Do you happen to know where you can get high quality resolution prints of some of SP illustrations? I've been dying for a copy of "What a lovely thing a rose is."

honestly not really? a lot of the uh. 'Art Print' stores online just scrape from wikimedia and pinterest and the oroboros loop of Other art print stores so theyre usually not any better quality than what you find there (if not significantly worse even) and theyre pretty scummy as companies so theyre really not worht giving your money to. And then these are also mostly illustrations that were printed pretty small in a magazine so even high quality scans are not easy to scale up.

That said, 'what a lovely thing a rose is' IS in pretty good quality on wikimedia so you could probably get that printed yourself? That's where i sourced most of the images for the bracket as well, and ones that are missing or poor quality there i tried to find in copies of the actual books or magazines on archive.org which is usually the next best option

Does anyone know anything about making your own wiki? Preferably as open-source and ad-free as possible, but, i'll admit i'm not the most keen coder yet, so hopefully nothing TOO technical (i dont need straight-up WYSIWYG but i would prefer something easier than like. Linux) It SOUNDS like Xwiki is a good option, but I'd just like to confirm if anyone could lol

I have to go on a nerdass loser rant bc its insane to me how people will shit on wikis (and discourse on the actions of Fandom itself aside) but I also have to be subjected to vids about things like character heights from youtubers relatively popular in the community with unsourced information simply stating it comes from the game manuals despite the fact that it includes characters whose heights have not actually been canonically revealed (i.e. most/all characters first introduced in Tekken 6 or afterwards who have not been playable in either Tekken 8 beta) and people will eat that up because that content creator has already amassed a small following while im sitting here chewing through wires like a rat. And don't get me started on the Comments of the vid stating the most wild off the wall shit I've ever seen. Like there are some crazy unkempt wikis out there but as someone that edits the tekken wiki we at least source all the important information we put on there. Some characters Don't have ages revealed. Some don't have heights. You can't compare their in-game models because prior to tk7 Nina was listed as 5'3 and we know her ass is not 5'3 even in flats. Youtubers can release some cool informative videos but they can also get away with just blatant misinformation and no one wants to go to the wiki and see if they at least have an answer with a source because wikis all get lumped together with the worst page on them or the worst one in the same category.

the refusal to see Jack's agency and his making choices is also why people misread "Moriah," imo. which I've never talked about specifically so here's my read of the end of S14:

Jack burns off his soul to save Sam/Dean/Cas & kill Michael, thereby losing his moral compass; he kills Mary because he can't handle her disapproval of his killing Nick and the future disapproval of Sam & Dean; he realizes he's made a big mistake, tries to fix it, and can't (because ultimately death is final and everyone dies); he goes to visit his grandparents because he wants their approval/love and they reject him too, but instead of lashing out like he did with Mary, he runs away. talking with Cas in the graveyard, Jack laments that he keeps hurt people & making mistakes, and faces up to that reality. then, when Dean arrives, Jack doesn't lash out or run away. Jack still has his powers; he could've teleported somewhere else, or taken the gun from Dean, or even attacked him, but he doesn't. instead, Jack is willing to face Dean and his judgement, face up to his own mistakes, even if it means his death...

meanwhile Dean is grieving Mary's death, upset that maybe if they'd known something was up with Jack they could've helped him before it got to this point. Dean's also grappling with the fact that he was the one who originally unleashed Michael, using his power to save Sam and Jack; that he & Sam were the ones who brought Jack back by using the power of Jack's own soul, which he then burned off saving them all from Michael; and that if Dean had gotten into the Mal'ak box like he'd wanted to, Jack wouldn't have lost his soul and Mary would still be alive. the last thing Dean saw Jack do was attack him, Sam, and Cas -- after Jack got out of the Ma'lak box, he could've just teleported away, but instead he attacks them angrily first -- and for all that Dean knows, that's still how Jack is reacting: lashing out and hurting people with his powers. and if Jack is capable of preventing the whole world from lying, how many people could he kill if he lashed out against the world itself? someone has to stop Jack before he hurts or kills millions or even billions of people...

but at the graveyard, Dean doesn't see a Jack who's angry or violent or lashing out. he sees Jack choose not to attack him even when he learns Dean is there to kill him! Jack says he understands, acknowledges what he's done, says he knows he's a monster... except would a monster choose to die so he wouldn't hurt anyone else? if Dean kills Jack, he also kills himself; if he condemns Jack as a monster, he condemns himself as one too; and if Jack has chosen mercy, if Jack has put down his metaphorical gun, can't Dean put down his literal one?

a couple years ago i was taking a class on racial politics and did a research paper on how Irish proximity to whiteness shifted over time in the US bc I'm Irish American and wanted to learn about that history. Irish independence advocates like Daniel O'Connell argued for a common cause with American slavery abolitionists. there was support for abolition among Irish immigrants but over time they aligned politically + racially with slave-owning whites in order to secure their own position.

Irish concern for American slavery was framed as foreign meddling and the Irish immigrant communities wanted to be “real Americans.” this effort to legitimize themselves is also why there's a long history of Irish American cops. there were Irish-led minstrel troupes. the schism between American + homeland Irish also drastically reduced the amount of money going back to Ireland to support independence. Irish Americans stopped materially supporting independence back in Ireland to secure a higher spot in the racial hierarchy of America.

remember kids, the moral of "Irish and Italians weren't even considered White yet!" isn't "because in those times people were so ignorant they didn't think the Irish were white". the moral is "because white is an unreal category created to justify slavery and ongoing hoarding of power and wealth". It's not that you know better about Italians. It's that the boundaries of the higher caste have changed.

A few years ago I had a phase of being REALLY into digital privacy, using tor, duckduckgo, etc before suffering some burnout because I was trying to be 100% secure. So I'm by no means a expert I'm just relaying experience.

The culture of a lot of left leaning and "fandommy" sites (tumblr, twitter, etc) tends to fear/dislike (or just not know about) a lot of the IT stuff used by people into online privacy because they asscoiate it with "techbros". ESPECIALLY anything even remotely involving cryptocurrency. But if Trump is going to start censoring things and making morning after pills harder to get now might be a VERY good time for Americans to get into online privacy and how to avoid being tracked as well as avoiding censorship. Perhaps even some crypto to buy things discretly (or perhaps if ICE agents start caring about cash?) and because many activists groups also take donations in crypto. Never dealt with crypto myself but from what I know Monero was designed to be more untracable than Bitcoin. Don't know how succesfull that is though. Definetly get into privacy in general though.

I'll leave some useful links to get started. Words of advice:

Don't install a fuckton of privacy extensions on your browser, your unique combination of extensions will give your browser a unique fingerprint. Instead read up on and pick a few commonly used ones.

The BIGGEST annoyance for me was acedemic/proffesional settings because noone wants to switch over to some software they never heard off for one group project. Personally I use some normie software for exclusivly proffesional purposes with NO other information on me and do my actual browsing/leisure computer use more privatly.

https://www.torproject.org/: THE gold standard for privacy focused browsers. Also obscures ip. Might not always be practical. Has the disadvantage of being notoriously slow and is blocked by some services/websites to avoid people bypassing ip bans and whatnot. Probably don't use this as your everyday browser but if you ever need to look up anything without censorship use tor.

I open Dragon Age: The Veilguard

I play the game, and I think to myself ‘weird I thought this was a choices and politics game ft metaphors from real history like slavery’ 

My friends go “you’re right that’s what it’s supposed to be but this game is lacking those things”

I go “oh bummer that sucks, I like moral quandaries.”

I see a post that publicly wonders why people are upset that one of the main metaphors (slavery) is missing from the game.

I respond saying yeah its weird that people are complaining that a Big Metaphor is missing from the Big Metaphor Game

I get asked what part of the game matches the Main Metaphor, and I respond with “well, the elves are second class citizens.” I am doing research specifically on the elves. I read in the wiki, with sources, that yeah, no, I’m right, the Church said “if you kiss an elf that’s basically the same thing as kissing a dog.” Elves don’t have rights in most of the countries that the other games are in. One of these places in the North is the Big Metaphor Place where they looooove the Big Metaphor and using the Big Metaphor, but I get called weird for wondering why it’s mostly absent from the game.

I open my blinds and find out that National Holocaust Remembrance Day is no longer a federal holiday. I also find out that my government is trying to "deport" the native citizens of said country. I go back online and find a thread from 2009 where one of the writers explicitly states “Yeah the Dalish started as a metaphor for the Roma but evolved into more like the Native Americans, and the Andrastean Elves are like the Jewish during Nazi Occupied Germany.”

I say “oh okay so Tevinter is like Nazi Occupied Germany. Yeah it’s weird that they’ve kind of sanitized this place and I can’t find the evidence of this anywhere.”

Someone calls me weird again and tells me to read the Codex. Someone else mentions the very beginning of the game, where you see shackles on the ground and there is mention of an elf who is freeing slaves, none of which I witness. I wonder if the slaves are in the room with me. 

Someone else mentions that this is the first time we see Tevinter without any biases, mentioning two characters, Dorian and Fenris.

My friends, horrified, tell me Fenris is an ex-slave (who can be given BACK to his slave owner) and Dorian’s family are Slave Owners. I think to myself huh that’s kind of a weird thing to say considering the biases are “I was a slave” and “Yeah my family owns slaves but that’s kinda bad huh” cause that’s the same exact concept. 

I say “well elves don’t have rights, that sucks, but I wish we got to see more of their day to day. I hear about these alienages that in other games we’ve been able to see, it’s weird there isn’t one in the very poor part of the Capital of the Big Metaphor Place, where there would be a high number of these people.”

Someone says “why do you want to see them suffering? That’s weird.”

I say “yeah but there’s beauty in adversity and I didn’t write the game, I want to see this big tree the alienages supposedly have as a sort of last hope for the city elves to cling to their lost culture.” 

Someone calls me weird.

I open my blinds and politicians and big public figures are giving Nazi salutes in public rallies. 

I boot up Veilguard.

I boot up Origins and get called a slur within the first five minutes of the game. 

I picked a circle elven mage, but I use youtube to look up the city elf origin and go “oh holy fuck wow they just put it right out there huh? That’s the world state, now I know.”

Someone tells me that I should play the game because I would enjoy being sexually assaulted and violated.

I literally don’t have a response to that in any comprehensive way because that is a wild thing to say to a stranger. It is, in fact, two subjects I have intimate knowledge of as a victim of both domestic abuse and sexual assault. 

Someone tells me to just read the Codex.

Someone tells me to just read the Diary of Anne Frank.

I buy the art book for Veilguard and see that some of the major players they nixed were ex-slaves. I look at Reva and I say “oh hey cool concept” 

Someone calls me an idiot online and I laugh while closing my blinds, because purity culture is once more making a comeback and if I licked a single rock in Arlathan all I’d taste was bleach.
