Nature study is a fancy term for “get outdoors and enjoy nature with your kids.” As much as we love traveling to new bucket list locations, we also love getting outdoors and exploring - learning about the world around us. We intermix our international travels with trips to US National and State Parks. Our ancestors were farmers and lived off the land and we’re raising brown children that love hiking, camping, skiing, fishing and adventure. My mother still keeps a pretty impressive garden and loves getting her hands dirty. Home education affords us the opportunity to explore trails, learn about insects, investigate vernal pools and even come across snakes. In past years, I’ve incorporated nature study with formal curricula, but recently decided that we were going to just get outside often. Do you hike and explore nature with your kids? Which are your favorite National Parks or trails?
