#art #crochet #fiber art #described images #image description in alt #used a crochet pattern for this because it's just INSANE #see i can recognize some of these stitch markings but i haven't done them all yet #i actually kind of prefer the diagram pattern because it actually shows you the shape and the way stitches compliment the piece #with a 'normal' pattern (e.g. 1 dc in fifth ch from hook ch 2 4 dc) i understand it sure but. it isn't the same.#i was reading somebodys recommendations for tapestry yarn and understood all the abbreviations and what they mean #plus i feel like diagrams can be a great way to teach you not only how stitches look but how they contribute to the larger piece #one of my crochet proficiency goals is to be able to look at a piece and know instantly what made it #*cue me at the store analyzing a crochet piece so i can replicate it for 5× the cost*#if you're selling a crocheted piece for like $20 then it's my imperative to replicate it and not buy it 🫡#i think that has the same moral implication as like... 'proplifting'#did crochet as the example because thats what i do as a fiber art. if theres a similar thing for knit/weave/ect then DROP IT BELOW I BEG YO #i want to learn all the lovecraftian languages of the fiber artists <3 #i feel like describing the image in exactly what stitch marking indicates what would have been too much so hopefully the explanation as to..#...what the diagram DOES and how it visually indicates a pattern was helpful <3

Doing fibre arts in public is always very funny because no one except other fibre artists ever has any clue what I’m doing. Like, I thought it was common knowledge what knitting and crocheting looks like? But people keep asking me if I’m knitting or crocheting when I’m doing cross stitch or tatting. I don’t expect anyone to know what tatting is or looks like but I did expect them to know it’s not knitting.

#actually checked the weather and it’s going to be in the ninties so no wool socks for me #pretty pictures come after the socks are both done #wouldn’t have been able to wear them anyway though because I’ve just remembered my plaid skirt is in the darning hoop #knitblr #knit socks #knit kilt hose #kilt hose #Highland Schottische Kilt Hose #Nancy bush #I have very thick calves and ankles and the cuff is too tight. thinking I might rip it out and reknit it on 3 mms #i remember being 8 and my friend telling me how gross it was someone she knew had ‘kankles’. didn’t know what they were but thought it was #stupid to care what your ankles look like. promptly gave me a complex about them and I ended up having ‘kankles’ anyway #it is stupid to care what your ankles look like although it’s annoying not to fit knit sock patterns 😭

#new #my art #I planned a lot of things #but now I am kinda numb emotionally #cause sister's nearly divorce crises and her husband being my best coworker #and me not managing my talks in my head lol #soooo I don't think I will draw anything for a long time #rip plans but life always happens #and maybe it a good thing #anyways #oh how I enjoyed drawing this one!#I've never drew anything bigger than like 2k pixels #and this one was meant to be printed on A3+#and the first time I did the right size for it I was like WHAT? DO? YOU? MEAN?#when I am at 100% it's only one rock at my whole screen #but then I figured out that like... I can draw details ten times moooooore #spending 8hours on one roooock!!!#MORE SPACE #and I dont know shit about proffesional stuff with exposition and placement and shadows and colours #so details everywhere as I go #and I love to think that the portal to the lake with antlers bars is portal to Augus' lake #and I wanted water snails and knitted jelly fish and kinda blanket but water themed so it's a big algue piece #and it just piled up #and the colours feel was the most relaxing thing to look at all the time #yeah #really proud of this one

look look look at this handdyed fibre I got for christmas 😊

it's 250g of a bfl/silk/llama blend

i split each braid down the middle (more or less) to hopefully preserve the colour gradient & make some 2-ply

looks like it will come out to a light-fingering-to-fingering weight :D

I was knitting a sweater during my study hall, and one of my students asked if I was going to wear it when I was done, and I said "I dunno, I've already had to start over once, I might finish it, try it on, not like it and Frog it again"

And with actual disbelief in her eyes she cried "what? No, but it's so crisp!!!"

To which the rest of us said "crisp???"

I just find it very interesting that all the labour classed as lesser (most often seen as "women's labour") becomes indispensable in moments of crisis. It's just interesting to see how quickly people turn to that labour and then discard it in moments of peace or prosperity, devaluing it until another crisis hits.

#politics #feminism #yes this is me reflecting upon the knitting and war video #it's interesting how a 'feminine' craft like knitting became recognized only in tangent to the violence of war #my feelings about this are complex but i think textile craft is a good example of what i mean #because textiles are revolutionary to humanity - just like the discovery of fire. and yet it is so often devalued #especially when it comes to profit over human welfare #look the textile artist to even stauncher hater of capitalism pipeline is real and i'm barreling down it faster than the speed of light #complex feelings on this but this is my general thesis i guess #(context: i was watching a video about knitting and how it supported war efforts in wwi and wwii)#(and while i did know a lot about the topic in that it was a huge part of war support propaganda it was still interesting)#i feel like that video encapsulated a lot of angst i have about crafting labour especially #and also by 'interesting' i actually mean infuriating and stupid
