I love Kit/Jade so so much, like I think it’s the most I’ve fixated on a fictional ship ever, but it is INSANE how easy it is to slip into writing the Kit/Elora relationship as potentially romantic. Literally all the puzzle pieces are there - destined to be your protector?? Hello??? I have never believed in anything my whole life, I believe in you?!!! If someone said that to me I would melt. I love the idea of the three of them having a little something going on so much.

This post has been a long time coming, and here it finally is. Willow, and more importantly, the Willow Fandom, changed my life, so, thank you all for everything!

Now Presenting…

How to Get a Girlfriend by Watching Willow 2022:

Step 1. See gif of Kit on top of Jade when she was saying goodbye like on Pinterest.

Step 2. Figure out the name of the show with the hot girls.

Step 3. Rewatch the original Willow.

Step 4. Watch Willow 2022

Step 5. Realize that the feelings about other women that you have been suppressing since you were 17 are coming back to bite you in the ass.

Step 6. Reject compulsory heterosexuality.

Step 7. Call your best friend in a panic.

Step 8. Try for weeks to try to get anyone you know to watch Willow. Fail.

Step 9. Sign back into an old tumblr account and start following people just as obsessed as you are.

Step 10. Read horny fanfic. A LOT of hot horny fanfic.

Step 11. Get your best friend so fed up with you that she invited you to an LGBTQIA+ friendly community event more than an hour away just so she doesn’t have to be the only person hearing about Willow anymore.

Step 12. Make lifelong friends!!

Step 13. After several months of trying to convince people to watch Willow literally steal the TV hookup and force people to watch it.

Step 14. Share the link to the Free Willow website in the Facebook group chat so everyone can watch more episodes.

Step 15. Get private Facebook message from girl wanting to talk about Willow.

Step 16. Make friends with said girl and get a huge crush.

Step 17. Start hanging out outside of group events.

Step 18. Be awkward.

Step 19. Continue to be awkward for several months until one half of the friend group pulls you aside, and one half pulls her aside and endure an intervention.

Step 20. Ask girl on date. (She says yes!!)

Step 21. Go on date and realize that despite the fact that there are over 12 years of university between the two of you, that you both read dozens of the same articles on Reddit and Quora about how to act on a first date, since neither of you have had one before.

Step 22. Get mutually pissed off at the lack of official peer reviewed research on how to have a healthy relationship. Decide to work on writing and publishing together. (So far, the only thing actually peer reviewed is our relationship, which only started due to peer review.)

Step 23. Make plans for more dates.

Step 24. Be happy!!!

Step 25. Realize that communication is hard and misunderstandings suck after reading more horny Willow fanfic.

Step 26. Write 5 page love letter in proper MLA Epistle format and give to girl.

Step 27. Become official girlfriends!

Step 28. Receive photos of her extensive collection of swords and blades.

Step 28b. Implode. (Like seriously. It was SO hot.)

Step 29. After being girlfriends for two months, bring up Willow again and find out that she doesn’t actually care that much about Willow?!?!?!!!! She likes it but was mostly using it as an excuse to talk to you?!?

Step 30. Consider breaking up with girl (not really!!) because she isn’t actually as obsessed with Willow as you are.

Step 31. Decide to share your gratitude with the ongoing Willow fandom for changing your life instead of worrying about making everyone in your life love it as much as you do. 😂

Okay cool! Ever since you told us that the next chapter is a Kit-POV and that her real pain is going to start there I've been thinking. Because Alavesh said in the last one that no one is not allowed to lay hands on Kit anymore. That kind of made my brain collapse in on itself because … where will the pain come from? (afraid)

So I'm thinking.... magic? Maybe no one is allowed to touch Kit anymore but Alavesh uses some weird-ass magic on Kit (maybe some psychological stuff similar to "Tell Me When It's Over"-fic by @ourlonelymoon)

Of course it could also be that Aldis just can't keep his temper. I'm not sure I'm prepared for any of the above…

Yeah, you're close. Alavesh is bound and determined to get Kit to the Crone alive. Her companions have not been so gentle, and while she didn't mind them knocking her around a little, she's not gonna stand for anything more serious. Not anymore now that she almost died. So Alavesh puts a 'don't hurt Kit' rule down.

But that rule doesn't necessarily apply to Alavesh...

I've been rewatching Willow again for research purposes, and I just finished the last episode and I was thinking about how cool the colours of all the magic was. And then I thought, oh my god Elora's magic is always turquoise, why did I make it purple in Tell Me When Its Over? I genuinely cannot find any explanation for why I did that and now its this irritating little scratch in my brain.

So I will in fact be changing ALL magic colour references in the fic because I can't live with myself.

Also on this note do we think Elora and Willow have the same colour magic? I spent the whole episode trying to judge whether one was turquoise and one green.

One thing I didn't truly realise until I started writing fanfiction, is how good for you it is. And it took writing an angsty Tanthamore fic to realise it.

Like, I have loved writing since I was a little kid: I planned this whole series of dragon books when I was 9 (only the first got written), I write poems, and I journal every night. But it's not what I do - my main focus, my day-to-day, is very very STEM heavy. Writing is my hobby, my outlet. It was just for me.

And then I started posting my works and I was writing about characters in different realities, characters than I love, rather than people I knew and my own personal pining. It uncovered this whole other layer of escapism that I, even as someone already using writing as an escape, hadn't realised was there. It became a catharsis.

Tell Me When Its Over has elements of myself, in that I think it's impossible for a writer not to leave traces between their sentences, but it's another fic that has really hammered this home for me.

I have a half written, unpublished fic called An Ode to Letting Go sitting in google docs that I started writing just over 6 months ago. When I started it, I was dealing with the end of a summer fling with an ex-girlfriend (lots of history, messy, emotional, good and bad) that ended when I wasn't really ready for it to. We were friends before and after, but I've always said we weren't very good at or very committed to being truly platonic. The basis of the fic is Jade and Kit as ex-childhood-sweethearts, turning into this toxic on-and-off couple, sort of by mistake, as they try to deal with their outgrown love for each other. It is, undeniably, a story about my own relationship, albeit adapted to work for the characters.

And this is my point, because I wrote myself an ending. I gave the characters their motives, and I got them to explain, and they didn't end up together but they were happy. It was this accidental love letter to myself to show me the light at the end of the tunnel when I was miserable. Yesterday, I reread it for the first time in months and it sounds cringy but I could feel the growth in myself. There's a high chance that this fic will sit unfinished for the rest of my life because I don't need it anymore, but if it ever gets shared there is real peace in knowing that I can give other people these parts of me. And that is the magic, I think, of fanfiction and writing in general - how it can show you who you are, and heal you. When we exchange fics it's like we're all shouting out "Look at this piece of me in this character! Show me where you are.", and I think that is so so lovely.

So I am very, very busy right now and that means Tell Me When It’s Over is on a bit of a pause. Rest assured I will return, but writing can’t be a priority for me at the moment. I’ll still pop up on tumblr occasionally with little things, so keep an eye.
