First, I want to give some thoughts on his character as a whole. For the certain type of character he is (doomed, remorseful harbinger), Ryoji Mochizuki is perfect. I don't think there's a better Persona twist than his reveal as the the Appriser/Death, the thirteenth Arcana Shadow. Just because a twist is easy to see coming doesn't make it less impactful, and I particularly enjoy the way Persona 3 distills information to the player in allotments. Even knowing that, Ryoji managed to surprise me with how much more he was. And fittingly, a lot of Ryoji's characterization bounces back to the P3 Hero, and vice versa.

On top of that, Nyx Avatar is my favorite final boss in the entire Persona series and unsettled me out the first time. I'd still say that Nyx Avatar causes me more fear than the Reaper, who I'd comparatively describe as inciting panic rather than fear.

Ryoji is frequently compared to Kaworu from Neon Genesis Evangelion (NGE), and, well. Yeah. I believe I read that in a developer interview that the P3 dev team deliberately took inspiration from NGE but I'm unable to find a source at hand, so don't quote me on that. Between the two, I prefer Ryoji. He is the strongest out of the character type for me.

favorite thing about them

His layers! Ryoji is one of those late game characters who comes in and recontextualizes all the information you've learned thus far. It's why I love watching the Dictionary update throughout a playthrough. I understand why people are put off by the way he's introduced as a serial flirt, but Reload made it much more textually clear that this isn't his true personality, nor his intentions. Ryoji is proto-Teddie (Japanese Teddie, anyway); a fully formed individual who sprang into existence seeking connection. However, where Teddie's isolation and lack of identity are his defining characteristics, Ryoji's are moored in how connected he is with P3 Hero.

Ryoji ultimately only exists because of that connection, that little bit of humanity he's been given, but that's also what prevents him from being fully human. He's had a role to play since his inception, and he can't avoid that even with his newfound connections.

Ryoji's present throughout the entire story. You've got Pharos at the very beginning with the contract running errands for the Velvet Room (I like it more and more that I think about it. Picture Elizabeth or Igor having to explain to this terrifying child what he has to say. Or maybe he knew what to say all along! He has been waiting ten years), Thanatos tearing himself out of Orpheus (by far the best Persona awakening in the series and a textual highlight for what an alien force he is), and a crucial lynchpin event for Yukari's backstory, Mitsuru's backstory, as well as the crucial event for Aigis and P3 Hero.

There is no version of Persona 3 without Ryoji and I'm all the happier for it. Genuinely, if something's confusing with P3's story, there's 90% chance the answer is Ryoji or one of his many numerous forms. The remaining 10% is the Kirijo Group. That said, we don't get a lot of time with Ryoji. Ultimately, he's a part of P3 Hero and you're left to extrapolate exactly how much of each other you believe they've influenced.

Sogabe, the P3 & P4 mangaka, chose to highlight how similar Ryoji and P3 Hero look. I consider it an essential element of their relationship together.

least favorite thing about them

It'd be cheating to say nothing, wouldn't it? I'd say that his design is easy to mock and hard to get right in fanart. Between Ryoji's forehead and very Axel Kingdom Hearts approach towards long limbs – and legs in specific – the movies did not help with this. I've read reviews saying how the higher budget allowed for the characters to be more consistently on model, and thus look better, but I fervently disagree. That boy is mostly leg. Late 00s and early 10s anime art Looked Like That, though. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a soft spot for some of it.

But I love how Ryoji looks and wouldn't change it for the world. Silly slick-backed hair boy. It is funny how whenever Persona wants a villain with sympathetic qualities, they slick back the protagonist's hair (Philemon and Maruki come to mind).

Reload fixed ("fixed") this anyway but making him much fluffier in his portraits and giving his skin some color! He's achingly soft in that game.

There's many iconic ones I could pick but I'm going to go with a new one from Reload:

It's so small, it's so playful! I like that if you choose to start an exchange he finishes the bit. It says a lot about him in such a succinct way.

Even more so when you consider the reason he came here was for Junpei's sake. Being able to balance joking around while keeping a touch of concern endears me beyond belief. Thank you, Reload.

brOTP

Junpei & Ryoji. It's not even close. This was the one element I was hoping Reload would show more and I was not disappointed! The dynamic is good for a variety of reasons, but chief among them is that despite Junpei's Persona being Magician Arcana, he is not the P3 Hero's Magician Social Link. Junpei is not the male protagonist's best friend. He clearly wants to be, but his frustration is palpable. The P3 Hero is cool, charming, and everything that Junpei plays second fiddle to, but he won't even acknowledge him. But what if there were a more likeable version of the Hero?

Instant friendship. Those two are besties from day one, where Ryoji has all the qualities but none of the knowledge, and so their dynamic is a much more even one. To me, it indicates how well Junpei and the P3 Hero might have gotten along had he not carried Death inside him for ten years. It's a brief window into another world.

There's also the fact that Ryoji, Death, befriends Junpei so close to when Takaya shoots him and he perishes. His character arc is defined by change, this act being what radically transforms his soul, and what's one of the meanings of the Death Tarot? It's like universal foreshadowing. It's funny to me too that the Magician Arcana Shadow is the one Thanatos tore to pieces. Growth for Ryoji too.

As an aside, I miss the dynamic movements from the PS2 cutscenes. Junpei being so quick to drown Ryoji is nowhere comparable to him covering Ryoji's mouth.

OTP

Hmm. This might take a second. I wonder what pairing I might like with Ryoji. Here's an unrelated picture of Messiah:

You know, Messiah is one of those Personas that has only grown on me more as time passes. My favorite of the final protagonist ones, due in part to how you have to fuse him yourself. Orpheus, the starting Persona, combined with the power of Thanatos, the penultimate manifestation of the Death Arcana. They compliment each other beautifully, and regardless of if you the player create him, he is always the true final Persona, the final result of the Judgement Arcana.

They are inevitable.

Of course it's Ryoji and P3 Hero. How could it be anything else? These two make me sick with joy. Death has a clear favorite and in the end, gets to keep him forever.

nOTP

It's funny, because I can't think of any serious pairing with Ryoji that I wouldn't view as a crack ship? I can't see any version of Ryoji with anyone but the P3 Hero nor can I take that relationship seriously. The only other being Ryoji has an established relationship with is Aigis, and that ship comes across as black comedy. I mean, there's also Ryoji and the P3 Heroine, who he is undoubtedly head over heels for, but I see her as heavily preferring Aigis. Oops.

Wait, I did remember one! Ryoji and Junpei! I'll admit, maybe it's the sheer "dudebro" vibe of their relationship, but people pairing these two was not an outcome I expected from Reload. I've seen it enough to know those who like it aren't joking, either.

It's funny, because they're both soul-taken at the tail end of their friendship (Ryoji with P3 Hero and Junpei with Chidori) so I guess I wasn't looking for it? Then again I can't see Junpei Iori kissing a man in general. If there's a Ryoji pairing that isn't my thing, these two are the Most not my thing.

Ryoji memory backfill!

I've seen multiple interpretations for how Ryoji's sudden transfer, housing, and parental situations were never questioned. I like exploring this for myself, especially from Ryoji's perspective. Ryoji fully believes himself to be human until 12/2's Dark Hour. So, how does he reconcile his own situation?

This headcanon states that whenever Ryoji is prompted to answer on where he lives, what he likes, or where he went to school before, he'll often "backfill" what memories he think should be there. If it's something he should reasonably know, it'll be there.

In-game you can see a couple instances of Ryoji being stumped at simple questions, like where his class trip was going to be, but excelling at others, such as when he asks Mitsuru out to a restaurant date. According to the headcanon, he failed the class trip question because it wasn't something he anticipated, but he knew a date location because it was essential to his personality. Ryoji Mochizuki is a hearthrob, it wouldn't make sense if he didn't. So he does.

I like to think Reload Ryoji's phone is another example of this backfill, though this one spills over into material items. Ryoji thinks he should have a phone and knows he should ask for others' numbers, but when he reaches for it on his first day it isn't there.

His inconsistencies are fun.

Rapid fire small ones: his favorite color is blue, he likes sunrises but not sunsets, and he's good with children.

unpopular opinion

This may be the most unpopular opinion I have in general, but I don't believe Ryoji is bisexual. Or rather, I don't necessarily believe he must be bisexual. It's not like I'm trying to shirk representation, but I think there are so many fascinating ways that you can analyze orientation for a character. Same with gender.

Ryoji, through my interpretation, is someone who could only love the protagonist. And it doesn't have to be a sexual kind of love. There's an entire spectrum of identities in our culture that we've labeled for what Ryoji's experiences could be. It brings me joy to be able to think about how – even if Ryoji knew about these identities – he'd define himself. On top of that, would how he define himself be accurate? Would he have misunderstandings about his own identity?

There tends to be a large backlash when someone even suggests a different label for a character with one widely agreed upon, which means my gender and sexuality thoughts stay hidden away. I'm more than aware of those that insist any hint of same-sex attraction is obviously platonic and fans are reading too much into things. I'd never want to take away from an individual identifying with a character for what a fandom settles on calling them.

Though one note: it's interesting to me that from the collective opinion I've seen, people have latched onto bisexual as a label rather than pansexual despite them ostensibly meaning the same thing. Something something changing social climate. Anyway. Play around with character gender and sexuality. It's good for you.

It's a traditional New Year's celebration song. Auld Lang Syne essentially means "for old time's sake". It originates from a precursor to Scottish, and exists as a fossil word inside this otherwise Standard English prose. I find it sweet how this little, historic piece gets to survive through something that redefines it.

My favorite pictures of Ryoji are his portraits:

Sweet. Fluffy. Endlessly endeared by the way his hair flairs out. A much clearer heart shape for his face. Perfection. Special mention to his startled expression. His eyes get small and I get happy, simple as that.

Although, I'll never forgive Reload for dropping his Messiah pose:

There's an element to this portrait that's a little more unearthly, but earnest. Visually, his eyes are also a clearer parallel to Aigis's in this version.

Akihiko month - the summary

Hi guys! Time for finally write about the personal event that I did on the last month - I wanted to write it earlier but I’m lately feeling really tired due several reasons. (and still a lil’ tired by the way)

Before anything: why I decided to do this kind of project? 2 reasons: the first one was because I didn’t had any good idea for a fanart to post on his birthday - I’m a kind of person who like plan things way earlier.

The second reason is way more personal: remember when I said that Persona franchise helped me through a really hard time on the last year? Akihiko was my knight in shining armor - not because he is awesome or because his look. But because I really indentified with him on the good and also on the bad. On several situations ingame I would react the same, no matter how right/wrong/silly/sad it was. I never would start to draw again if wasn’t because him.

And yes the project name was really meh aushasha couldn’t think anything better at the time AUSHAUSHASA

Anyways, when I started, my plan was to draw till 9/22 no matter if I got a good idea for the big day or not. With help of my work scanner, I drafted several arts that turned into the chibi ones, when I was half way I not only got 2 nice ideas for his birthday that I also was inspired by some friends to do also a NSFW art about him too lol (didn’t posted this one here, check my Pixiv or my DA for it)

And of course things got crazy aushuahsa

My favorite ones are #3 - Koromaru,  10# - Hamuko, 11# - “I’m thou... Thou art I...”, 14# - The Poké Emperor and 15# - Officer Kurosawa.

My least favorite one was 5# - Minato, if I could go back in time I would redraw Minato and Akihiko - Crab-chan was perfect though aushuash The ones that took most time to do was 11# - “I’m thou... Thou art I...” and 14# - The Poké Emperor - if I knew that the 14# would take so much time, I would have skipped it and focused on things more simple, yet I really liked the final result.

The one who gave me more headache to think was 8# - Yukari, she don’t have too many (or even any at all) positive interactions with Akihiko ingame on P3/FES/P3P and PQ (never played the Arena games).

The one who gave me more headache to think the flavor text was surprisingly  10# - Hamuko lol

The most fun to do was 15# - Officer Kurosawa!

I wasn’t able to do all that I had planned unfortunately: I wanted to do one about his crossdressing outfit on P3D, one with Ikutsuki or even Strega, another one about boxing, another AkiHam one and one about the Senpai Trio Pokémon AU. I was also writting another fanfic and was doing the “How I become a fan - Akihiko” - the last one probably I’ll drop since I explained here. 

Some of these I’ll do for sure, together with other things I’m working currently.

Anyways, thanks so much for all the support, I wasn’t expecting such positive feedback. Lately I was really without any kind of confidence on my Persona fanarts due several of then barely get any feedback at all - not that I draw “for the glory” or to be “valid”, but is nice be recognized on a work about something that I really like.

Since I’m not on my best condition, I’m taking things easy so no new fanart for a while. Still have things that I didn’t posted here yet, so stay tuned (some aren’t about Persona)

Momocon Recap and Thoughts

I’m sticking this in a read-more cause it’s gonna get lengthy.

So, I should mention this was my first ever Momocon, so there was that! First of all, I finally got to meet some friends that I've had for a pretty good while now. Like, I had stayed in a hotel room with my friends Dharc, Trevor, MattTetska, and a friend of his. I also hung around Nixcan and her crew for a good portion of the con, which was awesome because I tend to wander aimlessly anyway :P

Other than that I got to meet TRG + Masae, and by Meyneth that was the highlight of the con. On Thursday, Nixxie and I had been just sitting at a table when, I think it was HP mentioned Jon was walking up. So, I got to formally introduce myself to him, which was astounding, especially since I managed to remain so damn calm. Literally, I had walked up to him and just casually shook his hand and said hi. Of course, Jon said hi back. The next thing I said was that I was Ari Zonia, I kid you not he jumped in surprise and went "Oh shit!", which got a good laugh out of me. Like, it was genuine surprise (I knew he was kind of excited to learn I was going to the con in the first place but this took the cake).

If you saw the TRG Q&A panel you probably saw Emile's reaction to who I was as well (me being the cute little idiot asking what the strangest fanart was that the guys have ever seen of themselves), Jon only pointed it out because he had met me earlier in the day (before that started I also snagged a picture with RabbidLuigi who was just confused for a second since we were both waiting for a TRG panel to start and random small girl is like "can I have a picture?"). But after that was when I finally got to just talk with Emile himself, mostly about games and such but he also asked my about Bran which was nice. Also got him and Masae to sign my copy of Xenoblade.

During all the chaos that followed leaving that panel I also handed off all the pictures I made specifically for this. I had tried giving Jon his and Lucah's earlier, but his bag was such a mess he was worried messing them up (poor guy). But after giving Masae hers, and the one for her mom (I swear she was about to cry because 1, she liked them that much, and 2, because I made one for her MOTHER), as well as Tim getting his, and Emile's too, I finally walked up to Jon and offered the pictures again. I tried not to laugh though when his first reaction was to worriedly glance at his bag again, but I had a plan. I literally gave Jon the clipboard I had kept the pictures in (it flips open to store papers in), I didn't need it since I bought it specifically FOR Momocon (I have another exactly like it here at home). But, being the nice guy he is, he didn't want to take it from me. He asked, like, five times if I was ABSOLUTELY sure I was willing to part with it, and he kept trying to hand it back. Eventually I convinced him to keep it and we double checked I didn’t stick anything else in there so he didn’t take them on accident. And then, with what I think is the softest smile I have ever seen on Jon’s face, he thanked me for that. I managed to have a little laugh with him though as I also asked if he wanted the ribbon I had around it, his response was “Well, I’ve GOT to accessorize.”, which was funny for him to say as he took it, but he had another “oh shit” reaction when I mentioned the clipboard was broken (bought it like that). I also got to hug Emile during this time, and by Meyneth he is soft. Friday and Saturday were also pretty neat since I did a lot of wandering around, playing games in the game area (finally tried Taiko Drum Master which is AWESOME, but I’m still learning the timing), but I had also gotten to be part of a couple Persona cosplay Photoshoots! (There was a lot of P5, but I was Yosuke and Naoto, more on the latter soon). Other than that, Trevor and I also had run into Masae and Emile on Friday and Emile and I just proceeded to nerd out (mostly about Xenoblade of course), but I also told Emile that I was kind of upset I couldn’t Streetpass with him because my damn Streepass doesn’t work, and the guy looked actually upset about that. That, and he was really confused (like, gears turning in head confused) when I said I didn’t use to like RPGs and actually didn’t CARE about Xenoblade before he played it. Now, to that Naoto cosplay thing. I’m sure if any of you saw the Thrown Controllers livestream (BTW, Thrown Controllers is AWESOME to be at live) , you heard Emile talking to someone off camera about being Minato (or, as he said the “Protagonist from Persona 3″). Now, the entire context of that, before that Emile was saying something about Jon’s shirt. Well, let it be known that I just cheekily said to Emile “Hey Emile! Did you know with your blue shirt, and Masae’s yellow Tim’s hair turned green?”, because I’m just a dork like that. Now, what prompted the P3 comment was, like I said, I was dressed as Naoto Shirogane (specifically DAN but that’s besides the point), and when he asked that I just went, as I stood up, “I am Naoto Shirogane! Detective Prince! At your service.” as I did a bow, and just sat back down. I had also met MomAnela during this time, both before and after the panel and it was fun to chat with her a little bit. She was surprised we knew Dennis (she plays against him a lot in Splatoon). Then again, I had posted the picture I took with her before Thrown Controllers and then she motioned to get my attention (we were sitting right behind her really) and said “I didn’t know that was you!”, which was awesome to hear. After that was the TRG signing, which in of itself was fun because I got TRG + Masae to sign my 3DS, and Jon signed my copy of the 6th Scott Pilgrim book (I got into the series ‘cause of him). During that I had wanted a picture with Emile, and I swear this next part was totally awesome. Since I was Naoto, I had a little toy gun with me, and I just stared Emile dead in the eyes, drug out the gun as smoothly as I had done all day and said “I want a picture.” Now, Emile, being the punster he is said “I thought you were going to say “I want to take a shot”.“ and he just had this cocky grin on his face. Of course that just made the picture funnier because I circled next to him and said “You are under arrest for your crimes against humanity in the form of wordplay.” But, truly it was just awesome to meet them. While I waited for Trevor to get his stuff signed I also talked with Masae for a bit, and she’s just so sweet. Like, I had mentioned to her it was my first Momocon and that I’ve been having so much fun, and she nearly made me cry when she asked “First of many?” with this look that I could only say is, like “Please say yes!”, and I couldn’t give a straight answer because I obviously didn’t know. But, based on how this year went, I may be able to go again. Hopefully. Anyway, Trevor and I chatted with her for a little bit, which was neat because we got to talking about art, and she was really surprised to hear I’ve never had any lessons and that I’m self taught. Only attributing my constant drawing of her and the guys is the reason I’ve gotten to where I am. Now, Sunday was probably the coolest because I spent basically the entire day with Nixxie and her crew, but also did stuff I hadn’t planned on doing. First of all, I got a picture signed by the voice actress for Pearl (who is my favorite Gem, fight me), and also get a couple other small things to take home (I bought a lot of cool stuff, like pins, a little card for my gender identity, a sealed copy of World Ends With You, a Squid pillow, and a deck of cards). What was awesome though was that I was waiting for Nixxie to get something signed by Lucio’s voice actor and I went to sat down when, guess who, Masae and Emile started walking by. I tried not to lose my composure too much and struck up a conversation with them (after Masae complimented my Female Ness cosplay, and Emile complimented my shoes, the poor oblivious man). To which I then basically was there for the next hour to hour and a half or so just talking with them. Again, mostly me with Emile discussing stuff like Xenocross and some other stuff like DanganRonpa (still surprised he likes DR and Byakuya, not saying that’s bad just surprising). He also asked how I pronounce my name since “Ari” is a real name ‘n’ all, and was surprised when I said it’s a masculine name (He then saw the thing on my lanyard saying “agender” and then something finally clicked in his head)

Also, I should mention that somehow all the guys (and Masae) had come to this really funny conclusion that I’m MUCH taller than I am. Like, around 5′10 or something because they thought I was Bran’s height, and even then they thought he was TALLER. Like, Jon was laughing when we tried to get that picture of him resting his arms on my head saying “I don’t want to crush her!” Other than that there was also me, Trev, and Dharc recording a board of Mario Party 3, and I swear that game is meant to induce rage. Like, Dharc was having horrible luck in general and I basically turned into Jon in terms of pure anger (and I try not to get mad at games). Overall, Momocon was the BEST con I’ve been to, got to meet some awesome people, get some awesome reactions from TRG, and I really hope I get to go back!

p5 thoughts

After having drawn so much fanart of p5 (most of it being Yusuke) before the game even came out, even with my hype when I started playing on the release date, I only FINALLY finished persona 5 OTL

Below will be my mini-review and thoughts on the game?? spoilers are gonna here on the entire game

Total playtime - 87 hours 40 minutes

OK this is gonna be disorganized mess but i will try to be .. not messy Story: The story unfortunately was very weak :(  Like the game had an AMAZING start and it was tackling really important issues. I really started to care about Ryuji and Ann and their goals. Then Yusuke joins and I thought the game was just heading in perfect direction. Then I felt off during Kaneshiro’s arc as Makoto did not really feel .. really into the whole PT thing?? sorry Makoto fans i love her but she felt rly overrated... anyway Futaba’s arc no doubt was my favorite but then the game really started falling apart. like lets not talk about the whole series of events that were Morgana leaving the team that was straight up BAD. the pacing picked up a bit for the Casino dungeon and it was really intense then its Shido and thing kinda... fell back into this weird pacing ... Ah yes, let’s just wait 20 days to see if Shido has a change of heart or we die. After that the pacing was still all over the place then the huge plottwist happens. I knew about it but still liked it! The last arc had on point emotions and feels so it felt like a good ending to the game.  SEVERE PACING ISSUES KILL THE GAME FOR ME THOUGH.   I get that they still wanted the calendar system but honestly i dont think it worked any huge favors for the game . .. anyway yeah the game started amazing then dropped close to death then picked up again but not as good as the beginning Characters: I have not managed to finish a lot of confidants so near the end the parts where confidants help out it was .. very lacking lol .. . if that part wasnt so depended on the confidants that you have finished.... But overall the characters were good. Pacing of the story and the story itself did not do any justice to them I think and it feels bad bc everyone had so much potential but having a big cast it was obvious that not everyone was getting the attention they deserved Ryuji - good bro and I loved him but the middle part of the game and the constant “we gotta get the girls!” moments were so . . ugh ...  confidant rank and beginning of game ryuji was absolute best though Ann - same goes for her as with ryuji that the beginning of the game was best characterization moment for her. I liked her a lot and she’s pretty bro for female heroine! but the constant fanservice kills me guys Morgana - boy did i dislike morgana for the most of the game. he really felt like teddie 2.0 at times and i just did not have a lot motivation to like him. Last arc of the game tho?? i love morgana??? i wanna cry tbh those parts near the end really resonated with me so my final verdict is that i like morgana a lot now Yusuke - I LOVE THIS BOY. while i get the beef that people have with his recruitment arc (the whole nude modeling thing) I thought it was ok since my interpretation is that he was just pissed and really needed that inspiration he found in ann but idk. otherwise his arc was good but goddamn fuck you atlus for continuously treating him like a weirdo?? PT is supposed to be a gang of misfits and yet even the teammates keep treating him like a weirdo. . that was just really bad like come on  let me kiss yusuke and feed him. also will never forgive atlus for not letting yusuke move into leblanc. He’s a very good character and very level-headed so i love him sm. he has really great moments Makoto - I liked her a lot! i do think she’s a bit overrated and that she doesn’t fit well with PT but I think that’s just the issue with Atlus pacing of the story, because her issues during her recruitment were really good (as in i did feel like she would fit into PT well) Futaba - I LOVE THIS GIRL!! I played with jpn dub which I think does much better justice to her characterization. Her entire arc was so so good and I felt like she was a really solid character going through growth. her confidant was very very good. She has a lot of funny moments and I love her antics with Yusuke. they are the blessed characters of this game. too good for this game. Haru - love her too!!!! she was so nice and sweet but damn atlus did not do her justice at all. she is the “last” party member to join and it is so sad she does not get a lof interaction with PT. like I wish PT interacted with her somehow throughout the game before she joins, be it like help her out sometimes or something bc they go to same school so when she joins later the team dynamic can easily accept her. Goro - we dont talk about goro jk but honestly he was handled bad. his link was automatic and I get why but his initial personality just makes me hate him a lot. he was cool as a party member but not for long. I expect him to appear in spinoffs bc wtf was that ending for him goddamn atlus. i like a lot his potential as a character but everything else? hate Sae was for me quite funny during the interrogation (when you start the confidant parts) but after her casino her involvement in the story I really ended up liking Sae. she’s good Also gonna mention Sojiro bc i love that coffee dad. His dynamic with Futaba and protagonist was extremely good!!! such a solid family. I loved that he finds out the truth and how he handled it. love u sojiro Speaking of protagonist, I really really really wish atlus would ease up on the “silent protagonist” a bit more. for a game as huge as this, the silence does not do justice to the protagonist. idk i just wish there would have been a bit more voice to him and solid characterization other than some off-hand comments that imply the underlying personality. i get the whole “self-insert” part but it sucks stop putting it in games Overall character summary: pacing sucked so characterization suffered a lot. a lot of characters don’t get their time to shine and while I love them a lot it really sucks to see how they were treated. Pacing ruined a lot of things including team dynamic. Palaces: (in chronological order) Kamoshida/Castle - IT SUCKED I HATE IT. being the first freaking dungeon it sure was extremely hard and damn long. also not knowing about the calling car system really hurt lmao. i just hate this dungeon and i got stuck there a lot too Madarame/Art Museum - THE BEST ONE! Honestly I think it is the only palace that really did feel like a heist! It is a very beautiful palace and im probably also biased bc its Yusuke’s arc but this palace was legit fun to get through. Kaneshiro/Bank - it was ok, good music. i don’t really feel much for it and I was just mostly annoyed how long the vault part was. Futaba/Pyramid - I loved it  a lot too! 10/10 music I had a lot of annoyances with coffin shadows and the puzzles for a bit but overall the music and aesthetics really made the palace work well with the story Okumura/Spaceship - we don’t talk about the “lunch break” parts.... overall it was ok and I liked its aesthetic. also the implications about the workers there was good sad material. Sae/Casino - 10/10 music. overall i disliked it a lot bc some of the parts really dragged and I hated gambling in there to progress. Shido/Ship - 10/10 music. overall i liked it / it was ok. the mouse mechanic was a bit fun, the last part being ... 3 boss fights in a row without saving was sure something. 10/10 creepy outside aesthetic of sunken city. Mementos Depths - not to be confused w/ p3/4 style dungeon we know as mementos (which were pretty much mindless fun to progress thru), the depths was ... so good. mostly for the creepy aesthetic 10/10 would suffer again. the music track Freedom and Security, that plays during goro’s bad end credits, plays as the theme for this dungeon and jeez did it make me feel so emo. the parts where you can talk to locked up people who are apathetic to the world just gave me depression and i loved it.. . i didnt really like the later part of it (when tokyo merges with mementos) To rank the palaces overall its:  Art museum > Mementos Depths > Pyramid >> Ruse Cruise > Spaceship > Casino > Bank >>>>>> Castle Gameplay mechanics were very solid and fun. Movement a bit could be clunky (or that’s what i felt like) and stealth mechanic in dungeons was ok. The gameplay has A LOT of attention to detail and i appreciated it a lot. UI was cluttered but it worked and was quite Aesthetic. I think the game would have benefited if the stats weren’t so important to the social aspect or if the calendar system was revamped. Final boss imo was not as bad as P4 but still ... sucked. P3′s final boss fight is still ultimately my favorite. P5 comes close but once again, pacing issues. Protagonist summoning freaking Satanael was cool af though. Honestly my big issue with P5 was the PACING that made the story and characters suck a lot of times but overall the game was extremely solid and memorable.  Of the persona entries i played i think P5 is special so I can’t really rank it. I am really attached to the game despite its heavy flaws that kill me. P3 and P2 are still quite my favorites but P5 is like really close to them so I guess it’s a fave too i love those phantom thieves
