Enter Galactic Zine

Hey, Enter Galactic Zine here. We're Enter Galactic Zine, AKA the Zine Zone, we make zines and enjoy/support zines. All kinda genres, usually friendly, maybe not totally family friendly. Enter Galactic Zine is the title of our magazine. If we have separate zines released, they'll be released under that title and a sub-title, most likely. We might also go by Enter Galactic zine, enter Galactic Zine, Enter: galactic zine, Entergalactic Zines. That sort of thing. We might elect not to always use the same capitalization and punctuation and letter amount/spacing for our zine titles, you get the picture? Enter Galactic Zines are probably about the cosmos, space, aliens, adventures, and philosophical or moral stories, or even cosmic space alien adventures with philosophical morals.

So that's us and that's our brand basically.

It’s quite strange when people try to extrapolate some kind of ulterior motive behind my blorbo preferences. Simply put, I typically gravitated towards the ones that everyone hates in-universe, or that the fandom hates, or both.

Eridan is more special to me now due to Events I won’t explain, but damn right next to him back then was Princess Luna, Shadow the Hedgehog, Nergal Jr., Scourge, Wheatley, Thomas Barrow, Ben Solo, countless others. I dug into books and become obsessed with the black sheep and tragic figures in House Harkonnen and House Targaryen. Wuthering Heights and The Phantom of the Opera made me eat drywall and roll in the mud. Oh Solas, oh David 8, Dolores Abernathy, and the whole cast of oldfandom creepypasta characters. I was transfixed.

When I was a kid I would spend HOURS out of the week defending black widow spiders in the YouTube comments section, posting my own videos of myself holding them in my hands. Something something righteous autism empathy, who knows. My parents used to say I should be a criminal defense lawyer. That’s probably the most important thing you should know about me going into all this. I’m the biggest black widow white knight the world has ever seen ever since I was 11 years old. I would put them on my face and smile for gods sake. Don’t talk to me about fandom.

much to my eternal heartbreak psoh wasn’t a nominated fandom for this year’s yuletide and i know several people (myself included) really looked forward to this time of the year to get new fics for a dead fandom. which. uh. is not gonna happen this year due to this.

i’m considering maybe trying to write several fics to compensate for this? it’s not really the same thing at ALL and my writing is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but if anyone has any prompts they desperately want to see for a short psoh fic send them my way and i’ll try to see what i can do

yknow what i deleted the ask because i deleted the pro shipping post whatever, but like. the one thing i hold onto. i dont even know how to smoothly say this but i genuinely dont care abt “problematic” ships in the vein of bakud*ku. i dont care. i think its fun and interesting to look at how anything like that could possibly develop

shipping stuff.. doesnt necessitate ride or die support of the relationship, it just involves an Interest in it. which i think is partially because of a weird.. not modern, but not oldfandom division of “multishipping” and.. singular shipping/OTP shipping. 

whatever the only things i dont fuck with is massive power imbalance abusive ships (primarily p*do shit).

i otherwise dont care if characters fight, if theyre toxic, whatever. if theyre on a level playing field its interesting.

god it does really feel oldfandom, but at least the craycray interfering woman trope was cut down a little from watchmaker? tbh also mad it wasn't quite good but less mad than i got at watchmaker

I just read this a couple weeks ago, and while I think I enjoyed it more than you did, I very much agree about the ??? aspects of it. It doesn't really feel like it commits to anything other than being intensely and beautifully atmospheric, which it manages, but at the expense of a real plot--especially imo around how Quechua peoples actually survived by engaging with the Spanish and other European ~~explorers~~ in the barely-national period.

That said, I think I forgave this book for the woman WAY more than I did in Watchmaker, where I felt that everything about Grace was just barely this side of forgivable

You guys are all so smart and right (and better than goodreads, I felt like I was losing it reading the reviews there). Absolutely Watchmaker was a better book (...it had a plot) BUT holy shit was it toxic. 

I did like it, especially the first third, because it’s atmospheric as fuck and it seemed like it was delving into these really interesting historical tensions between the Quechua/Spanish/English, and Bedlam was going to be a metaphorical whitewood just waiting to explode. (That they kept going on about how the town was built on literal whitewood and how SUPER FLAMMABLE it was and then it never blows up seems like a metaphor for the book as a whole). I was almost disappointed when the magic stuff kicked in.

Thanks! that was one from Oldfandom, back in the Vanilla days. someone realized you gotta be able to avoid teamkills and that was the idea that stuck.
