While everyone has been busy celebrating Valentine’s Day, Westminster has seen major progress in its debate on NHS reform. Prime Minister Sunak and his cabinet, alongside other backbencher MPs the Conservative Party such as Sir Liam Fox and Theresa May have been pushing for less taxation. Instead, they support a flurry of alternative solutions, such as better allocations of funds and possible privatisation of the NHS. 

What seems to be even more appalling is that the Leader of the Opposition and the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer have been largely silent throughout this issue, even during Prime Minister’s Questions, which usually sees Starmer going head on with Sunak.

According to a recent poll, three-quarters of voters specifically fear that an increase in the use of private companies by the NHS would result in corners being cut (76%), the use of less-skilled staff (74%), and healthcare systems becoming more disjointed or fragmented (77%). Pursuing the privatisation route in the NHS could do more harm than good to the Tories, as they may lose a large population of their voter base, especially swing voters.

In other news, the Under Secretary for Public Health, Start for Life and Primary Care has urged Parliament to consider giving in to NHS Staff unions. Only time will tell if the other members of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet will support this movement. Many voters are also confused as to why certain solutions proposed by various MPs have questionable Genration-Alpha acronyms. Unfortunately, all of Generation Alpha are under the legal voting age, hence efforts made to pander to that audience are in vain. Credits:

Happy 72nd Birthday NHS. Its a bit battered and bruised, but it's still going, albeit with a bit of a limp. We need to keep an eye on what happens with it because as soon as they think we won't resist, it'll be sold off. Public support is it's only protection and once it is gone, no government in the world is going to stump up the funding to bring it back. Our NHS is the best thing this country has ever produced and we need to fight for it to the last damn open hospital. Here's to the next 72 years.

Essential reading before you go to the polls on Thurs 12th Dec. If you know people who do or you work in the NHS yourself you will know the strain but this is shocking! How dare Boris and his government do this to these people all for political posturing. Painting walls, making cleaners pick up leaves, hiding dirty laundry, removing a consultant who will not allow the PM in the ward and blackmailing a hospital into agreeing to let Boris visit by granting funding they have requested for five years with a snap of their fingers. How dare they visit and stress out already frayed staff and force people to meet him and drink cold tea for a photo opportunity instead of letting them see to their patients. We must fight to save the NHS from destruction. The threat is real. It is happening now. Hospitals, GPs, mental health, ambulance and community services are on their knees.

Average waiting times for someone referred to a Gender Identity Clinic in England have risen to between 12-18 months, according to UK Trans Info, as the NHS struggles to cope with the increase with referrals having almost quadrupled in 10 years, from 498 in 2006-07 to 1,892 in 2015-16.

Private companies are gaining an ever greater foothold within the NHS. Years of pay restraint has seen the value of NHS staff salaries reduce by 14% since 2010. The Government’s Sustainability and Transformation Plans are a smokescreen for a massive programme of hospital and community service closures, and are its latest instrument for privatisation.

In the last year, 3% of gay men and 5% of bisexual men had tried to kill themselves compared with 0.4% of all men. Over the same period, 7% of gay and bisexual men had deliberately harmed themselves, compared with just 3% of all men.

Mental health issues were even more acute among younger gay and bisexual men: of those aged 16 to 24, 6% had tried to take their own life in the last year and 15% had harmed themselves. Domestic abuse was another serious problem: half of those surveyed had experienced at least one incident from a family member or partner since the age of 16, compared with 17% of all men.

Some cancer protocols are sex/gender-specific based on assumptions about what body parts men and women have. It is difficult to know what to recommend for trans people.

The NHS is one of our greatest achievements. We cannot allow it to be undermined and ultimately destroyed. Join us on Saturday 4 March and send a clear message to this Government.
