listen. les orangefluos were a real thing. from real sixth grade. and they really did inspire my dumb user name on literally all platforms since i started using the interwebs. it’s all stemmed from that thing. from when we used to do combat de tables in 6th grade and we needed a name. and i had an orange neon gel pen. and i said orange fluo.

Friday after work came quite soon and I really had no idea where to bring her. Maybe, we could walk around and then when we wanted to eat, we could just find a place where to dine for the evening. I would show her that my improvisation was good and that I wasn’t vain nor was I a jerk. I made sure that I looked ready and presentable for the evening, before leaving to pick her up.

 I arrived at her place in a matter of minutes and once again, I was nervous. All right so maybe I was… somehow… interested in her... Big deal… I rung the doorbell and waited patiently. The door opened and I stood there gaping by what I saw.

 No, it wasn’t the director clad in some pretty gown, alas, but Jake with his hair untidy and his shirt unbuttoned and ruffled up. He leaned out of the doorframe and looked at me with a sly grin. This seemed, well, wrong. What was he doing here dressed this way at her house?

 “Oh Taro, it’s you. Hey director, your boyfriend’s here to pick you up!” He said with a giggle. Was he drunk or something? Drunken men weren’t very attractive, but he didn’t smell of alcohol.

 “He’s not my boyfriend!” She walked up to him and shoved him aside. I was happy to see her dressed properly.

 “Please excuse this man, he’s just bored and he doesn’t want me to go out and leave him alone.” She slapped his shoulder and he simply smiled at her. And what was I supposed to do in all this?

 “Shall we?” I said trying to act as normal as possible. She smiled at me and hooked her arm with mine. I could get used to this.

 “Bye Jake.” She unlinked herself and gave him a brief hug. I watched in amazement as they interacted together. One would think they were a couple on the right path to marriage. Pure perfection, but I was the perfect one!

 “Bye hot stuff, have fun without me. I’ll just be here mopping around.” The rolled her eyes and gave him a kiss on the cheek as if it was compensation. Jake simply huffed and crossed his arms. He started pouting and she rolled her eyes.

 “You really are a little kid.” I heard her say as she kissed his other cheek and gave him another hug.

 “Don’t try and be too bored. You know that’s something we do together.” She told him with a final wave. He smiled briefly before closing the door. She linked herself back to me and we walked in the busy streets of town together not really knowing where we were going. From far we looked like the typical love struck couple; except there wasn’t much love over here. She saw me as an employee at best and I didn’t really know what I saw her as.

 “So, what did you want to know about OP?” She asked me after a while. I had followed Jake’s advice wisely. He had told me that if ever I wanted to get some information out of the director, I was better off waiting for her to mention it than bring up the subject myself. I had better chances of finding out this way.

 “I wanted to know what the P stood for in the name and why you chose it.” I also wanted to know what was up with the deal about no telling me her name, but I didn’t want to venture that far. For now, I would take things nice and slow. I would let my charm work its magic.

 “Well you already know the O thanks to Jake, the P stands for pencils. That makes it OrangePencils. It’s spelled in one word but I still write it as two. I guess you want to know how I went from Orange Fluo to Orange Pencils. Well it’s a long story, but we have time. Are you ready and worthy to hear it?” As I nodded, she started telling her tale. But to know it you have to be worthy of my patience. You must wait a while longer in order to find out the meaning behind OP.
