TRAUMA OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA is real, and it is still present in our relationship. Nonetheless, Kheeda and I fall back in love over and over as we’ve transformed before our eyes. • I met Kheeda in early 2016, off an App actually, and what attracted me to her was her mind. I love a woman who can verbally communicate, (especially in times of conflict) and she was able to place energy and emotion into writing that I hadn’t seen in a while. Our first meeting was a three-and-a-half hour conversation in TriBeCa, followed shortly by a dance to a Beres record I can’t name for our secrecy, for what seemed like a day long, and then shortly followed by a Swing-set race, by way of which, I bussed her ass terribly. She won’t concur, but see IG past for examples. • We are a quirky ass couple, hence our @quirkishtalk page name. Both awkward and humorous, although I am far more serious, & we both love style although most of my wardrobe has been stolen by her. • Kheeda looks at me like we just met, every time. I fell in love with her zest for life, her sense of humor, and Trini accent. She has a joviality I certainly do not possess, which I think is an amazing attribute of some Black women considering what they have to go through daily. It’s important to note that if more Black men really sat and listened to the stories of Black women, the healing of us as a people would start. • Too often is a Sister blamed for being crazy when she’s hurting, and has been for a long time. Too often are the emotions of Black boys and men not taken seriously, & too often do we grow up without a baton of knowledge from our previous generation, telling us what to look out for in relationships.
