Quick update on our super low tech mushroom propagation setup. I got lucky with the lions mane. They actually started pushing out of the inoculation hole and started to fruit from the grain spawn bags. Luckily didn’t get any contamination. After pasteurizing the wood shavings, I layered them with grain spawn in these small plastic bins. Sealed the tops with plastic wrap and used the air vents from the grain bags to allow air exchange. I also added some spawn to the leaf litter underneath the bamboo and some to the wooden logs that are feeding our trees. I have no idea what the outcome will be but keeping our fingers crossed that all goes well. I expressed my concerns to one of my neighbors and her response was that there is no way it will go wrong because I’m doing everything with good intentions. I really appreciated that perspective her belief in positivity ❤️ Creating more wood shavings today for the maitake and chicken of the woods although I’d like to wait another week to see if these first bins take off.
