Amorè walks aimlessly into the surrounding forest with no real destination in mind, just a desire to get as far away from the house as possible. Birch helps her stay on her feet as she stumbles along, though eventually she does fall and just stays down. Birch curls around her and she just cries hard, cuddling into him in a rather uncharacteristic display of vulnerability.

Eventually, Diana finds them curled up under a tree and sits down on the other side of Amorè. They sit in awkward silence for a moment as Amorè attempts to stop herself from crying (with little success) before she finally asks Diana why she let Sylphi charm her. Diana responds that she didn’t really have time to react, and Amorè presses why she didn’t stop her from embarrassing herself once she started spilling her guts.

It’s like pulling teeth, having this conversation. But they have a sort of bonding moment, and Diana offers an olive branch. She reiterates the sentiment that she does care for Amoré, even if Amoré doesn’t believe her. And she’ll try to be more vigilant about this kind of stuff from here on out. Diana knows very little about magic and how it works, but she’ll try to make up for it.

Amorè admits that despite everything, she still cares for Diana too, and that’s why this has all been so hard. A lot can happen to a person in seven years. They had once been friends, and they clearly weren’t those same people anymore. Things are strained, and there is a lot between them they are unwilling to talk about.

So they decide to try and start over, and agree on “reluctantly acquired travel companions,” until they can relearn their old relationship. Amorè even promises Diana a nice crystal from her shoes once they’re big enough to harvest.

They sit in quiet as Amorè composes herself, and she quietly confesses that she’s scared to tell her parents she failed Agatha’s test. She knows they wouldn’t be angry, but that somehow makes it worse. She understands anger. She can deal with anger. But disappointment? Diana suggests they take the scenic way back, and maybe she could try the other version of the test Agatha alluded to instead.

Sylphi eventually finds them sitting under the tree. She keeps a distance, as Amorè lets it be well known she’s still furious about everything, and she’s decided that she’d like to leave Agatha’s as soon as possible. They let Birch lead them back to the cottage. As they walk, Sylphi approaches cautiously and hands Amorè a ring set with a clear stone, informing her that it will help monitor her fainting spells, though they’ll have to get the details from Agatha to figure out how.

At this point the three of them realize that Birch is not taking them back to the cottage. Instead, they end up in a clearing full of honeysuckle, and he leaves them to enjoy eating the flowers (at Sylphi’s insistence). He disappears into the tree line and returns sometime later, dragging a dead jeweled lizard behind him. He offers it to Amorè, and keeps swatting Diana and Sylphi away from it.

Amorè collects the gems from the carcass and Birch eats the rest when she’s done. Diana tries to snag a few gems, to no success, to (surprisingly) Amorè’s own amusement. Birch leads them back to the cottage for real this time, and Agatha is waiting for them at the table.

Sylphi goes up to her to ask about the ring, and Agatha instructs Amorè to put it on, though mentions once it’s on it is not to be removed. Sulkily, Amorè does as instructed, and feels a slight prick. Agatha explains that the ring will absorb some of her essence, and they all watch as the stone in the ring turns a light pink.

They sit down at the table to discuss where to go from here, and Sylphi convinces them to go after Ko Kiri. She’s still worried about her getting this place that may or may not exist on her own. As the pack up to leave, Diana tries to get a few more Earrings of Sending for the road. She’s able to get five from Agatha though she’s warned she’ll have to pay for them going forward.

As they head out towards their borrowed horses (Micycle, Bicheal, & The Darkness (aka Steven)), Agatha stops Amorè and pulls a necklace from somewhere in her scarves. She drops it into her hand and tells her it will let her know when to return for her next test.

Well, it looks like I got it right. It was a silly episode, though nothing related to the teaser we got. That's a shame. I suppose it's just to hype us up for the future. Either way, let's see what this is about!

This certainly was an episode and I'm not quite sure what to think of it /gen. It did start off and very similar to a classic SMG4 plot, I noticed we got a lot more of Mario's 64 version in this one. But for some reason I can't point my finger on it, hmm.

I'll be real, it did feel a bit uncomfortable of the whole "true beauty" thing and all that jazz, but it was a nice message at the end with Mario accepting himself. As someone who has dealt with self-image issues before, it hits closer to home more than anything. The good thing is that we got our silly goofball back.

"So, what's the big deal about your hunch?" Well, I'm glad you asked, chat. For most of the episode, I couldn't shake this feeling of familiarity until I remembered what it was when Mario transformed the second time.

You see, there is a body-horror film called "The Substance". I do wanna warn that there is a bunch of gore and things that make want to look away, I know not all of you have the stomach to look it up so I might as well warn you now. It's also the whole point of the film to make you feel uncomfortable and unsettled, perhaps even grossed out. Basically, the film brings up the topic of perfection and societal beauty standards, more specifically in Hollywood. Truly, the victim of the film is an older actress desperately wanting to bring her perfect self while at the same time hating herself for how she looks now, despite being beautiful anyway. She took a serum (that was a radioactive-green color) and it worked, only later to abuse it bc of the perfection mindset Hollywood put on her.

Perfectionism, it really leads someone to their downfall....

There's a reason I brought this film up. Throughout the whole episode, it felt off. Sure, I was uncomfortable about "fixing" one's self image, but there was another thing. The close-up to Swag's realistic mouth, the mirror. The radiation given to Mario, the heavy breathing and distortion of his body. Hell, even the way Mario feel against the table and knocked the book off from it. This is practically a PG-13 version of the film, except y'know with Mario and in the SMG4 universe. Heh, and wouldn't you know it, pink being used in the two medias to represent perfection. (you're gonna have to trust me on this for those who don't know)

Now, can we talk about 3? We GOTTA talk about 3.

On hindsight, it's part of the joke that someone would like their new look and get sad when everything turns back to normal, which in this case was 3. And it indeed caught me so off-guard to see James just there, it did get a laugh out of me. BUT if you put this context of the film in mind, this bit adds on to the topic of 3's insecurities. He already feels like the "worst version of 4" and still getting used to having friends. Then, to have this radioactive solution that supposedly makes you look perfect and become "true beauty" on him, 3 looks really happy about it. Sure, he goes on to say how he's handsome and is "The Rizzler", but that might be him trying to put up a front of his own self-image to others. And maybe to himself. Ofc everything reverts back to the way it was and 3 is upset about it. Back to being the "worst version of 4". Not to mention 3 wearing a Puzzles hoodie, y'know the one always in pursuit for perfection.

The more you think about, it really is sad.

Speaking of 4, he was the completely opposite. 4 was the first one to ask Mario what the hell did he do to them and was dumbfounded to know the reason why, for shoes. Until the very end, you can see 4 being unhappy until he's back to his old silly self. He didn't want this "perfection". Now, this is not me trying to connect it to goop!4, really I'm not. But it is just interesting that 4 didn't accept the unexpected "perfection" and rejected it.

Maybe I'm looking too much into thing and likely that the Team didn't plan all this, but these are my thoughts. Personally, it was an ok episode, all things considered, but I know some people aren't happy about it which that's fair. I just hope some people *cough cough* reddit *cough* don't take things too far and start blaming our new writer. We're just getting started and I did get a catch on some of their work, so I can put in a good word. Please do give them a chance, looking at you reddit. Not all episodes are going to be heavy-hitters and that's okay. There's always another week.

It's valid if you don't like the episode or you're unsure what to feel, just don't go looking for someone/something to blame on. Perhaps it's me being too optimistic, who can say? Besides, I know the Team's cooking, I got a hunch

Anyway, it is an interesting direction the Team went with this episode and I do hope we get more of 3's inner turmoil of being "4's worst copy" like the "Trash Friends" episode. Oh, and they follow-up on the Puzzles and WPNZ teaser somehow, a prison escape perhaps?? Who knows!

As for all of you, if you are dealing with self-image/body issues, just know that you're a wonderful person inside and out. It might not feel like it bc we're talking behind a screen, but seriously you don't have to change to be loved. You already are, and very much friend-shaped to give you a virtual hug 🫂💙 If you want, talk to somebody about it and try to handle it in a healthy and respectful way to yourself. For example, instead of the usual black hoodies I wore in high school, I dress and doll myself up with some nice and comfy clothes. Even if I'm not going out, I still do it and that helped me rebuild some confidence in myself. You can always do what you can for yourself, however you can :)

🔁 A fic you’ve re-read several times:

I've reread all the fics I recommend, but lately I've reread 'everything that you want me to' by ohdearest all the time, like every few days. For me, this fic perfectly encapsulates how I believe Anakin wants to be loved and taken care of, and why Obi-Wan is the perfect person to do that. The prose is beautiful and the tension and intimacy that the author was able to create in only 1.2k is amazing.

💘 A fic you couldn't stop reading once you started:

'Home' by skyl_tales. I'm not usually one for time travel fics, but as soon as I saw the tag 'accidental sugar daddy Obi-Wan' I knew I had to give it a read, and as soon as I started I couldn't stop. I love it when authors are brave enough to challenge the stereotype of Obi-Wan as a perfect Jedi and show that he is flawed just like everyone else. I hadn't yet read an Obikin story with a plot quite like this, nor have I since, and I'm so glad that I gave it a go. Brilliant writing with interesting character arcs!

🤩 A fic that made you SLAM that “subscribe” button:

'Untouchable' by Blu3sc0rpion. On my first read through of the Obikin tag I gave this fic a miss because the tags are a bit darker than what I usually read, but on my second go through and when I really wanted to read something new I decided to give it a go. THANK THE FORCE. It has since become one of my favourite Obikin fics ever and I subscribed to it immediately. Sadly it hasn't been updated in a while, but I don't care because what we already have is impeccable. This fic is angst and heartbreak and sob into your pillow pain, whilst also being tender and intimate and so very, very hot. Do you want to read about an obsessive love that you can see is destroying our dear boys but you can't look away because it's somehow so good?! Do you want to see them snarl at each other, have some of the honest to god hottest smut that I've ever read and then share a shatteringly intimate moment just minutes later? Read this fic (but please also check out the tags beforehand because there is some very hard stuff to read here).

✨ A fic you wish you could read again for the first time:

I've already answered this here, but I'm definitely going to recommend something else! 'Walking the fine line' by cupiscent. There is a subdued tension throughout this fic that I have never seen captured elsewhere, as if one were to dig too deep, press too hard, then something will explode and overwhelm both the readers and the characters. I love that the author doesn't explicitly state anything sexual and they let the reader fill in the blanks; it contributes to the amazing atmosphere. It is so sensual and I could only dream of one day writing like this. Every time I reread this fic I'm in awe over how well the author understands these characters and how they are able to say so much about them without explicitly stating every single thought. It is subtle and nuanced and interweaved with the most beautiful prose. Gods, I'm going to have to go and reread it again.

💯 A fic that makes you think #writergoals:

Literally anything written by @treescape. I like my Obikin in a certain dynamic, but Trees is one of the handful of writers where I will read any Obikin fic they post, no matter the dynamic. Trees' prose is incomparable, it's beautiful and accomplished, and I'm always in awe over how they can create such incredible tension in shorter fics. Whenever I'm writing and I go off on an introspective tangent, I'll always reread one of Trees' work to remind myself that sometimes saying less really is saying more. I can't pick one fic, so here are three (including a series) that I adore: 'hands on,' 'to touch the light, darkest,' and 'full and want.'

- I still love Sanji. God, he's gorgeous. And so worried about Zoro

- I wonder if Chopper is gonna do something about the aftereffects of his new rumble ball. Maybe alongside Vegapunk? Since the last rumble ball modification was made with Caesar Clown, an ex-member of MADS, it would make sense if Vegapunk helped Chopper with that, as Vegapunk was also a member of MADS

- Have I already mentioned that Sanji is fucking gorgeous and that I love him?

- I STILL HAVE ALL THE HYPES FOR MARCO AAAAAAA (during my first watch of the series I never understood the hype around him when he appeared in Marineford War arc, I honestly wish I could go back in time to slap my younger self, because Marco is such a blessing and how could anyone not hype him?!)

- Lunarians are mentioned and I still wonder if Sanji is at least part Lunarian. I kinda hope not? Sanji being part Lunarian, I mean. I feel like it would take away from his character. But then again, I'm ✨trusting the process✨

- ZORO IS BACK, and omg Zoro no need to be this badass, I will always worship you

- The way Marco cleared the stage for Zoro and how Zoro jumped into action was just *chef's kiss*

- Sanji and Zoro both attacking Queen and King at the same time, my ZoSan heart is feasting, I'm lying dead on the floor and went to fangirl heaven

- The animation looks SO GOOD I'm in love 😭

- Everyone is hyped for Zoro being back (yes, I'm worried too, Doc), and no sooner than Zoro getting a liiittle bit of attention, Sanji pokes snarky remarks at him. I guess he's jealous 🤣

- I absolutely love the dynamic between Sanji and Zoro. Even outside of my ZoSan brainrot, only the bestestest of friends could bitch at each other like that and still lay down their life for each other.

- Zoro starting a sentence and Sanji finishing it? My ZoSan brainrot is kicking by now, pls help

- Didn't Oda confirm that Zoro is not a relative of Ushimaru? Can someone pls clarify? Because again, the connection is VERY MUCH in our faces. Even if he's not a relative, there must be some sort of connection here. (also swirly eyebrows fox, remind u of someone? Hehe)

- The bits of Marco in this episode AAAAA 😭❤️❤️❤️

Idk how to put this into words. Like Oden was meant to be Shogun of Wano Kuni, wouldn't that have meant that Ushimaru would be Daimyo of Ringo under Oden's rule? And we get it in our faces ALL THE TIME that Zoro is practically like a new Ushimaru? And Hiyori is Oden's daughter. I don't know if you know what I'm trying to get at.
