ohh i do wanna know more about singapore’s education! i have an overseas friend currently studying architecture in nyp i believe! and she’s sooooo stressed and never has much time anymore and have basically isolated herself except for her bf and online :(( it’s really stressful for her in architecture but i hope you’re having fun in your current diploma! since your internship starts next month, you have a company assigned (?) for you already, right? not too sure but my friend told me she’s in the 2nd semester so hers has not been assigned yett
oh? your friend is also in nyp? I’m also in nyp!
well, they don’t assign the company to us. we have to email to company and get interviewed then from there we’ll see if we can get in or not. if you can’t then you just have to keep trying with other companies🙃
hmm, well. Singapore education system is quite simple (to a local) but they have changed since I graduated from secondary school💀
sit back, it’s gonna be a long read😪
we have preschool:
nursery then kindergarten. just simple stuff. we also have homework there but it’s simple.
they also have religious kindergartens here for Muslims who want to enrol their kids into it. I was in one but that school went bankrupt 💀 so I went to a normal kindergarten after that.
then we have primary school:
(7-12 years old) primary 1 to primary 6
At P6, PSLE which is like a major exam for you to get into secondary school. it used to follow grading of like points. let’s say you get A then it will be the range of like 75-90. hence, some people can have until 200 aggregate.
But they are changing it to if you have A, you get 1 point so the lowest you can get is 6 points as there is only 6 subjects you’ll learn in primary school.
secondary school:
(13-17/18 years old) secondary 1-4 or 5.
based on my time for secondary school, we are split into 3 ‘categories’ Express, Normal Academic (NA) and Normal Technical (NT). Express is usually for the fast-paced learners and those who got high scores for PSLE. NA is just for the normal ones scores. NT is for the slower ones. what we usually say, don’t quote me on this Singaporeans who were in NT🙏🏻
It also depends on like your score that you got for PSLE and also on the school’s PSLE range for last year. They usually give like a booklet of the school’s past aggregate scores that students enrolled in. like legit a range.
For example, let’s say I have score of 160 (ehem I did actually get that. I was not smart in school) then you look through the booklet and you see the lowest aggregate score for Express is 180. oops, you can go in Express. so you look at NA and the lowest 140. yay, you can go into that school as an NA student. Overall, I think you can fill up your list to 6 schools. 1 being the most you wanna go in.
At Sec 1-2, you’ll be learning everything. From doing Home Economics (cooking basically) to Design and Technology(DNT) and Art. Science is just science. You learn history, geography and social studies.
At Sec 3, you’ll split classes based on which elective you’d like. There is Additional Math (A Math), Principles of Accounting (POA), Art, DNT and Home Economics. You can choose Biology, Chemistry, Physics. There is options of taking Purely just one science subject. There is also combined science where you take Bio + Chem or Physics + Chem or Physics + Bio. Oh and you can also pick to do either Geography or History but have to take Social Studies along with it as it is a must.
At Sec 4, we have ‘N’ Levels. this is mainly for the NA and NT students only. For Express, they have ‘O’ Levels. After this, they can choose to go ITE or Polytechnic (based on your scores)
For NA Students, if you do well in your ‘N’ Levels and get a score lower than 11 points. You can go direct to polytechnic. If not then ITE or move forward to Sec 5 where you basically just study for another year and then do ‘O’ Levels bc you’ll be learning what the Express learnt just a year later.
as far as I know now, I think they are like abolishing this whole Express, NA and NT thing and just putting everyone with the same learning speed and interest into one study group. i have zero idea about this since i already graduated a long time ago before this thing happened. my sister’s age group is like getting experimented on.
If you go ITE:
no age range. I was like 18-19 when I went ITE🙃
if you didn’t do well, you have to go through ITE. Mostly are NA and NT. idk about Express students though🤔 my Express friend went to Polytechnic straight so idk.
there are 3 ITE Colleges; East, West and Central.
the locals here usually say if you go ITE that means you aren’t good at studying or you’re lazy. However, that doesn’t essentially mean it. Maybe you didn’t do well in secondary school and are wanting to do better for a change so you do better in ITE then further your studies.
there are actually a lot diplomas in ITE. Business Schools, Art Schools, Social Service, Beauty and Wellness. You even have the option to do Work & Study. Basically, you get a job and also study at the same time. So like basically college💀
there is a nitec and higher nitec. nitec is basically 4 years, like starting from the bottom cause you’re fresh out of secondary school as an NA or NT student. Higher Nitec is usually for Sec 5 students or if you do well but not well enough to go directly to Polytechnic after ‘N’ Levels (I believe so💀)
For Polytechnic (or as I call it poly):
again no age range. I am literally like 22 and in poly when everyone in my class are like 19-20 years old. I am also 1 out of the 2 other 02’liner in the class. The rest are 03, 04 and 05 liners. Mostly 05 liners💀
besides the route of directly going to poly, you can also go from ITE to poly. it’s a longer route but it works. That’s what I did.
Many diplomas and various schools. Like design and other ones.
There is 5 polytechnics; Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Republic Polytechnic.
If you go from NA to Poly, it’s called ‘Polytechnic Foundation Programme’ (PFP, for short). This will be 1 year of just learning basic stuff about your course. After that, you move onto Year 1. Total you will have 4 years in poly
For normal umm, times. It’s 3 years of poly. Year 1-2 is just studying, learning about your course. Year 3 consists of internship and final year project (FYP). Each is 6 months. Then you graduate.
For internship there is two groups, the lecturers or teachers split your cohort into 2. There is Cohort A and Cohort B. If you’re in A, you’ll go to internship first for 6 months before coming back and doing your FYP. As Cohort A is doing their FYP, Cohort B will go out for their internship as they did their FYP first.
After all of this, yay graduation!!!
You can also further your studies 😍 but I’m not doing that. I am done.
We still have universities🧍🏻‍♀️ oh and you can also go private schools but I am not explaining that💀 too complicated and I didn’t go to a private school besides the kindergarten I went to.
we also have SOTA/NAFA/LASALLE – art school/performing arts or anything art related.
and many more🧍🏻‍♀️ I can’t even think of anymore. I tried my best to explain it but good lord, there is a lot. It’s even worse because they decided to change the educational system when I already graduated. Now, I really could say “back in my day, this was like this.” MAN IM OLD💀

First Love - First Broken Heart - And Funny Enough, My First Post
aigh
Tumblr media
Okay so I decide to share my story about how I fall in love for the first time. It was back at 6th grade, around 2010 maybe? So I used to have a childhood friends, let’s call them Aaron and Aiden (twins). They’re like a year older from me and we used to play together all the time since we’re neighbor and we have a pretty close balcony on the second floor, close enough for us to play together. It was back when I’m still in kindergarten, and when I moved, I lost contact with them even though they still stay at the same house.
Fast forward to 6th grade, I kinda stumble upon Aiden in front of my classroom. Turns out my current class room used to be his when he is still in elementary school. At first I don’t really think about love and romance you know. I learn about them in manga and Taylor Swift “Love Story” track but I have zero interest in boys. And it doesn’t help that I kind of a tomboy? As in I like to play soccer and I enjoy video games such as GTA, Dinasty Warrior, DOTA, Naruto, and many more. I am not really the girly girl type.
But as time pass, I kinda start to notice him. I always steal a glance at him when he pass by my classroom. And then one day, suddenly, I start to have this strange sensation in my heart when I see him. I get shy, and I feel funny in my stomach when I meet him. I never really care about my appearance before but since then, I try to be more “presentable” whenever he is around.
Summer holiday come, and my dad tells me that he plan to take me and my mom to Japan. We are going to visit there with a bunch of my dad friends. Turns out, his parents are kinda close with my dad and they are also coming. When I know about that, I kinda panicked, but kinda happy at the same time? But I still did not realize that I like Aiden.
I thank God because there are other kids that joins the group. Because I am really awkward back then. I really enjoy my time there. And the best part is that I get to know him better. And he always talks and joke around with me. I am also close with Aaron, but Aaron is kind of a prankster while Aiden is more calmer and mature. Oh I forgot to mention that they are in fact Identical, but Aiden wear glasses while Aaron don’t.
Aiden always take care of my while Aaron always tease me. Like stealing my snacks, or saying that I’m fat (well I am kinda fat back then). I remember that Aiden is not that brave since he really dislike riding a jet coaster while me on the other hand really enjoy extreme rides. I also remember that he tried to win a plushie for me at the claw machine but he ended up always failing and then I kinda played it and win a plushie for him instead.
I have many memories of him back in Japan, but one particular one that makes me realize that I fall in love with him is the one in Singapore. So after exploring Japan, the group decide to extend the holiday and visit Singapore. I don’t mind since I do enjoy traveling. We decide to visit Universal Studio. And even though I enjoy extreme rides, I really dislike anything that is scary and I really hate clowns or even costumes (even if its barney, minions, mickey). I dreaded them. But all of my friends decide that they want to play The Mummy. I don’t mind the roller coaster part but I do mind the statues, and the scary thing that they decorate the rides with.
When I decide to chicken out and wait instead, suddenly Aiden grab my hand and pull me close to him
“You know that I’m a coward with this kind of rides, can you accompany me and sit beside me so that I’m not scared?”
I remember looking at him confused because clearly, right now, I am more scared than him, but he give me this crooked smile. It’s really warm. And sweet. I remember my heart starts to beat really fast and I can feel the funny feelings again in my stomach.
“But I am more scared than you, I mean I can’t even bear to wait in line with all those scary statues and image”
“Well you have me. I’ll stay right beside you, but you have to promise me that you will sit with me on the ride and you will not laugh whenever I got scared”
I nod at him and just let him grab me by the hand and lead me inside. The whole hour in that waiting line, he let me grab on to him. And even in the rides, he cover my eyes whenever there’s something scary or nasty are going to show up despite he, himself not enjoying the ride at all.
At that moment, I realize that I do fall in love with him.
Holiday ends, and school starts. I save all of my memories of him in my phone. We even befriending each other on Facebook. I enter Junior High and finally I can saw him more often (elementary and junior have a different lunch break schedule). And the fact that whenever we passes each other, he will either give me a pat on my head or a high five. We become more closer each day, he even teach me how to play guitar at some point. And even though we are close, I have no intention of confessing to him. Since I already enjoy spending my time with him like that.
Then Valentine Day come. He come for me and asked for my help. Turns out he like this senior, let’s call her Nova. She is a beauty indeed. I can feel a pang in y heart when he said that he really likes her. I told him that maybe he should buy her flowers and chocolate, I mean, that’s what I know from all the manga I read. He said thanks and do exactly that. But turns out that Aiden is not her type. And she throw it away when he gives the flowers and chocolate to her. He told me later at the same day and gives me the chocolate that Nova throw away. I’m sad for him and at that time I remember hating Nova since she treat him that way.
I can only smile and hear him ranting about how he feels about Nova and her boyfriend that apparently is a jerk. A few months after that, I don’t really have any meaningful moments with Aiden because I got busy with my friends and clubs. I don’t know why but after so long, I decide to share my feelings with my group of friends, and oh boy how that was one of my biggest mistake I ever made.
The next day, somehow the whole school knows that I have feelings for Aiden. I am really shocked. Apparently one of my friend decide to tell her boyfriend and her boyfriend tell his friends and yada yada yada you know how it goes.
And Aiden also knows. I remember feeling heartbroken when He saw me at the corridors and decide to turn and walk away from me instead of giving me high five or a pat. And I remember Aaron can only give me a sad smile and follow him.
After that he avoid me at all cost like I’m some kind of a virus. I got really sad and kind of depressed at that time. But I try to understand him. I mean, I’m not really girlfriend material you know.
But suddenly one day Aaron visit me in my classroom. I am confused but I decide to just talk to him to see what he need.
“I come here to apologize about Aiden. He did not mean any harm, but he’s just confused and embarrassed. He is mad at himself because he did not know that you like him and he feels like he lead you on. He is also mad that he choose to tell you about Nova without knowing how you feel”
I just keep silent the whole time and nod a little. I remember saying that it’s okay and I understand his perspective. I’m just sad that He avoid me. I don’t expect him to like me the same way, but him avoiding me is too much for me.
I also remember Aaron gives me a smile and a pat on my head and walk away. And at that very moment I feel like I want to cry but I can’t. All I can do is stare at his back. Aaron looks too much like Aiden and the fact that he is the one that apologize to me instead of Aiden hurt more. Because then I can’t meet Aiden.
I still like him even tho my second year in Junior High I move to another city, to my mom hometown.  I still like him until I finally fall in love with someone else in High School (11th grade).
But I do meet him once back in high school. And I remember the funny feeling is still there. And we kind of have this awkward handshake and smile. We don’t really talk. We just, smile and share a little chit chat here and there about university. He told me that Aaron and him plans to go to America to study. I just wish him luck and pray inside my heart to wish him all the best.
Even though it is not really a happy ending but I do learn a lot from my first experience with love.
I remember wishing that I can tell him my feelings myself instead of him knowing from someone else. And I do practice this because after that every time I like someone or have feelings for them I tell them.
I also learn that sometimes someone come into your life just to teach you and introduce you to love and that is not a bad thing.

Brian Alexander Dahlems
1993 Born in Germany, left to Singapore at 13 Outgrowing Germany
I was born in one culture, the German culture. And when I came to Singapore I basically just finished my childhood. I wasn’t so attached to school, my friends. I was just getting aware of like “ah this is the place I live at!” That’s the time when we moved to Singapore. It was a crucial time.
13 in 2006 it is exactly the right time to move.
Was not so attached to anything, was just getting aware of others, places and people. It was the time I was figuring out "Who am I”
I wasn’t really happy in Germany and so I was really happy to come to Singapore to see something new. That’s when I got to know the international culture in Singapore which I find is completely different to the Singaporean culture itself.
Tumblr media
Do you like Singaporean culture?
I grew up in this international environment in my school. With these kids but not many Singaporeans. Beside that, in where I stayed in Bukit Timah, I got to know some people around the neighbourhood and got to know the real Singapore as well. I got to meet the people who goes to Hawker for breakfast!
For the international culture it is always entered around the city district, the tourist areas. We are always in Sentosa and East coast, I doubt any of my classmates has seen Woodlands area nor Boon Lay or Choa Chu Kang area because there is nothing for them to see there. That’s the other part of Singapore which I appreciate, next to the whole touristy side.
Tumblr media
Do you feel like you fit into the Singaporean culture more or the International/German culture? Generally the Asian people would look up to white people, as a upper class or a gem...
When I’m in the Singaporean Culture itself I’m quickly perceived as I come from the international culture in Singapore. Which is good because I want to be associated to “Ahh he is coming from the German culture” “Oh he is just a tourist” I don’t want to be seen as, I rather be seen as “Oh yeah he lives in Singapore even though in a different social group.” I would rather have that because I feel more at home at that, even though I am not quickly accepted in that actual Singaporean culture. That takes a little bit longer, more time to get used to an Ang Moh.
When he first came to Singapore in 2006, they are still new to accepting foreign people.
Now everyone is from everywhere.
I realised a couple of days ago when I’m staying in a HDB with a friend, people who were at the hawker they were looking, as if I took the wrong bus or something, or "why is he here?!” Now after a couple of days they realised that I must be staying somewhere nearby, like it’s nothing special anymore. They just get used to you after 2-3days.
How do you feel when people look into your Nationality?
I wouldn’t be embarrassed. I’m annoyed if someone looks at me and thinks “Ah! German!”
Because that annoys me a lot, even in Germany! I only lived in Germany until I was 13. I’m almost twice that age now. I was not defined as a proper German since I left the country at 13.
By now half my life, I’m annoyed by Germany. That’s why I’m so happy about my parents wanting to go overseas because they have always wanted to live abroad, especially my dad.
That’s why my parents gave me my double name as well. My full name is Brian Alexander Dahlems. Which is one English one German. If I ever decide “Oh I want to be German” I could just be Alexander and I could fit into the German community.
Tumblr media
Alexander (pronounced “ Ah-Lex-Xan-Der” ) is a very common name in Germany. It is nothing special, where else “Brian”? Even in Germany people would regularly ask me “Oh are you British? Or American? Or half something”  That’s when I can always tell them “Ah, I am from Germany but not really from Germany. It is complicated.” It is always a very good ice breaker in a conversation. So when people asked “Ah where are you from? America or something” I would say “No I come from Germany but I just came from this small city” “Ah, but you never lived overseas” “Ah, actually I lived in Singapore for 7 years but that has nothing got to do with my name.” And thats how the conversation always starts.
“Dahlems” is also very german, I would rather drop that too. My ultimate goal is when they get introduced to me, I don’t want them to have any stereotypical ideas about me. Even with the name “Brian” I can be seen as American, British, just want to be a well rounded international person. I don’t like people connecting me to some stereotype.
What’s a stereotype about German people that you can think of?
I think the stereotype about Germany is that logical, on time, I follow the rules (“I stop at the red light!” Even when there are no cars around) Germany put rules in place so that they don’t have to think. That makes life easier for them, sometimes it’s good but it keeps them from changing to improve themselves. Which is really stupid, that’s why I also decided in my studies I don’t want to go into car industry for example. Because every mechanic engineer wants to go into the car industry. The car industry in Germany you have no more creativity, you have no more problems to solve with creativity. I want to be able to say “Ah I can find another solution to solve this problem.” Everything has rules now, by the books, to be regulated, etc. I find this absolutely annoying.
I also heard another stereotypes that Germans have which are not true at all. Not all Germans drink beer all the time and eat sausage all day.
Especially the punctuality thing, I have not seen it. I’m punctual but I have never met a German that is punctual. It could be a character trait that someone would have, but that’s not the stereotype.
There is a term called “Verplant” (Pronounced “Fla-Plan”) They make too many plans so they get mixed up with their schedule. They will say yes to making plans, will confirm, and then half an hour before the scheduled plan they will cancel because they have made a different plan. And they didn’t know, they forgot about it.
A lot of times I can see that a lot of people are “Verplant” and on the other side people are always looking for an upgrade. They would say that they would want to come along, but as soon as they find something that fits them better they don’t mind cancelling on you. They don’t stay true to their words. So that’s Germans to you.
What’s your current advantage right now?
No one in Singapore ever expects me to fit in. Because people say “Brian he does stuff differently because he learns differently.” I realised I don’t need to fit into a group. I’m fine being the odd one out. That helped me in Singapore because here it can be seen as something positive. Being the odd one out.
In Germany it is very negative. Singapore helped me to build this confidence in myself.
I was a different person in Germany, I was not confident at all, although I was individualistic. My parents raised me to be myself first, that gave me a lot of problems in Germany because I could not fit into any group. I got picked on, bullied, I had no friends in Germany.
Tumblr media
They mock me, they would have inside jokes that I can’t be a part of because most of the kids have playstation, computer games, they always stayed in play computer games sometimes together. I was the kid where as soon as the suns comes up, I’m outside, cycling or some outdoors activity. I never joined in with them of course and therefore there isn’t much connection with the kids.
All of a sudden when I came here within half a year, I was the coolest kid because I was the odd one out, which I never thought it would happen! It’s not like I am the cool kid instead of everyone else, everyone in my class was different. So we all had something to share to learn from each other.
What if’s possibilities.
If I would have known that if I have to go back to Germany for my education, I would have done the same school system. I wouldn’t have gone into the International school system that I did. I had a chance in 7th grade to go to the international school system or to stay in the German system. If I would have known then that I would go back to Germany to go study at a university I would have stayed in the German system. Because I would have learn everything in German I wouldn’t have had to improve my German once I come back. I had a bit of struggle, luckily my course is very heavy on mathematics. Still, I realise that the German that I studied coming back from Singapore was all based on poetries and literatures. It wasn’t focused on the daily communication like going to the supermarket, getting food, I lost all of that in 7 years because I never practiced. I would have practice this kind of conversational German if I would have stayed in the German system too.
I only had 3 German classmates out of all 60 of our age range. Everyone spoke something different. My dad was the administration manager of the German International School, that’s why I could go into that school.
Tumblr media
Where do you feel most at home?
I know that I definitely don’t belong in the German culture and I’m not a true part of the Singaporean culture. I feel most at home just being in the International culture. Like being in New York example it’s very big and vast. So I would feel at home almost anywhere as long it’s like a bigger city with an international surrounding. It’s good because I am not planning to settle down yet. I have a chance to go out in the world and find my culture that are different.
What is your plan for the next 5 years?
Third culture kids plan differently. We plan with the entire world within you.
In 5 years I want to stay in Singapore for 5 years and I want to be in another country that I have chosen as I want to speak one more language. It’s really in no connection to what Germans would say or a Singaporean would say, rig
Why do you not want to live where you are right now?
Because people here have their certain way of life, you go to kindergarten, school, high school, then you go uni, get apprenticeship, get a girlfriend, you get married, get a house, you have a job, you work in that, and then you finish. For the people who are living here and want to live here seem so straight forward. Since I throw something odd in these mix, it’s like “Hey! Lets have a multi cultural relationship of multi cultural people with each one of us living in completely different parts of the world, and we also want to leave the country and speak 2 languages as mother tongue which puts more things into my head. There’s so many more open doors." So I am afraid of closing the right ones, and closing the wrong ones.
Tumblr media
I thought by the time I am 26 I would have left Germany. For GOOD. And that I will be starting for my further education. I have made a good start but it seems small in comparison to what I intended I’m not comparing myself to others but I am setting my own standards.

How Can Parents Help During Children Treatment
Like most parents, we welcomed our first brand new born with all excitement and enthusiasm. We did the regular things parents-to-be do - getting all set a nursery with decorations, furniture, toys and clothing. We read novels and moved to classes about the best way to raise the boy at his first calendar year. Very little did people know none of the would educate us to manage exactly what lay ahead. Vincent was born without problems in the US full-time. We attracted him back to Singapore if he was 10 weeks old. Our purpose was to bring him up in a multi ethnic and multi lingual environment. However, when he had been three months' old, Vincent turned into a normal guest into the doctor's clinic. He was diagnosed with spleen and liver enlargements that required per week, monthly then half a lever work blood evaluations. His receptor was 800+ as the kid ought to be below 50. His receptor level stabilized once he switched three. At 14 weeks', he got an infection from a make-up BCG injection. This required fundamental anesthetization and operation to both remove the pustule. At two, a doctor discovered that Vincent had a heart murmur. Thankfully, it was a benign murmur. Initially, Vincent dropped over a roadside curve which required a few stitches above his right eye brow. In the beginning, he'd high fever for two successive times and must be admitted into hospital. In between, there clearly were the common influenza and colds.I visualize many parents have gone through similar scenarios. However, these are not the challenges that confronted our faith, analyzed our strength, and improved the course of their lives. Until eventually we observed that he had been different at a year and half an hour, Vincent'd met all milestones. He'd no language. This meant he did not complete a single comprehensible word. He'd not call Mum or Dad. The doctor advised us not to worry as boys develop language skills after. We became very stressed if he did not have any vocabulary at a couple of yearsold. This began another flow of consultation with all specialists in ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), neurology, psychology, and psychiatry. It took us to search, timetable and complete the evaluation. Vincent's hearing was tested. Even the neurologist couldn't get anything strange in your visual test and also called us into some psychologist. The session with all the psychologist has been disastrous. She had been than one hour for its consultation. Vincent lost patience wet and waiting his trousers during the evaluation, nevertheless he'd been toilet trained. The psychologist prescribed him having a"conduct Illness". This brought disbelief and confusion to people. The only positive outcome was a summary of recommended colleges which could accept kids like Vincent. We then sought advice out of a renowned psychiatrist. I still vividly remember the assembly in excess of Vincent's identification: Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified (PDD NOS). The health care provider couldn't pin point the cause although in ayman's term, Vincent was delayed in development. The psychiatrist's response that Vincent may well not ever be able to live a completely unaffiliated life throw a dark shadow across the family. In among your many tests, we managed to register Vincent into an exclusive faculty using a special training program starting at age three. This marked the beginning of lasting therapeutic and learning programs for Vincent. To augment the training of language, Vincent has been introduced to sign language and so were that the parents. This had been one among the happiest occasions to hear Vincent telephone out'Mum' and'father' at age of 4 weeks and three years. However his language progressed from one word level at comparative time, the speed of education . The speech pathologist advised he wanted to improve his gross and fine motor skills before language learning could accelerate. At the robust recommendation of their teachers and specialists, we proceeded straight back to US if Vincent was five. This began a brand new chapter of lifetime for both Vincent and the family. Throughout testimonials, we were blessed to come across a pediatrician who specialised in children like Vincent. She'd an exhaustive test of Vincent and recognized him being a kid with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that usually appears in childhood. Vincent was with minimal imagination and common sense, also was stiff to change. He'd no eye could not examine social cues, had Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), demonstrated severe delay in communication, and had gross sensory and motor dysfunction. He exhibited symptoms of a typical unborn child, except he was not hiding in a large part. On the other hand, he had been very sociable. We commenced a series of treatments. He also attended address and occupational therapy for per year prior to the faculty might effectively manage his requirements. He chose herapeutic horseback-riding once a week and swimming two times a week. Riding served calm down him and regulate his mind while swimming improved motor abilities. He did activities for at least five years.During these five decades, we conducted Patricia Wilbarger brushing at two-hour periods to lessen sensory dysfunction, even if we were outside. At an identical moment he had been put below Auditory built-in Therapy (AIT). He paid attention with filtered tune that has been to stimulate brain function in routine audio to Mozart. Later on he had creativity to inspire. He also attended 15 interactive metronome periods to boost attention length. By the conclusion of three weeks' remedy, he could clap 1,500 occasions nonstop as well as always. We also participated a engine pro to improve his design. Even the US law welcomes public colleges to provide aid for kids with special demands. Vincent was incorporated straight into main-stream kindergarten. With restricted language, conventional kindergarten was exceptionally challenging for Vincent. He had been so disruptive and distracted that he had to be brought out of the classroom. Walking at the school hallways or frequent breaks were a daily occurrence. We had to cross our fingers beg and every day he had a superior school afternoon minus incidences. With medication and reliable support, Vincent figured out the routines and commenced choosing up language. Throughout the First Grade language test, '' he performed at 1 percent. That meant in a hundred children , '' he had been the last in language proficiency. At home we functioned with flash cards on cognitive abilities, spatial and basic theories, functions and characteristics, and also a regular follow from the teaching of their school. We also instructed him phonicstime, numbers, size, income, etc.. It had been daunting to teach him 10 cents have greater significance than 5 cents when the 10 pennies coin is significantly smaller compared to five cents. Vincent's language improved to 25 percent by Grade. He progressed it to around 50 percent from the end of 4th Grade, properly beyond some other pro's expectations.Once Vincent picked up languageshe participated in school activity with much significantly less and not as much the help of the distinctive education instructor and the education aide. The target for IEP has shifted to social interaction and communication. Socially we have been through situations compared to speech instruction. During kindergarten, neighbor's children named him idiotic and mad. Since they could not be understood by Vincent, fortunately, the name calling was only hard for us . He was invited into a birthday party by kindergarten to fourth grade. The school address therapist hailed programs for Vincent and returned together with him to coach him. We study books and also wrote Carol Gray's social stories to demonstrate that the broad social policies of behaviour for each occasion and receiving alongside. To get additional details on this please find this. He joined social-skills training in a hospital and also in the summer camp. Nothing came simple to Vincent. Everything had to be educated. He needed - and - needs - published rules and demonstrations to direct him. It had been expected that he could be in a position to implement once he gained broad base foundations. Every one of the clinics and also training dropped off when Vincent lastly produced three friends at Fifth Grade. He was invited to their birthday functions. He encouraged them back over. He made a couple more friends at sixthgrade. He claimed two of them since his friends with whom he spoke during lunchtime and played after faculty. He no longer was a target for bullies or a ranger at school. We're fortunate that Vincent reacted favorably to therapies and interventions. The illness was very delighted about the progress of Vincent. A psychological investigation showed that Vincent continues to function at the average to exceptional selection of brains. He no longer exhibited considerable discrepancy between verbal and nonverbal abilities. The doctor changed Vincent's diagnostic to Asperger Syndrome, the mildest form of this ASD, in the age of nine. After many years of struggles, we began healing Vincent much like a kid. You will find put on television time. He had an allowance to purchase his favorite toys and games. He learned just how to do laundry, use the drier, fold clothing, wash cars and dishes, sweep floors, run the vacuum cleaner, also shift light bulbs, etc.. Recently, he started out preparing his breakfast, cooking minute noodles, skillet and utilizing a knife. He desires these capabilities when he goes to faculty. We expect him to behave appropriately in public and in gatherings. He said was accountable because of his schoolwork so we ceased checking his homework reviewing with him. Maintain his own honor roster and his obligation as a student is to carry out well academically. He's studying voraciously, especially science and nonfiction books. As he isn't athletically likely, he's plumped for fencing as his only form of sport. For many years without changing, his objective is always to become Zoo Veterinarian. He is on course to meeting his fantasy. Soon after processes of rejection, blame, frustration, anger, acceptance and resolution, we have come to terms with his investigation. Even though we search for remedies that best satisfy himwe take, and the majority of the time, that he could be and that which he will eventually become. We've pledged to provide him anything ordinary kids love and we hope to execute no further compared to other children' of the calibre. We know there are more challenges before us and him however we have been convinced he'll direct a lifestyle. Inpatient treatment helps and benefits kids a lot. They've programs that make it possible for children to be dependent together by using their selves. First, the therapist assesses a young child therefore that an appropriate actions or plans will likely probably be given in line with the child's functionality and ultimately, the test made will probably be valid. The overall capability as well as also the wholeness of a kid is aided and improved with a program that is family-approach or baby friendly to make sure the kids are not going to feel nostalgic and only feel comfortable throughout the program.Since occupational treatment revolves across the increase and progress of a young child, therefore each phase is monitored for longer desired consequence. Kiddies who may benefit from occupational therapy are those who have birth injuries or premature, finding out problems or ADHD or developmental/ motor skills handicap, problems with coordination or chronic musculo-skeletal circumstances, any behavioral problems and harms or injuries. Fortunately, occupational treatment does not confine their program to these conditions; nevertheless they extend their own tasks to fine skills, socialization, neural integration, oral or motor skills, harmony , faculty performances and food aversion.Occupational therapy is vital in helping children improve and become independent at all activities they perform. Occupational therapy is not only for adults; nevertheless, it is as well decent for youngsters because they are doing all their daily pursuits and they must have such help make the task simpler to allow them to do independently. This therapy is coping on the little one's activities is it physical or emotional, and even at an simplest action like brushing, talking and eating, they supply this training for much better operation, especially kids who are experiencing trouble doing simple task together by using their very own. Such a therapy is not solely based for house pursuits but at schools because well. After each single task that's assigned to a specific baby, it's then assessed on how they perform on specific endeavor. Just another names survey, because there’s nothing like looking back at everyone you’ve ever met at 11:28 AM.
Do you know anyone with these names?
Sara: I know a Sarah from my college. She’s kind of a friend-ish? Like I’d say hi to her if we pass each other in the building but I wouldn’t get lunch with her or send her a meme. She also goes by Chloe, her second name. Gabby: Pretty common name. My girlfriend is a Gabie and I had another high school batchmate named Gaby; I also had an old friend from the wrestling fandom whose name is Gabbie. The last Gabbie also goes to UP but I’ve never met nor seen her in the four years I’ve studied there, which is still such a weird thing to me. Rochelle: My Language teacher (it’s basically a subject that taught us English grammar) in the 5th grade was a Rochelle and she was a massive bitch. She is the manifestation of small and cute but terrible, and she didn’t like me and made sure I knew it. I’m glad she aged terribly in the last few years. Alexis: Apparently my Uncle Alex’s full name is Alexis, but I didn’t know until today when I read the obituary for my grand aunt who had just passed. Aurora Summer: I have an orgmate/coursemate named Summer. She’s nice but I think she’s a little lazy and doesn’t make a good co-worker in projects.
Peyton Bianca: Also a common name, but it’s a pretty middle-class/white girl name too. I knew lots of Biancas from high school and all of them are studying in the more expensive university just beside ours. Jordan Eliana: I don’t know Elianas but close enough -  we have a current applicant for our org named Liana. Liberty: Eh, noun names like this one aren’t too common at all where I live. Meadow Cheyenne Acacia: Nah. The only Acacia I know is the name of one of the many dorms inside campus. Laurice and Jo used to live in Acacia but their applications got denied this year.  Erica: I used to ride the bus with an Ericka but it’s all very hazy - I was only in Grade 1 and I think she moved schools not long after, so I don’t have a lot of memories of her. I had a high school batchmate named Erycka but I never liked her either - just seemed too uppity and had a bit of an attitude for no reason. She used to be Gabie’s friend so when the two would hang out I would fuck off so that I didn’t have to deal with her loud ass. Chantell Shawna: Gabie has a coursemate(?) named Shauna. I don’t know her and I dunno if I’ve met her. I think I have, but I never talked to her. Suzy Maria: I can confidently tell you a good 70% of Filipino girls/women have Maria as their first names. No one uses it as their main name though; it’s usually just given to complement second names. Gretchen: Eh, I know a couple of popular personalities with this name but no one personal. Isabella: I have a second cousin named Isabella but I’ve never gotten to form a relationship with her because she was born and is being raised in Australia. Isabela is also the name of one of Gab’s sisters.
Skye: Someone I went to high school with has a kid nicknamed Sky... Skylar: ...because the kid’s whole name is Skyller. Cecily Paige: Nope but this did remind of the WWE wrestler Paige. Autumn Arielle: I went to grade school with an Aerielle. We lost touch for a bit when she had to drop out for a bit and ultimately moved schools, but we’ve since reconnected ever since she got into UP. She’s taking up journalism too. Brianna: Callo’s third name is Brianna. Her chaotic behavior on social media had pissed me off in the last few months so I cut ties with her. A little sad considering how incredibly close we were in high school, but I just have to remember how annoying she’s been and I feel ok again. Cassandra: I used to go to school with a Cassandra but she moved when we started the 1st grade, so I never actually got to talk or be close to her. Like Aerielle, it turns out she’s also in UP now and she’s in the football varsity too. I see her sometimes but given that we’ve never talked, the most we’ve given each other is a look of recognition of being in preschool together lmao. We also had a batchmate named Kassandra but she lives in Singapore now. Small, sweet, and just the nicest girl. Cassidy Sierra: Aya’s second name is Ciara, which is pretty close. Some of us say it similarly to Sierra, and others pronounce it as Sha-ra, so it varies. Cheri Shariah Savannah Greta: My sister had a batchmate named Greta and I remember her mostly because she’s the daughter of my high school’s old theatre manager/director/I never actually found out what his position was called, but basically he used to produce all of our school productions. Leandra Lauren: I went to grade school and high school with a Lauren. We were close as kids but she changed crowds in like the 6th or 7th grade and we lost touch from there. Austin Samantha: Lots of Samanthas were I’m from; it’s a fairly common middle-class name. I used to be best friends with a Sam; I had a high school batchmate named Sam; I knew someone a high school batch higher with the name; and I also currently go to college with a Sam. OH and I also have a cousin with this name hahahaha. She lives in New York but she visited the Philippines a couple of years ago and I was able to spend time with her then. Shayne: My sister’s kindergarten teacher was a Shane and all I remember is that she was really nice and motherly to my sister who did nothing in school but cry because she had bad separation anxiety. Seth: I have a cousin named Seth, but he lives in New York and I’ve never seen him. He’s the younger brother of my cousin Sam. Scott Ryan: I have a uncle with this name but I haven’t seen him since I was a little girl. He used to live with one of my aunts but I think he has since moved back to our home province. Maverick: One of our org’s alumni is a Maverick but he goes by Mawel. I’ve always thought he was intimidating so I’ve never approached nor talked to him. Dylan: My sister had a batchmated named Dylan which I think is a badass name for a girl. Anna: I had several former teachers named Anna. Two of them taught AP (social studies) and another taught us algebra. Katie: I will sometimes call Kate this, but I dunno anyone who legit goes by Katie. Jessica: Went to high school with one. Was always too boisterous and a little fake for me. She also loved to surround herself with boys as early as when we were 13 and while that’s never wrong I just never vibed with people like her. Lydia: I don’t know anyone with this name but this did remind me of the Breaking Bad character who was always a little bit annoying. Ellery Dakota Epiphany Galaxy Ariana: I think Yumi’s sister is an Ariana, but I’ll never know for sure because she always just calls her Ari. Gabriella: My girlfriend is a Gabriela. Rachel: My math teacher in Grade 1 was Ms. Rachel. I don’t have an opinion on her but I remember one time when our class was too noisy, she got way too pissed off and she spent the entire 45-minute period doing sign language to us to be petty. I never did like her after that. Amy: I go to college with an Aimee but I never get to see her on campus because her whole person screams Ateneo. I have no idea why she just didn’t enroll over there instead looooool, her boyfriend and all her friends are there and she’s always hanging out at their campus it’s so weird. My late grand-aunt Amet was also called Amy by some of her peers. Marissa: This is the second name of Kayla, someone I go to college with. Her schedule is weird though because she went on exchange in Canada two sems ago and she’s supposed to have been back a long time now, but I haven’t seen her at all. I have no idea if she’s still even in Canada or is back in the PH now and is just keeping her whereabouts on the down low. Taylor Rebecca: One of Rita’s older sister is named Rebecca but she goes by Becca. She graduated from my college last year, so I’m pretty familiar with her. We’re not close but I’ve encountered her a few times before and she’s reeeeally pretty and nice. The few times we’ve crashed at Rita’s place she had always greeted us out of familiarity from seeing us in our college building. Ashley: I had an STS class with an Ashley but I didn’t get to know her all that much. Allison: I used to have an instructor named Allison but I think she only taught so she could have extra cash because she’s also taking up her Master’s in the same college, so she wasn’t that good of a teacher. I do remember finding her pretty though. Oh and she also got into a really bad car accident in the middle of the sem and we didn’t have classes for like a month, so there’s that. Madison Abigail: My mom is named Abigail. Zachary: I have a cousin named Zachary but he mainly goes by James. Gabriel: Yep I have an orgmate with this name but we call him Gab. He’s...a bit of a character. Either you can tolerate his presence or you find him plain annoying. Used to play his music LOUD in Skywalk which annoyed the hell out of everybody. I’m still not sure what to feel about him so I just give him a nod when we see each other. Mitchell Joe: I have a friend named Jo but she’s a girl. I don’t think I know any guys named Joe. Corey Shawn: I know a friend of some of my friends is named Sean but we’ve never encountered each other. He’s into broadcasting and has done hosting gigs and I think he’s a junior jock in one of the local radio stations as well. Carly: Carley was my old internet best friend. We first found each other because we were huuuuge Stephanie McMahon fans on Tumblr a decade ago and we’d do edits and read fanfic and reblog photos of her, so a really close friendship blossomed from there. She had a rough life those days with a bit of an abusive mom (who has since passed) and I’d video chat her in the afternoon when I’d come home from school (by then she was preparing for school, since she’s from the US). After a while her schedule turned weird and she’d be offline for months at a time only to resurface for like two days then disappear again. She did this for like 3-4 years until I got tired and just stopped talking to her. She’s still my Facebook friend and she shares a lot of memes, but that’s all to it now. Carmen: I went to school with someone who had a very lengthy name and one of her names was Carmen, but she goes by Pam because she also has a Pamela in her name. She does streetdance and I was classmates with her once but we never really got to talk. Melissa: Eh, sure. Someone from high school. Lazy ass. Stephanie: The only IRL Stephanie I know is this girl who’s supposed to be enrolled this sem and is supposedly a classmate of mine in several classes, but never showed up from January through March. And now the lockdown hasn’t helped her case either. Shannon Selena: I have a cousin with this name but it’s spelled Selina. Also she goes by Bia because her other name is Bianca. Christine: Fairly common name. I know lots of Christines/Christina but I’m only close with one, who’s my orgmate and is the VP for Membership for the org, aka she’s the one in charge of recruiting new applicants for the two sems that she’s in charge of the committee. Paula: I went to grade school and high school with a Paula. She was SO painfully shy and quiet but friendly. She studies in Ateneo now but I wouldn’t know if she’s gotten extroverted in the last few years. Harmony Serenity Tessa: My prof in PR was Ma’am Tessa. One of the nicest, softest people ever who’s always down for anything. I think she’s in her 70s now but she’s definitely still kicking and doesn’t miss a single basketball and volleyball game during UAAP season. Claire: One of my very first guidance counselors was Ms. Claire. I remember her being motherly and she was also the counselor that intervened when I had a fight with one student in third grade that was big enough for both of us to land in the guidance office heh. Ruby Rhiannon Harper Riley Brandon Brayden Mystery Noelle: I vaguely remember going to school with a Noelle in kinder but she only stuck around the school for 1-2 years so I have no memories of her whatsoever. Destiny Darcy Dianne: Went to kinder, grade school, and high school with a Dianne. She was quiet for most of the years but she had a really blooming glow-up in high school, where she was part of the popular clique. Super smart and she’s now in business school in UP; also a terrific dancer. Felicity Grace: I have a grand-aunt named Grace. She’s very sweet and funny and is doting towards her grandkids and her grandnieces and nephews, but she and her sisters have notorious track records in the family for having a bit of an attitude and/or for making scenes, and she’s the pettiest of them all given that she’s the youngest. Despite that, all in all I have a soft spot for her. Hannah: One of my best friends in UP. We first met when she and Macy (my old high school friend) transferred to UPD from UPLB, but in the end Hannah and I ended up becoming closer friends because Macy has since struggled to adjust to the transfer and has pushed people away in the process, including me. ANYWAY I’m glad I was introduced to Hannah because she’s one of the most hilarious people I’ve ever met. She’s also insanely talented and a hell of a performer. I’ll miss her the most when I have to graduate. Kayla: That girl who went on an exchange program in Canada that I mentioned earlier mainly goes by Kayla. I remember her notably because she’s the first EVER person I talked to when I got officially enrolled in UP - we were seated together in the welcoming assembly for freshies back in 2016. It was nothing more than a random encounter though and we didn’t end up becoming close after that. Liam: My cousin Seth is also named Liam. Morgan Natasha: I went to school with a Natasha but we all called her Tashie. She had a bit of a larger build than the rest of us which made her look domineering, but she’s really nice and is a big softie if you get to know her. She posts workout videos from time to time and has since lost a lot of weight in college. Nathan Olivia: My future daughter loljk Bailey Emily Amanda: I have an orgmate named Amanda. She’s mostly shy and reserved and I haven’t really gotten the chance to know her since she’s quiet and always has to head home earlier than the rest of us. Addison Adrienne: An old classmate from high school has had her third kid that she named Adrienne. Molly Siona: I don’t know Sionas but I do know a Fiona, heh. Emerald Chelsea: Yeah Chelsea was one of my close friends in high school. We don’t talk these days but we’ll sometimes react on each other’s posts on Twitter or Facebook which is enough for me. We used to have parties and drinking sessions at her family’s gazebo behind her house, so even though we’ve mostly lost touch I’ll always have fond memories of her. Naomi Bethany: A very very very VERY old mutual on Tumblr had this name but we mostly called her Beth. She lives in the UK and I remember her being a CM Punk fan. Had unique eyebrows but was super pretty and she used to post webcam selfies all the time. Brittany Hope: Someone I went to kindergarten with had Hope as a middle name but she went by Maezelle. Super blurry memories of her as we were never close, but I remember her specifically for her teeth lmao - she had some cavities as a kid so she had a bunch of silver teeth. OK just checked Facebook and it turns out she lives in California now, as do most of my batchmates who migrated to the States as kids. Joy: I know several people who have Joy as a middle name but don’t go by it, like high school batchmates named AJ and CJ. Jade Aaron: Old friend from high school. Like Chelsea, he was a part of our friend group. He studies in UP too and we’ll say hi and hug when we see each other, but we aren’t personally close. Andrew: Coursemate, classmate, orgmate, groupmate in several projects, and now my thesis partner. At first I found him annoying and a bit too invasive and extroverted for my liking, but I gave him a chance and he’s turned out to be a really amazing, loyal, supportive friend. He’s an extremely talented writer, singer, performer, host, and radio jock. Wimpy drinker though haaaah. James: I have a cousin named James. He lives with his family in Vietnam and since his dad is from New Zealand, he’s picked up a bit of an accent as well. Jonathon Zachariah Malachi Victoria: I had a classmate in a polsci elective with this name, but I called her Jillian during that time cos it’s her first name. Judging from social media posts, she mainly goes by JV. Solomon Sorin Celia Heather: Went to high school with a Heather and is actually attending the same course as Jillian ^ in UP now. We were quite close in high school and she used to confide in me about relationship issues, back when she was seeing someone who had plans of transitioning. Heather’s parents were very strict against the idea and went to great lengths to forbid her from seeing him, so yeah that’s what she would rant to me late into the night about. We also bonded over One Direction and Joe Sugg for a time, and those days were a blast. She also got me to be in a Twitter DM thread with Caspar Lee for my 16th birthday which was a HELLUVA SURPRISE lmao. I’ve never forgotten those days with her and I’ll always remember her fondly even though we never talk anymore. Ivy: My prof in feature writing was named Ivy. She’s... a meh instructor at best. She loved telling HER stories and HER experiences and narrating HER interviews with famous people, politicians, celebrities, athletes, etc. but she left a few lessons behind which is really what we all enrolled for lmao, so I didn’t really learn anything from her class. Jasmine: Someone I went to high school with. She was into K-Pop, J-Pop, and anime back then and I think she still is. We were always good friends towards each other even though we were never close close. She’s taking up linguistics in UP now. Jasper Kaylee Anica: An instructor from the broadcast communication department in my college. Nothing much to say about her except she weirdly tags along with one of the other professors ALL THE TIME TO EVERYWHERE, including the washroom. I’m definitely not judging but yeah, it’s what I notice first when I think of her.

Top 5 Enrichment Classes for Preschoolers
There has been a substantial growth in the enrollment of kids to enrichment classes in the recent years. The reason for this sudden spurge could be the fast-paced life of an average Singaporean where one income is not enough to feed a family. This is apparently forcing parents to send their kids who are as small as a preschooler to enrichment classes. The kids are also facing stiff competitions nowadays forcing them to take up extra classes. While the enrichment classes for toddler is a matter of debate, scientifically it has been proven that the early exposure to various learning can motivate the love for learning. Some innovative enrichment classes for preschoolers have cropped up that helps the children to enhance their focus and memory power.
There are umpteen choices for enrichment classes for preschoolers that range from English, Math, Phonics, Chinese, leadership and brain train programs. These programs are available for kids as young as 18 months. However, as a parent you must take extra care in deciding the right enrichment programs because it should not overburden your little tot. Check out the few tips to be mindful before deciding on the enrichment programs:
• Observe your kid’s interest. • Ask for other kid’s experience about that particular class. • Sit in the class for 10 minute for a hand on experience. • Monitor your kid’s progress. If she is overtly tired, or disinterested discontinue the class.
If your child’s progress is positive, then be relaxed. Here is the list of top 5 trending enrichment classes for preschoolers.

hey hope!! i’ve completely run out of things to watch recently and was wonderinf if you had any recs of movies and tv shows??
HI!
It’s your lucky day because I have found myself in a hole of watching many new things lately that I’ve more or less found enjoyable so hopefully you will too? lol
1. Russian Doll:  Nadia, a young woman who is on a journey to be the guest of honor at a party in New York City. But she gets caught in a mysterious loop as she repeatedly attends the same event and dies at the end of the night each time – only to awaken the next day unharmed as if nothing had happened.
(I know I’m late to the party with that one, but it is quite literally one of the best comedy-dramas I’ve seen in a long while, not to mention Natasha Lyonne, the ultimate babe, stars in it. It is, blatantly, obvious that the script was written by women (thank god) and it has a cool, mind-trip twist at the end that’ll have you guessing what actually was happening the entire time. Super easy to binge!! 10/10)
2. Perfume:  When a woman is found murdered with scent glands excised from her body, a detective probes a group of friends who attended boarding school with her.
(A German mystery-crime-thriller that is way too convoluted and intertwined to know the real culprit of the grisly yet complex murders until the few minutes of the last episode. It has an incredibly intriguing script with intricate details and dialogue. Pleasantly surprised by how solid the entire storyline and characters were. TW though!! There are scenes of obscene sex, implied rape, domestic abuse, and sexual assault. So be careful if those things trigger you. Watching it in German with English subtitles is the way to go, though. Trust me.)
3. Handsome Devil:  Two opposites, a loner and the top athlete become friends at a rugby-obsessed boarding school, and the authorities test their friendship.
(An irish coming-of-age LGBT film that, again, pleasantly surprised me with how well it was executed underneath the guise of an overly cliche storyline. It’s winning, compelling, and quite moving with how it tackles individuality in teens. It’s just a great film that takes tropes and turns them on their head by transforming the characters in their own way. Not to give too much away but the talk one of the boys have with the English professor on the rugby field at night is so, so important as an open dialogue.)
4. Dumplin’:  The plus-size, teenage daughter of a former beauty queen signs up for her mum’s pageant as a protest that escalates when other contestants follow in her footsteps, revolutionising the pageant and their small Texas town.
(As you can probably guess this film is an emotionally-impactful conversation about self-acceptance that rides on the back of societal expectations of young women all tied together in a very heart-warming coming-of-age drama. Also there’s loads of Dolly Parton music. What else is there to say)
5. The Lobster:  In a dystopian society, single people must find a mate within 45 days or be transformed into an animal of their choice.
(Isn’t a new watch, but I was reminded of it recently. Just an extended Black Mirror episode, pretty much. It’s odd. It’s bizarre. It’s engaging. It’s a lot of things, and they are great.)
6. Shirkers:  In 1992 teenager Sandi Tan shoots Singapore’s first road movie with her enigmatic American mentor, Georges, who then absconded with all of the footage. The 16 mm film is recovered 20 years later, sending Tan, who is now a novelist living in Los Angeles, on a personal odyssey in search of Georges’ footprints.
(One of my favorite documentaries I’ve seen in a while, mainly because it doesn’t exactly feel like a documentary. It feels like you’re privvy to the incredibly frustrating, disheartening, and determined story of friendship, women-bound creativity, youth, and dishonesty when it comes to the mystery of where and why Georges disappeared. It’s also empowering in a way to see the transition of these young women reclaiming their lives after such betrayal.)
7. Grace & Frankie:  For as long as they can recall, Grace and Frankie have been rivals. Their one-upmanship comes crashing to a halt, however, when they learn that their husbands have fallen in love with each other and want to get married. As everything around the ladies is coming apart, the only thing they can really rely on is each other.
(I’ve been living under a rock, sue me. This show is fanfuckingtastic. Just watch it. Just binge it. Just do it.)
8. Voyeur:  Gay Talese investigates Gerald Foos, a Colorado motel owner who spies on his guests. Using a carefully constructed platform in the motel’s attic, Foos documents his guests most private moments, from the mundane to the shocking.
(Just a frustratingly and horrifyingly sad and strange recollection of two men who act as an incredibly interesting character study if nothing else. Recommend)
9. Some Freaks:  A charming romance develops between a boy with one eye and an overweight girl, though when she loses her weight after going to college, their relationship is tested in devastating ways they never dreamed would happen.
(….. I still don’t know how I feel about this movie. I’ve watched it twice, once alone and once with a friend, and I’m still conflicted on my lasting thoughts about the film and its message. It’s definitely something I suggest watching, at least, to come to your own conclusions about how it made you feel. It’s just. uncomfortable in the strangest of ways, and I just need more people to converse about it with lmao)
10. The Kindergarten Teacher:  A teacher sees such great promise in her 5-year-old student that she goes to unreasonable lengths to protect his talent.
(I watched this film on a whim one day while off from work, and I was pleasantly surprised by its depth and heartbreaking tendencies. This film does not evoke anything but unsettled feelings and yearning for both the young boy and the teacher. Many people tend to gloss over the fact that this film does so much more than its superficial narrative. it opens such a bigger conversation into what absence and neglect of personal creativity and art through someone’s marriage and family can cause them to in-turn have an unhealthy obsession with wanting to keep a child’s love/talent for art alive. Haunting but great film.)
11. Mr. Roosevelt:  A struggling LA-based comedian goes home to Austin, Texas, when a family member becomes ill and finds herself in the awkward position of staying with her ex and his amazing new girlfriend.
(Friend found this hidden-gem on Netflix, and it’s such a quirky, comforting, easy-watch that I miss a lot in indie films. It’s progressive and weird in all the right ways, and it leaves you with a cozy feeling inside once the film reaches its end.)
12. Queer Eye Season 3
(You know the drill just more feel-good reality-television makeover that makes all of us a little bit happier about humanity’s ability to be kind)
13. Happy Anniversary:  On their three-year anniversary, Molly and Sam are at a crossroads and need to decide whether to move forward or call it quits.
(Another hidden gem found on Netflix that I ended up thoroughly enjoying. It comes across as a real, genuine, non-exaggerated look at the inside of a couple’s relationship. It’s candid, fun, witty in dialogue, and heartwarming towards the end. I’ll admit I got a bit misty eyed at 1 AM lol also the dude who plays jean-ralphio is one of the mains so c’mon.)
14. Class Rank:  When her class rank threatens her college plans, an ambitious teen convinces a nerdy peer to run for the school board to abolish the ranking system.
(Listen up, I watched this film because I was under the impression that it was going to be a b-rated teen film I could be amused by, but it ended up being a sorta cute story that I enjoyed a lot more than I probably should’ve RIP. Give it a shot).
15. Cam:  A camgirl has her principles, until a mysterious woman who looks just like her takes over her channel.
(Don’t take the general critic review to heart and watch the film, yourself. It’s. a ride. It definitely gave me chills as much as it made me uncomfortable. A thriller with twists and uneasiness at every corner. Just a real creepy look into AI, especially in industries like the camgirl industry. I do want the girl’s play dungeon tho rip)
