cheavy ramblings

Been thinking about the stinky BLU classic heavy from the comics lately. He's basically the villain of the final issues, and was practically built to be unlikeable from the start so his defeat could be more satisfying; buut since its been years since an update came out and I am slowly going insane, I think it would be funky to explore him more (bonus cmedic feature)

Few disclaimers: I'm not excusing his actions (I myself think hes a bitch) and I do NOT ship him with tf2 medic (also I dont think tf2 medic is unmasked cmedic bc 1)why would he sabotage himself in the issues by acting like That 2)uhh reasons later 3)this panel) also some of my takes aren't original, but I've expanded on em a bit

P1: Medic hater activities

As we all know, cheavy's greatest sin was dunking on + killing tf2 medic

Somehow he and tfc demo got sidetracked by medic's question, but the most hostile he gets towards tf2 medic here is jeering at the fact that they're going to hunt down his old team; which tf2 medic doesn't seem bothered by.

( @number1yisuchongfan actually brought this up before me) This panel pretty much sums up why cheavy is pissed: medic was implied to have a record of being weird with parts (he lost his license bc he stole a man's skeleton), he blew ALL of his budget meant for healing on exotic parts (that he put in cheavy's teammates), AND he revived the enemy (said enemy slips away a few panels later just as cheavy gets informed that three of his mercs died).

(also, the weird p3do tfc scout and soldier arent included in the 'three good men', since they died much later) Speaking of the 'good men' comment-

P2: Good leader at some point?? Not anymore tho

Hes gruff and an ass, but cheavy has a soft spot for his team; the tf2 mercs call each other strictly by their classes, but the tfc ones know each other names (also see cheavy's way of describing his dead teammates and his immediate reaction to go over there rather than curse/assume their incompetence)

He gets curious about australium, and from here on out he gets fixated on it- enough to be more unreasonable than usual. Cheavy is pretty amicable with Bea, and the way he acts with her is probably more in-character for what he was like back in his prime rather than the hot-tempered man that the later panels show.

I mean . He and his team were highly recommended and even took out ALL of the admin's elite teams, leaving the tf2 team for last. He may be a drill sergeant, but I don't think he was a genuine tyrant for most of his career; they aren't purely business-basis with each other (some of them formed close bonds, like fred and virgil), plus- any elite team would be able to capitalize on an overly prideful and control freaky leader (+a constantly demoralized team) sooner.

With three of his mercs dead and his plans failing against a team that he saw as rejects, the mental strain is showing badly. Tfc mercs don't have much personality in their games (or their own comic about them during their prime) but one of the few dynamics mentioned is between the Heavy and the Engineer+Medic. Tfc engie is the one who stepped up to ask about cheavy's plans, and he also gets the brunt of his anger. Earlier, cheavy answered bea's question and encouraged her, but now he's yelling and mocking the capabilities of one of the men he coordinates with the most.

Tfc scout's line may just be him not understanding/underestimating australium (esp since apparently cheavy had to ask grey mann what it even did), but it also reads as him seeing cheavy having officially gone off his rocker; his shaky grasp over leadership might kill the team before being deprived of yellow rocks does. Both scout and engie are thrown off by his attitude, implying that cheavy isn't usually like this (I can't imagine them being coordinated if they all shrimp away like that).

His line of thinking for both of these situations are pretty questionable. For the first one, he knows that the bots extract australium from the body, but he also knows that the mercs likely have nothing in them anyways (note the emphasis on his dead mercs, this is him taking revenge but also he is NAWT going to get any australium for those extra immortality machines which is still a pressing issue for his engie). In the second one, he first tells medic that they'll try figuring out how to stitch the machine on him, which leads to medic stabbing him and cheavy retaliating. Cheavy then goes all the way with attempting to kill him, stating that he'll just gets his answers from the administrator. Its soon revealed that he wants to fight tf2 heavy, but even that is ??? Like cheavy knows that he and his team are old as hell, but he's going to try having a fair fight with a guy in his prime anyways? He didn't even know that he could just slap on the machine at the time, and the unnecessary risk for what seems to be a quest to satisfy his ego is antithetical to his supposed goal of getting the rocks and making his team immortal. At this point, his hatred of medic has completely overridden his rationality; there were many ways for him to have killed both of them, yet he didn't take em.

P3: Cmedic

I saw some posts abt how cheavy is likely coded as homophobic due to how he treats medic (a presumably gay-coded character) bc of the "stay in the kitchen"-esque dialogue, and the way cheavy undermines him in verbal + physical ways. I do not have a very solid defense for this . aside from everything I listed before.

Just to clarify, I think its cheavy's fault for alienating medic from the start: loss of medical license aside, medic's inventions DO work splendidly for healing. Would it have been more concerning since medic is . meant to heal? Maybe. But mercs are literal murderers for hire, personality quirks should be the last of their priorities. The guy is passionate about showing off his stuff, and he was even enthusiastic about getting on the battlefield and healing cheavy. I'm not saying medic was going to be 100% loyal, but he's willing to do his job for the classics as long as he wasn't disrespected so damn much.

The tfc mercs with personalities are ones that oppose their tf2 counterpart; tfc sniper is a sadist rather than a swift professional, tfc pyro is...also a sadist rather than having tf2 pyro's misguided bubbliness, and cheavy does not respect his team's (current) medic. This in conjunction with the complete and utter lack of not just presence but also mention of tfc medic leads to the popular belief that the guy just up and left because of the disrespect.

(Writing inconsistencies be damned I like to cope) so what if it wasn't the case?

These are one of the few lines in tfc that describe a cooperative nature between certain classes. Like I mentioned earlier, tfc has less media compared to tf2 so its easy to slot personalities onto them as villains (tfc sniper's gun blowing people into giblets kinda helps), but I don't think these can be ignored. Fred was the one who represented the rest of the team's opinions to cheavy, and the phrasing in the second pic is even stronger; the heavymedic duo was always a thing, even in tfc.

Sort of. Gameplay-wise, cmedic is more like a roided out scout armed with a medkit that can give enemies and disguised spies tuberculosis, grenades that can send him across the map, and a gun that can destroy sentries (situational). He doesn't need to cling to his more offensive teammates as much as tf2 medic, and while his kit can instantly heal a teammate to full no matter the percentage + give overheal- its strictly melee ranged and has no ubercharge. In a narrative sense, cmedic would most likely oppose tf2 medic as a more 'grounded' healer. He prevents damage to his team by erasing enemies himself, doesn't go too overboard with his biochemical arsenal (his brew is potent but hes stuck with the melee-ranged kit and no crazy mechanic like uber), and can typically run off by himself (provided he isn't jumped by two soldiers or smth). Its a matter of game design, but can translate to the comics in an interesting way.

Medic is the only one who speaks of cmedic, and while the mention itself has no violent reaction- no one else speaks of him. I can't imagine him being easily forgotten since the heavymedic duo is just too iconic, so what if smth exceptionally horrible just happened to him? If cmedic was close to cheavy than everyone else, his loss/disappearance could explain cheavy's immediate dislike for tf2 med; not only replacing his own med, but with the complete opposite in terms of personality as well.

(I could expand on cmedic more, but this post is already long enough as is so I'll probably just make a separate one gah)

angeleyes: farmboy who ran away from his folks' ranch and Uber religious town to join the ncr and turns out he's a realllly good shot so he's put in first recon but after the second battle of hoover dam that boy ain't been right in the head. like he came to the Mojave: twink, "straight and saving myself for marriage 😇", non smoker, non drinker, happy, polite, kinda naïve 💀 had all his fingers. and he's gonna leave the Mojave: twunk, "straight but who cares sex is sex even if it's with two men", can't function without his flask, jaded and kind of at odds with his religious upbringing, missing half of his fingers from one hand, and an NCR ranger with a shiny little medal.

gael 'bloodbag' saltillo: he's a merc! a really fucking weird one at that. got nickname because he's almost always lugging around a sack with some bleeding limb or head as proof of a job done. mega asshole and has little to no morals. he'll kill anyone and it's not just because of the caps. has cannibalistic and other tendencies but shhhh. nobody really knows wtf is his deal just that he's never clocked out of his shift at the hater factory. has the prettiest eyes and it's such a shame because he's such a bloodthirsty dick! hates the ncr and the legion but still does jobs for both of them 💀

alcaldesa anhelo de los soleados: yes she has a whole title because she's her. mayor of her people, the soleados who have roots from mexico and whose culture respects deathclaws a great deal. she's always plotting and very very cunning. is the youngest to ever be mayor of pueblo (the soleados' village) because she had to step up and take her father's place after he was murdered by some powder gangers. as a result of that she doesn't really fw the ncr 💀 she'll do anything to keep her village and their culture and livelihood thriving and independent even if that means trying to form some sort of alliance with the legion (espoiler)

aspen: he's dirty. so fucking greasy and bloody and dirty and is like 3 inches tall. is missing an eye and part of his ear and is actually kinda smart. he's from near waco and near the texas branch of the bos 🥸 he's realllllly handy when it comes to old world tech and tinkering. big time scavver and he's a huge prewar filmbro, always on the lookout for prewar holotapes and media. dean domino fan (whos gonna tell him). he loves collecting vault tec shit. has beef with Ralph from freeside but it's like a friendly little frenemies rivalry thingy because of their tech skills. he's kinda...kinda ghoul and supermutant racist ☠️ like he doesn't mind being around them but he does. he won't be insulting them or waving a flag or whatever but there are subtle signs 🥸

If you like teams, what team do you pull for? i am a fan of the more historical side of f1, so i am nostalgic for williams (even tho i wasnt even watching and/or alive lmao), but i will say if i buy official team merch it'll probably be merc stuff

How long have you been into F1? i've always been vaguely aware of it, but i first rly learnt abt it mid 2021, and then the first race i watched live was COTA 2021 (rip why did i miss half the best season ever for like 0 reason)

What got you into F1? if we're being hyperspecific, the trailer for DTS that had grosjean's crash from Bahrain 2020 - i decided to watch Telly during a holiday in like. march, and was scrolling netflix and saw a massive explosion and went 'oh SICK', and accidentally watched all of that season of DTS in one day. i then spent the next like 2 months just watching youtube videos abt f1 and went 'no i cant be obsessed w cars going around in circles' and voila. we're here

Do you enjoy Fanfic/RPF? as with the way i enjoy any piece of media, i read fanfiction before actually consuming the source material, so to answer the question: yes (i've stopped reading it much nowadays, just a few stories ive been long time subbed to cough jeddah george cough)

How do you view new fans? love to chat w them, and figure out how much they know! (in a fun 'omg ur into my fav topic' kind of way, not a 'list every race winner since 1950' kind of way). i was a new fan rather recently, so i remind myself of that whenever i eyeroll at a bad take on twitter.

If you could take over as team principal for any team, who would it be and why? redbull and sabotage the Hell out of the team. also earn some nice cash at the same time.

Are your friends and family into F1 as well? it took me a year and a half of being into f1 to find out that not only did my mum used to watch f1 in the 80s/90s, that my grandfather used to watch f1 WITH her but my UNCLE on the OTHER side of the FAMILY has a SIGNED AUTOGRAPH from SENNA that was sent off like a week before he DIED. i thought i was ALONE in my enjoyment GENUINELY.

i also got many of my friends into f1, and have made new friends both irl and online through shared love of it, so u know. Skillz.

Are you open to talking to other fans/making friends? uh ALWAYS. as i just said, i have made many a friend this way, and its just fun to talk abt the sport w other ppl, esp when they have different opinions to u!!

🔵 What factions (that you do not belong to) do you respect? Why?

R: I respect the fuck outta House Arano. They were my first employers, and Lady Arano was as fine a leader as a monarch could ever be- and I don't mean that as an insult like i usually do . She treated us right and made sure we not only got paid well but were rewarded for shinin' in the field.

A: I fought briefly alongside the 2nd Sword of Light before I left the DCMS. They were consumate professionals and were gracious enough to teach me some of the old tricks they used to keep up with the SLDF Gunslingers.

🔴 What factions (that you do not belong to) do you disrespect? Why?

R: Fuck the Marian Hegemony. I aint elaboratin.

A: Forgive Rowan, her past from before she joined the company isn't something she enjoys speaking on.

As for myself, I hold no respect for the Clans... of my time, Rowan insists I add. The Clans of today... The jury is out until I get back home to Rasalhague.

🟠 Is there an extinct faction you wish to see brought back in some form? Why?

R: The St. Ives Compact. I fought like hell to help Candace get them off the ground, and I aint gonna lie it hurts a bit that they didn't last.

A: The Free Rasalhague Republic. And I aim to see it happen in my lifetime.

🟣 What are your top 3 favorite planets you have visited, if you have visited multiple worlds?

R: sure, firstly is Canopus- 's where i got my tits, 'nuff said. Zwei? Gonna say Herotitus. The 'Knights based outta there for a while after the Arano Restoration, and its where i'd say i really went from being a regular mechjock to someone with a real modicum of talent. More importantly, its where i picked up a good bit of periphery merc culture and pride. Three, is Coromodir. Aside from being a beautiful planet, its where I made 'mech ace of aces in a single day. I've also got a *lot* of good memories there celebratin' our victory with Fursona's Fusiliers. Just ask @is-the-battlemech-cool-or-not

A: To engage with the spirit of the question, I will leave out Rasalhague's worlds. The deserts of Vega are beautiful, in a harsh and unforgiving way. Solaris is a thrill, and I'd like to return one day to compete again. Lastly, Terra herself. All that there is to love in the galaxy can be found in some manner on Terra. Also, she has the most beautiful moon in the universe.

💛 What do you currently pilot?

R: Haters will call it a frankenmech, but I call it a sweet fuckin' rig. These Boots is a Marauder MAD-3D at base, but one of her arms were shot off and replaced with a Mad Cat's, another with... some other clan mech? I honestly don't know. She's got TSM, a supercharger, and enough jump juice to help me live up to my callsign Kingfisher. Also, talons baybe!

A: I pilot a Highlander HGN-732, with many parts upgrades to bring it closer in line with the -732b. It's name is Deadeye Dancer, and it lives up to it.

💳 If you are/were a mercenary, who is/was your most and least favorite client?

R: I'd say House Arano, but honestly... It's whatever little two-bit periphery settlement that needs to fend off pirate or dipshit vulture lord raids, and barely have the cash to pay for the scorched armor. If i could somehow keep my company going, only working for them, I would do so with zero regrets.

A: Back in 30...30? We took a contract in the Taurian Concordat, and I did not expect to enjoy my time working with them as much as I did. They are consummate professionals, and will give you wild discounts on equipment if you promise to kill some Davions with it.

💰What was your dumbest and/or smartest purchase?

R: I once bought an industrial mech on a dare- bet a prick on Solaris that I could win about in the Class Six arena with one. I came in second, which still was a lost bet. And there went *way* too many C-Bills... For my best purchase? An old "pile of junk" Shadow Hawk SHD-2H. Turns out, someone way back when put in some aftermarket upgrades, and we ended up pulling an LB-10X and a few Freezers out of it. A pretty Big Fuckin' Deal for 3027.

A: I once got a.... very unfortunate tattoo while out drinking with the other officers of the unit on Canopus. My best purchase was bottle of genuine tequila from Terra that I managed to expense to Hanse Davion's personal bank account. Though, I do suppose that means I was not the one who purchased it.

🌼 For Inner Sphere characters, what do you think of the Clans, in whole or in part?

R: Spoke with Melissa about this, but long story short? The Clans were awful ugly before I misjumped, but Melissa promises me they've mellowed out and are getting better, and I trust her. Still gonna have some biases, though, so please do call me out on them when you see it.

A: The last I saw of my homeworld, we were retreating after Clan Wolf invaded. It is a moment etched into my heart in fire. The continued occupation of my people is a matter I will address to my own personal satisfaction. But the SLDF we have encountered thus far have been surprisingly tolerable. I find myself willing to give the benefit of the doubt, with the express exception to those whom occupy the free people of Rasalhague.

🔫 If you can fight in non-vehicular combat, what weapons do you favor?

R: You can't go wrong with a bog-standard ballistic assault rifle of any era. Well, you can- they're kinda shit compared to some of what else is out there. But I love them for it. They're like the Urbanmech of small arms.

A: I favor submachine guns, but I prefer to fight only long enough to get to a mech or a tank.

🛸 Is there a "canon rumor" theory (e.g. hyperspace weirdness, aliens, Phantom 'Mech Ability, time travel, alternate universes, the Lost Cameron) that you believe in? Or perhaps have experienced?

R: it's ridiculous, really, but there's this rumor goin' around that I fucked The Last Cameron- [MUFFLED THUDS]

A: No. Bad Rowan.

As for myself, I have seen the Phantom Mech phenomenon in action. I fought alongside Yorinaga Kurita in several skirmishes, and whatever boon or curse he bears... It is real.

About Kimi.... The hate against him has always been deep and present before 2020, especially rampant among Sebastian fans who loved to stick some of the blame of Seb being unable to win a WDC for Ferrari on Kimi. Much like what Valtteri has been getting for two years. But aside from that, there was a "merchandise" contraversy starting from mid 2020 to the start of this year when he finally changed the design he has been using. And that caused people's hate to concentrate on him for some time until everyone either black listed his name or outright blocked everyone who still posted about him.

I and a few other Kimi blogs got bullied into deleting our blogs, some old Kimi bloggers turned into his no1 haters, most people were coming to his tag to weekly shit on him and make fun of his fans, some people even wishing him to crash and die because he didn't kneel, because of his merc...

Lots of stuff that I don't want to detail, but you can easily find all these posts and why people hate on him so much thru the tag.

I have never defended his choices about certain stuff that he had done to cause this hate, I wish he had done different, I wish he had been more aware of stuff and act accordingly. But I also believed he is a good man at heart just like everyone who knows him has said again and again, including Seb and Charles. But he is also ignorant (doesn't read much/isn't trying to inform himself much) and he doesn't care about what other people think of him. He just does his thing, minds his own business and goes home. For most people being and staying "ignorant and uncaring about stuff/opinions" is a big turn off and I understand this and respect it.

My problem is how I got bullied into doubting myself as a human being for supporting him, how I got called a r.cist, a c.nt, a bitch, a self dragging rat brained crack head.... Many more things on anon or thru the tags or notes openly (some shitheads are brave here, I must commend) I just wanted to be left alone. I didn't want to get called creative names for liking/reblogging a Seb/Kimi or Kimi/otherdriver pic or video, get blocked simply because I did that or for having Kimi's name as my username or his pic as my header/pp or get mentioned in a nasty way after liking/reblogging old Kimi/Simi stuff from some blogs that no longer like him or get nasty tags added to my own posts of Kimi with other drivers...

The bar is so low, but I can't even have that. In time, I grew a thick skin, but 4 years of Kimi and Seb pics and videos got deleted together with my old blog.... Wish I didn't delete. Wish my friends didn't delete. But what is done is done. I hope to persevere this time as my blogs are my sole resting space rn, a space where I try to forget about my life. So, I will keep them.

He makes me laugh, and I like that. And he’s considerate. I mean, he’s given me two presents, he asks what I want, he even covered up my head in the rain!”

“He’s not just a run-of-the-mill merc who shoots and loots.” She shakes her head, curls tumbling around her cheeks. “He’s smart. Witty, yeah, but not just that. Like he figured me out real fast, didn’t he? He’s got the sort of smarts that make him good at noticing things, figuring things out. Maybe he’d make a good detective!”

“I bet he’s fucking scary.” Darla gives a little shudder at the thought. “I’ve never seen him, like, pissed, but I can picture it. He’s already intimidating, and I’ve heard rumours that he’s a crack shot.”

♥ Romantic Potential

A delighted giggle, at that. “Oh, god, I think he’d run away! I mean, I like him a lot, and I think he likes me, too. I - I think I could love ‘em as a friend. But romantically, it’s harder t’imagine. We’re pretty different, and I think he thinks I’m too young for him. Besides, he doesn’t seem like the type for romance, y’know?” 

✘ Secrets

“I wonder where he came from.” Her tone softens, eyes casting downwards. “I’ve heard rumours he used t’have somebody with him, years ago. That he’s been all across the coast and further than that. What makes somebody wander that far? Why’s he alone now? How’s he so smart? He must’ve gotten a good education somewhere. I dunno. A lot of questions, but ‘s not far for me to ask when I can’t answer the same ones for him myself.”

“I’m glad he decided to come up to my farm!” Her grin and cheer returns. “Hmn. I dunno. I mean, I can see why he became a mercenary, but why not something else? A doctor, maybe? Or a teacher? He’d be good at it. I think he’d be good at anything he set his mind to. Although...” Her face contorts without warning, nose wrinkling, eyes narrowing. “... I’ve heard he’s working for that robot girl, the synth-hater with the curls. Gotta question that decision. But I guess he can’t know any better.”
