Man the sheer adrenaline when I found Solanum was unmatched. And then the longer I talked to her, the sadder I got.
Shes been stuck there for years, not quite alive. You see her corpse on all the other locations of the Quantum moon, because of the Interloper explosion. But she's far enough away at the sixth location that she didn't die there.
She talks about her family, about her race, in the present tense. She doesn't know they've been gone for years upon years. She suspects she might not be fully alive, that her journey might be over.
And she still talks to you, the player, openly, as if you're not a species she's never seen before. It broke my heart that it's a one-way communication, that I can't speak to her. But she still gives up her knowledge so readily. It's just so bittersweet :(
Ok I know nothing about rain world but I've been seeing your posts about it made me have a thought: Solanum, on the quantum moon, covered head to toe in slugcats. Do with that as you will
outer wilds spoilers below tha cut!! rain world folks following do not look, play outer wilds instead, it's so fuckign good i promise you
ANON DID YOU FUCKING READ MY MIND I WAS JUST GOING INSANE OVER HOW NORMAL I AM ABOUT SOLANUM AND MOON IN THE EXACT SAME WAYS. solanum outer wilds and moon rain world occupy the same space in my completely normal brain. it's that they're super kind and pretty and suffered a horrible fate they didn't deserve and they're dead and they're alive and they're holding on and they're so sosososo goood;;;; and i love them;;;; and and and AWAUUGUh,
ON THAT NOTE.
i think she deserves it sosososo much. give her an infinite supply of silly slugcats to hug This Instant!!!
(A note on the botanology behind the name: Solanum is actually the name of the genus of plants, and that genus includes a lot of plants, so I just picked one of those plants for a pic. The flower is very similar on many of them anyways :p)
