Something Didn’t Agree with xer
Note: This one is very short. I just felt like writing an indulgent little emeto thing.
TW: emeto, minimal/no comfort
———
Trying new foods was always a gamble for Jamie. Sometimes it would be fine, sometimes xe would go into anaphylactic shock. Sometimes xe would get a bit of nausea, or pain, or gas for a while and then it would go away, and sometimes everything would seem fine until about 30 minutes later when xer stomach would just decide it didn’t want it anymore.
Today was shaping up to be a day for the last option.
Jamie sat next to Mark on the couch, trying to pretend to be paying attention to whatever show was on while a familiar, ominous feeling rose rapidly in xer body. At first xe had ignored it, hoping it would go away soon, but now it was clear that wasn’t going to happen.
Xer stomach turned, churned and twisted itself around. Xe felt like if xe moved, that would set it off, but xe also knew that it would set itself off eventually even if xe didn’t move. Xe decided to take the chance.
Xe jumped up from the couch and immediately xer stomach lurched, sending undigested food up into xer mouth. Xe slapped xer hand over xer mouth as xe made a mad dash for the bathroom. Xe threw the door to the sink room open, then to the actual bathroom, then made it to the toilet to let the puke pour out.
“You okay?” Mark asked worriedly from the other room.
Jamie couldn’t answer. Xe heaved and vomit gushed out of xer, splashing all over the toilet seat. Xe barely got a moment to breathe before it happened again. This was always the worst, but Jamie knew how to handle it.
Don’t forget to breathe in between. You’re going to be okay, xe told xerself.
Xe spewed more into the bowl and on the sides of it. Xe knew xe was making a mess, but xe couldn’t change positions now. It was coming too fast.
Xe hurled again. Each stream was smaller in amount than the last, but each heave more violent and painful.
With another retch, about a mouthful of bitter, chunky liquid fell weakly from xer lips. Xe spat into the toilet and breathed, hoping it was over. Not quite. Xe gagged again, this time barely bringing up anything.
Finally, xe got to take a deep breath. Xer stomach still ached, but xe knew it would get better soon. It always does.
“Are you okay, Jamie?” Mark asked again.
“Yeah,” xe answered. “I’m good now.”
Now I just have to clean all of this up…

“Card Depth Is A Presumption You’ve Got Headliners To Begin With” The UFC 220 Preview
Joey
Jan 17th, 2018
If we learned a single damn thing in 2017, it's that undercard depth has never ever mattered as little as it does these days. Look at the cards for UFC 211 and UFC 218 then explain to me why UFC 210 and UFC 219 outdrew those. Card depth and card quality matters little to MMA fans these days, opening the door to instead debate how MMA has swung from "these are all great fights!" to "this FIGHTER is all I need to see on it!" This all brings us to UFC 220 which will likely divide MMA fans into two distinct categories:
1) This card has the biggest main and co-main event! I need to see this! Everything else is just a bonus!
2) This card sucks and if you remove the main and co-main event then it's not even worth watching on Fight Pass!
Neither opinion is wrong per se. If names and fights with numbers next to those names really get ya giddy then this show is not for you probably. It is VERY VERY top heavy and that's very true as it pertains to fights 3 to 11. At the same time, you are getting THE biggest fights possible the UFC could make at this time sans McGregor. The two best HWs and the two best LHWs on the planet who are eligible to fight (side eye to Jones) are fighting. That should be enough to sell you on this show with a lot of really well put together evenly matched fights on the undercard which have high potential for drama and violence. If you're one of those fight fans who bemoans the lack of stars then you can look at fights 3-11 as opportunities for some good young fighters to step up and elevate themselves. There actually are some damn good fights beneath the surface and I'm going to try to point some of those out.
Fights: 11
Debuts: 4 (Matt Bessette, Julio Arce, Dan Ige, Brandon Davis)
Fight Changes/Injury Cancellations: 3 (Charles Rosa OUT, Julio Arce IN vs Dan Ige/Arnold Allen OUT, Matt Bessette IN vs Enrique Barzola, Jamie Moyle OUT, no replacement sought for Maryna Moroz )
Headliners (fighters who have either main evented or co-main evented shows in the UFC): 5 (Gian Villante, Stipe Miocic, Francis Ngannou, Volkan Oezdemir and Daniel Cormier)
Fighters On Losing Streaks in the UFC: 2 (Gleison Tibau, Gian Villante)
Fighters On Winning Streaks in the UFC: 7 (Volkan Oezdemir, Stipe Miocic, Francis Ngganou, Shane Burgos, Alexandre Pantoja, Enrique Barzola, Islam Makhachev)
Main Card Record Since Jan 1st 2016 (in the UFC): 23-9-2
Stipe Miocic- 4-0 Francis Ngannou- 5-0 Daniel Cormier- 2-0-1 Volkan Oezdemir- 3-0 Calvin Kattar- 1-0 Shane Burgos- 3-0 Gian Villante- 1-3 Francimar Barroso- 1-2-1 Thomas Almeida- 1-2 Rob Font- 3-2
Too High Up- Gian Villante vs Francimar Barroso
Listen fellas, I get it. They're big guys and Villante is good for a brawl with the right opponent. Francimar Barroso is not the right opponent. He'll NEEEEEVER be the right opponent. This has all the makings of a fun round one where both guys trade, a second round where Barroso smothers VIllante and a third round where two big exhausted 205ers drag balls through some awful striking exchanges and sloppy takedowns. This fight is not a PPV main card worthy fight and I say that knowing full well that that there are not many options to take its place.
Down Too Low- Sabah Homasi vs Razak Al Hassan
An argument could be made for Alexandre Pantoja vs Dustin Ortiz which I could definitely hear you out on. The problem is that on a card with a bunch of genuinely massive human beings, Ortiz and Pantoja going from the prelims to the main card would probably just get them unneccessary angst from fight fans. Stupid but it is what it is. Sabah Homasi vs Razak Al Hassan will almost certainly be a tremendous fight of the night type brawl and I'd GLADLY welcome them onto this main card which could use a bit more oompah on it.
Stat Monitor for 2018:
Debuting Fighters (Current number: 0-1): Matt Bessette, Julio Arce, Dan Ige, Brandon Davis
Short Notice Fighters (Current number: 0-0): Matt Bessette, Julio Arce
Second Fight (Current number: 1-3): 0
Cage Corrosion (2-3): Gleison Tibau
Twelve Precarious Ponderings
1- So did you know that Gleison Tiabu has been in the UFC since 2007 and he's NEVER headlined an event? Ever? Not even a free one! Dude's never even had a co-main spot! He's also JUST 34 years old which is perhaps even more amazing. I would've gone at least 10 years older without even batting an eyelash.
2- I want to use this opportunity to discuss how rare what it is we're getting here. For the first time in forever and a day, we're getting two title fights that genuinely feel like a battle of the best two fighters in their respective divisions. Francis Ngannou debuted in the UFC as an ultra raw rookie with high upside and all he's done is finish everyone he's fought from hype prospects to established veterans to top 5 heavyweights. Stipe Miocic could, legitimately, be on his way to building the greatest HW resume of the modern era with a win over Ngannou (and potentially Cain Velasquez if his body is actually capable of going through a fight camp). In the LHW division, Volkan Oezdemir has done nothing but beat top 10 LHWs since showing up in the UFC, two of those in violent dramatic fashion as an underdog. Until Jon Jones finds a way to not be some sort of fuck up, Daniel Cormier is the best LHW in the world. Simply put end of discussion. These two title fights exist in weight classes where convenience more often than not determines title shot opportunities---but these two fights are legitimately great.
3- Do NOT "get sucked" in the words of Bill Parcells. Simply put, don't even get worked into believing that either Stipe Miocic or Francis Ngannou are anything but excellent fighters in a division devoid of excellent fighters. These two guys are, without question, great fighters with skins on the wall and skills of the highest order. Don't believe Miocic was never good if he loses and don't believe Ngannou was exposed if he loses to the CHAMPION of the most hectic division in MMA.
4- Of note, Miocic has a reputation as being a fantastic wrestler. He is without question very good BUT.....the only stylistic matchup I can think of similar to what Miocic has here is when he fought JDS. He went 1-18 vs JDS in their first fight and gassed himself out spamming takedowns.
5- Curious to see how Ngannou responds to Stipe's speed because there's probably no HW who moves as well as Miocic does. It's a vastly different level of athleticism between he and Overeem.
6- We can all pretty much figure that Cormier is going to hit a wall soon. He's got decades of competing in combat sports in some form or fashion for quite a while but beyond that, his style of fighting is really not one designed for long term success. The general rule of thumb is that 37 or so is when the high level wrestler starts to break down and Cormier is 38 coming off a KO loss. This opens up a very unique challenge going into a fight vs a guy who hits really hard. Is Cormier basically burnt out from years of fighting and injuries? With Jon Jones likely to be back before we all know it, I'm assuming Cormier has to know that if he can get by Volkan, there's not really an immediate challenger who would prevent the big cash out fight vs Jon Jones.
7- DC does his best work in the clinch. Volkan seems to excel against the fence. You thinkin' what I'm thinkin' bout?
8- There are people who like to get all twisted and wrapped up in Volkan Oezdemir's UFC debut. Everybody knows it's on short notice and he gassed out. What most people DON'T know is that Volkan got the call while training to take a fight at HW so that probably had a lot to do with his general conditioning as well. He'll be at a serious disadvantage vs Cormier but I can't imagine it'll be AS bad as it looked vs OSP if we get into the 2nd or 3rd round.
9- TheAntiCool has predicted that 170 lbs is going to be the division where there's a heavy sense of upheaval with new people emerging and breaking into the top 10. I could see that but for me, I think it's 145 lbs where we're going to see a big changing of the guard. One of those figures who could potentially really take that step up is Shane Burgos. Burgos has some squintable Conor McGregor qualities, primarily in how good his hands are and how he can absorb punishment in exchange for pressure for a consistent clip before he finds you. When he hurts guys, he can either take them out or take them out of their gameplan enough to the point where he has you either 1) fighting at his pace and his range or 2) retreating and hoping he'll leave you alone long enough for you to do something to slow him down. Throw in a solid wrestling base, a great camp (Jimmie Rivera, Lyman Good etc etc) and seemingly solid cardio and you have some things that make you feel very confident in him going forward. ON THE OTHER HAND, there are some real Mike Perry qualities in his game which might make you want to hit the breaks. For starters, Charles Rosa gave him a lot of problem with volume and accurate strikes. Eventually Burgos got him when he needed to but the obvious story of the fight was that Charles Rosa had him figured out and Burgos was left trying to keep pace. You also always have to wonder about a fighter who marches forward, chin out who relies on his power and combinations to win exchanges. Calvin Kattar, in a way at least, seemed more well rounded than Burgos in his fight vs Andre Fili back in July. Both guys are good FWs but Burgos has that It Factor where you just assume he's a guy destined for bigger things.
10- At this point, what do we say about Thomas Almeida? Anybody got any ideas? At 26 years old, Almeida has steamrolled every one he's supposed to steamroll and repeatedly and incessantly bonked his skull when he's gone upwards in the division. He didn't look bad vs Jimmie Rivera and had moments of success BUT he was dropped seemingly any time Rivera landed cleanly and he struggled to exchange with Rivera without getting tagged. Rob Font is a bit like Rivera; the sort of guy who has all of the proverbial tools but simply can't get over the hump when he faces top competition.
11- Reminder that Sabah Homasi once ran off with a Bellator ring card girl after a show never to be seen again by Bellator.
12- Some of you guys might not have seen DWTCS (go watch it, it's fine and takes like an hr and 30 mins per episode) so lemme fill ya in a bit on some dudes who were on there who are debuting on this show:
Julio Arce- ROC champion and a guy who people have been saying would be in the UFC since about 2013. His two losses are to current UFC BW Brian Kelleher, trains with Jimmie Rivera and the crew at Tiger Schulman's. Pretty solid fighter although some may be higher than others on him. Beat Peter Petties on the show to get an eventual deal.
Dan Ige- Sort of came out of nowhere really. A solid Hawaiian fighter who is well rounded with good cardio. Fought Luis Gomez who is now the Titan FC featherweight champion on the show and beat him with a 3rd round RNC. Does seem to be a better fit for 135 lbs and I have concerns about how hittable he is.
Brandon Davis- Another fighter out of Alan Belcher's camp and you can see the Belcher influence in him. Sort of like a Jason Knight except his punches are a lot cleaner but he still takes plenty of damage and seems to relish getting into brawls. Dude had a tremendous fight to get a deal the night of against Austin Arnett. Didn't see a ton of grappling so that's a little worrisome.
Matt Bessette- Long time regional guy who fights on the East Coast, hits REALLY fucking hard and is well rounded given his 50 years in MMA. Lost to Kurt Holobaugh in a fight where he broke his hand/face but there's some controversy there as well.
Must Wins
1- Daniel Cormier
For me, Daniel Cormier's legacy is secure. He's in the top 5 of the greatest light heavyweights of all time and he's the second greatest LHW of the modern era. He's been a UFC champion (legitimately, if the former champ can't stop fucking up then you are the champ) and he's done some tremendous work in a short amount of time. Unfortunately I feel like I'm in the minority when it comes to the legacy of of DC. He just has to keep winning and if this is his final year in the sport then a loss to Volkan Oezdemir would be a pretty rough way to go out.
2- Shane Burgos
I feel like I've listed all of my concerns about Shane Burgos here but let's not mince words; dude is an amazing talent. At 26, he's got youth, high level experience and an undefeated record on his side. Burgos faces Calvin Kattar in his UFC main card debut and it's on a big show where he's going to get plenty of exposure.
3- Brandon Davis
The Tuesday Night Contender Series guys have lost before but most of those losses come from guys who didn't get original night contracts-----until Matt Frevola this Sunday. Davis is another guy who got a contract the night of and he faces a pretty stiff test in Kyle Bochniak. He'll have a pretty good size advantage on Bochniak and on the feet, I'm fairly certain he can piece him up as well. The downside is
Five Can't Miss Fights
1- Stipe Miocic vs Francis Nagannou
2- Thomas Almeida vs Rob Font
3- Volkan Oezdemir vs Daniel Cormier
4- Sabah Homasi vs Razak Al Hassan
5- Alexandre Pantoja vs Dustin Ortiz

I may have gotten the wrong idea about xe, but Jamie getting sick before a performance, blaming nerves until fever is appearent, and the rest of the band having to work around and tossing Jamie from caretaker to caretaker ;)
It’s Just Nerves
For context, they’re all backstage at a café that I haven’t named yet, about ten minutes before a performance will begin.
TW: fever (of course), fainting
———
“Jamie? Hellooo?”
“Huh?” Jamie said with a start.
“What is wrong with you?”
“What?”
“What is up with you? You were just staring at the wall for like thirty seconds when I was talking to you,” said Flynn.
“Oh. Nothing’s wrong. I’m fine,” Jamie lied.
In reality, xe had been feeling pretty bad for a while now. Lightheaded, cold, out of it…
I skipped lunch, maybe that’s why. Or maybe it’s just nerves.
“You’re shaking, though,” Flynn commented.
“It’s just nerves,” Jamie.
“Are you sure? Do you feel alright?”
“I mean, I feel a bit off, but…”
“Then you shouldn’t go on,” Flynn said decisively. “I’ll go get Taylor.”
“Wait, no- it’s really not that bad. I’m sure it’s just nerves!”
Flynn was already walking away, and there was no stopping him. Jamie plunked down in a chair and ran xer fingers through xer hair.
I really don’t want to be the reason we can’t perform tonight... I’m the lead singer, I can’t just “not go on.”
When xe looked up, xe saw Taylor walking towards xer, biting off a piece of a fruit roll-up.
“Hey, Jamie,” she said in her usual laid-back tone. “Flynn told me you weren’t feeling good?”
“I feel fine. Flynn’s just overreacting.”
“Really?” she questioned, clearly noticing xer shaking hands.
“Yeah, I’m just tired. And maybe a bit nervous.”
“You think you can still go on?”
“Yeah, definitely.”
“Alright then, I’m sure you’ll be okay.”
“Yeah, I’ll be fine,” xe agreed.
“Okay,” she said, then gave xer a pat on the back and walked away.
Phew. At least she was reasonable. If I can just sit here and rest until the performance, I’m sure I’ll be fine.
A headache started to set in and xe rubbed xer temples. Xe heard people talking in the distance, the music from the band preceding them, and footsteps going back and forth in front of xer, and all of it seemed too loud. There were barely any lights on backstage, so at leas it wasn’t too bright. Xe kept xer eyes closed and focused on xer breathing.
“Jamie?” xe heard someone say right in front of xer.
“What?” xe responded, not looking up.
“Are you good?” Ash asked sincerely.
“Yeah. I’m fine.”
Xe knew that wouldn’t satisfy Ash, but xe was tired of talking to people about it.
Why can’t everyone just leave me alone?
“You don’t look fine.”
“Yeah, I know I’m shaking. It’s just nerves, okay?”
“Nah, I mean, like… your skin looks different.”
“What?” Jamie asked, finally looking up at Ash.
“Yeah, it looks… pinker than normal.”
“How can you tell in this lighting?” Jamie wondered.
“It’s pretty easy ‘cause you’re so pale,” Ash deadpanned.
Jamie let out a little laugh.
“I have to give you that one.”
“Do you have a fever or something?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Can I, like, check?” they asked, holding their hand up near Jamie’s forehead.
“Ugh, fine.”
Ash placed their hand on Jamie’s forehead.
“Your body temperature is usually colder than a human’s, right?”
“Yeah.”
“You feel warm to me.”
“Oh, wow. That’s actually not good,” Jamie said, surprised. “I didn’t realize I had a fever.”
“I’ll go tell Tay and Iris. Iris will know what to do.”
“You don’t need to tell Taylor. I can still go on,” Jamie maintained.
“No way, man. You’re definitely not going on. You’d probably be burning up in human degrees.”
“Fine, you can tell her. She’s already said I could go on, though.”
“That was before she knew you had a fever,” Ash said as they started walking away.
Ash was probably right. A fever that high probably wasn’t normal. Plus, the music from the band onstage stage felt like it was blaring in xer ears. Xe could barely focus on anything other than the headache pulsing to the beat.
I can still go on, though! I have to.
Through the brain fog, xe spotted Patrick passing by.
“Hey, Pat,” xe called out just loud enough for him to hear.
“Hm?”
“Have you ever gotten a fever from nerves?”
“No, I haven’t, but I’m sure it’s a thing,” he answered. “You can get so many things from nerves, it’s crazy.”
“Huh.”
“Why? Do you feel like you have a fever?” he asked, furrowing his brows.
“No, I definitely have one. Ash checked.”
“Oh. And, uh… and you think it’s because you’re nervous?”
“I hope it is,” xe sighed.
“Oh. Have you told Tay or Iris?”
At that moment, Jamie noticed Taylor, Iris and Ash walking up behind Pat.
“Ash did. They’re right there,” xe said, pointing at the three of them.
“Oh!” Pat said, stepping aside to make room for them.
Iris immediately made a beeline for Jamie and put the back of her hand on xer cheek.
“Stop,” Jamie grumbled, pushing Iris’s hand away. “I’m fine!”
“You’re not. And I don’t think you should go on tonight,” Iris said firmly.
“Really, I can go on. I feel fine,” Jamie protested.
“Flynn told me you said you didn’t feel good, and Ash told me you had a fever, which is obviously true.”
“Taylor?” Jamie pleaded.
“Whatever Iris says goes,” Taylor responded.
Jamie sighed.
“How do you feel now?” Iris asked.
Xe knew xe couldn’t fully lie to Iris anymore because xe knew she would see right through it.
“I feel… a little lightheaded, but other than that I’m fine. I probably just need some water.”
“Ash, can you get them some water?” Iris instructed calmly.
Ash nodded and hurried away.
“So, just a little lightheaded?” Iris interrogated xer. “Like, you’re not going to pass out on stage?”
“No, definitely not,” Jamie assured her. “I’ll prove it.”
Jamie hopped up out of xer chair with the confidence that suggested xe felt great, when in fact xe felt even more lightheaded than xe did a few minutes ago. Iris and Pat hovered their hands around xer shoulders, ready to catch xer if xe swayed or fell, but xe stayed standing, even as colorful dots crept into the sides of xer vision.
“See?” Jamie prodded.
“Okay, so you can stand. That doesn’t mean you…”
Jamie didn’t quite catch the end of Iris’s sentence. It suddenly sounded like she was talking from across the room. The world started to rush away from xer, and the last thing xe felt was the sensation of falling, maybe falling to the floor, or maybe falling endlessly into a deep… peace.
•••
Xer eyelids were heavy. Xe could hear some music playing. It was oddly loud. Xe didn’t know how xe could’ve fallen asleep with music this loud going on.
“Ugh, who’s playing that music?” Jamie mumbled. “Turn it off.”
“Jamie? Did you say something?” said a familiar deep but feminine voice.
Xe could recognize that voice anywhere; it was Iris’s. But what was Iris doing in xer room?
“I’m trying to sleep, Iris,” xe complained.
“You’re trying to sleep?” Iris said, confounded. “Yeah, he’s really out of it.”
Who is she talking to?
Jamie finally opened xer eyes and found that xe was not, in fact, in xer room. Xe was on the floor backstage at the café the band usually performs at, surrounded by the whole band except Victor.
I wonder why Victor isn’t here. Wait, that’s not the most important thing to ask right now…
“What’s going on?” Jamie wondered aloud.
“Not you, that’s for sure,” Flynn quipped.
At that moment, Jamie noticed that xer head was on Iris’s lap. She was sitting on the floor just to give xer a place to rest xer head.
“Do you still want the water?” Ash said, offering Jamie a paper cup.
“Sure,” Jamie accepted it.
Xe sat up with help from Iris and took a few sips of the water.
“So, we’re supposed to be going on in six minutes,” Taylor stated.
“We can still go on and do something, right?” Flynn asked.
“If you can think of anything,” Taylor told them.
“I mean, me and Ash know a few songs we could do together,” Flynn said confidently.
“I bet Vic would be happy to do a drum solo,” Iris added.
“And Pat, maybe you could do that hurdy-gurdy piece you’ve been working on!” Ash suggested.
Pat’s eyes widened and his breathing got faster, but no one else seemed to notice except Jamie.
“I didn’t know you were working on a solo,” said Taylor, impressed. “You should totally perform it!”
“Uh… yeah, sure. Sure, I’ll do it,” Pat agreed. “I’m just gonna… go practice it.”
Pat pushed past the others and hurried off.
I hope he’s okay, knowing how he gets…
Yvonne and Ash exchanged concerned looks, apparently thinking the same thing.
“So Ash and Flynn can do a duet, Vic can do a drum solo, and Pat will do his hurdy-gurdy solo,” Taylor listed. “Yvonne, do you want to do a solo?”
“Nononono, absolutely not,” she responded immediately. “Um, Pat knows My Heart Will Go On on the hurdy-gurdy, so we could do that together.”
“Ok, great, and I’m sure Vic could provide some basic drum support on that one too,” Taylor added. “Well, t-minus five minutes, then. Everyone get ready.”
They all split up to get their instruments and such. Only Iris, Taylor and Jamie were left together.
“I’ll stay back here with Jamie and make sure he’s okay,” Taylor assured Iris. “You go and help with Vic’s drums and all that.
“Okay, yeah,” Iris agreed. “Just let me know right away if anything else happens, okay?”
“Okay, Mom,” Taylor said sarcastically.
Iris rolled her eyes as she stood up, then walked off to help the others with whatever they needed. Ash immediately pulled her aside to help with an issue with their instrument.
“Lemme help you get up into this chair,” Taylor said, offering her hand to Jamie.
Xe took it and stood up, slowly this time, then sat down in the chair.
“You alright?” Taylor whispered as the other band’s music died down and the small audience applauded.
“Yeah,” Jamie answered bluntly.
“Okay, I’m gonna go get another chair.”
Jamie nodded in acknowledgement. Taylor snuck around backstage, looking for a chair. Jamie could hear one of the band members on stage talking to the audience.
“We’ve got one more song for you tonight. It’s a bit of a long one, but we’ll have time,” a low voice said through the speakers.
Another song started, and Taylor pulled up a chair next to Jamie.
For the next few minutes, Taylor watched everyone scramble around backstage and almost got up to help a few times, but Iris seemed to have everything handled. Jamie felt so tired, xe could almost fall asleep if it weren’t for xer raging headache. Taylor checked her watch, then stopped Iris as she was walking by.
“T-minus one minute,” Taylor said to Iris.
Iris nodded and passed the message on to the rest of the band. Iris carried Victor’s drum set over near the entrance to the stage, and the other band members all gathered around with their instruments, but Jamie thought that the group looked smaller than it should.
“Is that everyone?” Jamie asked Taylor.
“No, it’s not…” she answered, scanning the group. “Patrick and Yvonne are missing.”
She stood up and told them, and then Victor quickly wheeled off to the back. He came back with the missing members just in time for them all to make in on stage on schedule.
Once Iris finished setting up the drum set and the microphones, she came back and sat with Jamie and Taylor. They heard Yvonne’s voice over the speakers.
“Hey, everyone,” she said, her voice shaking. “We’re The Swashbucklers, and uh.. our lead singer is out sick today, so we’re gonna do something a bit different today. We’re each going to do something we have been practicing. Flynn and Ash are going to go first.”
The music sounded great. Flynn and Ash’s duet, Victor’s solo, and Pat’s solo were all amazing original pieces. During Yvonne, Pat and Victor’s performance, Jamie dozed off a bit, but that was basically a compliment because it was a calming song. Xe woke up to the wonderful sound of applause.
———
So you may have noticed something was going on with Pat… and that’s going to be my next story! It’s going to be this from Pat’s perspective. I’m so excited ahhh

Hello!
I post stories with my original characters & world here. If you liked my fanfics on @online-single-player, you’ll probably like these too.
I write mostly whump and sickfics but I might also do some backstory type things for my characters here at some point.
I will take requests/recommendations here! You can request them with specific characters or leave it up to me. If your request is very specific I may have to change some details about it so that it fits in canon. It also may take me a while to post your request because I only write when inspiration strikes me, but honestly requests help me a lot with getting inspiration so I really appreciate them.
My boundaries for requests are set out in this post on my other account:
My favorite things to include are emeto, fainting, and I also enjoy delirium and blood loss (but I try to use that one sparingly bc I don’t want to leave all my characters covered in scars lol). I do try to diversify my work though, so feel free to request other injuries/symptoms than those.
I generally don’t like a lot of gore, but sometimes my writings can get pretty intense or life-threatening for the characters. All of them will have trigger warnings at the top. If you read one and there’s a trigger in it I didn’t list, let me know and I will add it.
Here’s my master list of all my stories:
I will sometimes do introduction posts about my characters and I’ll update them every once in a while. Some of them include a list of stories that character is in. They will all be tagged with “osp character intro”.
Feel free to make fanart based on my characters, but please keep it smut-free. I don’t want any of my characters in 18+ content. Romantic or platonic shipping is ok. If you do post fanart or headcanons or anything like that, @ me or send it to me because I’d love to see it (as long as it’s appropriate and tagged properly)!
The art in my banner was drawn & colored by @idlyingabout and then edited by me
I hope you enjoy my work!

Jamie’s band
Intro to Jamie’s band, The Swashbucklers!
They’re an indie band that does live gigs sometimes and releases their music on streaming platforms. They call the type of music they make “pirate rock.” They all go to the same college but not all of them live on campus.
For each one I listed their role in the band, their main personality trait(s), any reason they might get sick or hurt often or that they’re usually a caretaker, and then a picture of them made with picrew.
I’ll do full introductions for them at some point but for now enjoy this. Also feel free to request stuff with these characters.
Jamie (xe/they/he)
Lead singer
Skater & thrill-seeker
Has lots of allergies & food intolerances, has photosensitive epilepsy, and is often reckless

Yvonne (she/her)
Backup singer
Timid & shy until she’s on stage
Doesn’t get sick or hurt often
Usually a caretaker, very good at comforting people emotionally but doesn’t know what to do medically so she doesn’t enjoy being a caretaker but does it anyway
Victor (he/him)
Drummer
Punk rocker frat boy, dating Taylor (his legs have been paralyzed since birth)
Careless about his health, does dangerous things, eats stuff way past the expiration date
Tries to help people, but doesn’t really know how
Flynn (he/him)
Electric guitar
Gay af, very confident
Has an overactive immune system so illnesses usually hit him harder than they would for others, faints at the sight of more than a drop of blood
Sometimes a caretaker, acts like he knows what he’s doing but he really doesn’t
Ashton/Ash (he/they)
Electric bass
D&D nerd
Gets semi-frequent migraines, gets motion sick in cars & airplanes
Sometimes a caretaker, cares about their friends more than even themself
Patrick/Pat (he/him)
Hurdy-gurdy (yes that’s a real instrument)
Passionate about his instrument and his friends
Overworks himself a lot, often has panic attacks before shows or in other stressful situations
Not often a caretaker, usually panics if he’s forced to take care of someone
This is all of the band members in their outfits they wear for performances
Made by @idlyingabout by commission
Taylor/Tay (she/her)
Music producer/sound mixer and manager
Hippie & party gurl, dating Victor
When she drinks she drinks a lot, otherwise doesn’t get sick or hurt often
Always a caretaker for Victor if she’s there, and usually a caretaker for anyone else as long as she’s not drunk
Iris (she/they/he)
Live show tech support and assistant manager
Most responsible one of the group
Low blood pressure, so she gets lightheaded easily, but knows how to take care of herself so she usually doesn’t faint
Usually a caretaker, usually knows what to do to help people
All stories with the whole band or in a situation/setting related to the band will be tagged with “osp the swashbucklers.”
Pls request some! Whatever your sickfic/whump fantasy is, I’ll find a way to write it with these characters, or Jamie’s sister Cindy, or xer college roommate Mark. Or even Mark’s girlfriend Kiki. But I love these guys already so pls request stuff with them lol

Postanowili zrobić zrzutkę i wspomóc swojego kolegę. – Chcemy, aby w nasze ślady poszli inni. W końcu jesteśmy jedną wielką strażacką rodziną – mówią dzielni ratownicy źródło informacji: FAKT Author:
