I decided to finally start Piofiore. I'm curious to know why people love this game so much... and Yang.🤔 So far, it’s good.😉

I started with Nicola. He’s so pretty!!!😍

I finished Nicola's route. It was a beautiful love story! I love him so much!!!💚 And Nicola x Liliana ship (they are so sweet)!🥰

But why, Roberto? He has the 3 Mafia bosses in front of him, but he wants to k*ll Nicola. Why does he hate him so much? For Liliana? He's jealous? He loves her?🤔

Yang's route is finally over………. I only have one question. Why?😳 Ok he's handsome, he has a tiny "kinda cute" side and he's horny AF. But he’s a psychopath, he’s egocentric, dangerous and unpredictable. His relationship with Liliana is completely toxic. It's good that he has fans, but it's a big NO for me.😰

I finished Dante’s route. It’s the best story in the game so far. It’s the Da Vinci Code.😆 I really love Dante, he’s my cute baby boy.💙

The love story of Dante x Liliana is amazing. It’s destiny!!! They belong together.🥰

Orlok's route is done. I had a hard time finishing his story (just like Yang). For me, their stories seemed so long & annoying…😑 Orlok’s story was still better than Yang’s.

Also, he’s really not my type... I’m not interested in boys, I want men!

I’ve just finished Gilbert’s route. OMG I love him soooooo much!!!❤️😍 I don't know if I prefer Nicola or Gilbert anymore…

His story was awesome! I like to see the 3 Mafia families unite to find the truth.😁

Henri's route and the finale are done! They were good, but I have mixed feelings about Henri. Poor guy, he suffered so much.😔 I like him, but there are so many misunderstandings in his story.

Just like Gilbert’s story, I like to see all the characters working together to find the truth!😁

After completing one character route per game (getting good and bad endings), here are my thoughts on the otomes that I’ve been playing.

These aren’t comprehensive reviews I’m giving but just quick rambles of my thoughts based on just the common route and a single character route per game.

Variable Barricade: Honestly the one that I didn’t put much thought into when I bought it. It was added to my purchase on a whim because the art looked cool and one reviewer’s description of the LIs was weird enough to stick with me. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how the game made me invest in Hibari and the whack job suitors. I think the story progression being cut up into scenes across the barricade boards was well done as it gave me varying chunks of story to read through without anything feeling like it was too short or overstayed it’s welcome. Ichiya as a first route was delightfully wild but I do worry that none of the other men will quite match the energy. But I still have faith that some fun hijinx will be delivered.

Collar x Malice: I ended up liking this game a lot more than expected. And that’s despite a lot of the translation hiccups and the weird name bug within Takeru’s route. The game balanced despair and hope quite well in my opinion. And I do love it when stories can indulge both my desire to see darkness and still lead towards a bright and happy ending. Now I reached Mineo’s tragic ending before resetting my game after encountering the name issue in Takeru’s route so I will touch on both of those. Both romances develop pretty suddenly (when you’ve got less than a month’s timeline to work with, it’s inevitable) but both still made my heart flutter. Though I believe Mineo’s route was done better. I’m also very fond of Ichika who has thus far consistently shown to have kind ideals but doesn’t quite have much experience to guide her but her desire to help gets her through it. I’m very interested to see how the other routes handle the discussion of justice and challenge the characters’ resolves.

Piofiore: Taisho Era Italy game had decently high expectations and lived up to them. I like how the game doesn’t shy away from the brutality of the mafia while still making the LIs seem good (at least for Nicola, Dante, and Gilbert. Jury is out on Yang and Orlok). While I prefer more action oriented girls like Cardia and Ichika, Liliana’s position as an innocent lady suddenly being caught up on the business of the mafia didn’t feel like she was merely a damsel surrounded by men doing all the action. She’s adapting the best she can, asking questions and putting her effort towards showing the people around her kindness. Even though she’s naive to the world, she doesn’t run from it and instead tries to understand it (to varying results in Nicola’s endings). I’m looking forward to the future routes and getting more insight on what the deal is with the church because something is up there.

Cafe Enchante: The game I looked forward to the most and, because of that, the disappointment feels stronger. The cafe setting and the magical LIs got me excited. But that common route… Oof. Granted, Code Realize also has a common route that’s eight chapters long but it didn’t feel nearly as draggy (and I am replaying Code Realize right now so I can very easily compare). And when it came time to actually do a route… the pacing for Kaoru’s was fumbled I feel. I think the route might’ve needed one more chapter to give a little more time for the romance to develop and to prevent some tonal whiplash between that and the… actual plot of the route. I think it’s a good game. The art is lovely, the themes of belonging and finding understanding despite differences resonated with me, and characters are all charming in their interactions. The pacing is the only real issue I’m having thankfully.

Since I’m sad that otome games don’t have English dubs when they get realeased in the west, I’ve decided to do English fan casts to alleviate the pain. (I get that they’re a niche genre, but let me have this)

Code Realize, Hakuoki, and Amnesia will have the same voice actors from their English dubs. One of the exception is Toma, since his voice actor is unfortunately dead. I would replace Toma’s voice actor with Mike Haimoto. Another exception is Sanosuke Harada’s voice actor since he’s been blacklisted and arrested due to grooming a 16 year old and marrying her in 2014. He’s already been replaced by Phil Hayes in the Hakuoki movies, so he’ll stay.

I’m not doing Collar X Malice at the moment since it’s getting a movie adaptation this year, and (hopefully) it will inevitably get an English dub. If it doesn’t, then I’ll do it on the future. 

The heroines are all voiced in English as well because I say so lol.

“I can’t sleep…” Orlok sighed and shuffled in the bed, trying to be careful to not wake up the one next to him.

The summer heat was making most of the nights unbearable. Orlok hated them. It made him feel uncomfortable just rubbing against the sheets. His skin was shining with sweat already.

A small gesture brought the man out of his tortured thoughts. Liliana gently grasped Orlok’s hand into hers and nudged it towards her.

“Lili, I woke you up…didn’t I?” He sighed and rubbed his temples.

“No… I couldn’t really sleep either.”

She slowly rose to a sitting position and remained silent, staring into the darkness of the room. Orlok idly wondered if there was something that Liliana wanted. He would get it for her. Anything. Anytime. No matter how much he saw Liliana every day, Orklok couldn’t help himself but gaze in awe at the one he loved. She was beautiful…She was kind…She was smart. She was perfect. She was everything that Orlok wasn’t yet she accepted him around her.

“Orlok…”

She had said his name with a small gasp, stirring something into his heart. Liliana shyly turned her head to him, keeping both arms around her chest. She seemed so reluctant in her movements. Orlok idly wondered what was on her mind.

“I-Is is all right with you…If I take my sleeping gown off…?”

“W-what?” Orlok stuttered as a deep color began painting his cheeks.

He turned his gaze away from Liliana and tried to not think too much on what that would entail.

“It’s really hot…I’m sorry. Forge-“

“No. It’s fine.”

Orlok sighed after he composed himself. They were indeed melting in that night. It was just…

“Do it. It will feel much better, Lili…I’ll just…turn my back to you.”

As he did just what he promised, Orlok realized how awkward it really was. How was he going to sleep like that… He hadn’t really thought it through. Perhaps it would be better if he just exited the room and-

His thoughts were left unfinished as Orlok picked up the gentle shuffling of clothing. Lili was really doing it…

Orlok took a deep breath and listened, musing why was his heart acting so alert about it? There was a tightness in his chest and he couldn’t stop those sinful images from dancing around his mind. Better go-

“Orlok…” Lili’s voice was soft, if not with a twinge of desperation in it.

Orlok didn’t dare move.

He wanted to ask Liliana if she was feeling all right, if she needed anything, but he couldn’t dare turn and look.

“It’s so much cooler like this, Orlok.” Lili laughed lightly and he heard the soft thud of his dear one laying back down. “You should do it too…Maybe we’ll finally get some sleep…”

Orlok didn’t budge. No way would he be able to relax and sleep like that. Was Lili out of her mind? H-He couldn’t be in her presence like that. He was not worthy of her…

He would have continued to simmer inside unmoving on his spot if he didn’t feel Liliana’s frail arms gently embrace him. In no time she was flush against his back…All of her…against him…!

“Please stay with me. I love being around you.”

Her words were always so kind. It was a blessing really that the room was dark, otherwise, Lili would have probably seen a reddened Orlok like never before. The man gasped a little, realizing how tight his pants felt. That sensation again…That had bothered him often… Orlok’s heart was beating so fast. He couldn’t NOT think of how soft Liliana felt against him. And how uncomfortable and hot were his garments…

“C-Can I…touch you, Orlok?” Liliana’s voice was just a mere whisper, a fleeting sweet plea to his ears.

“…You may.”

Orlok smiled sheepishly and reached for her waist. Lili had already lined the inside of the mask with a piece of dark material, obscuring his sight, so he had to fumble a little before he could pull her in for a kiss. The hard nose of the mask brushed against Lili's as their lips met.
