“A date?” she asked, eyebrows moving up in a display of surprise before they came together in a confused frown “Like a date date?”. Al’s suggestion to go out together shouldn’t have been so difficult to process for her, and yet it was. The pair had been doing that dance together for a while, behaving more like a couple than Tara would ever like to admit. They ran into each other a lot, mostly because they let the other know where they would be. Meeting like that felt more casual and no-strings-attached for the girl and that was fine, it made her feel like her heart was a little less compromised. The two of them even stayed over and slept on the same bed, kissing, touching, holding each other. There had been no sex yet because the professor was quite the gentleman when he wanted to be. Still, most nights they went to their respective homes, her apartment was still pretty much her territory and Alphonse’s place was still his own. For her, that helped the lines from blurring together.

Last night Al had dreamed his life was somewhat normal. Though he had been young when his mother passed away, he could see remember her soft eyes, and the creases just below them from lack of sleep. She worked most nights so that she could be home when Al would wake up. He also remembered the curvature of her cheeks, and the way they raised when she smiled. Eloise Bellard was still very much alive in this dream. Alphonse had always wondered what it would have been like to know his mother, to have watched her grow old and be there when he got married someday. But his mind began to drift to Tara and the feeling of her lips ghosted over his own. It was like he was being kissed again, though in the back of his mind Al knew this was just his dream and things could never be this easy. The kiss was sweet, tender, and light against his lips, and it felt a little too real to just be a dream. 

Al woke up a bit startled to realize the kiss was real, and Tara’s lips were against his own again just as they had been last night. He was quick to respond, letting his hand rest against her cheek while the other pushed long strands of curly hair from her face. “Good morning to you too. Is that gonna happen every time? Or were you trying to kill me?” He was of course suggesting Tara might have been trying to cover up his air ways so he would suffocate, but he doubted she’d save him from a gunshot wound just to kill him now in her bed.
