birthday
Party planning with a dash of angst. An excerpt from this 1992 one-shot, Edward POV.
Telepathy had its uses. I was carrying a stack of boxes piled more than a foot above my head as I followed Alice around the living room, but looking through her eyes made it easy enough.
"I still don't understand why we're doing this," I said, mumbling into the cardboard mashed against my face.
Alice plucked another string of lights out of the top box wobbling above me. "Because it's been far too long since this family had a party. Two inches closer, please."
"No, it hasn't. You threw Carlisle that Doctor of the Year thing back in November."
"Exactly! And what better reason to celebrate than our mother's birthday?"
I snorted into the cardboard. "If you haven't noticed, birthdays aren't particularly meaningful around here." I sighed as the world went black again. "Alice, would you please keep your eyes open so I can see?"
"Hold on." The blackness swirled into color as she focused on a new vision. The colors gave way to a frothy swirl of white, polka-dotted by the glaring brightness of electric light. "Tulle!" Alice gasped, jumping off the ladder and landing in the hallway at a run. "Come on, help me find it! I know Rosalie packed it when we moved, it might be in that big trunk with the Christmas garlands..."
I shook my head and set the boxes down. When Alice got like this, it was best to just follow orders and keep your head down. Her visions were going a mile a minute by the time I met her in the attic. Tulle and twinkle lights, deep orange roses clustered in each corner of the ceiling—
"Good luck getting those in February," I put in, only to be shushed.
They'd go perfectly with the wrapping paper, and they must be available somewhere, otherwise I wouldn't have seen it, thank you very much.
"Hold on, what wrapping paper?" I asked. "We're doing presents?"
She rolled her eyes and threw open the nearest steamer trunk. "It's a birthday party, Edward."
"What are you giving her?"
"I've had my eye on this darling pea coat that's just right for her. Emmett's out picking flowers, Rosalie already wrapped hers—oil paints and three new canvases—hmm, maybe the canvases should be from Jasper..."
I stood up, nearly bumping my head on one of the rafters. "Why does everybody know about this but me?"
"Because you never come up for air when you're at the piano these days. It's not my fault you're a lazy telepath."
"What should I give her?"
Alice began pulling a length of sheer white cloth out of the trunk. "Ah, here it is!"
"Just tell me, Alice. What am I giving Esme?"
"Jewelry again. Only not that hideous turquoise brooch, if you please."
Jasper came home soon afterward to relieve me from decor duty. I retreated to my room to pick out the jewelry. I wouldn't be able to do this much longer, shelling out Elizabeth Masen's heirlooms to my mother and sisters; there wasn't much left. Besides the turquoise brooch, there was a pearl necklace in need of repair, the oval engagement ring, a bracelet with a little emerald flower charm, a few gaudy rings that would probably never be fashionable again, and a tangled pair of necklaces.
I sat down on my leather couch and carefully began to pick at the knotted necklaces, studiously ignoring the shining diamond heart wedged in the corner of the jewelry box beneath them. It wouldn't do to get wrapped up in that again.

Read after you've finished reading All That I Am Is Yours
Yes, Gojo spent 3 billion yen on a ring. In 2018, that exchange was about 2 million USD, give or take. (Don’t judge me for looking up what the conversion rate was back then, I wanted to be thorough.)
The ring has a white, woven band that’s embedded with tiny black jade stones all around it. The main gemstone is an oval (9mmx6mm) paraiba tourmaline. There are smaller light green (oval-shaped) Zultanite stones littered throughout the woven pattern, and three clustered together on each side.
Some fun facts about the ring:
The first character of Rinko’s name: 琳 means jade, a precious stone, beautiful gem, or resonance. Which is why Gojo got the black jade stones.
Black jade stones can go for up to 3 million USD per carat. And he got genuine ones. So that was the majority of the cost.
Tourmaline is the October birthstone. Meaning, Rinko’s birthstone. The paraiba tourmaline is one of the rarest(read: expensive) gems in the world, known specifically for its intense bright blue color.
Zultanite stones are naturally color-shifting stones, so the green stones shift in color depending on the light.
I went back and forth on a few different options, but in the end, I’m really happy with this choice.
The inspiration for the ring design with a paraiba tourmaline:

what are distinguishing features of cuttlings?
i'm glad you asked (because it was fun to draw an answer) here is a list! This is comparing them to squids as that's what they're more closely related to, but comparing the three main classes of inkfish (squid, octopus and cuttlefish) they very neatly fit between squid and octopus just looking at characteristics. To put it VERY simply.
Tumblr media
The eyes are one of the most notable details in cuttlefish - while many squids can also have peculiar eye shapes and most octopus eyes are horizontal, many cuttlefish species have pupils that are shaped as distinct horizontal squiggles.
Tumblr media
Of course the pupil shape can also change a LOT, but the general shape is very iconic in comparison to the octopus rectangle/slit and the squids' more commonly rounded or oval-shaped pupils. Cuttlefish also tend to have naturally drooped eyes due to the position of their eyebrow ridges, which gives them a naturally distressed or sad look (if you're a squid or octopus looking at a cuttlefish through the facial recognition lens of being familiar with squid or octopus facial expression. Obviously, to other cuttlefish, this is just a neutral expression).
Tumblr media
Cuttlefish have a very similar shape to some squid, with 8 arms and two longer hunting tentacles with distinct clubs. However, their mantle is rounder and more flattened compared to a squid's pointed one, and instead of most squids' pointed and separated triangular fins, cuttlefish have one large frilly fin running around their mantle. This is a very flexible and muscular skin flap that is also a lot floppier than most squid fins; and instead of being two fins on the sides of the head, it's one connected fin that loops around thinning down around the top of the mantle and gets more prominent going down.
Of course, the shape of cuttlefish and especially their fin makes them much worse at super jumping than squid are, which in the past has resulted in some turf war bias; not to mention their cuttlebone being much wider than the gladius of a squid makes them unable to squeeze through tight places like squids can. So, presumably, cuttlefish are naturally worse at turf war than squids are... but ARE they? They are a LOT better at maneuvering their swimming direction than squids are, that's for sure. AND they actually camouflage better due to their extremely sharp color changing and coordination skills!
Tumblr media
When it comes to tentacles, cuttlefish tentacles are similar to those of squid, but they are flatter and wider and this is a theme you'll notice with a lot of Cuttlings. They are very similar to squids, but parts of the body are often flattened and more loose, and also wider. This is true for their fins, internal shell, tentacles, and even their head.
Cuttlefish suckers are also much smaller than those of squids, with their head tentacles usually being flat and curly with tiny suckers dotting the inside. The inside of the tentacle is less pigmented as it typically is in squid as well, but in cuttlefish, the line separating the parts of the tentacle is much clearer with there usually being a notable rim of frilly skin overlapping into the inside. This is especially true with larger species, and species with large fins.
Tumblr media
The hunting tentacles of cuttlefish function about the same to those of squid, except the clubs are usually rounded as opposed to pointed or elongated. The clubs are also sometimes surrounded by a frill, similar to the fin on the head, and the suckers are clustered together in rows. The club suckers are usually bulbous and rounded with small openings, and look relatively harmless; however there is a small ring of denticulation (teeth) within each one. These teeth are very small and unlikely to cause damage or even to break skin in most cases; compared to a lot of squid suckers which have large, protruding chitin teeth several centimeters long or even giant curved hooks, cuttlefish suckers are mostly kind of cute.
Tumblr media
Finally, comparing the average limb of a cuttlefish to that of a squid, they are similarly shaped with the same number of fingers but have some differences. An obvious difference is the frill on the limb of the cuttlefish, where squids typically have a less pronounced line with less skin overlap, as well as the dimensions of the fingers. Cuttlefish fingers are usually shorter with rounded tips and small denticulated suckers, whereas squid fingers can be more elongated and the sucker teeth are usually very obvious whereas cuttlefish sucker teeth tend to be hidden from the naked eye in a lot of cases. Some squid can also have claws or hooks on their fingers, which is a luxury (?) that cuttlefish do not get.
Other differences: cuttlefish tend to favor crustaceans as their food of choice, where a lot of squid prefer fish. Unlike squids which are extremely social, cuttlefish also tend to be less social and do just fine alone or in small groups.
Finally, cuttlefish also have naturally very "high-resolution" chromatophores, and tend to be VERY GOOD at cycling their colors rapidly and creating patterns. While their patterns are much simpler than those of oceanic cuttlefish, it's not uncommon to see cuttlefish sporting casual gradients, or manipulating their stripes to resemble flowing water; this is an ability that can make them look nearly invisible while moving in a body of ink and closing in on enemies.
Another peculiar thing about cuttlefish patterns is that different cuttling species tend to have VERY distinct natural patterns from each other, and these do not change much. This is because anatomically, a lot of cuttlefish species look almost identical save for their patterns... something a lot of octopuses also deal with, but squids rarely do! These distinguishing patterns of cuttlefish are very persistent; from the bolder more standout stripes of common cuttlefish to the VERY distinct patterns of kisslip cuttlefish and the much smaller outlined striping on giant cuttlefish, there's a lot of stripe variation. And of course, the natural stripe placement is unique to each person. Think zebras.
Main draw: visually, cuttlefish are pretty much squids that are wearing an octopus coat, or octopuses that are trying really hard to be squid. Of course the truth is that they are neither of these things, as cuttlefish are just a totally separate secret third thing. But hey, we're talking visually, and seemingly. Not objectively, it's not scientific. But yeah.

Alright, I said I would do it. My OC pairings and their engagement rings and wedding rings. Any pairings I exclude I just haven't gotten that far in planning any of that.
Silas x Copia:
Copia would propose to Silas with this ring [gold with a forest-y tree theme with two birds on each side, in the middle a light green oval gemstone]:
Tumblr media
And then I think they'd have a matching pair of this as their wedding rings? I tried finding something that wasn't just a plain gold band but made sure the design wasn't too out there [A gold band with an art deco-inspired engravement around it].
Tumblr media
Arith x Iriel:
Arith proposes to Iriel but they decide no against a ring because they figured it might be too obvious. They just have plain gold wedding bands. But they'd choose something with a hidden engraved phrase. I think Arith's would say "my moon" and Iriel's "my sun" or Arith's would say "always" and Iriel's "forever"
I'm not sure specifics yet.
Tumblr media
Kaia x Odel:
Kaia proposed to Odel. And the ring probably looks like this [A gold ring with tiny diamonds placed all around it, a circular icy white jade stone in the middle]:
Tumblr media
These are what their wedding rings look like. [Matching clear resin bands with gold and dark blue pressed flowers inside].
Tumblr media
Marigold x Peter:
Marigold proposes to Peter with this ring [A silver band with a section of small silver gemstones going around it fitted inside]:
Tumblr media
And Peter's wedding ring is gold while Marigold's is silver, it's an opposite matching kind of thing. Because silver=Peter and gold=Marigold. [A gold band with plant leaves engraved around it and a silver band with plant leaves engraved around it with tiny diamonds]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rosie x Allison:
They decided to both get engagement rings because it was a more spur-of-the-moment thing where they kinda proposed to each other.
Their engagement rings are different but their wedding rings match.
Allison's is blue while Rosie's is purple (their favorite colors) [A gold ring with small silver gemstones in it that stick out a little and a rectangular blue topaz gemstone in the middle. Other ring is a gold ring with small silver gemstones on each side clustered together with a teardrop-shaped light purple gemstone in the middle]:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And their matching wedding ring [a gold ring with slight floral designs cut out of it, two small diamonds, one on each side, in the middle a silver teardrop-shaped silver gemstone]:

20 WITH JOSH
OKAY FRIEND YOU GOT IT!!! This turned out more angst than fluff but I will make it up to you, anonnie!! (a lot of yall requested #20 with different boys so I'm gonna try and write at least one of each, they may turn out similar and interchangeable but I'll do my best!!)
20. "it hurts me, just how much i ache for you."
Tumblr media
Running across the parking lot, you jumped into the arms of the young man awaiting your arrival. He laughed, spinning you around as your legs locked around his waist.
"Oh god I've missed you!" Jake laughed as he squeezed you tightly. "I'm so happy you're finally here."
"Me too!" you leaned down, peppering his face with kisses. It'd been a few long months since you'd last seen your partner, been able to touch him. You had been so excited on the plane ride and the in the car, you couldn't help bolting directly over to him. Jake reciprocated, kissing anywhere he could as you moved. Once you had gotten your fill, Jake let you down, pulling you into a tight hug.
"Who do we have here?!" you turned, seeing Sam walking over from his bus, squinting in the sunlight. "Is that my favorite sister-in-law?"
"I'm your only sister-in-law, I'd better be!" you giggled, tugging away from Jake and accepting Sam's hug. You exchanged pleasantries with Sam, Jake's arm wrapping around your waist as he joined in the conversation.
Your attention was distracted by another tall brother and shorter one, stepping out of another bus.
"Josh!" you exclaimed, you turned, jogging over to Jake's older twin, wrapping your arms around him in greeting. Josh grinned, holding you tightly as he swayed you from side to side. "Oh I've missed you!"
"I'm missed you too, so so much!" Josh replied, pulling away. "What are you doing here?"
"Jake flew me out for a few weeks, we couldn't stand being apart much longer." you grinned, turning back to your husband. "Newlywed life sucks when you don't have your other half." Josh's smile faltered as he nodded.
"Yeah, I can imagine." he sighed. You'd moved onto greeting Danny now, and Sam and Jake had joined the circle. Josh couldn't help but glancing down at your hands. One was intertwined with Jake's as he stood next to you, his wedding band shining between the fingers on your right hand. On your left, a matching, more delicate band that housed an oval blue-green sapphire nestled among a few small white sapphire clusters on the sides. Another more plain band was snuggled underneath it on your finger. Josh bit the inside of his cheek, watching it glimmer in the sunlight.
He remembered Jake showing it to him. How excited his twin was to share his secret. Jake went into detail about how he tried to causally bring up stones, took you into jewelry stores, even tried to find your pinterest and etsy pages to see what you were looking at. He was so proud to have built this ring for you.
"Diamonds aren't for her," Jake insisted, and Josh agreed. It was a beautiful ring, truly, and you were going to love it. But to Josh, you weren't sapphires. You were fire opals, full of cosmic hues of gold, red green and blue. You were citrine, shining as brightly as the sun, blinding him from everyone else. You were anything but a basic gemstone.
If it hadn't been for Josh, you and Jake would have never met. You and he had the same voice teacher, who had prompted a meeting between you both after realizing how similar you were to Josh. You weren't into singing professionally; you had started taking lessons as a silly new years resolution, trying something new. After meeting a few times, Josh had started to show up early to his appointments, realizing you were usually there just before him. He loved the surprised look on your face when you'd start to leave, seeing him walking up the stairs. He had been so close to asking you out, the day he plucked up the courage, Jake had tagged along to his lesson, since he was going to be singing on the next album.
You were going down the stairs just as Josh and Jake were starting to climb them. You paused when you got closer, greeting Josh. He introduced Jake to you, not realizing the loss he would suffer for doing so. Jake, ever the one to make a move as soon as he knew what he wanted, invited you to the bar that night. Harmless, until once gathered and a few drinks in, he had snuck you off to a corner, talking to you quietly as you shared a tequila soda with him. As soon as he saw Jake lean in, Josh knew it was over. You accepted his kiss and the rest was history.
Now here you were, three years later and finally sharing Josh's last name, except you weren't his, like how he'd originally thought. How he nearly bit through his tongue at the wedding, wanting to stop it, shout out his feelings for you, have you run away with him in your beautiful gown and marry him instead in some little chapel. Move into a cottage and fill it with love and as many children as the two of you could handle. But that fantasy was something he could no longer lose himself in without feeling sick, knowing it would never happen.
It took everything Josh had in him the rest of the day to stay out of his own head. He slipped occasionally, nearly kicking himself when he flubbed onstage for the third time. He couldn't believe you being there would affect him this much. Just knowing you were there, no doubt eyes trained on Jake, watching him play his heart out for you in the stands.
After the show, you all took up home in the hotel's bar, sipping on drinks and catching up more than you were able to before. Jake stayed on you at all times, a hand on your thigh, his arm on the back of your chair, finger twirling a lock of your long hair behind your back. Josh had finally had enough after the third times he caught you both making moon eyes at each other, and roughly set his glass down on the bar, near-storming out of the restaurant.
"What was that all about?" Danny asked, brows furrowed.
"I'll go talk to him, maybe he's mad at one of you guys." you joked with his brothers.
"About what?!"
"I don't know, but one of you is always up to something."
You parted from Jake at the bar, placing a kiss on his cheek and then following Josh's path out to the outdoor pool of the hotel. You found him sitting in one of the lounge chairs, watching the wind ripple the clear blue water.
"Listen, you are the last person I want to see right now." Josh sighed, ignoring your presence.
"That's harsh," you scoffed. "What have I ever done to deserve that?"
"You just-" Josh shook his head. "Never mind. It's better if I stay quiet."
"Josh, you've been so weird to me this whole trip. I have no clue what I've done to you, but whatever it is-"
"Why did you kiss Jake?" Josh stared at you now, his dark eyes watching you. You were puzzled.
"Well he's my husband, so we kiss...I don't-"
"At the bar. The night you met him. Why did you kiss Jake?"
"Josh, that was years ago, I-"
"Answer the damn question!" Josh snapped, startling you.
"Because you wouldn't make a move." you replied, stony faced. "Because I waited for almost a year for you to finally do something. I left so many opportunities open for you, flirted with you. God I was doing everything to try and get you to notice that I liked you! I gave up and then you introduced me to Jake and-"
"So you decided to fuck my twin since you couldn't have me?" Josh felt the sting of your slap before he realized what he said.
"Fuck you Josh." you seethed. "Fuck you. I love Jake, and he wasn't afraid to make a move. He wanted me, and he did something about it. He was never a consolation prize. Don't bring your bitterness to me because you couldn't pluck up the courage to do what he did." Josh was silent, his cheek still stinging from your slap.
"It...it hurts me," he looked up at you. "just how much I ache for you."
"You need to stop, then." you supplied quietly, looking at the ground. "I'm with Jake. I love him, and I'm spending the rest of my life with him. You're always going to be there, I can't stop that, and I won't. I won't put Jake through that. But you have to make that choice too." Josh stared at you, seeing the resolve in your eyes. "I love you Josh, but you lost me a long time ago. It's time to move on."
"Yeah, you're right." Josh swallowed thickly. "I need to move on."
"I'd like us to be friends again." you murmured, wiping a tear before it could fall from your eyes. "I know it will be a long time, and this is going to suck, but...I do really cherish our friendship."
"We'll get there again, one day." Josh sniffled, giving you a half-hearted smile.
"Promise?"
"Promise."

In London during the late spring of 1953, preparations for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation were reaching their denouement.
Couturier Norman Hartnell was completing a dress to outshine any other.
Tucked away at the back of Hartnell’s lavish Mayfair townhouse, a team of embroiderers were finishing stitching a floral garland on the ivory silk bodice and crinoline.
Pastel thread, jewels, sequins, beads and 10,000 seed pearls were sewn as Commonwealth emblems and British flora around an English Tudor rose scattered with diamond dewdrops.
Six young, aristocratic maids of honour, including 19-year-old Lady Anne Coke – best-selling author Anne Glenconner – were being drilled like guardsmen by The Duke of Norfolk, responsible for organising the coronation, as they rehearsed the walk to the Abbey altar, with his wife, the Duchess, standing in for The Queen.
“If the Bishops don’t learn to walk in step,” he remonstrated, “we’ll be here all night.”
Tumblr media
The photographer Cecil Beaton, well-versed in photographing crowned heads and aristocrats in the Vogue studios, was prepping a vantage point in Westminster Abbey, high up by the organ pipes, as the best location from which to capture the ceremony.
It would be a long day; he’d fill his top hat with sandwiches to sustain him.
Nearby, at Garrard, the Crown Jeweller and his team of master craftsmen were hunched over workbenches altering the Imperial State Crown to fit the young Queen’s head.
Garrard had made the Crown in 1937 for King George VI – a replica of the crown designed and crafted for Queen Victoria, which contained virtually all the same stones symbolic of centuries of Royal history, fitted around a purple velvet cap and ermine band.
Tumblr media
Clusters of diamond-set crosses and fleurs-de-lis linked by swags of diamonds, supported by sapphires, emeralds and pearls in the form of oak leaves and acorns, dazzled around the massive 317.40 carat Cullinan II diamond, the Second Star of Africa, cut from the largest diamond ever discovered.
Above it sat the Black Prince’s Ruby – in fact, a spinel, worn by Henry V at Agincourt – while the 104 carat oval Stuart sapphire gleamed at the rear of the band, with the cross atop the orb set with the sapphire from Edward the Confessor’s ring.
King George VI requested Garrard create an inner “hammock” style fitting, like a guard’s officer’s bearskin, to distribute the nearly three pounds of weight evenly on his head.
Reshaping the circlet for Queen Elizabeth II involved remounting the stones and motifs of which it is composed, as well as repositioning and lowering the arches, all of which required craftsmanship of the highest skill.
The aim was to improve the strength of the crown with lightness of weight, which isn’t easy with large stones, and those which were cut nearly 300 years ago.
They were working against the clock. The new Queen required time before the ceremony to become accustomed to the crown’s feel and weight.
“There are some disadvantages to crowns, but otherwise they are very important things,” said Her Majesty, recalling its heaviness on the 65th anniversary of the coronation.
“Fortunately, my father and I have roughly the same shaped head, so once you put it on, it stays.”
The media demanded constant updates on Garrard’s work, with the coronation making broadcasting history as the first service to be televised, adding to the sense of pressure.
In addition, two gold Armill bracelets of sincerity and wisdom, symbolic of the monarch’s bond with the people needed to be finished, which were replacing the 17th-century enamel bracelets dating from the coronation of King Charles II.
In previous ceremonies, the Armills had been carried, but these were made for the Queen to wear, decorated with two rows of engraving and Tudor rose clasps with red velvet linings.
Garrard was also inundated with cleaning requests.
“No one had worn their jewellery or tiaras during the war,” explains Lady Anne.
“People were queuing to have their tiaras, which were like great fenders of diamonds, stomachers and necklaces cleaned.”
Tumblr media
On the day, 2 June 1953, it poured with rain.
Lady Anne remembers arriving at the Abbey:
“It was pretty dark and cold. Our dresses weren’t lined, there were clothing coupons after the war you see.
A tiny thread of blue cotton had been placed on the floor in the Abbey, so the Queen knew where to stand.
When the procession began, we walked past row upon row of tiaras, as well as people in their National dress.
The Queen walked a bit faster than the Duchess had in rehearsals, so we had to adjust our steps.”
The ceremony ended at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.
Hartnell left after watching his historic dress sweep down the aisle followed by the procession of royal pages, maids of honour, peers and peeresses sparkling with diamonds, looking, he remarked:
“Like a lovely hunk of fruitcake, the damson jam of velvet bordered with clotted cream of ermine and sprinkled with the sugar of diamonds.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beaton rushed to Buckingham Palace to photograph the Queen theatrically against a painted backdrop, holding the orb and sceptre and wearing the Imperial State Crown.
The Crown Jeweller Garrard remained until The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh had taken lunch in the Abbey annex, in case any last-minute adjustments to the diamond-encrusted Crown were needed.
“Cecil was waiting when we all returned from the Abbey,” Lady Anne continues.
“He had everything set up for the photographs, and that’s when I really noticed the Crown and jewels glittering under the bright lights and took note of it all.
The Queen looked so young, beautiful and vulnerable, so the contrast of seeing her crowned with all the regalia was extraordinary.
She was weighted down a bit, but I remember thinking it was terribly poignant.”
A tense moment followed.
“The Duke of Edinburgh was fussing around, and Cecil got irritated, put his camera down and said, ‘Oh Sir, would you prefer to take the photographs?’” Lady Anne laughs.
“The Queen looked a bit horrified, and The Duke wandered off. You see, The Duke would have liked the photographer Baron, but it was The Queen Mother who adored Cecil.”
Tumblr media
Later, it was still rainy and dark outside.
When the gleaming, crowned figure of The Queen appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony, she shone with a sense of tradition and permanence.
With the Imperial State Crown, she wore the Coronation necklace and earrings, made in 1858 by Garrard and worn by Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary, including 25 brilliants suspending the Lahore diamond drop.
Time will tell if the Armills will return to being carried at the Coronation of HRH The Prince of Wales, and if he has inherited the Windsor head shape, but should substantial adjustments be required, the crown will appear once more unchanged.
The historical continuity of the regalia, and the fact the crown is still in constant use, makes these jewels created in the Garrard workshop the most potent in the world.

The Beautiful and Rare: The Burma Ruby
Burma, also known as Myanmar, has been the source of some of the world's finest rubies for centuries. Burmese rubies are famed for their strong and vibrant colour, making them the most desired of all!
Every mine produces a wide range of quality. The fact that a ruby comes from a famous mine doesn’t mean it is good quality... But fine-quality rubies that have Myanmar (Burmese) origin definitely are.
Tumblr media
This for example: Edwardian Burma Ruby Cabochon & Diamond Cluster Ring
This beautiful oval shaped Burma ruby cabochon takes centre stage of this amazing cluster ring. The ruby weighs 3.3 carats and looks amazing in both daylight and iridescent light, with a rich and intense colour. The stone is complemented by a cluster of sparkly old cut diamonds, set in a way that creates great movement and placing the ruby to centre stage.

There are four types of coral reefs!! Fringing, Barrier, Atoll and patch!! Fringing reefs are reefs that directly emerge from the shoreline, lacking a distinct deep water channel or lagoon between the reef and the adjacent land. However, there may exist shallow areas of sand bottom between the beach and the inner edge where coral growth begins.
When a fringing reef extends its growth vertically from a volcanic island that has completely subsided beneath the sea level, it gives rise to a unique coral structure known as an atoll. Atolls typically exhibit a circular or oval shape, encircling an open central lagoon, The formation of an atoll begins with the initial growth of a fringing reef around the perimeter of a volcanic island.
Over time, as the volcanic island gradually sinks, the coral continues to grow upward, maintaining its position at or near the surface of the water. As the island disappears beneath the waves, only the circular or oval-shaped coral reef remains, forming a complete ring or rim with no landmass in the center. Atolls are basically just volcanic lagoon reefs which I find the coooollesst!!
Barrier reefs, similar to fringing reefs, run parallel to shorelines; however, they are distinct in that they are separated from the land by a considerable expanse of water. This creates a lagoon, typically deep, between the reef and the shoreline.
While less common compared to fringing reefs or atolls, examples of barrier reefs can be found in both the tropical Atlantic and Pacific regions. Barrier reefs are characterized by their formation in open water, initially starting at the offshore edge and subsequently growing parallel to or towards the coast. Unlike fringing reefs, barrier reefs possess deeper channels or lagoons that separate them from the mainland. Their formation is not immediate adjacent to the shoreline, but rather occurs through the evolution of the surrounding substrate or changes in sea-level.
Patch reefs are clusters of coral formations that are physically separated by sandy rings, yet closely situated to one another. They are commonly found in shallow lagoons within larger collective reefs or atolls.
There’s also bleached reefs but they’re pretty new and it’s due to climate change and water rising. I think the ecosystem becomes different and the algae eats on the bacteria that’s on the coral and that’s why they loose color but I could be wrong!! This is Pavi signing off and I’ve hoped you enjoyed this lecture about coral reefs!! + bonus you get shark ramble
There critically endangered which is sad because they're so cute. They're found in both salt and freshwater which is rare!! And only fish of the euryhaline species so your salmon, eels, flounder, and three more species can do?? I'm not sure about sharks but considering there are only 500 now I'd count that as special.
The speartooth shark is found in New Guinea and northern Australia in the bottom of rivers (almost like its in the name). Their habittat is shrinking because illegal gillnetting ( hook and line fishing), commercial and recreational fishing along with just pollution in general.
There are about 2000 left which is sad and I hate it here like just let the sharks live. People say that sharks are dangerous when it's dolphins who are they're literally horrible creatures. The only reason why sharks bite is because they're curious and can't reach out with their fins. Their nose and teeth are how they like...idk it's their sensory. It's how they view the world even with eyes they aren't always the best so they bite.
that's actually super cool!! i'm like- terrified of the ocean but for some reason sharks have never given me the ick that's so nice to know about them (not the deaths that's despicable and based on the little i know, "shark attacks" aren't as common as portrayed and they rlly aren't attacks they're just the sharkies defending themselves or something similar :c)
don't dolphins like. rape people? idk if that's true but i've heard it a lot and it freaks me out, esp cuz they're seen as super smart and cute and social so not a lot of people are taught about that aspect of them and instead demonize sharks for just living :(
attols sound so interesting!! sorry i probably sound like a broken record i promise i'm genuinely interested - by volcanic does that mean they help out their environment or not? :0 i wanna do some research now omgg but thassalophobia or however you spell it sux hh
