Do you want to see me draw another character of the show ? 👀
Or even more Pu Yiyong ?
(I posted a gif version of this drawing too !)
🖌️ I love Pu Yi Yong a LOT
📝 I was really strucked by how Oh No! Here is well written (there will be absolutely no spoiler bellow)
And one of the strength of the show really is the characters
They have something almost cartoonish in their appearance which matches with the humor of the show.
👔 Like, their looks -their clothes, their hairstyle…-which are really quite stereotypical of their role they have somewhat exaggerated expressions.
📝 However ! These archetypal representations really allows the show to subvert the role they’re given and dive into their personality which goes beyond their appearance
Under their comedic surface, there’s something deeper more complex and more tragic…
🖌️ And honestly, I find Yiyong SOOO well written once again. The show makes us understand him by showing us tiny things, like, thank you for showing us with subtlety and not telling us straightforwardly
📝 I’ll stop my messy and certainly badly written ramble about how much I love Oh No! Here Comes Trouble here for today

About Yi Yong and Guang Yan’s dynamic
Their dynamic is so touching for they appear like polar opposites but they actually complement each other.
Yi Yong relies on Guang Yan’s articulate way of thinking and Guang Yan is amazed by the intensity of Yi Yong’s emotions.
They do bicker a lot but sometimes, when quiet settles between them, you can see how much they learn from each other. When Yi Yong’s words fail him, he listens to Guang Yan’s way of putting words together (see ep 4).
Tumblr media
See how Yi Yong leans in? It feels as if he is trying to memorise the words Guang Yan chose to explain the case to the people they are talking to.
When Guang Yan’s analytical mind cannot grasp the situation for it follows no logic, he steadily watches Yi Yong who listens to his emotions.
Guang Yan is a thinker whereas Yi Yong is a feeler.
However Guang Yan feels a lot when he is with Yi Yong and sometimes his feelings take over although he’d normally not let that happen. He is quick to read Yi Yong’s expressions and the intensity through which Yi Yong experiences life makes him want to bring him some comfort in whatever way he can. He isn’t completely aware of it himself but he is trying to be a source of warmth to Yi Yong’s cold world.
A good illustration of such a dynamic would be Chu Ying’s comment in ep 8: “Good things happen when I’m with you”.  Chu Ying doesn’t understand the weight her words have on Yi Yong although Guang Yan understands it immediately and blurts out some awkward words of comfort.
Tumblr media
Yi Yong’s distress is so obvious to Guang Yan although Chu Ying remains completely oblivious to it. Luckily, by the end of the series, she’ll finally understand why saying such a thing — repeatedly —  was a mistake and a pretty insensitive thing to say. She’s best girl though and I’m not hating on her. We love to see a good character’s development in this house.
What is so endearing about Yi Yong and Guang Yan’s dynamic is that it wasn’t meant to be. Nothing destined them to become so important to each other so quickly and so subtly. The depths of their bond take root in the fact that both accept to be humble in each other’s presence. But they also both genuinely value each other’s inputs and thoughts.
Yi Yong has always been constantly judged by random people because his intelligence doesn’t fit into the “academic intelligence” definition. He doesn’t do well at school and so society views him as being not worth much. Guang Yan, on the other hand, is a diligent student who went to med school because that’s what brilliant students do. (that’s what society thinks, this is not my personal opinion) But Yi Yong, although his career path has yet to be written, has faith in his feelings. Although he stopped drawing his comic, he still trusts his instincts and doesn’t let the world’s hypocrisy taint the purity of his heart.
Guang Yan is lost although his future seems all planned out. He admires Yi Yong for all he is: for the goodness of his heart, his intrepid nature, and his ability to see people for who they truly are.
Remember when Guang Yan’s father was kind of happy to see his son skip school because of Yi Yong? He didn’t seem to think that Yi Yong was a bad influence on his son. On the contrary, he was glad that Guang Yan was finally opening up.
Yi Yong and Guang Yan are brutally honest with each other although Guang Yan looks as if he doesn’t always speak his mind when he is with his classmates. However, the fact that Yi Yong’s face is so easy to read makes it easy for him to stop masking his emotions and let it all out. Because Yi Yong doesn’t mind. Because Yi Yong won’t misunderstand his words. Because Yi Yong won’t get offended.
Both their characters break the usual archetypes of the risk-taker and the diligent student and that is all thanks to Oh No! Here Comes Trouble’s brilliant writing, directing, and acting.

It's official, from the serie's IG, that these three have one (1) working brain cell between them, brain cell that stops working when the two guys are together.

What's Pú YiYông's composition?
Brain : 1/3 impulsiveness, 1/3 idiocy, 1/3 emptiness (?) - Thick brows and disdainful glare of a certain 5 years old comics character* - Some face injuries must be normal for a rowdy youth (?) - Hearsay that's his weapon against oddities (sigh) - Baggy hiphop style - Trademark "wolf tail"/mullet -

陳楮英
What's Chén ChûYing's composition?
Brain: 1/3 no level of achievement, 1/3 no politeness, 1/3 no intellect (?) IQ = 1% - Pretty short hair with outward curl - Hopefully this is a pager that can call for actual help >_< - Rumours say that CCY is a terrible driver. Yup! That's the vehicle! - 1 stripe 3 stars* police uniform - Full of the sense of justice, the eyes of someone who wishes to solve cases but can't pass detective exams.

What's Caó GuangYàn's composition?
Brain: 1/3 studies, 1/3 exams, 1/3 comics reading (?) - Mandatory side parted fringe of the handsome guys- The ??? look, a common occurrence since meeting PYY - The paper with magical writings that opened the door to a new world - Refined clothing fitting for a brainiac - People and flowers blossom in his wake but why won't this flower bloom?

it drives me insane that yiyong’s supernatural abilites are so intrinsically tied to his artistic abilities i.e he can quite literally let others see what can’t normally be seen by drawing the obsessions accurately, and he can solve their problems by writing for them sincerely and earnestly. but like. all of this is In Service to other ppl. and yiyong ofc Wants to do it— he says so himself that he doesnt like not helping and he finds joy in being able to do so but its not hard for your art to be meaningful when it’s for other ppl. yiyong’s art matters to lots of ppl bc it has practical uses BUT it drives me absolutely insane that the One (1) person who was a fan of his works Before he had supernatural abilities is guangyan. he just enjoyed his comics! he loved reading them! he waits for updates and commented when yiyong discontinued it!! and most ppl in yiyong’s life write his comics off— not even in a mean spirited way! they just dont like it and its fine but its so important to me that his art Did mean something to at least one other person. and its funny too bc guangyan was giggling laughing at his dream but he unknowingly was the most supportive of it all this time even without meaning to! before they became neighbours and began spending all that time together, they were able to connect simply as artist and audience. all this time his parents have been telling him to pursue his dreams and all this time he’d been scared for so many reasons; it didn’t pay enough or it wasn’t successful enough to warrant being a dream but like. it meant a lot to even One person, and in that way yiyong’s art, even before all the supernatural abilities, mattered too

A lil snippet of fanfic I may be writing
The hallways are filled with stressed students, streaming out of the classroom to greet their friends. Guangyan is one of said stressed students, because he has an exam this Friday and their stupid professor just assigned a fifteen-page research paper on a medical procedure of their choice. And it’s due in a week, so when it’s piled on top of all the studying he has to do? It’s a lot. Guangyan can practically feel the premature gray hairs growing out of his scalp.
“Hey, Cao Guangyan!”
Guangyan turns around to see his group of friends grinning and waving at him. Wang Qingyi, the one with the crush on him, is standing shyly in front, right next to Lu Yichen, the one who so rudely called his name.
“Yes?”
Lu Yichen throws an arm over his shoulders. Cao Guangyan resists the urge to move away.
“Wang Qingyi has something to say to you.”
Qingyi steps forward, hope sparkling in her eyes.
“Do-” she stammers, a rosy pink spreading across her cheeks. Guangyan can feel a headache forming already, and it’s not even midday yet.
“Do you want to go get dinner with me?” she blurts out in a rush.
“I can’t, I’m sorry. I’m busy this evening.” He smiles politely at her, feeling the uncomfortable prickle of awkwardness settling in.
“O-ok.” Wang Qingyi flees the scene, braids swinging behind her. Guangyan doesn’t like having to crush her feelings that harshly. After all, she had a lot of guts to ask him, and she’s sort of cute, too, but Guangyan just . . . isn’t feeling it. Though he could probably fit in a dinner with Qingyi, albeit a short one since he has to study, he’ll be using that time for something more important.
Guangyan waves back at his friends and mutters something about a doctor’s appointment before hurrying away, cutting off Yichen’s mildly annoying remarks about turning girls down. As he’s walking down the stairs, he sees it.
A familiar haircut, distinct in its own abysmal way. His feet stop moving of their own accord. His traitorous pulse picks up, beating out a hopeful rhythm.
Is that—
Guangyan sprints over so fast that he almost trips over his own feet.
“Pu Yiyong!” he yells.
But then the guy turns around in surprise and it isn’t Pu Yiyong at all. There’s no sharp, angry eyebrows or surprisingly expressive eyes; only a confused look and eyes Guangyan can’t recognize. Just some stranger.
Guangyan’s heart sinks, and he gives the guy a weak smile. “Sorry, I thought you were someone else.”
He trudges the rest of the way home.
Opening the door to a silent apartment, he heads straight for his destination. Setting his schoolbag down, he kneels by the bed.
“A pretty girl asked me out today, but I couldn’t even say yes because of you.” he grumbles, pulling out a couple medical textbooks.
Chest rising and falling slowly, Pu Yiyong doesn’t bother replying.

i can't get over how many people are confused about yiyong & guangyan, it's giving me byler deniers n.n it's been there from the beginning, the focus on yiyong & guangyan's relationship, guangyan noticing him missing, the red string of fate & cherry blossoms everything in that show! I was actually scared it wasn't going to happen a la midnight museum subtle but you literally had guangyan admit his feelings for him in front of yiyong's mother and father and grandfather, i'm surprised we got that far! there's no way yiyong doesn't feel the same! i do feel a bit cheated especially since they said the end in a definite way... i would have like seeing them explicitly get together just for my own shipper heart but i still understand that they would, but y'all who are confused really needed that concrete evidence...

The way I love every main character of this show and their relationship with each other
That it’s both funny and super sad, with some supernatural cases
Quite cleverly written
