

They’re the only one (besides Roman ofc) that still talks to Remus. Not friends with him, mind you, but will talk to him when Patton is too afraid to and Roman rather not be seen with him.

They do think Patton was being rather unreasonable kicking Remus out, but they didn’t want to risk getting in trouble too.

Roman and Remus

Roman has a very different relationship with his parents than Remus does, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good relationship.

Their parents hold very high standard for Roman that he never really achieves and Remus is yelled at and belittled constantly for doing little things.

Because of this, Roman is terrified of disappointing or upsetting his parents and Remus has long sense given up on them.

However, Remus is still closeted like Roman because he rather not get kicked out of the house yet.

Remus likes to paint a lot and he’s painted all of them. Most of them are gorey and titled aggressive things. Except Janus. He loves painting Janus.

Roman is more into writing and acting than drawing and painting like Remus. He still an extremely talented artist tho.

Remus has a pet rat named Barf Bastard. BB for short. His parents don’t know about him.

Virgil

Tallest in his family despite being the youngest.

Has severe anxiety of all kinds and a bit of imposter syndrome.

Visits his dad sometimes, but he lives outside of Florida so it’s not very often. His father is a bit distant, but he does still love Virgil.

His mother is a huge goth so his emo phase is more of how he was raised then just a phase.

Didn’t have any friends before meeting Remus and then “upgraded” (in his opinion) to Patton, Logan, and Roman.

He really didn’t like Remus that much, he just followed Janus around because he didn’t know what to do.

In fact, he can barely tolerate Janus.

They used to get along, but after Virgil left him and Remus for the others, stuff has been tense around them.

Plus, his snake almost tried to eat his tarantula when they first met and he’s been angry ever since.

Janus

Shortest in his family which he is very against.

Despite his mother being bisexual, he doesn’t have a father like Virgil.

Was adopted by his mother, single as can be and just wanting a child. He was around 6/7 ish when he was adopted so fairly young.

Doesn’t know why his bio parents put him up for adoption but those painful middle school years of self hatred and gender dysphoria says that it was because of his birthmark.

But since those terrible times, he’s the shining image selfcare and maturity. Probably another reason why Virgil doesn’t like him.

Was mostly drawn to Remus because his appearance was just so... weird that he wanted to know more about the kid. He half expected Remus to be one of those asshole types that just wanted to look edgy, but was pleasantly surprised when he turned out to be just fun and weird.

Is now the proud owner of over 10 paintings of himself as a half-snake man by the lovely Remus Prince.

cohen currently lives in a glorified, raggedy frat-esque house ( he is NOT a fratboy but he might as well be huh ) of his own right off campus, about a five minute drive / ten minute walk from the stadium ( it’s about four bedrooms large with three bathrooms, all on one floor. think david dobrik’s house–click here to see–except much uglier and CHEAP MVDFLG ). 

he’s fiscally very protective of his savings. he’s been working since he was 12 with his dad, and never ever spent his money, despite some repetitive near-misses where his parents tried ( and failed, bc cohen’s slick ) to steal money from him. basically he now pays for his share of the house using the money he saves/has always saved working for factories, farms, & fixing people’s junk cars. 

his only current roommate is foster, meaning he has two spare rooms he’s not really doing anything with. beer pong table’s outside, the kitchen is the alcohol hot spot, there’s a pool table instead of a dining room table, u know how it goes. 

regardless, he throws open invite house parties literally every weekend. they take place every friday night up until the sun rises on sunday morning–whether he’s around the house for all of five seconds or all night doesn’t matter, because they’re always a-go.

hardworking–he works himself to the bone and is entirely unapologetic about it. you’ll rarely catch him slipping, but if he does, he’s the first to get ear-splittingly angry with himself over it. he’s way too hard on himself & he knows it, but he’ll never admit it. 

he nitpicks at the flaws of others in an effort to feel superior, and always acts unaffected when he’s called out for bringing the team down when he’s not taking care of himself ( cue vince howard from fnl or nathan scott from oth scenes where they’re bragging about how good they are on the field even though he’s apt to get himself hurt because of how desperate he is for some kind of validation–cohen had a huge issue with restricting and abusing stimulants / testing steroids throughout high school and college in an attempt to boost his football persona. he was always incredibly fast and beat literal ODDS to maintain his wide receiver position, but especially thanks to his small build he’s used to being underestimated / downplayed, which puts a really heavy weight on his shoulders. today, he’s eating healthily, he’s off drugs, and he’s taking care of himself better than he ever has before, but it’s still incredibly hard and he still reaches out for ways to overcompensate, which is where alcohol usually comes into play ). 

transparent–sure, he can turn into a stressed out & irritable jerk within a fraction of a second, but at least he’s upfront about when he switches lanes. LDFGLMKFG

ACHILLES.

disclaimer: i’ve utilized several sources to form my portrayal of achilles, namely the iliad and the song of achilles. i have not read the pjo books, but i googled achilles’ role in it & i’ll incorporate that to my characterization to the best of my abilities.

so, achilles. a son of peleus, a king, and thetis, a nereid. boy was destined for greatness long before he was even conceived; great enough that the gods chose to dilute it by giving thetis to a mortal man. despite this, his destiny was to still become the greatest warrior of his generation. thetis, wanting to further protect him, dipped him in the river styx and boom, the powers of almost complete invulnerability ( except that one heel ) were achilles’. 

his childhood was actually quite lonely? sure, he had peleus’ orphan boys to keep him company & plenty of admirers, but there was always a certain distance between them, especially he had separate, private lessons. that is until a certain awkward young prince arrived in peleus’ court. achilles was instantly smitten ( a shoutout to that time when he became that ‘g2g chicken’ meme after their first kiss ) and this feeling just became stronger through the years as they studied under chiron’s tutelage at mount pelion. 

AND THAT’S IT. NOTHING HAPPENED AFTER THAT. ACHILLES GOT HIS HAPPY ENDING.

tHEN PARIS HAD TO DO HIS THING AND RUIN ACHILLES’ HAPPINESS ( thanks a lot dude ). the war started and, despite the ordeal with thetis where achilles was yeeted to lycodemes’ court & ended up knocking up deidamia, he was off to fight in the trojan war ( with his emotional support philtatos right by his side ).

during his years there, he does his thing. he fights, kills more trojans and their allies than anyone else, is a great leader to his men, and spends his free time with his boyfriend. also i wanted to add that he was not as hostile toward briseis as he was in tsoa. like, ofc they weren’t as close as patrochilles or pat and bri, but he wasn’t as jealous as implied in tsoa. 

anyway, now we’re getting closer to that period of time. stuff goes fairly normally, but then aging meninist ( idk how to spell his name & im too lazy to look it up, but u know who i mean ) decides to dishonor him by unlawfully taking briseis from him. and oh boy, do we get to see achilles’ non-chill side. victim-playing & stubborn spite game is strong af. someone tries to reason with him? he becomes that ‘i suddenly can’t read i don’t know’ gif. 

anyway, shit turns bad enough that he eventually, although reluctantly, consents to patroclus donning his armor and leading the myrmidons out there. that obvs ends super badly and achilles, true to himself, reacts even worse. he goes ballistic and even fights a river before he finally gets what he wants --- hector dead. after that, he stops caring. he fights, sure, but every single time he wishes his death would come. death eludes him for a while after that, and when it finally arrives & that arrow lodges itself in his heel, achilles vc: finally some good fucking food.

except sike, not ! his bitchass of a son delays the reunion he’s been yearning for. achilles curses him & 100% disowns him because he dared to disrespect his final wish. bUT EVENTUALLY HIS PERSON ARRIVED AND ACHILLES WAS SO !!!!!!!!!!!! BECAUSE ALL WAS FINALLY GOOD. achilles got a good dose of positive character development bc he realizes the error of his ways when he was alive, but most importantly, he never had to part with his one true love.

until the gods got themselves into another mess & dragged other, innocent people with them. smh ( uncle sam and/or the gods better square up when achilles regains his memories bc how dare they interrupt his lovely afterlife with pat!!!! )

AUSTIN.

so, enter the man achilles thinks he now is: austin pelham. his full name is austin alexander pelham-niarchos, but for the sake of simplicity, he goes by austin pelham most days. he is the only child of us army general & greek heiress to a shipping empire. not really a happy marriage, but they wouldn’t divorce either. both adored austin, though, so the boy didn’t pay too much attention to his parents’ marital struggles.

austin’s future was laid out from a young age too. he was to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an army official as well, possibly one of the greatest this nation had ever seen. considering his natural athleticism and gift for commanding crowds, it seemed a feasible future path & austin himself accepted it without complaining.

however, he was a mere kid when all this was told to him, so he couldn’t be too bothered. sure, he excelled in school ( his mother insisted he should only attend the best institutions ), but mostly he enjoyed the perks that came with having been born to a lap of such luxury. 

contrary to popular belief, austin had basically no true friends; sycophants and other admirers, yes, but no one he truly bonded with. he wouldn’t have minded finding such person, but they never came along & that was fine with austin. he was independent enough to “survive alone.”

so years have gone by, manhattan’s boy king has graduated from harvard with a degree in history, and it’s time for him to join the army, right? sike, no ! austin’s mother had never been particularly enthusiastic about the idea of her son joining the army & possibly getting killed in action, but this is the first time she has a major argument with her husband about it. 

before he could do anything about it, she made her move. she used her connections to get him his movie role and manipulated austin by telling him that if he were to abandon his military plans & pursue a career as an actor, he could achieve more fame than he had ever dreamed of. austin, being a trusting person, had no reason to believe otherwise, so he accepted his mother’s offer and began working as an actor.

and what a rise to stardom it was. after his role, he got more and more offers, most of which were action / war films. austin did not mind being known as an action star; those were his favorite type of movies to film anyway. recently he finished filming what is supposed to be next spring’s ( & year’s ) biggest blockbuster and now relocated back to new york city where he plans to stay for a few months at least.

personality wise, i’d say he is most similar to pre-trojan war achilles ( when he’s at mt. pelion & lycodemes’ court ). he still has that certain brand of innocence to him and fairly easy to manipulate if you know where to strike. however, he has earned a reputation of being somewhat challenging to work with ( he knows what he wants / how he wants something done & isn’t afraid to demand this respect ). this hasn’t tamed the constant flow of work offers, though, because a) he has a way with the crowd, so fans love him, b) money is guaranteed due to his large crowd of followers, and c) he always gets the job done when he sets his mind to it. slightly more prone to making bad decisions, since he doesn’t have his impulse control person. austin is often up for a good time, though, and an evening with him won’t be a boring one.

               I don’t really remember what inspired this muse, I think I remember the thought process being.. ‘ What if Conner stayed with Lex ’ and it went from there. The muse got stronger when Bat and Prince joined in, and I kept the ball rolling for him! I love this idiot and I love watching him try to figure himself out.

WHAT  ARE  YOUR  FAVORITE  ASPECTS  OF  YOUR  CURRENT  MUSE :  

his determination : Conner runs on spite and determination alone. He is bullheaded and will do what he thinks he needs to do to get the job done. There are a few exceptions to this rule, but generally he is persistent and insistent. 

His modesty : There really isn’t any. Or, well, it depends on who he is with. He’s flirtatious, it’s mouthy, and cocky, and he isn’t afraid to make a point of how good a lay he might be. Modesty? Don’t know him. 

How personally relatable he is : Fairly! I actually find it really easy to relate to Conner. He’s lost on occasion and trying to figure out who he is as a person, and trying to learn he doesn’t need his parents(?) to be his guide. I’m kinda of like that in the same way, my parents are divorced and I’m moved out, I’m struggling to be my own adult while trying not to take sides, and trying to be my own person.

His beauty : Conner holds a lot of stock in how he looks. He knows he is a lady killer, he knows he looks fucking good, and if he is anything less then he isn’t what he wants to be.

           How good I’m feeling! What I’ve read recently, what I’ve seen recently. A lot of things really contribute to how and when I write, and what I write!! 

FAVORITE  TYPES  OF  THREADS :

           NSFW and angst mostly. But GOD!! Do I love soft love and romantic scenes to. I’ve got a lot of reasons for both but really it comes down to it’s easiest for me.  I actually find a lot of emotional development between the three of them, and I know it’s not really special, but I really do genuinely enjoy mixing them too. Hurt / Comfort sex? Hell yeah, mix it all together and you got a really great stock for my boys usually having soft and emotional feelings about how much they love someone. 

BIGGEST  STRUGGLE  IN  REGARDS  TO  YOUR  CURRENT  MUSE :

             I have a hard time trying to figure out how to get characters to interact. I hate assuming and hate thinking something might work when it just ends up confusing.  That and just how tired I am! I work full time, I try to go to the gym, and eat, and sleep, and it’s hard for me to write when I want to write and get a reply when I want / need a reply. I have a weird schedule too, and that really doesn’t help.

nathan harold zaleski jr was practically born with a pair of skates on, which makes sense considering his family is hockey royalty. his father is nathan harold zaleski sr, aka a legend and one of the biggest names in sports to this very day. olympic gold medalist several times over, beloved longtime defenseman for the toronto maple leafs, at the very peak of his career and married to a beautiful wealthy socialite when his only child was born.

he’s got dual citizenship because he was born in canada even though he hasn’t lived there since he was ten, but his parents were us citizens, which doesn’t seem important but WAIT FOR IT

nathan jr, who would begin going by the nickname of hal early on in life, probably learned how to skate before he even learned how to walk because of course he did. his father’s intention was always to have another him. i mean for fuck’s sake they have the exact same name. hal’s purpose in life has never been in question, not by him or anyone who’s ever seen him play.

his natural talent for hockey became apparent from a very young age, which didn’t surprise anyone ofc. his father saw it as a sign and began pushing him even harder, hiring the very best trainers and coaches to help perfect his game while nathan sr focused on his own career.

except that he was running out of steam and fast. nothing happened like there was no huge scandal or career ending injury. nathan sr was just...getting old. fans were simply losing interest in him as newer and younger players joined the league and there was nothing he could really do about it except make sure his legacy lived on.

hal was ten years old when everything seemed to finally fall apart. his dad was hanging on to the very last threads of his career, let go from the maple leafs and almost certainly picked up by the new york rangers purely out of pity. meanwhile, hal’s parents finally divorced which he took almost alarmingly well for a ten year old, but it’s not like his parents were ever a shining example of a deep, loving marriage. they spent years settling the divorce, fighting back and forth while suing the shit out of each other across whole fuckin countries. lowkey they almost wound up being more famous for the legal drama than they were for hockey.

hal’s dad finally retired when he was twelve, won sole custody of him when he was fourteen, and pulled enough strings to get him a spot on the canadian hockey team dual citizenship! going to the 2010 vancouver winter olympics when he was just a teenager, making him one of the youngest players to ever compete in the games.

and canada won gold that year so hal was making history again in no time, being one of the youngest players to ever become a gold medalist in the winter olympics. now he didn’t actually see a lot of playing time that year. his skill was undeniable, but no one seemed to think that he was ready for the big time rush. tbh they probably weren’t wrong, but nevertheless his name and his win made an impression on everyone.

up until that point hal was homeschooled bc ofc education came second to hockey, but he always wanted to attend an actual school and he did! after his first olympics his dad finally sent him to the same private school in the city as all the other rich kids and it was...weird! he started in the middle of the year and was instantly an outsider among his classmates. everyone else had known each other all their lives so hal immediately at a disadvantage. it didn’t help that he’d never really...had a single friend before. tbh his peers were probably intimidated by him. he was just a high schooler and already an olympic gold medalist like...ofc no one wanted to be the person to go approach him and say hi.

played for canada again dual citizenship! at the 2014 winter olympics in sochi when he was eighteen and this time HE WAS THE STAR. absolutely at the top of his game. anyone who still thought that he was a joke before the games started shut up real quick when he won his second gold medal.

he got home and was eventually drafted into the nhl, so he sorta ditched school oops. technically he finished but like...barely since he went back to being tutored for the last few months.

several teams wanted him and tried to throw a shit ton of money at him, but hal settled on the new york rangers with a huge multi million dollar deal

he quickly stole hearts on and off the ice. whether fans admired his skill or followed him during the olympics or remembered his father, for one reason or another he was winning people over left and right. unsurprisingly he’d go on to win the 2014-2015 rookie of the year award, presented to him by the president of the nhl and everything.

he did not attend the 2018 winter olympics in pyeongchang as the nhl famously refused to release their players. hal himself was a major part of the uproar. the whole country of canada dual citizenship! practically threw a fucking fit bc the nhl was disqualifying their star player from winning them their third gold medal in a row and hey big surprise...canada didn’t win gold in 2018 :)

hal’s in the middle of his fifth i think? year of pro hockey rn and so far his career has been solid. his dad is really pushing him to sign with a “better team” and he has gotten offers, but he isn’t really interested. he likes playing for new york & he likes living in new york. maybe someday....maybeeee....but for right now he’s happy with where he is.

okay now for some fast facts!

literally always looks like he just got into a fight, probably bc he just did during his last game. is usually sporting some injury like a black eye or split lip or cut cheek. fortunately hasn’t completely given in to the hockey player stereotype by getting all of his fuckin teeth knocked out...yet

notice that i hardly mentioned his mom? that about sums up their relationship tbh. hal was practically raised by nannies and trainers. his mom always had some brunch or gala or public appearance she was far more invested in. literally she didn’t even really...want custody of him when she divorced his dad, but she claimed to just to be petty and give nathan sr an even more difficult time. yeah they kinda hate each other now and since hal has always been closer to his dad, his mom isn’t even really that interested in seeing him lmao. she’ll call like once a month and invites him to brunch if she happens to be in the city, but ngl hal probably hasn’t seen her in like...a couple years at the least. he’s not really broken up about it either.

right so...walking talking endless pit of daddy issues? you bet! just because hal prefers his dad doesn’t mean that they get along or that his dad is a good person. he still has his perfect public image and he isn’t complete garbage but...yeah their relationship is extremely toxic. he’s always been very harsh with hal, pushing him and pushing him to be the best bc nothing he accomplishes is ever good enough.

so what if he's won two olympic gold medals? so what if he was rookie of the year? so what if he’s considered one of the best and most beloved players in the nhl? he can do more, he can be even better. his dad is a constant voice in his head even though he’s always around anyway. he never misses a game or an opportunity to point out hal’s every flaw.

ofc as a result hal’s always been very hard on himself. every single day of his entire life has been spent basing his self worth off what his father thinks of him. it was awful for his self esteem bc no fucking duh.

HOWEVER. it isn’t public knowledge at this time, but as of right now? hal’s relationship with his father is falling apart faster and faster by the moment. they’re a ticking time bomb & it’s literally only a matter of time before they explode yikes!

fortunately hal could sorta sense the direction things were heading and did something about it. he finally moved out when the hockey season started back in october and he’s been feeling better ever since. like he has more control over his life even though his dad is still WAY too involved.

personality: a douchebag who means no harm, mostly because he's never really trying to be a jerk. tends to come across as a typical meathead jock for good reason bc that’s exactly who he is. in conversation he's usually very blunt and a little awkward bc he’s still learning how to socialize with others. hockey is basically his whole life so it’s all he knows how to talk about, which can either be endearing or annoying. a genius hockey player, but a ditz in every other area. very short - tempered and impulsive. always means well and wants the best for those he cares about, but might go about expressing those feelings in a weird way bc he was never taught how to properly deal with his emotions.
