This guy missed my cool Japanese men post cause he was too young but I liked the pic, it gives me the feel of the street life we experienced and the shopping bag is from one of my all time favorite stores MUJI. They really are absolutely everywhere in both Osaka and Kyoto. Stand alone stores and within all sorts of shops, some with Resturants which served fabulous food. I started to love MUJI even more. So, I was sad (but not surprised in this economy) to read that @muji_global is struggling in a recent article in 'The Business of Fashion'. MUJI was origional started in 1980 as a private label for a supermarket chain in Japan. The intention was to offer a limited selection of low-priced products that were simple, practical items that lasted. The brand’s full name, Mujirushi Ryohin, literally means “non-branded quality goods.” At the time, Japanese consumers placed a premium on aesthetic perfection, (I'd say they still do) and produce that didn’t meet exacting standards was often discarded. Muji went the other way: One of its first offerings was broken pieces of shiitake mushrooms, sold at a discount—giving meaning to one of the company’s mottos: “lower priced for a reason.” Should read, 'good' reason. I recommend the article if your curious, it's fascinating how they are going to navigate the copycats, the customers taste differences in different countries/cultures and still try to maintain their lead (other than Uniqlo) in being a Japanese Brand with worldwide follow-ship. I'm certainly hoping they succeed!
