As I am a RATHER big fan of Serika Toa, here are a few fun stats to celebrate the extremely long-awaited announcement of her and (surprise!) Haruno Sakura's impending Soragumi takeover!
When Kiki becomes top star on June 12, she will have been a nibante (as wholly official a nibante as nibantes get) for 103 months. For reference, Tamaki Ryou became top star of Tsukigumi 100 months after her debut.
Kiki will be ken-17 at the start of her top stardom. Sou Kazuho was also ken-17, and Hokushou Kairi and Oozora Yuuhi were both ken-18.
Haruno Sakura has one total lead of any kind, shinko or small theater (it was the Never Say Goodbye shinko). The last musumeyaku to become top with only one total lead was Dan Rei (top debut in 1999 with one last minute shinko lead in 1998). Before that, we have to go back to the early 80s. Sugata Haruka (became top in '82), Wakaba Hiromi ('81), Kuroki Hitomi ('81), and Azuma Chiaki ('80) all did it with one lead. Kanna Miho ('85) and Haruka Kurara ('77) did it with none.
Her first named role in the Grand Theater was in High & Low; James Bond will be her second. It's difficult to confirm full cast lists from the 80s, but since the 90s at least, Dan Rei ties her for fewest. We love an underdog!
I have absolutely no way of proving that she is the first musumeyaku to be announced as the next top without first having a proper, performance-themed, on the Grand Theater wall head shot, but if someone is bored enough to dive deep into the internet archives, please let me know!
"When will this guy shut up about Dragon Guardian" yea it's not happening sorry not sorry. This one reminds me a bit of boukyaku no shima from Dragonvarius, which is a pretty sick track. Lyrics down below the cut and see you all next time.

Kaze ni yure hohoemu akaki kami no kishi
Ma wo kari mezasu shiro kami no rakuen
Ikusaba ni chiriyuku hakanai omoi wo seoi
Haruka sora he to habataku yuuki
The red-haired knight smiles as the wind blows
Headed to the castle in god’s eden as he fends off evil
Shouldering those fragments of dreams scattered on the battlefield
Bravely leaping onto the distant sky
Hagane no karada ni yadoru toutoki tomo to no kizuna
Kiseki no inori mezameru mana no chikara
Unmei no megami yo toki wo koe ima koko ni
Hametsu he no sekai he sukui no te wo
Eien no tsurugi kono te ni osamete
Ooki na tsubasa hiroge senkou anatsu
Guided by the bond with his companions that dwells on his steeled body
The miraculous prayers awaken the power of mana
Oh goddess of fate where are you across time?
Lend your hand to the world as it heads towards demise
Wielding the sword of eternity
And launching an attack while spreading those massive wings
Subete mamorinuku to chikai oozora he
Mori no oku kakusareta jigen no tobira
Making an oath to protect it all, headed into the skies
Hidden in the woods is the gate between dimensions
Gensou no keshiki hirogaru kumo ni oowareta fuukei
Ano hi kawashita yakusoku hatasu toki made
As the wonderful scenery sprawls, clouds fill the view
Until the day it is fulfilled, the promise from that day
Ten wo someru yami wo kirisaku seiken wa
Shinwa no toki yori uketsugareshi
Subete wo mitooshi hitomi ni utsuru mirai
Hohoemi te wo kazashi tsurugi sazukeru
The sacred sword cleaves through the darkness tainting the skies
Hailing from beyond the age of myths
Being able to see all futures on those eyes
She happily passes down the sword
Unmei no megami yo toki wo koe ima koko ni
Hametsu he no sekai he sukui no te wo
Horobiyuku ketsumatsu rekishi wa kurikaesu
Kuuhaku no yogensho honoo no naka he
Oh goddess of fate, where are you across time?
Lend your hand to the world as it heads towards demise
History repeats itself as we head towards demise
The prophecies lay blank amidst the flames
I got curious as to what happens to the girls after the anime ends and starting reading the Harukana Recieve manga, and seriously... night and day.
Mostly, it's that the characters look significantly more realistic - having been a huge volleyball fan most of my life, you just don't see too many women with dual watermelons for a chest playing competitively, let alone an entire high school of them. The fact that even as young girls the twins always had... well, twins always skeeved me out, but Haruka and Claire especially always looked genetically engineered to me and not like real teenagers at all. The manga is plenty fanservice-ladened, but is not to the extreme of being completely unbelievable like the anime is.
Also, it is plenty silly and goofy like the anime - Haruka, Emily, and Claire's characters are all hilarious, but the whole thing is not nearly as cheesey with the awkward forced humor and thick lacquer of sapastic drama that the anime chose to slather all over everything. Why they all have to call someone's name EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. they touch the ball is obnoxious, that does not happen in any sport in the history of ever, but aside from that the flow of things feels more natural.
Overall, though, the story just works better, the characters seem more even, and it's more fun to me. The anime tried way too hard in comparison - the focus was clearly aesthetics over content for the show. I love the sport, though, so have always had a thing for an anime that if I were ever to make a list of the most trash anime I ended up liking, am sure Harukana Recieve would be close to the top of it. Am liking the manga so much more.
If you liked the show at all, totally recommend the manga. Especially because yes, it does go well beyond the anime and yes, more wacky fun stuff happens to the crew.
