This post popped up unexpectedly and the timing couldn't be perfect. A couple of weeks ago I wanted to give Sandman another try and picked up from the library the 1st volume with I think the first 8-10 micro stories... Imagine my horror when I went up to the counter, extended my hand and 1/3 of the pages literally fell from it, all over the counter and the floor lmao. For a moment I looked at the librarian** in horror, saying "I swear I have this curse with Gaiman's books...", luckily they just laughed and explained that this edition of Sandman comics is renowned for falling apart because of the poor binding, so it was already like that. Cue in me almost crying from relief because I really can't afford to re-buy a 250 € Sandman comics set as compensation for broken property right now (why does it cost so much if it has such shitty quality? A mistery). But now I'm tasked with putting them back together and I have a problem: the pages are not numbered, so how the fuck do I read the last 50 pages in the right order? Do I pirate the 1st volume just to know their order? Is this a sign from the universe that tells me "Stick to your hyper obsessions? Buy your own books? Stop romanticizing this hellsite's bad takes?". Dunno, message unclear. One thing's for sure: no, battered books are not fun to read AT ALL. I prefer my books to stay in one piece, thanks lol.

The other day I read a post that romanticized books that were so well loved they ended up falling to pieces, and that people who keep their books in good shape/don't break the spines/drop them into water accidentally etc. are not enjoying them fully because they're not getting the real Battered Well Loved Book Reading Experience TM.

So, today I was at the local library to pick up my next reads, especially the first italian edition of Good Omens (which imho is very beautiful). Next to it I found a very battered old copy of American Gods... We're talking about falling pages kept together only by 10 yo tape and sheer hope, dried up strands of glue sticking out, a spine so broken not even the most accomplished chiropractor turned book binder could ever hope to salvage.

I remembered the tumblr post, felt slightly guilty for being a book "snob", and decided to treat myself to the Battered Well Loved Book Reading Experience TM, so I took the book home with me, ready to change my mind.

I opened it once and it exploded like a papery petard.

I'm definitely getting the Battered Book Reading Experience TM: I've been patching it up for at least 15 minutes, so that when I return it, hopefully, it will still be in one piece, just enough so that I don't get charged with destroying library property* lmao.

I truly understand why some people like to "mistreat" their books until they're more tape than paper: you've had this faithful companion for so many years and it shows in the creases and falling pages. It's romantic and picturesque.

Word of advice though: just do not go and get this experience from library books. Treat those fuckers gently and carefully people, or they might fuck you up.

*It was already patched up where it broke, so either the person who adjusted it before me did a very poor job or the tape dried up with time.

I know that someone might object that buying a new copy is the next best course of action, but I'm not sure if they would accept it: there's a very high chance that they're keeping this copy purposefully so people don't steal it. Some books are very coveted by thiefs lol

The whitebeard pirate, um... there are a lot of crew, so I'll put Ace and marco if that okay.

"Aw, geez, it raining! Good thing I have my umbrella!" You said you just finished working at the vet. You walked holding some gift of basket, and you heard a meow, you turn to your left to see a small calico kitten, wearing a strawhat.

"Hey, kitty! Are you alone?" You said, picking the calico cat, then you saw the whole kitten running up to you. "Oh my goodness! Oh my gosh! We have a kitten problem!" You said.

You watch the kittens run around you, meowing, it look like they're cold and hungry. You can't just leave, so you decided to take all of them, there only 12 of them. So, you put them in them in the basket you have.

It was really hard to catch them, but you managed to catch them. "Okay! Let head home!" You said you finally made it back home. You let all cats out, and they started exploring around your house. You did bring some cat food and toys.

But you realize something you check what gender are they, you pick up one of the cat wearing a strawhat and the cat who is bicolor cat. And wearing an orango hat.

You check, "mhm, they're male. Well, let hope they don't all neutered," you put them down, and the bicolor cat wearing an orange hat just ran away. 'That wried...' You thought, but you ignore it and keep looking gender. It wasn't easy when all the cat just saw what you just did.

They started running and hiding, "What the!?" You said, so you captured them seeing their gender. "Okay, 2 female and 10 males." The cats were shaken what had just happened (by the way! You notice the cat have tag on their name)

"Oh! I forgot it dinner time!" You went to the kitchen to peared for dinner, some cat watch you cook.

One of them went to the cabinets, "No, luffy! You can't eat while I'm cooking, I'll do your food later." You grab luffy and put him on the ground with the rest of the cats. "Okay, done! Now it is time to feed the cat!" You grab out some cat tuna and place it in plates, two of them to share.

The cat ate really fast, "Aw geez, I should head back to bed." You went to your bedroom, some cats notices and follows you. Cat sanji saw you change your clothes and tries not to bleed his nose.

"Goodnight, kitty~" you said, shut your eyes, luffy jump to your bed and sleep next to you. The others join in too, marco sleep on your pillow.

THE NEXT DAY

You woke up, yawning. "The fuck!?" You yelled, when you saw cats sleeping on your bed. The cats jump when they hear you yell, you see Luffy on your lap, meowing of food, "Okay, luffy, I'll get you some food" you said, come out of bed and go to the kitchen.

"Here you go." You put the plates down, the cats came, you watch them eat. You drink some coffee, then you hear someone is knocking.

You check who it is, and it your friend, "Hey, (Y/N)! I bought some cake!" Said (F/N), but she leaned over. She saw that you had cats, and she gasped. "(Y/N)! You have cats! There are so many!" (F/N) sequel, you sigh.

You explained to your friend what just happened and what there name are, while the strawhat cat watched you two talking and luffy wants your attention cause last you pet him. So luffy come closer to get your attention, but you aren't paying attention.

Luffy meow, even the others want your attention. So they started climbing on you, "Um, (Y/N), ace is climbing on you," she said, trying not to laugh and almost take a picture.

You grab ace put on the ground, and Ace came and started licking on you. You shoo him away, but he couldn't stop there. After your friend.

"Oh! I forgot something! I brought you guys some gifts!" You show them some toys, and you brought meat plushy and luffy love it so much. They love it, and they love you too.

It wasn't until when you had to go work and they couldn't let you go. They just blocked the door, climbed on to you, and steal your car keys. So you have an idea, you lead them to your room, put more cat food or toys and run to the door.

When you come back from work, they climb on to you and give you kisses 💓💓💓💗💗💗💖💖💖💖.

I love flat soda. Carbonation makes me cry (literally) as in, eyes tear up.

I love fizzy stuff aghgh, but I can imagine sodas can be a huge sensory issue for some people, especially name brand sodas like sprite or cola. I can't handle them myself cus they are too much.

If you struggle with this issue but love soda, buy offbrand shit. You will always find off brand cola, sprite or Fanta. It's not as fizzy and the flavor is often stronger in sprite knock offs.

That's what my family always does. I'm out here drinking orango like it's my lifeline.

I got a fizz machine at home that can fizz up any sort of drink so I'm out here making my own soda with water, syrup and the machine.

Another controversial idea is that I love cold food, especially pizza. I feel like the flavors better then.

Of course not all food. Food like pasta becomes hard by staying out but I usually don't eat food that can't stay out for long

Warm food is a nightmare sensory issue for me. Like, my fave food from my country is cold beetroot soup.
