*sips tea* I still have connections at the company that fired both me and my husband and made our lives living hell for all of 2024, and it's delightful.
They just had a bunch of employees quit en masse because they're moving a whole department from Austin, Texas to fucking Iowa. And not even Des Moines, either. Shockingly, not many people wanted to uproot their lives to live in *Iowa*.
On top of that, the manager who was under heat for the same issue that got my husband fired (basically it was him or her and the department head decided she was more valuable) has now been fired as well for making THE SAME MISTAKE.
And they still haven't found someone willing to do the work my husband was doing for the pay he was getting.
They just replaced me with more outsourcing so their customer service is going down the drain as well.
Aaaannnnddd on top of all that they just lost a legal battle and so they might not do bonuses this year. Oh, but all the execs are still getting paid. And the multimillion dollar office renovation that no one wants is still happening.
🫖☕ but that's none of my business

Watcher's Expenses
I didn't major in accounting: I took three classes and it grinded my brain to a fine powder. However, after graduating with a business admin degree, being a former eager fan of their videos, and from a cursory glance over their socials, there's a lot to consider in their spending behavior that really could start racking up costs. Some of these things we've already noticed, but there are other things I'd like to highlight, and I'll try to break it down into the different categories of accounting expenses (if I get something wrong, let me know. I was more concentrated in marketing 🤷♀️). I'm not going to hypothesize numbers either, as that would take out more time than I'm willing to afford-- you can assume how much everything costs. Anyways, here's my attempt at being a layman forensic accountant:
Note: All of this is assuming they're operating above board and not engaging in any illegal practices such as money laundering, tax evasion, not paying rent, etc.
Operating Expenses
Payroll: 25+ staff salaries and insurance
Overhead Expenses
CEO/founder salaries
Office space leasing or rent (In L.A, one of the most expensive cities in the US)
Utilities (water, electricity, heating, sanitation, etc.)
Insurance
Advertising Costs
Telephone & Internet service
Cloud Storage or mainframe
Office equipment (furniture, computers, printers, etc.)
Office supplies (paper, pens, printer ink, etc.)
Marketing costs (Social media marketing on Instagram, Youtube, SEO for search engines, Twitter, etc. Designing merchandise and posters, art, etc. )
Human Resources (not sure how equipped they are)
Accounting fees
Property taxes
Legal fees
Licensing fees
Website maintenance (For Watchertv.com, Watcherstuff.com, & Watcherentertainment.com)
Expenses regarding merchandising (whoever they contract or outsource for that)
Inventory costs
Potentially maintenance of company vehicles
Subsequent gas mileage for road trips
Depreciation (pertains to tangible assets like buildings and equipment)
Amortization (intangible assets such as patents and trademarks)
Overhead Travel and Entertainment Costs (I think one of the biggest culprits, evident in their videos and posts)
The travel expenses (flights, train trips, rental cars, etc. For main team and scouts)
Hotel expenses for 7-8 people at least, or potentially more
Breakfasts, lunches and dinners with the crew (whether that's fully on their dime or not, I don't know; Ryan stated they like to cover that for the most part)
Recreational activities (vacation destinations, amusement parks, sporting activities etc.)
The location fees
Extraneous Overhead costs (not sure exactly where these fall under, but another culprit, evident in videos and posts)
Paying for guest appearances
Expensive filming & recording equipment (Cameras, sound equipment, editing software subscriptions, etc.)
The overelaborate sets for Ghost files, Mystery Files, Puppet History, Podcasts etc. (Set dressing: Vintage memorabilia, antiquated tech, vintage furniture, props, etc.)
Kitchen & Cooking supplies/equipment
Office food supply; expensive food and drink purchases for videos
Novelty items or miscellaneous purchases (ex. Ghost hunting equipment, outfits, toys, etc.)
Non-Operating Expenses
These are those expenses that cannot be linked back to operating revenue. One of the most common examples of non-operating expenses is interest expense. This is because while interest is the cost of borrowing money from a creditor or a bank, they are not generating any operating income. This makes interest payments a part of non-operating expenses.
Financial Expenses
Potential loan payments, borrowing from creditors or lenders, bank loans, etc.
Variable Expenses
Hiring a large amount of freelancers, overtime expenditure, commissions, etc.
PR consultations (Not sure if they had this before the scandal)
Extraordinary Expenses
Expenses incurred outside your company’s regular business activities and during a large one-time event or transactions. For example, selling land, disposal of a significant asset, laying off of your employees, unexpected machine repairing or replacement, etc.
Accrued Expenses
When your business has incurred an expense but not yet paid for it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(If there's anything else I'm missing, please feel free to add or correct things)
To a novice or a young entrepreneur, this can be very intimidating if you don't have the education or the support to manage it properly. I know it intimidates the hell out of me and I'm still having to fill in the gaps (again, if I've mislabeled or gotten anything wrong here, please let me know). For the artistic or creative entrepreneur, it can be even harder to reconcile the extent of your creative passions with your ability to operate and scale your business at a sustainable rate. That can lead to irresponsible, selfish, and impulsive decisions that could irreparably harm your brand, which is a whole other beast of its own.
My guess at this point is that their overhead and operation expenses are woefully mismanaged; they've made way too many extraneous purchases, and that they had too much confidence in their audience of formerly 2.93 million to make up for the expenses they failed to cover.
It almost seems as if their internal logic was, "If we make more money, we can keep living the expensive lifestyle that we want and make whatever we want without anyone telling us we can't, and we want to do it NOW, sooner rather than later because we don't want wait and compromise our vision." But as you can see, the reality of fulfilling those ambitions is already compromised by the responsibility of running a business.
And I wrote this in another post here, but I'll state it again: Running a business means you need to be educated on how a business can successfully and efficiently operate. Accounting, marketing, social media marketing, public relations, production, etc; these resources and internet of things is available and at your disposal. If they had invested more time in educating themselves on those aspects and not made this decision based on artistic passion (and/or greed), they would have not gotten the response they got.
Being a graphic designer, I know the creative/passionate side of things but I also got a degree/got educated in business because I wanted to understand how to start a company and run it successfully. If they’re having trouble handling the responsibility of doing that, managing production costs, managing overhead expenses, and especially with compensating their 25+ employees, then they should hire professionals that are sympathetic to their creative interests, but have the education and experience to reign in bad decisions like these.
Anyways, thanks for coming to my TedTalk. What a shitshow this has been.

Hello! How does James’ messy apartment fit in with his neurodivergence? Given that he has a standing to-go bag for road trips, as well as his approach to other things, it would seem that order would be imperative for him.
TL;DR: challenges with executive function, mostly! He's using it on other things and by the time he gets home, exhausted and overwhelmed, he doesn't have the energy to keep things tidy. Would if he could sort of thing.
Seven(!) more paragraphs about this under the cut.
James uses pretty much all of his executive function bandwidth (along with the rest of his energy) on hockey, and then there's all the non-hockey parts of the job, which includes a lot more social interaction than he'd ever willingly deal with otherwise, and that refers to the fans, media, and the twenty-odd other dudes he's in close quarters with every day, and most of the day when they travel. When he gets home he's generally got nothing left in the tank. He 100% crashes. At the end of road trips it's even worse.
He has the money to outsource most household admin tasks, thankfully -- meal delivery to replace shopping, meal-planning and cooking. A cleaner who comes when he's on the road. The place he gets his suits cleaned just started offering wash and fold service and it was the most significant improvement in his day to day life since he set everything to auto-renew on every. Sure, he miscalculated his soap use and has far too much now, but at least he doesn't constantly run out of Kleenex anymore. But the day-to-day things, like dishes, and tidying up, and putting things back? He gets behind and then he gets overwhelmed but all that does is paralyse him.
Every time he returns after a road trip his house will be very neat, which will make him happy, and he'll swear to himself he'll keep it like this. And then by the time he leaves town again it'll be a mess he's frantically pre-cleaned before the cleaner arrives (sometimes there are suspicious blanket piles then too).
The thing is, it isn't his inclination to be messy. He's quite tidy during the offseason and doesn't know why he always slips as soon as the season starts again. (Spoiler: it is because he has a regular schedule and far fewer demands on him during the offseason, so he actually still has energy at the end of the day.)
Add the fact he was ~feuding with Holden, which seemed to involve an exorbitant amount of thinking about him at length to the detriment of any other task, so there were a lot of aborted stabs at paying attention to other things that just became 'toss <book/game/remote/fruit snacks aside to intensely think about Holden Chase for awhile', and his place has gotten messy.
It's a source of a lot of shame for him. Him inviting Holden over not once, but twice is...uncharacteristic behaviour, to say the least (this is pretty much just Finn territory and even then James would really prefer they hang out somewhere else) and James would be a little appalled with himself if he wasn't, you know, busy waiting for Holden to fucking kiss him already.
Okay, a little MORE appalled with himself, the man is very much appalled with himself, he didn't get enough cleaning done in that half hour and then when Holden arrived instead of, oh, kissing him or something, invited Holden to watch a hockey game they played yesterday and have spent hours talking about already and for some reason Holden...agreed? And now they're just watching the game?? And nobody's kissed ANYBODY.

May: Mental Health Month
🧠 Mental Health Isn’t a Luxury—It’s a Priority 💛
Lately, I’ve seen too many entrepreneurs, small business owners, and creatives running themselves into the ground trying to do everything alone.
📌 Managing emails 📌 Updating spreadsheets 📌 Creating social posts 📌 Customer service 📌 Scheduling content
…all while trying to grow a business AND stay sane.
Burnout is real. Mental fog is real. The pressure to always be productive is overwhelming.
So here’s your gentle reminder: You don’t have to do it all. You’re allowed to ask for help. You’re allowed to delegate.
🧘♀️ Sometimes, protecting your mental health looks like: → Outsourcing the tasks that drain your energy → Saying no to chaos → Choosing peace over pressure
That’s where I come in 💻 I’m a Virtual Assistant helping overwhelmed creatives and business owners get their time, focus, and sanity back—without guilt.
✨ Imagine this: You handle what you love. I handle what you don’t.
✅ Admin tasks ✅ Research ✅ Content scheduling ✅ Inbox zero (yes, finally)
Let’s make space for your mental clarity. Check out my freelance VA gig here: 🔗 Find me on Fiverr
Your mind matters. Your time matters. Your peace matters. Let’s build your business without the burnout. 💛

Loving reading all these Esper answers! For the second part of the Dark Urge ask game: 7 and/or 9 (or any other questions you haven't been asked about yet, but want to answer!)
~ @bardicomen 😊
<33 happy to provide!
under the cut because it's long:
7. Bane once sacrificed all of Bhaals assassins, a mistake that caused a great rift between them. Did Durge ever plan to get revenge for it?
esper personally never saw much of a point. after all, murder is murder, and the only way they would get up and start planning revenge for something from the time of troubles would be if bhaal himself asked them to initiate such a plan. they do feel spite and disdain toward bane and his followers, and refused to work for or with gortash (because it took a while for gortash to get past the paradigm of employer/employee when they collaborated, he kept trying to tell them what to do and was shut out for it) for a while because of an innate disgust stemming from recreating the bhaal/bane service dynamic that once existed.
the vibe between them was weird for a while lmao. neither of them is used to the concept of an equal partner for different reasons. they did figure it out eventually, though.
9. The Feast of the Moon is a Bhaalian ritual where priests told the stories of particularly interesting or unique kills. Was one of your Durges deeds ever discussed, or perhaps even turned into a beloved and often retold story?
i love the bhaalian holidays. esper is, in spite of everything else about them, a fairly natural host -- they're very good at the kind of light connective-tissue conversation that introduces person to person and gets them talking, and they enjoy the process of checking in with people and getting them back involved in the festivities -- and events like the feast of the moon are a good excuse to host. but part of why they're good at it is because they don't like talking about themself as much, they like starting conversations and then listening to them go. they don't really like talking about their murders, either, preferring to let their actions speak for themselves and embrace the lack of glory associated with being a properly silent killer. they need sceleritas to start telling their stories on their behalf, but they continue when prompted.
esper's exploits get repeated by the other bhaalists in the way that stan twitter reposts images of a guy smirking, but the series of murders that led to their being anointed a deathstalker in the classic style (16 deaths in 16 ways, magical proficiency) as well as an unholy assassin in the modern style -- most of esper's magic is self-trained, as they're not really a cleric, but a lot of their abilities intersect handily with the deathstalker abilities -- it's one of the few things they're inclined to brag about. they're an overachiever.
and because you offered, and it's one of my favourite things about esper:
8. Being the head of a temple comes with lots of tedious work, did they truly manage all of it or did they try to outsource the best they could?
esper delegated for sure, but they do take a great amount of pride in their ability to manage the temple rather than just sitting on the big skull throne and giving orders. they're more used to receiving direction, so they do find admin work a welcome escape from being puppeted around in a blood rush by bhaal. plus, a well-run cult is an efficient cult, and an efficient murder cult means more people die and become scared and donate tithes (protection racket money) to the temple, more people speak and spread and respect the name of bhaal, gods damn it.
esper is a lot of things, but they are a type-a overachiever on top of all of it. they have an uncanny psychic ability to detect lies, uncertainty, insecurity, or anything else that gives away that something is wrong, before it even comes to their direct attention, especially if someone is particularly worried about what esper is going to do in response. if someone does something wrong in their cult, they are ruthless and terrifying in re-educating people, or disposing of them if need be (thanks, menzoberranzan upbringing). esper runs a very tight ship and they're not afraid to do things themself if they can't rely on someone else to do it, no matter how small or stupid it is, there's nothing they see themself as "too special" to bother with. they do find something meditative about running cult errands.

Speaking as someone who works for a nonprofit community organization, I don’t think this is bad advice, but I’m not sure that you’ll have a ton of success finding volunteer opportunities this way either.
My organization is a little bit unique in that we’re small (less than 30 employees) but we carve out budget for paid roles that many nonprofits don’t, because our breadth of services is so wide. However, please keep in mind that a lot of us are locking down our admin units.
We’re not outsourcing our marketing to a volunteer, because we need to be very deliberate about when and how we market certain things, like immigrant services, to keep ourselves and more importantly our clients safe. We’re not outsourcing our data entry to a volunteer because it contains sensitive information about all of our clients that we cannot risk letting just anyone handle (and also it’s way too much to expect someone to do on a volunteer basis).
Please do reach out to us to see what help we need, because we do need it. But don’t be surprised if that help is physical and in person, like helping at a food pantry, instead of clerical or administrative, ESPECIALLY if that organization serves immigrants.
Hey american tumblruser. Wanna do more about The Moment than harass your representatives (you're harassing your representatives, right?) but for any/all reasons you're not up to leaving your house to do it?
Look up your local organizations, pick your favorites. Get familiar, whatever that means in this context. Read over their website, scroll through their facebook page, watch any volunteer orientations, attend a zoom open house.
Once you are, reach out and ask if they need anyone to handle a mundane administrative task. Pick one you're familiar with, or can get familiar with, either that you can do sustainably or something that's a one-off, like building or cleaning up a website.
(I picked, "reply to emails asking questions that are already answered by your website.")
Lots of political/community orgs are getting a surge of activity right now. Good odds they're run by worn-out retirees. If they get an email saying, "I'm only available 30 minutes a week but do you need any data entry done?" or "Would you like some help line-editing your weekly newsletter?" the odds are very good they might actually physically cry with relief.
It's not glamorous, but it feels real good and it is important work. You won't make history but you'll know where you stood inside it.

The Drive Towards Outsourcing HR Admin
In the realm of human resources, efficiency and precision are paramount. For businesses operating in the fast-paced environment of Thailand, juggling HR admin and payroll tasks can be a cumbersome process that detracts from strategic goals. This is where HR admin outsourcing and payroll outsourcing services in Thailand offer a transformative solution.

#I have several frustrations with the 'executive function theft' framework that I haven't been able to articulate#Like it's absolutely extremely a real phenomenon I think framing it that way points in the wrong direction #And I think 'outsourcing admin work to nowhere' actually gets a lot closer.
#Everyone has massively cut their support staff everwhere.#supposedly automation makes up for this gap except that it literally doesn't at all#You can fire 90% of your office staff and replace them with a phone tree#And all that happens is everyone hates it and it sucks and it makes your service completely unnavigable#But like. Who is going to stop you?
#Everyone has done this in every industry and field. There is no alternative you can turn to preferentially because they actually staff thei#phones. No one does!!#Let alone any means of communication outside of phone calling. Which remains the absolute bottom line of getting any info out of anywhere#You can cut your office hours because everything is on the website! Which you haven't updated in 5 years and the plugin broke and
#Basically the same principle we're seeing now in the rollout of AI has already been the status quo. The idea that you can just get rid of#all human support services. Replace them with some automated function.
#On the corporate side the logic is clear: once you have a monopoly (and who doesnt) the only way to increase profits is to cut costs#which means fire people. And if the quality of service tanks who cares because everyone's stuck with you anyway.
#on the government services side it's a bit more opaque.... I guess it probably mostly comes back to cost-cutting again.#Budget pressure. Reforms designed to strangle services.#Plus the longtime practice of throttling government support by making the logistical burden too onerous to handle#By way of wretched clauses about eligibility and the proving therof and etc
#And there's a very real and brutal class component also.#Everyone making these firing calls is totally insulated from the effects of their decisions because they have personal assistants.#Meanwhile the people dealing with the most of this shit are anyone trying to access social services of any sort#or even just do or get things cheaply.
via @screambirdscreaming
(reformatted into paragraphs for easier reading) these tags get to the root of the problem in a way I'd like to see more people acknowledging, honestly.
I saw a post the other day that was pointing out how people selling AI frame AI as some genius worksaving innovation or as a tool based on whether they want to cater to the ego of middle management types whose entire job is answering emails, because obviously the people whose jobs are most able to be replaced by AI are middle management email answering jobs.
I think what is missing from the understanding that "middle management types who answer emails can easily have their jobs replaced by AI" thought is that while they are being paid to answer emails, their jobs actually consist of a bunch of soft skills which they are not getting acknowledgment or payment for, in a lot of cases due to this work being done by women and other marginalized people for whom this work is the only thing allowing them to achieve middle class status. The DEI purge happening in the American federal government is happening on the devaluation of soft skills that communication based jobs need to be done well, because the job can be automated to be done badly by moving the actual work of that job to the "customer".
I think this is just a trend everywhere but I've been very frustrated this week by how much admin work is being outsourced to me as the patient/customer.
My orthodontist tells me I can make an appointment with the surgeon. I call the surgeon. They tell me I need a new referral. I call the orthodontist. They do a referral. I call the surgeon. Referral didn't come through. They tell me about their special unique system we have to use. I call the ortho again and walk them through the referral. I call the surgeon. They say the referral was missing some details so they have to do it again. I call the ortho.
The insurance company calls me about repair shops. I give them the name of the repair shop which I already gave them yesterday. They say they're not in their system but I can use them, but I have to call the repair shop to ask them to contact the insurance company. I call the repair shop and they say the insurance company is supposed to email them.
I feel like at a certain point these constant fetch quests become unreasonable?? Is it too much to expect these groups to communicate with each other instead of making me run back and forth between them???
