California Love - McLaren Mod Mood
Two lovers On The Run in the city of Los Angeles meets Aston Martin Music. A summer well spent for summertime lovers. Celebrating life, love, and accomplishments was our Summer 2020. My first time in California felt like a dream, Lady Elchapo was on the scene looking supreme and diveen…oops I meant divine, one-of-a-kind. Looking like a true Liberian dime.
This mesh two-piece outfit from Fashion Nova was me taking a risque and stepping outside of my box. As a curvy woman, I love pieces that accentuate my silhouette but also looks that keeps me covered up at the same time. This see-through coordinate almost made me JUMPSCAREDT.
However, the reaction I was met with before entering the elevator of my hotel on this day, by a group of beautiful black women was the opposite of what my mind was telling me. The girls took a step back to admire the view and gave out loud compliments, we talked before I got on the elevator, with one of them disappointed that she didn’t get this outfit as it was already in her shopping cart. I was shocked myself that they loved how this looked on me so much. It was a pleasant conversation full of laughs and vibes. I proceeded down to the front of the hotel where I met Kofi with the Motivation, one lens, and one view.
One thing I can say is, growing up I’ve always been hard on myself and struggled to view myself as others saw me. But as I mature, I appreciate the compliments and humbly welcome them in. However, one’s view of self is far more important than what others think. It doesn’t matter how many compliments I receive, if I don’t feel like the nicely decorated adjectives they describe me as then I simply won’t believe it’s true. Fashion is therapy and getting dressed to feel good and look good improves one’s self-confidence.
I’m never going to stop dressing up and getting fly as can be in my own suit naturally. I want this for many women to experience. Mrs. Put On whatever makes you smile, dance, and makes your soul feel good. Forget what the haters say, if you want to show an extra bit of skin, a little bit of cleavage, do so and move with grace. Let the haters hate, because you will always look great while they negate.
Thank you for reading!
Stay Blessed & Beautiful, Kings & Queens!
-xoxo Neferdede

LIBERIA WHERE: Africanne on Main (200 E Main St, Richmond, VA 23219) Right before the pandemic hit, probably in February of 2020, I ate lunch at Africanne on Main. I went there for the jollof rice, a one-pot staple dish of many West African countries, though the website says that it's "Liberian style" whatever that means.  I ended up trying their whole buffet, lots of things I didn’t know the names of but were very tasty. Lots of appetizers and sambusa type general West African yummies. I also got homemade sorrel drink. I just realized this weekend that I have since somehow deleted all these photos, so I took these off of Google. I may be back there eventually, but I’m just not feeling the buffet during a pandemic vibe right now...  I think the funniest part of this whole outing was when I turned around and saw a coworker buying lunch there too. To put this in perspective, I was only one of two white girls who worked at a black-owned company with about 60+ black employees. My coworker looked so very confused to see my little white girl butt sitting there, though perhaps it was just that we ended up in the same small cafe at the same time on the same day. I raised my sorrel to him and saluted. What am I doing here? Oh, nothing, just tasting the world! I’ll probably hit this place again after the pandemic for actual photos I won’t accidentally delete.

Girrrrrrrrrl I’m assuming you don’t listen to MJ much so I’m recommending Dirty Diana and Liberian Girl. Two opposite vibes, ones rock and the others smooth and harmonious. 😊 see how you feel about those songs. I mean hey, Tom likes MJ
Ehhh I’ll be honest hun I’m still not a big fan. Like I said, he’s very talented it’s just not my taste!

Hey there, I was just wondering if you possibly have any photo hunts already done that I could use for a Zendaya FC? Please and thank you! If not, no worries!
As far as what I have already on my page, Naya Rivera (black, white, and Puerto Rican) has a very similar ethnic background to Zendaya (black and white), actually, which is useful for you. The only premade photo I could find of the two of them on Google is a little damning as far as lookalike-ability is concerned, but I think you can tell these photos are both edited on the opposite end of the spectrum; Zendaya’s is darkened and Naya’s is lightened. They do have quite a few similar features though, so I do think it’s safe (with all of the above in mind) to use these photo hunts interchangeably, for now. Zendaya has a different vibe (and I think she’s shorter), but you can use any of my Santana photo hunts to find useful photos. I’ll make a brand new, Zendaya specific photo hunt asap as well.
Tumblr media
I also have a Kat Graham photo hunt, and she is half Americo Liberian and half Jewish and they do share some features. Just like Naya, the match isn’t perfect, but it’s close enough that her photo hunt might help. I also have a bunch of photo hunts that are specific to a theme, not a person. You might be able to find some stuff in my “faceless” photo hunts.
Tumblr media
In the meantime, these might help:
Kat Graham
Santana Lopez (& Santana Lopez hunt #2)
Santana at home
Santana selfies
Santana as a mother
Punk/Skank! Santana
Santana in formal wear
summer Santana
WOC in expensive formal wear
WOC autumn fashion
WOC dancers
faceless WOC
faceless Girl Power
faceless (leather or fake) jackets
faceless oversized sweaters
faceless exercise
faceless shoe porn

Album #194: Michael Jackson “Bad” (1987)
Tumblr media
I love Michael Jackson...’s music. As a kid, I thought Michael Jackson was one of the coolest people ever. As an adult, I now know that while his music is incredible, the man himself had a lot of issues. Let’s get to the music.
The introduction to the opening title track is recognizable. There is a lot of synthesizer on this track, which gives it a different sound than “Thriller.” Beyond the synthesizer, there really isn’t a whole lot to this track. “The Way You Make Feel” is one of my favorite MJ songs. The synthesizer gives a jazz feeling to this track on which MJ’s vocals are incredibly soulful and endearing. “Speed Demon” falls short of the finish line, in my opinion. The track “Liberian Girl” definitely has a global vibe, both in sound and content. Stevie Wonder makes a nice appearance on the incredibly ‘80s-sounding pop track “Just Good Friends.”
I like the horns under Jackson’s signature wails on the track “Another Part of Me.” “Man in the Mirror” is probably my favorite MJ song. I don’t know whether it is obvious or genius to reference a mirror in a song about self-reflection. The beat is solid and Michael really gets going on the build-up to the chorus. The best part is easily when the background vocals join in because when they do, Michael loses whatever chill he had on this track. “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” is a nice ballad that crescendoes into an intense chorus. There is a lot of intensity on the track “Dirty Diana,” which has a harder rock sound than any of the other tracks on this album. There’s a nice guitar solo on this track. “Smooth Criminal” is another incredible MJ song. Michael’s brooding vocals on this track are entirely unexpected but deeply appreciated. Lyrically, there actually is not a whole lot of substance to this track. There’s a nice little sting to MJ closing the album out with the track “Leave Me Alone.”
Rating: 8.5/10
How I Listened: Spotify
Takeaway: There were a lot more filler songs on this album than I remember there being. The hits are huge though. Also, there really is not much lyrical complexity on this album. I guess it just goes to show that when you can sing (and dance) as well as MJ can, you don’t have to say a whole lot.

How 'Political Fashion' Films Predicted 2017 in 2008
The final Bush years. The economic crisis. War, as always. The year was 2008, and, knowing fashion's capacity for social commentary and identity politics, mega-influential photographer and SHOWstudio director Nick Knight decided to curate Political Fashion, a film and essay series that captures, among other things, the connection between fashion, society, and politics. The commissioned films approach politics in subtle and direct ways; contributors included Steven Klein, Matthew Stone, Bernhard Willhelm, Greg Kadel, Gareth Pugh, Stephen Jones, Camille Vivier, Walter van Beirendonck, Vivienne Westwood, and Viktor & Rolf.
Recently, Political Fashion returned to SHOWstudio, so Creators decided to talk to Knight about its revival.
Still from 'The Red Shoes' by Marcus Werner Hed, 2008.
"The industry has been going through the self-realization that fashion is one of the most accessible art forms and forms of expression," Knight tells Creators. "How we dress says a lot about who we are, who we want to be, and what we stand for." One particular standout film for Knight is The Red Shoes, which tells the true story of one Liberian girl's desire for a fashion item that was so strong  she joined a militant rebel group in the hopes of attaining it.
"We talk about fashion being on the periphery, but you see it's something that every society engages with. This girl would put herself through unspeakable things to be able to buy a pair of red shoes. For her it felt like she was becoming something else. Her reality had very little to do with her dream."
Dreams, Knight insists, must persist. "Fantasy is the first thing a dictator will take away from a society. People are waking up to things that are happening, but I wouldn't wish for a fantasy-less society or for dreaming to stop. That's how society evolves. You have to want a better world."
Stills from 'Untitled' by Nick Knight, 2008, starring Naomi Campbell.
Waves of change in the world have enabled people to challenge dogma and dominant discourses, but they've also seemingly provoked an identity crisis which has been answered with nationalistic overzealousness.
"The vote for Britain to leave Europe has been a validation for people with xenophobic and racist views," Knight tells us "Many of the older generation have never particularly felt at ease with Europe, and unfortunately that's a lot of the people that voted. The youth are really the ones who will suffer from this. We're inflicting a whole set of values on a society which won't be wanting them."
Still from 'Genoa - We Are History' by Boudicca, 2008.
Another point of discussion: the resurgence of East Bloc aesthetics, heralded by tastemakers Demna Gvasalia, Gosha Rubchinskiy, and Lotta Volkova. Proponents of the Post-Soviet vibe seem to be mining "the ruins of a collapsed system hoping to get some useful lessons for the future," as culture writer and curator Anastasiia Fedorova writes.
"They are outside of the existing fashion structure, which is how fashion has been articulated for the last 100 years. Those people have found a voice, and found that they can get through to people without going through those old channels. Gosha and Demna are part of a generation seeing opportunities for a new system, and they are building it around themselves."
Stills from 'Skin King' by Walter van Beirendonck and Bart Hess, 2008.
The SHOWstudio platform itself has been a big part of that industry revolution. "Fashion previously was almost kept secret, shown to a few people and then drip-fed to the public through magazines. But that control has slipped from their hands," says Knight. New artist–audience relationships are inherently political. The internet has opened up channels of self-expression and made fashion more accessible, but issues of choice and power are more critical than ever in consumerism as in politics.
"I went to Parliament to talk to the Brexit committee," Knight tells us, "and it feels like we're being allowed to say something—but it makes not the slightest difference. Prior to my first engagement with Parliament, the fashion industry had no voice within Brexit negotiations at all. I can't see how the industry, which was built on cooperation within Europe, is going to survive." Without trade deals and freedom of movement secured, production is impacted, the talent pool shrinks, and international enrollment plummets at design colleges like Central Saint Martins.
Still from 'L'Envol (Take Flight)' by Betony Vernon, 2008.
"We're interviewing Wolfgang Tillmans on SHOWstudio and holding a discussion panel on Brexit," reveals Knight when prompted about future political projects. "But yes, the politicization of fashion should and will go further. I think you'll see that coming through naturally in the ways that young designers speak."
Knight references the late Future Shock author Alvin Toffler: "He predicted huge cultural shifts—that society will move on to a better place, but that in so doing there will be a lot of reactionary, retrogressive politics. Politics of fear—fear of the future. But if we are going through these difficulties now, it must be in proportion to the better society we're heading towards."

Faithvonic &Tamba Hali Conect For "Swag" | @TambaHali91
Liberian-born recording artist and former Kansas City Linebacker, Tamba Hali, released the latest Relumae Records single “Swag” from Liberian superstar Faithvonic featuring Tamba Hali. The Masterkraft-produced track finds Tamba and Faithvonic vibing to the heavily percussive Afrobeat soundscape. The video which had its broadcast premiere with BET International, beautifully captures the country of Liberia, as almost all of Tamba’s videos do. “Swag” is the second single from Tamba’s upcoming project LIBERIA, a compilation featuring entirely Liberian artists, released via Relumae Records. “Swag” is available everywhere now.
On the new track, Tamba says: "I’ve never worked with such a talented individual like Faithvonic, she’s very artistic from her wardrobe to her music, and I love her ambition about philanthropic work. I was excited to be working with her the entire time, going around a different radio station in Liberia promoting the music. I believe people will start to take notice of Liberian music because it has a distinct taste and it sets itself apart from the entire Africa, because of how the language is spoken.”
““Swag” comes fresh off the heels of “Latido,” the first new single from Tamba Hali since the release of his beautifully shot “Girl Like U” video. Shot in Liberia, the video cinematically captures the countries captivating beaches. Through working with Liberian artists on the upcoming Relumae Records EP, and continuing to shoot videos in Liberia, Tamba is aiding in the reinvigoration of the Liberian economy and its arts community one collaboration at a time.
