A kitchen window is such a happy place to be. Light shining in on a sunny day feels so fresh and clear. What a cozy spot this is and I really believe it’s because of the cabinetry. A bowed front cabinet for the sink is unusual and so custom @designed_and_made // We shot this for a magazine editorial and I love the #propping little green tomatoes on the window sill and fresh hydrangea on the counter. Stacks of my black and white boxes and bowls bound for shelves above. // I can smell the scented geranium in the pot to the right and I can see a pair of scissors poking out of a container above that. Those are a pair of scissors a friend gave me years ago. I think they were his mother’s. Forget the expensive indoor wreaths this season, and opt instead for affordable little sprigs of fragrant pine. We are all influenced by each other aren't we? This wall reminds me of a hotel we stayed in during a Berlin trip. This #countertop reminds me of a local stylist - I think she was putting down a #terrazzo floor. The rug I picked up in Atlanta propping for @Target - it was antique heaven. // #Largeformattile - it's a thing right now and here we alternated the sizing to give this a more American appeal. I did imagine this to be an apartment somewhere and even let my mind wander to East Berlin. We have just finished staging three homes. The first sold in 20 days. The second received an offer in 27 days and now the third is just days on the market. Staging can also include remodeling, cleaning and repairing. With over 20 years of experience, we are available in the Twin Cities metro and surrounding five state area to help you sell or update your home. // This was an #editorial shot and we #staged the cabinetry with local artisan finds. @amyriceart is one such artist and @northernclaycenter is another. I remember this shot for the original boat painting, the shape of the pale blue vase and the reeded glass in the cabinetry. I loved every one of those elements and together they exemplify a #lakeside story. // The other element that I found with one of my favorite assistants - Nate - was the carved cork lidded container on the counter. What a fun day we had traipsing around the Hopkins antique stores and I remember right where this was when we found it. I’m obsessed with space. I love to puzzle things together in a visual, in a cabinet, in a layout, even in the back of my truck. Placement is everything for #visualbranding and I love to figure out the most functional and well designed placement of cabinets and countertops. // This is an extremely compact kitchen I designed for condo sized space. It was tiny, so the dining area had to be combined with the dining area with the kitchen. There wasn’t room for an island so I designed and built this “sliding” table. It can function against the outer wall as more counter space or pulled into the kitchen as a table top. // I built this entire sliding unit out of quartz material so it had to be cantilevered with industrial hardware. The cabinet manufacturer worked with me to create the sliding functionality. I squeezed in the extra drawer storage on the side of the island for flatware, linens and other kitchen implements. Of all the kitchen’s I’ve designed this is perhaps the “beefiest”. The whole design was created for a couple who cater. Wood fired pizza oven? Check. Biggest refrigerator? Check. Extra drawer refrigeration? Check. And don’t forget the multi-case, two zone wine refrigeration and butler’s pantry. Working gourmet all the way. // I love three quartered walls - meaning the tile comes up three quarters of the way to the ceiling. I really love the scale and the wide open quality of the space. The honed quality of the tile is a stunning accent for the modern #farmhouse look. // The oversized island was a request to house two refrigerator drawers stacked underneath. What's new in countertops? It's called boxing. Here we enclosed a countertop area by creating a box around the perimeter. It's a new way to finish off cabinetry and to create a focal point in a kitchen. It's also a great way to keep a sink area clean and cabinets from water damage. // I love the pop of blue against the grey because it's unexpected. That blue vase is a found piece from the greek revival period in the 60s. That contrast and the fact that this piece is unique makes the kitchen visually interesting. // Herringbone patterns are timeless but the twist here is creating it with an elongated tile. This ceramic tile is the perfect shade of grey or gray. It's not too cool toned and it's not too warm toned. Times change don't they? When we shot this window - the color white was the hot trend color in windows. Anything and everything we designed had white windows. Now, just about everything we design has black windows. Black feels new, modern and fresh. White will always be classic. // This is a @Marvin slider window. It slides open by unlocking the hardware on the center where the two panes meet. The reason we chose this window for our design was how contemporary it looked. One side of the window is the moving, or operable side. That panel tilts for easy cleaning. // We shot this kitchen three times. The Chevron pattern. Ever so popular for centuries. Here it is in classic #calacattagold #marble in a giant backsplash we designed for an open format #navy #kitchen. We created this kitchen with wide open countertop space for creating amazing meals. I imagined mixing up a pitcher of cocktails and some focaccia bread sandwiches layered with grilled vegetables from the garden. We made those sandwiches with chicken the day of the shoot and wrapped them in white parchment paper. // We could have easily made kipper snacks because I was inspired by the scandinavian shoreline at the time. We needed to stay #farmhouse focused so we decided on an east coast #saltbox #cottage with the @pella window selection. Can you imagine the white clapboard exterior sitting on a rolling hill in Vermont? I can, too. // Brass Beauty. In the Pella window you can see the little beehive knob and the sheen of the brass handle. This room needs a vintage rug which is near the top of my list and I want to change the art eventually but for now this is our new living room. The chairs I scored off Next Door and I love the green but sadly the upholstery isn’t in the best shape so will be replaced and these are meant for when I score the magical dining table I have in my head anyways. So I’m on the hunt for one awesome statement chair to go with one I plan to refinish that was my fathers, original 1960’s Danish sling chair that needs to be stripped and an entirely new chair back replaced. Yes I know the value will plummet but in this case it’s 100% sentimental. It’s the only piece of MCM we had growing up and it was relegated to the basement which is where us kids mostly hung anyways. My father passed away when I was 18 but I’d of loved to have found out more about how he would of decorated our house, (and lots of other things). He was excellent at DIY’s he made us all sorts of stuff from doll beds to fully outfitting the house in surround sound! Doing a bunch of DIYs for this house lately has made me think about him more and more.
